      @@darthkai8242 Sure. This movie may be considered trash, but it’s my trash. So was Kong vs Godzilla, and I couldn’t care less. I enjoyed watching it despite the story being pretty stupid. I’m sorry, but I was way more interested in watching Kong smash a Giant Plasma powered Battle Axe onto Godzilla’s head. After all, isn’t that the point of that movie anyways

    This is my favorite review of yours, Bob. I went out and saw this movie, my first Godzilla flick ever (and only second Kaiju movie after Pacific Rim) entirely because your sheer enthusaism made me so happy. And this movie deserved it. It was totally awesome and now I ship a lizard with a bug. So thanks, Bob. Thanks for all that.

    Bob, thank you so much! I lost my dad in 2011. And it sucks, as you know. But one of the best memories and experiences I have with my dad is watching Godzilla movies on channel 56 on the weekends. :-) and I actually visited his grave and told him about this movie and how much he would f****** love it! I picked this movie up on Blu-Ray as soon as I could, but I did not see it in theaters. That wasn't due to lack of faith in the movie, I simply preferred watching movies at home during that time period. For context, I did the same thing with Avengers: Endgame!

    I distinctly recall Bob being in the minority when it came to film critics opinions on this movie, in particular Matthew Buck, aka Film Brain, acting like he had just been metaphorically beaten to near death and didn't wish anyone to "suffer through" what he did, even going so far as to tell the people for whom this is the Godzilla movie they've been waiting for and wanting "no it is not". Like, sheesh... What's wrong with them?
    Unrelated note, a bit disappointed that neither He-Man nor Bowser showed up in this movie.

    I do love a proper giant monster movie. I can't say I'd give it a 10/10 but I did have a brilliant time. The main fall-down for me was that a lot of the human characters are so one-dimensional it gets painful to watch. Also, the "main guy" is not good and even after multiple watches I still have no idea what his background is or why he ends up being the "main guy" rather than the other, far more interesting members of Monarch.

    • @JusRed48
      @JusRed48 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think it's just that it's a very acquired taste.
      When I talk about this movie to people their energy/attitude is basically "So it's just to see big monsters fight?" and it's like yeah it's fucking awesome, but you can tell it's just the sort of spectacle that doesn't click for some people. It's the kind of thing you have to see to enjoy and it has to be in a theater for maximum effect. Same thing happened with Pacific Rim.

    I just rewatched Godzilla 14, Skull Island, and KOTM over the week.
    Skull Island is easily the best of these movies. Its the only one of these that knew well enough to not take itself too seriously. It was just fun. Samuel L Jackson was so much better of a villan than any of the overly self-serious "Thanos but badly written" characters from KOTM. KOTM would have been 1000x better if it had that same kind of tone. Instead it took itself too seriously and ended up worse for it.
    Also it doesn't help that you couldn't actually see the monster fights in KOTM. Like, it kept cutting away too often. Do you actually know how the fight went down between Rodan and Ghidorah? Or Rodan and Mothra? No? Because the camera never actually focused on them for more than half a second? Rewatching the glorious Kong vs Skullcrawler fight in broad daylight is an extremely stark contrast.

    I’m honestly baffled by the criticisms of this film. I just don’t understand what people were expecting from Godzilla: King of the Monster; some high-brow art film?! If you don’t like Godzilla movies, then that makes sense, but why watch it? Lol If you’re a fan of Godzilla films, I can’t think of what else they could’ve done that would’ve made it better for you. It feels like a proper Godzilla film, and was clearly made by a fan. Also, Bear McCreary’s score is phenomenal.

  • @Zomdra
    @Zomdra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm glad you had a good time with it but I think you're extremely right about people _needing_ to get into the stuff as a kid to _ever_ really be into it because I found the film quite boring. To me, it was equally as boring as Godzilla 2014, it's bizarre for me to hear someone have such different opinions about the two films because I just watched them both for the first time this week and, from my perspective, they really blend together pretty indistinctly for me. I just didn't find the monster fights very interesting to watch, I really couldn't tell you a single action moment in either film that wowed me in any way or that I can even remember.

    I have theory that first movie fall victim of producer butchery. Like first half hour is actually good, then movie become boring slag for another half hour and then final on its own is decent, but people were too bored to care. The clear problem of this movie is character of the son, who doesn't serve purpose dragging movie, clearly designed to focus on the monster after. I have some minor complains but yeh, it was good. Not as good as Kong, but still good.
    Edit: Oh, and best part of this movie is when they nuke R’lyeh 😍

    I've said it before and I'll say it again, Godzilla: King of the Monsters was a fantastic movie. Godzilla: Trials of This Dumb Broken Family was a waste everyone's life.

    I swear to hell this had better have blown right up in DVD sales and made the money it absolutely should have in cinemas or I am going to kidnap people and trap them in screenings of Godzilla v Kong.

    See, I dreamed about a big budget Godzilla movie too, especially after seeing Jurassic Park. I should have had the same reaction, but I was REALLY disappointed with KotM. They kept cutting away from monster brawls too much and nothing felt real about it. Bradley Whitford said nothing but stupid shit. And the way radiation is treated in this movie is insulting to Godzilla's roots.

    I love Godzilla but I was disappointed by King of the Monsters

    I enjoyed it, just as I've enjoyed and own all of the other Godzilla films, but it was a bit of a mess. Should've been more like the Marc Cerasini novel Godzilla 2000.
