  • In today's cozy balcony garden episode, Alba and I are getting stuck into some chores on the balcony garden. We will do a tour of what I'm growing in pots and containers on my balcony in Winter.
As I'm based in Melbourne I like to try and grow a variety of different vegetables and flowers all year round and just because it's Winter doesn't mean you can't still garden here in Victoria, Australia.
Next up, we will be digging up some Dahlia Tubers that have been sitting there after their first frost. This is important to dig up, store and divide these tubers ready to plant again next season.
From there, I replaced that pot with tulip bulbs and will have beautiful tulips growing in containers ready for Spring.
If you're a beginner gardener, I talk through step by step how to do this so you can follow along
I also take you through everything I'm growing and how many weeks they have been growing for, so you can have an idea when you grow the same plants.
Share in the comments what you're growing this season and don't forget to say hello if you're new here!

I love your dogs sweater!! Balcony looks great :)) I also love marigolds, I’m in the US north East, and we have a heat wave right now but the summer garden is thriving. It’s my third year gardening, and I grow lots of veggies like tomatoes, zucchini, beans, peas, watermelon, peppers, cucumber, and other annual flowers!! Loved seeing the different perspective from your part of the world!

Aw thanks so much!! She is a cheeky little thing but loves being cosy and warm in Winter. Wow what a contrast that you're experiencing a heatwave in the US North East! How is the garden coping with the heat? I loooove that you have such a variety of vegetables growing this time of year - Summer really is the best time in the garden. What kind of annual flowers do you grow? Also thanks for your lovely comment it's so nice to hear about your garden :)

@@kiajadeurbangardener the tomatoes are sadly not fully ripening from the heat being around 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, but I’m trying to cut them and have them ripen inside. Certain plants seem to like the heat like the cucumber, peas, and beans, plus the watermelon patch is huge!! And the annuals I am growing are marigolds (with seeds I harvested last year), nasturtiums, cosmos, zinnias, sunflowers, bachelor buttons, and I’m starting to grow coneflowers which are perennial. I also have a puppy she’s almost a year old :) she loves playing outside no matter the weather but we don’t want her out too much in the middle of the day heat. She’s a jack Russell terrier mix with a lot of energy and loves to chase squirrels. I hope you have a good week and look forward to seeing how your balcony garden continues!!

@@jujubeens Ohhh noo I hope you manage to still get some ripe tomatoes even with the heatwave. Wow you have such an amazing variety of flowers too. I can't wait to grow Zinnias soon as they are stunning - Along with sunflowers (bees love them too). Aw a jack russell terrior mix would be the cutest little helper in the garden. Have a great week and hope the temp cools down for you guys :)
