Hey Northern Viking Everyday, thank you for taking the time and effort to produce this excellent, easy to follow and understand, video tutorial of Windows 11 Snipping Tool. Coming from a Windows 7 user to Windows 11, your instructions will certainly make life easier for me in this transition.

Microsoft, please add the ability to use a rectangle to emphasize an area of a screenshot! Such a simple but extremely useful tool!

Hello, when i click on new in rectangle mode and select where i want snip, nothing pops up afterwards e.g. image is not pasted anywhere for me to highlight etc. Also the same thing happens in full screen mode, after the 'click' screen is as is (shows press logo key + shift + s to start a snip)...
Help please?? Been driving me insane.. I've also went into the settings to repair and reset, nothing changes.
    Thanks

This was confusing me as well. However, I just figured out I was assuming that starting the app with the shortcut was the same as starting the app with the Start Menu. It is not.
If you start the snipping tool with the shortcut (Windows Key + Shift + S), the app is assuming that all you want to do is to copy the image to the clipboard regardless of which mode/options you select. As such, it does not bring up the Snipping Tool app with the image after doing so; it just copies the image to the clipboard and closes. Thus, your only option with this starting method is to paste the captured image into some other app, email, etc.
If, instead, you want to have it bring up the image in the app itself so you can edit it, save it, whatever, you have to start the app from the Start Menu or from an icon on the Task Bar as he prefers. If you start the app this way rather than the Windows Logo Key + Shift + S method, the app will assume that you want it to copy the image into the app, so it will open the full app with the image loaded after you take the screen shot. At that point you can use the editing and save features of the full app.

What happened to the "Screen Snip" shortcut feature in Windows 11 that can be found in Windows 10 when one clicks on the Notifications?

My windows no longer pops up the image after a snip to edit. So irritating, and ofc, MS official is useless and no help. Any ideas?

And for those people who are wanting to know but was not discussed here, to rotate the ruler Hold the mouse over the ruler, and use the scroll wheel, however, for touchpad users, rest the mouse pointer over it, and then you can use two fingers to scroll up and down.

all i have after w11 upgrade is "snip & sketch." microsoft says no more snipping tool. Snip and sketch only puts captures to clip board. I dont want two files of screenshots and don't like clipboard.

Hi Northern Viking. Love this video on how to use the Snipping Tool on Windows 11. I just switched to Windows 11 and this tool is a big upgrade over the snip tool that was on Windows 10. I love the ability to be able to mark-up an image. Awesome! You did a wonderful job expaining how it all works. Thank you for taking the time to post this. Very kind of you!

Thanks for doing this video for those who need extra help. I have a question about the little toolbar (with ruler, highlighter, etc.) It is at the top of the window in your demo, but in mine, it's at the bottom. I would like mine to be at the top too, but I cannot find out how to change that. I looked everywhere under the settings and tried left/right clicks around the toolbar, but it still boggles me. Thanks in advance for helping out.

I have Windows 11, and my Snipping Tool has very few of the options that are shown in this video. It's like I has the basic of the basic Snipping Tool. If I open the snipped image with Paint, then I have a few more of the options that are shown in this video, but it's still not user friendly. I uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it ,and I still have the same basic design - no highlighter, no pens, etc.
