I would love to see CRTs get made again. I think they would be much more interesting today. A tube with 1800 p resolution and Quantum dots instead of phosphors would be pretty awesome. Such a screen would no doubt be cost prohibitive, but I miss that organic look, motion resolution, and variable resolution input without blur.
As someone with 3 they are amazing don’t get me wrong but buy a 600 line SD Sony and a PC monitor and your wallet will thank you can the functionally will be greatly improved.
Thanks for these videos mate, keep it up! Why do you like to slightly overscan all the borders? And is there a way to have settings for 480i/240p (some overscan) and different settings for 480p (no overscan)?
Do you have a multimeter you recommend? I heard Fluke gives the most accurate readings but they are $300-400. Ive been using a $7 one from Harbor Freight that I am told is worthless. I dont really wanna spend over $100-150.
Great channel 🏆🥇👍🏻... Always well presented videos!!!!....I've got a 80cm - 34'inch Trinitron Wega crt 2004 model...I'm researching where and what to do for a restoration, : upgrade circuits, recalibration etc...and a good clean👍🏻...and did you know about the "Sony PVM 4300"...(45' inch crt 200kgs / 440 pounds!!!!!!🤢😨).....that is seriously heavy!
Good video, i have bkm-129x and it works nice on 240p, but 480p seems to be little bit broken. It appers to have something wrong with voltage, screen goes blurry and messy in the time when you using 480p source.
Nice video, but i‘ve got a question about my Sony KV-21x5d consumer-set, because i think it behaves kinda weird... first: when i turn it on, no matter for how long it has been turned off, it takes about 20 seconds to show a picture after i hit power, which is weird considering most tvs are on within 5 secs or so. When i then turn it off after a longer seassion, it „rustles“ like every crt, but it does that unnormally much. Also, when i play a game with black backround, i can see some ghosting. And one last problem: Whe it was just turned on, and the screen changes from bright to dark in a movie or game, it does that „rustling“ a crt does when turned off but for only one time. I got that TV from an old Lady downtown for 10€, she probably used it very much. The TV does that since i’ve got it in early 2019. Besides that the TV works perfect and has a great picture tbh, but does someone know if thats normal, just age and much use, or will my tv fall apart in a couple weeks? Sorry for my crappy english, kind regards from Germany.
I'm also looking at subscribing to the Patreon myself. I've just picked up a PVM which I need some advice on. Hoping to get in touch with you at some point. :-)
Ive heard the 1080i mode in Gran Turismo 4 is just 480p upscaled to 1080i. It looks really bad to my eyes but I guess maybe It had advantages for HD tvs of the time that had more lag when upscaling 480p to their native resolution. I really couldn’t think of any other reason to use it.
Hi, I Had the 14L5 And I noticed Like a kind of Blurriness when I use it in 480p. Is that Fixeable or I Have to assimilate this is how it Works? Thanks!
The other thing I like about the old ctr sizes👍🏻😎 ,is that it CORRECTLY represents, the correct proportion of your life that you should give to TV.....(small but important)👍🏻...not oversized😯 and ALL IMPORTANT 🤢
I recommend PS3 or X360 for 720p. Not all games render at 1280x720 but many do. Even better would be to use PS4, etc with component converter where you could test 1920x1080 properly
It would be nice if one could disable the automatic letterboxing for 720p and 1080i, that way it would be possible to watch 4:3 HD content (using a video processor or PC to stretch out the image to fill the screen instead of having side bars). One can almost use the Deflection settings to stretch 720p/1080i to fill the screen, but there's still some letterboxing.
Unfortunately even if you did that the image will always lose detail and look way too squished in horizontally when sretched in the ways you've recommended (I've tried it before) , which is why its better to just save up and invest in a monitor with a proper 16:9 panel built in like the bvm-d24 or any pc crt monitor with similar 16:9 panel displays for 720p/1080i.
Don't really want to buy a 16:9 monitor just to be able to watch 4:3 HD content (already have a PC CRT anyway). Was just wishing for more uses for my 20L5.

Looking good Steve. Always in the mood to see you doing what you do best. 8^)
Anthony..
Thanks Anthony! Hope you had a good Easter
i know I am kinda off topic but does anyone know a good place to watch newly released series online ?
@Carmelo Benicio i would suggest FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Carmelo Benicio Try flixzone. Just google for it =)
Best video yet buddy!
Thanks
How I wish I had gotten a 20L5 before CRT prices went through the roof. I'll have to live vicariously through Retro Tech in the meantime.

When will you do a video about that green Zenith that you can see through?

If there’s one CRT monitor Sony should put back into production, this would be the one PVM-20L5 (a BVM-D32 would be too expensive)

I have a crt that needs repair, where can I go to get help having it fixed? I could relly use some help

@@jd213_ well, in that case your only option then is to stick with media that was created with 480p in mind otherwise it's a no go sadly.
Somebody should reverse engineer the deflection boards for 14L5/20L5 for easy swap 😁
its possible rgb in xbox 360?
