Temple of Doom is my personal favorite out of all the movies. Despite the cultural stereotypes, and Willie’s constant over screaming, the movie is still entertaining to watch and is very memorable for lots of reasons
Same I love this movie with all my heart
I understood that reference
My memory of watching this movie with my grandfather when I was a kid will never leave me
Indy’s deranged “we…are going….TO DIE!!” to Willie was always one of my favourite movie quotes as a kid
“😡Weeeeeee are going TO DIE ☹️”
The frown he gives right after delivery is always my favorite
Mine is from Raiders "I don't know I'm making it up as I go along!"
My favorite was “Water. Water. WATER!! WATER!!” 😂😂
As someone who doesnt love Indiana jones as much as everyone else but still likes the series this has always been my favorite of the series. Short round is the only sidekick i remember of the movies. The temple scene freaked me out so much as a kid that i still remember it. I like all 3 of the originals but this is the one i would put on first
Same bro. This one always really appealed to me
100%
Many people will point to the ripping out of the heart as the scariest moment but to me it’s always been the bit where Indy’s forced to drink the blood and he’s rolling around on that plinth trying to stop it. The sound design in that scene is impeccable and it’s truly horrifying. I always had a thing as a kid against good characters being possessed or turning evil and it’s probably Temple Of Doom that started that.
Yes that scene is unlike anything in any other Indy film was truly a dark twisted scene that's for sure
When I was first introduced to this franchise, this was actually my favorite of the Indiana Jones films. That has changed over the years, but I still really love this movie. It has a whole bunch of fantastic action, another great Harrison Ford performance, a very dark story that I really enjoy, and I really like Short Round as Indy’s sidekick. Now Willie is pretty annoying, but because this is the movie where Spielberg met his wife (Kate Capshaw), I can tolerate that character more than a lot of people. It’s not on that top shelf of my favorites as Raiders and Last Crusade, but I still think that this is a fantastic film.
Absolutely phenomenal movie. I know it gets treated as the black sheep of the trilogy, but I love it just as much as the other two. Raiders is my favorite, but like I said before, I place the whole trilogy as my second favorite movie of all time. So technically speaking, this is also my second favorite movie of all time 😂
Agree it is just as good as 1 and 3
These Indiana Jones thumbnails have me convinced that Sean should cosplay as Indiana Jones during conventions
Growing up, I LOVED watching this movie due to how different it was compared to Raiders of the lost ark. This was one was much darker, brutal, sinister, and yet adventurous and imaginative, I really enjoyed the set pieces such as the mine cart chase, the bridge scene, the Shanghai chase, and the palace scene. Of course it has its flaws, such as Kate Capshaw being so irritating in this film, and it does get too much at times, but this imo was a pretty good entry to the franchise that went ballsy in its tone and vision. Watching this movie also brings back childhood memories of getting the Lego temple of doom and Shanghai chase sets that I got for my birthday! Even though this movie does get shunned by some, I have a lot of nostalgia for it, and I really like it for what it is.
Loved this movie as a kid,had it on vhs , easily my favorite Indiana Jones movie
Rewatched it last night and the character Willie Scott had me falling asleep. She was annoying 😂😂 Absolutely love Indy and Short Round’s relationship and I’m hoping SR makes a cameo appearance in Dial of Destiny🙏🏼 “Mista Jones, you’re my only friend!”
Hey Sean,

Greetings from South Africa!🇿🇦
This is my favorite Indiana Jones movie and I will say that forever. Raiders of the lost ark is overall a better movie, but Temple of doom just appeals more to my taste, I love how Spielberg did something new with this franchise, expanding this universe in a different but believable way. Unlike The last crusade that tries to hit the same beats of Raiders and unlike Kingdom of che crystal skull which is just an idiotic way to expand this universe, Temple of doom feels like a true stand-out in this franchise, this and Raiders are the high points of adventure movies in very different ways
My personal favourite of the Indy movies. Ever since I was a kid and as a grown up found it weird how it is considered dark where there is nothing in it as gruesome as the face melting and head exploding in Raiders.
One of the best prequels ever and one of the most underrated films ever. Fun film and hope Short Round gets his spin-off film.
It’s a rather interesting coincidence we’re getting this and The Flash (which I’m going to see tomorrow) hitting personal nostalgia as I spent most of 2013 watching Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom/The Last Crusade, Batman ‘89/Batman Returns (which I saw 8 times in 2013 alone!) and anticipating/seeing Man of Steel in theaters. All very fond memories and although Dial of Destiny and The Flash won’t hit everyone’s nostalgia, they sure will hit mine
It’s just dawned on me Indiana Jones actually went through 3 different types of female leads
Marian - competent partner
Willie - Damsel in distress
Elsa - the Femme Fatale
And all actually work for me haha 😂
Willie is great and was great back in 84. I remember a lot of people laughing and not a lot of complaining. It’s the perfect damsel in distress from the 30 serials. You are supposed to be annoyed by her, and if you look at Indy and short round, they are annoyed by her until the 3rd act. She does have a slight arc and it’s good enough. She saves Indy and Short Round at times regardless of who she is, and helps defeat Mola Ram. I never had an issue with her.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 2021 was also pg13 but felt like an R-rated one. Lots of blood + a dark concept with fun characters ofcourse.
Congratulations on 250k been here since 100k crazy to see the channel growth over the years!
That Minecart chase and bridge climbing sequence is my favorite action sequence of the series.
Mola Ram is my favorite villain of the series. This is Indy‘s most dangerous adventure. He is very close to being lost forever in the black sleep of the Kali Ma. Let’s face it. Think about that for a second. It’s truly horrifying. There would be no other adventures, if not for Short Round.
0 words on the villain… played by the great late Amrish Puri
This is my favorite of all the Indiana Jones films and one of my favorite movies of all time!
This is my favorite Indy movie. Also the soundtrack is great, slave childrens crusade is awesome
Temple of Doom is the first Indiana Jones I ever saw, and it is my absolute favorite. The ending when Indy, Short Round and Willie returned back to the village triumphantly with the children and the Stone is one of Indy's finest moments.
Also, I believe Mola Ram didn't think of doing the Kali Ma on Indy until Short Round shouted for Indy to cover his heart. Way to go giving the bad guy ideas, Shorty!
I completely disagree that Willie doesn’t have an arc. For the record, she grabs the keys and starts freeing the kids. She gains her bravery and punches the guy in the mine cart which flipped the chasing one. Yes, she’s a fish out of water, but by the end, she’s helping shorty kick Mola Ram off the bridge.
I adore this movie. It’s a 9/10 for me. I might even like it a little more than Last Crusade.
This was my favorite as a kid. Because of what you said, the continuous action and adventure. Raiders was a little slow moving at times for me as a kid. Last Crusade became my favorite as I got older.
They were not filming Dial of Destiny last year when Everything Everywhere All At Once was in theaters. Production on Indy 5 wrapped in February 2022, a month before EEAAO was released. And Mangold said there were no reshoots.
Last crusade was the one we owned in vhs. Always was my fav due to Sean Connery and Harrison Ford relations. His love interest being the villain and paced perfectly with awesome begining. Temple is the next one I want to watch even though raiders is a better film. Raiders is just a bit dry in comparison. I love raiders beginning more, but the temple is so much fun. Last crusade is in my top 10 films and is as perfect as back to the future.
Ke huy quan actually attended the premiere of dial of destiny and reunited with Harrison Ford. It makes me even more sad he's not in the 5th movie not even a cameo cause he deserves something in my opinion.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is an underrated masterpiece. Yeah I said it!
It is a glorious fun-house roller coaster made by disturbed geniuses in perfect harmony with each other. Their goal: anything goes…
This was the Indiana Jones film of my childhood to be honest, it was the one I watched the most and I even acted out scenes from it…
At it’s core, Temple of Doom is another grand adventure film that perfectly captures the magic of Raiders of the Lost Ark, while also pushing the franchise in a dark and exciting new direction!
This movie scared me as a kid. When they ripped our hearts
I don’t think Willie is the worst character of the franchise imo ofc. That award belongs to Mac
I was shocked at how horrifying this movie was the first time I watched
Since I’m a cast member at Walt Disney World, I got the chance to see the Dial of Destiny last night. This new movie is all I could’ve asked for and then some. All of the actors and actresses performed well and the McGuffin was handled better in this movie than the last. I would rank Dial of Destiny in second place out of the five movies.
Willie Scott is not a bad character - she is supposed to be out of her depth, and she's not supposed to be compared to Marion (I know, it's inevitable, but she needs to be viewed as her own person). Id argue that she has one of the biggest character arcs - yes from the beginning she is whining and worrying about her nails, but she does actually change I think. She decks the guard, she saves Indy and Shorty in the spike chamber, she changes as a person by the end where she actually calmly and respectfully acknowledges and bows to the old shaman when they return, compared to the beginning where she doesn't want to eat the food and disrespects them - I'd say she definitely grows. I Think shes fantastic. I like that shes totally unwilling in the adventure, but she powers through regardless. Kate Capshaw did great, with the character.
And my goodness, the weird food - was done so by the Thuggees at the palace to try and ward off the British, and Indy etc. Everyone at the dinner table (except Indy, Willie, Shorty and Blumbert ) was in on the Thuggee cult situation. The gross food was never a commentary on Indian cuisine. Not at all! There was even a cut line , unfortunately, where Indy mentions that the food was unusual and devout Hindu's would never eat meat, and he wonders what these people really are. Okay wow I need to stop ranting lol!
My ranking of these movies is the same as most peoples (1 > 3 > 2 > 4) BUT I do think temple of doom and kingdom of the Crystal skull are both incredibly underrated. I love all 3 of the originals, and I honestly like kingdom too, even if it’s not as good as the original trilogy
The score in this film is one of my all time favourites
Sean those biceps caught me off guard😂
Bro wtf!🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m pretty late to reviewing this one, but without further ado, here’s what I have to say about Temple of Doom.
To start off the review, I wanna mention I do think this is a good Indiana Jones film. Some of my favorite moments of this franchise come from this film, in particular the parts with Short Round. The action is still top notch, and as a prequel, it develops the backstory of Indy in a way that fleshes it out so much more than what we got in Raiders. But, this is the film of the original trilogy I am least likely to rewatch. As a point of reference, I grew up watching this film, and every time I rewatched it I have forgotten most of the film. That’s why my review came in so late, I didn’t remember this film all that well, and I haven’t watched until the day I wrote this. My problems with this film are what you’d expect from a younger critic, Willie is annoying and hard to watch, the middle is slows to a crawl, and the depictions of India’s meals aren’t necessarily great. But another thing that makes this film a little odd to me is it’s a story about Pagan Gods and it’s sandwiched in between two films about Christian artifacts. For the same reason, I’m not that familiar with Pagan mythology so I always get lost a little while watching. But despite its flaws, this is still a solid film in the franchise, just not as memorable as Raiders or Last Crusade.
8.5/10
This movie is stil my favorite of the franchise! It's the most action packed and the most funny!
In my opinion everything from the beginning scene to the map sequence is the best part about this movie and I love how it first takes place in Shanghai China, the rest of the movie I like but some of it is ok that isn’t great but it does have a lot of fun dark scenes that I tend to enjoy.
Love your reviews man! Quick comment though. The video keeps cutting away to movie clips but they don't have anything to do with the section of the movie you're talking about. First time I've seen it but just a bit distracting I guess. Keep up the good work!
I prefer Kingdom of the Crystal Skull over this one but both are god tier compared to the broken down dumpster fire that is the Dial Descent into dullness
We need more Willie Scott impressions from Sean ASAP.😂😂😂
Don't forget we also watched a rated R movie at a weekend retreat.
My personal favourite Indy film, even though I know Raiders was the superior movie. I loved seeing this on the big screen back in 1984 and I lapped up all the merchandise - books, soundtrack LP, readalong book and tape.
Brilliant rollercoaster ride of a movie.
Your Indiana Jones thumbnails are just elite.
I watched the first when I was young I gotta see em again
Thank you so much for this thumbnail. 😍
Can you please do a ranking of all 45 Dreamworks films with the release of the new dreamworks films in the last few years?
Man I remember watching temple of doom when I was 9 in 2008 for the first time. I was so shocked how crazy this movie was for a pg rating 😂. My friend and I just watched temple of doom 2 months ago and she honestly enjoyed crystal skull more than temple of doom
Yeah, pg-13 didn't come around until several years after this movie came out so if it didn't meet the requirements for an R rating it would be stuck with pg
@@yesete777yea that part lmaoo💀I think pg13 came out the next year
It's funny. This is the Indy movie I quote all the time. Mostly Short Round lines. I love this movie for being SO vastly different than the first movie. Shockingly, I don't even hate Willie Scott as much as everyone else does apparently. I love the original trilogy so much.
Saw this in the background of our call 😂 great review
Yep. Filmed film this right before I hoped on the call with you. I hadn’t even disconnected my
Phone from my tv (how I project imagines to the tv) or changed cloths to shoot the thumbnail.
Great review bro
The Indiana Jones trilogy is one of the greatest trilogies of all time. No matter which one is your favorite you can’t go wrong.
I live in Kansas where everyone is a farmer and owns guns and people see roadkill and go hunting all the time. Everyone I know would freak out if they were in Willie's shoes. And that's just "regular" people. Now imagine artists and performers that make a lot of money. Well of course she doesn't want to be there, can you blame her?
You just made me want to watch this franchise for the first time now !
Even though Temple of Doom is more violent, I still find it weird that people find this movie extremely dark. It’s like a Looney Tunes cartoon with violence. Which I find somewhat entertaining but also exhausting
This movie scared me as a ten year old kid because of the human sacrifice scene
But now it’s actually my personal favorite
this was the first Indiana Jones movie i saw and it was pretty dang good, i like it a lot, last crusade is my favorite and imma be 100% honest, i didnt understand raders of the lost ark like at all-
I know it’s not the consensus, but Temple of Doom is my favorite of the trilogy.
And short round is the best side character in the franchise.
It’s my favorite Indiana Jones film.
It is funny though, most Indian food is vegetarian. I don’t know where they got monkey brains from.
I never looked at the palace scene as “They’re Indian they eat weird food” I looked as the wealthy royals eating weird food..maybe I was being naive
I think this is the most underrated of the original trilogy. He has arguably the best arc here. In my review, I described it as a rollercoaster ride, and the action is all great. Short Round is my favorite character here, more than Indy, and his relationship with Indy is great. And I’m glad that the PG-13 rating was created because of this. BUT Willie becomes an annoying, unwanted addition to the movie’s soundtrack. Spielberg and Lucas were both going through divorces at the time, and you can definitely feel that here. I have no problem with them doing the darker sequel, BUT I agree with them that they went too dark. Lucas also admitted that they went too dark, but they didn’t want another Raiders. 4/5 for me.
Not gonna lie, clicked on the video because of the thumbnail... Ahem. Looking great Sean.
Hey Sean, will you do a review of Insidious: The Red Door when that movie is close to its release? It comes out next Friday!
This might be a hot take, but I think actually think temple of doom is way more enjoyable then raiders.
I agree
Temple is the fortune & glory arc evolution of Dr Jones
This is actually my sisters favourite Indiana Jones movie
This one goes a little off the track but is still great
I did like temple of doom, but it had some scary moments like the dinner scene which was gross and the black magic of the heart and drink but I was ok with that but it was scary. This one was one I wanted to watch the most, it wasn’t disappointing but it wasn’t my favorite out of 4 films. It was really good
I think Raiders of the Lost Ark is better but still.
This movie honestly blew me away. From that amazing over-the-top opening sequence to the amazing cast. I personally think the cast is even better than the last film. The film has such a normal inciting incident which is still really intriguing to see play out. Speaking of which, just like Raiders of the Lost Ark this one is one of the most cleverly written action/adventure films of all time. Ke Huy Quan is amazing and really likeable as Short Round, and the actress for Willie also does a really natural job, but Harrison Ford is my man. That man can carry a franchise. He can do all this shit, he's just the coolest actor alive. Indiana Jones does so much crazy shit in this film, I know why I wanted to be an archaelogist as a kid. But I'm glad I didn't become an archaelogist. Harrison Ford also puts up demon time when he drinks the blood and becomes a Kali worshipper. Speaking of which, this is a really dark film. Like really dark and brutal. The first scene in which we are introduced to the Kali cult, they literally throw a guy in lava. That's fucking brutal. Plus the villain of this movie is just terrifying. And also, I'm Indian. I have the same surname as the kid emperor. Not telling my name here but my surname is Singh. It was really cool understanding what all these guys said in this film. It's an extravaganza of intensity, being really dark and brutal and incredible action sequences.
@@EricStuder1989 agree
Btw, guys this is my Letterboxd review for Temple.
@@EricStuder1989 he just radiates terror.
To be fair, Willie did punch the guy out of the mine cart, so that's some contribution, right? Right? Anyone? 😂
It’s not as good a movie as raiders, but I enjoy it more than raiders and I would argue it’s more enjoyable and entertaining than raiders
Sean, do you have any plans on covering the Young Indiana Jones TV show or just the movies?
I am gonna be watching dial of destiny soon, but temple of doom is my favorite so far, let see how good the new one will be (Anyone have a opinion, on dial of destiny without spoilers?, if you do comment, plz if you want)
Good film makers give people a reason to hate the villain. Like James Gunn with the High Evolutionary
I watched the Indy movies for the first time one or two years ago and I honestly really did not enjoy this movie. Really liked 1 and 3, but I was just super bored for most of this movie and overall just wasn't for me. (still has great scenes and moments )
Absolutely love Temple Of Doom
think this might be my favorite one. it's definitely the indiana jones movie i've seen the most amount of times
Out of the original trilogy movies Temple of Doom is the one I watch most frequently. I think Raiders and Last Crusade are both better films but I think Temple of Doom is the standout film in the original trilogy. Last Crusade and Raiders are two very different films, but have many similarities unlike Temple of Doom. I also find the villains in Temple of Doom far more menacing, than those of the other films. I agree with Sean about Willie. She is an awful character! Every time I watch this film, I’m afraid my ears are going to start bleeding from all her screaming!
I saw this movie last night, it was really dark, making it more fun.
I give it an 8/10, most underrated of the series
Temple Of Doom is the best 8/10 movie of all time
0:39
"This is a spoiler-free review, so feel free to spoil away in the comment section."
Apart from Willie I’ve never understood the criticism that Temple of Doom gets. I love it as much as Raiders and Crusade
Super underrated movie!!!
This movie definitely would’ve gotten a R-rating if it came out today
The best Indy movie 👊
Temple of Doom is my least favorite movie of the Indiana Jones movies. I wanted to love it, but I couldn't get past a few unsettling scenes from that movie and the sad part is my favorite one liner is in this movie.
Funny you say it feels like a roller coaster ride when it basically has a roller coaster ride in the climax! 😅
Is it unpopular I like this more then Last Crusade?
Easily the most underrated movie in the entire franchise.
Any Indy fan that doesnt like this movie deserves to drink from the same cup Donovan drank from in the Last Crusade.
Temple of Doom = Classic, Cult classic.
I mean no disrespect here, just saying if you’re gonna say the actor’s name for Indiana Jone, you should do the same for short round. Just feels weird that you’re saying Harrison Ford and short round like Ke Huy Quan isn’t popular. If it’s just fear of pronunciation, it’s pronounced “(key)-(he)-(coo-wan)
