  • Have you ever wondered if UHT milk is as nutritionally complete as fresh milk?
    Us too!
We did our research and in this video we explore the main nutritional differences between fresh milk and UHT milk - including references to scientific studies that explored the difference.

Sorry for essay and I'm not taking shots..........(inhale) BUT....... haha
This video doesn't seem to make a distinction between the three types of milk we have here in Australia. In Australia, and I am assuming other places, there is basically 3 kinds:
Raw - straight from cow, no pasteurization or heat treatment, (illegal to sell in most cases here in Aus as not pasteurized)
Fresh - pasteurized at a lower temperature for longer (I think something like 70°C for minutes), bottles in the fridge, goes off in a week or two
UHT - pasteurized and heat treated super quick at ~140°C for ~2 secs, cartons at room temp, lasts months
I landed here to try to find the nutrient degradation between "Fresh" and UHT. With fresh and raw bundled together(or maybe "fresh" excluded?) I am not sure what info fits with what milk type since the pasteurization at lower temps isn't really addressed.
I think my big question is, Even if there is a nutrient difference one way or the other between fresh and UHT is it worth bothering with or is it negligible because higher in this and lower in that doesn't matter unless its substantially one way or the other?

Sorry for the confusion, and I appreciate you taking the time to provide your comment.
The video relates to raw Vs UHT milk - I decided to base it on this, since these could be seen as the two extremes, where, if any nutrient difference was to become apparent, it would be more visible when comparing these extremes.
And you are right, the nutrient difference is negligible between the two - and you can always get fortified UHT milk to make-up for any nutrient loss in comparison to raw.
Hope this helps clarify, and thanks for watching! ☺️

This video is UK specific. Here in America, raw milk is illegal. Recently I've learned that at some farmer's markets raw milk is sold as "for pets only" or "unsafe for human consumption".

Very interesting! In the UK it's also not legal for raw milk to be 'resold' though I believe it to be legal if the farm sells it direct to consumer
