Check out "East Lansing Michigan" 1974 audio only gig, his tone is chunky, dark/warm sounding, best sound I've ever heard from his rig. The mixing board tape isn't the best mix, Vox are Stanley's guitar is almost non-existent, but Ace's guitar is at least up front. It's great if you want to hear exactly what Ace is doing. He plays well too and uses different vibratos!
Honestly, it's really impossible to pinpoint his absolute best solo. Consider the main solo in I was Made for Loving You.... it's so bad ass and it's only 6-7 SECONDS long.
This is Ace at his best hands down. The whole band is on fire. Look at Pete! This solo is Ace. If you listen, it has nearly every Ace lick he's every played all rolled into one. His tone and stage presence are out of this world ! (pun intended)
A couple of my grade school classmates turned me on to KISS back in the mid-70's. "Rock and Roll Over" was their latest album and I begged my parents to get it for me. They did. I quickly declared KISS my favorite band (as just a little kid). All these years later that hasn't changed.
Ace has a different approach to guitar playing. He wasn't a shredder he wasn't bluesy he was all over the place. His solo's in Kiss song's is what made Kiss. 1973-78.
All I know is this. Ace Frehley was a major influence on my guitar playing. Long live Ace frehley! I wish he would go back to those old Marshall amp sounds

You ever consider the notion that Ace is happy doing exactly what he wants. The whole bring Ace back rhetoric is an insult to his entire solo career.
