They leave a little sand on the river side, then cut channel to the ocean, then come back to river side a take the last couple of scoops and then watch as the river flows through.

About 20 full sticks of dynamite pushed down about 3m at regular intervals, with about 1 second delay between each shot, starting from the river end would have cleared this in a few minutes, and been watchable.
