He must have just absorbed so much as a session man. He learned what he liked and didn’t like. He was so young too. He just used the experience to build his knowledge about music and how it was made. It was incredibly brave to use all his groundbreaking ideas to construct the Led Zeppelin sound. This is why today he’s considered not just a great guitarist. He’s a legendary songwriter, producer and innovator. What he’s contributed to Rock in the overall can’t be measured.
This is old footage but I still get goosebumps and catch myself giggling when I watch it... there might be more technically better guitar players than Jimmy. But they did not write produce and record the songs that he did. And that is the difference between a great guitarist on TH-cam that copy someone else's stuff.. and a guy that originated his own stuff that tens of millions of people have enjoyed
