Her last flight before returning a few years later. She gave everything she had at this performance. Right down to her last gasp for breath before her "Ahhh!" Incredible. The audience is just absolutely mental, so prepare for screams. Legendary.

I love her final note. Wow
omg the way this recording had a choke hold on me back in 2009. I remember exactly where I was, refreshing TH-cam, and waiting for this audio to come out. The Kerry hype was so real. The video didn't come out until years later, and it felt so fresh all over again.
Delusional. This casting was the REASON first national tour closed. And then she didn’t even close it. They brought Jenny D back in for the finally few weeks.
I think you're delusional thinking the casting was the reason they closed one of two tours already running simultaneously.
@@smokeandmirrors7450it was the lead up. The first was old and more expensive, and casting had NO IDEA how to cast that tour the final year. Women getting sick, losing voices, emergency replacements, plus the ballooning costs, it was time. So yea, you’re correct in that it wasn’t the direct cause, it was definitely ONE of them.
She is amazing!!!
And SO MANY tell I'm wrong: BUT, she clearly sings: "West End Sky." I 💚🖤 it! And that BATTLE CRY! WOOF!
I saw her in San Jose, CA on National Tour -- I throughly enjoyed her performance.
one thing I don't like about Kerry is she moves too much! And then (of course) she runs out of breath because she's straining so much for no reason! That's why Idina, to get away with moving a lot, did slow flowy gestures instead of *violent angry looking gestures*. I can only immagine she got out of that lift covered in sweat-
wait! that's the only riffless "and nobody in all of oz, no wizard that there is or was" I ever heard from Idina! I just assumed she always did something to it, whether it's yelling it (or trying to) or make it dramatic, or just plain spoken I wonder if she did it other times

I was there. Most people in the audience were there to say goodbye to Kerry and wish her well. I think we achieved that 😁Such a great night I’ll never forget.

I saw Kerry ellis perform in wicked in London!! And she was amazing. It gave me goosebumps and now I’m a huge fan of hers and she is my fav elephaba

I have so far seen 3 performers who were breathtaking in singing DG: Kerry Ellis, Rachel Tucker and Willemijn Verkaik. I sldd also saw Kerry sing with an orchestra on TH-cam. It was just perfect.

Man you cant hear her. It would drive me crazy going to a show on Broadway. The artist sings one big note and you cant hear them for the rest of the song 😂😂😂

She really hit that F that night! Usually she graced it and slid down pretty quickly but she held it for a full count. That's immense for idina.
She didn't. It was very strong and supported, but she was flat. Love her tho

@@legallywicked Because she was below the note, that's not an opinion that's a matter of fact. Not that it mattered much because it didn't sound bad plus it was her last night and emotions were high, just saying that note was flat. I'm a BIG Idina fan/defender btw
@@dekar43 but she wasn’t? i’m not someone who is unwilling to critique her vocals or anything but im not really sure how you can say that it’s a fact that she was flat when she very clearly hits the f note? she’s gone flat on it before & it does not sound like this, even compare it to the studio version, she is objectively not flat.

There’s something so incredibly powerful about a performer that the orchestra is willing to speed up and slow down for. She slowed down her opening which gave it more gravitas and then sped back up through, “And if I’m flying solo.” Kerry is such a commanding force.
I think that's a testament to the whole show. The orchestra should be in sync with the actors and vice versa. They should always be dancing together as one.
On the score it says colla voce which means the orchestra follows the voice. It's smart that they did that so each elphaba can sing it slightly differently
She literally said "I'm running high" lol
Why the stage manager never cut Helen's horrendous scream that she perfectly times as one of the most iconic moments in musical theatre takes place I'll never know. It literally hurts my ears. I'm sorry, she's ridiculously talented but that scream will always be my pet hate.
I 100% agree. I actually didn't like a lot of her choices as Glinda. She is very talented, but for me she just wasn't right for this role.
I actually love this choice when done right. There's audio of Helen with Kerry Ellis when its perfectly timed so she's singing "Elphieeee" in the same key as Kerry starts "It's Meee" and it sounds so good.
It's still in character for Glinda. Scared for her life, but also scared for Elphaba
