my top 5 is similar to seans my top 5: 1. raiders of the lost ark (my favourite movie of all time) 2. jurassic park 3. last crusade 4. saving private ryan 5. jaws
I know I'm in the minority here. While I love the Indiana Jones movies But my #1 is Shindlers List 2.Saving Private Ryan 3 .Empire of the Sun 4 Lincoln 5 Color Purple 6 Munich Putting AI above Empire of the Sun really?
I know I'm commenting a lot but I want to talk about John Williams, my favorite composer of all time. I was in band for 8 years throughout school and my goodness the amount of john Williams titles I played. So many music sheets with his name at the top. He's influenced so many people in my industry and it's just crazy to think about the amount of musicians that have made things in thought of him.
Spielberg from 1998 to 2005 was on the God mode of directing. So many classics. Immense talent. So hard to rank them all but my top 5 is 1. Saving Private Ryan 2. Schindler's List 3. Catch Me If You Can 4. Jurassic Park 5. Minority Report
Haven’t seen Schindlers List or The Fablemans but out of all the rest I only like Saving Private Ryan enough to put it in my top 100. Jaws, Jurassic Park, ET would have been fantastic in the 21st century. I think all 3 need a remake & then they’d probably make my top 100. Catch me if you can & the terminal are okay, just not in my top 100.
Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan are the two filmmakers that inspired me in getting into film, and it’s incredible how far both of them have come, especially when you consider Spielberg has been directing films for over 50 yrs now.
I always enjoy these rankings. Saving Private Ryan is one of the hardest films to watch and I will always respect it for not shying away from the violence.
that would be Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade, Ready Player One, The Terminal, etc.@@aerpx
@@koolkidz6263 Oh, cool. The Terminal is very charming and definitely under appreciated. For me the only ones i’d have in my top 200 would be Jaws and Jurassic Park, but I haven’t seen Saving Private Ryan yet, gotta get to that lol.
@@koolkidz6263 i haven’t seen it either, smh. gotta get to that too, i’m imagining i’ll agree with the common public opinion of it being his best work.
I couldn't agree more about the John Williams scores!! To me, 'Welcome to Jurassic Park' is one of the most beautiful pieces of music of all time. And so many of his scores are so iconic that you hear a few strains of it and you instantly picture a scene it's played in. Or maybe that's just me!! Love the ranking Sean!! Jurassic Park or The Last Crusade are my personal favorites!
100% agree!! ABC Classical Radio did the Top 100 Pieces of Music from Film, TV and Video Games last year and I got chills hearing that iconic opening French Horn when it came in in the Top Ten.
The Last Crusade is my second-favorite movie score ever. The "complete" soundtrack (available online) has great music not included on the officially-released soundtrack.
He is a legend, I love how he mix mainstream entertainment with art house movies. My top 10: 1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 2. Jurassic Park 3. Lincoln 4. Empire of the sun 5. E. T. 6. Saving private Ryan (and his brother TV show Band of Brothers) 7. Schindler's List 8. Minority Report 9. Ready Player One 10. Hook
@@patchyjack5040 I like it, but i don't love it, for me Last Crusade has a special place in my heart because it was the first Indy film i saw in theaters, when i was a kid.
A.Is ending is actually super interesting in my opinion. For one, it allows David to finally see his mom one last time , something he was trying to do the entire second half of the movie. But what I love most is the idea of Davids experiences with his mom being all in his head, yet satisfying him completely. It’s a weird feeling of being strange yet wholesome of the fact he doesn’t care at all that none of this is real, all that matters is seeing his mom again.
Agreed, AI's position would be my biggest change from Sean's list. Haley Joel Osment's performance is my favorite ever from a child actor. His love for his mom was so pure hearted and beautiful.
3 of my favorite films of all time that I have a deep history with are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, and Jurassic Park. Then I watched Schindler's List a couple of months ago and said automatically "yes that is EASILY Spielberg's best film". That is how powerful that film is. You are never the same after seeing that film.
If I’m looking at it objectively, it’s definitely his best film. It’s so unlike anything he has ever done or will do. If I didn’t know it was directed by Spielberg, I would’ve never guessed it was him. It’s crazy it came out the same year as Jurassic Park. They are so different and it perfectly exemplifies the versatility of Spielberg. That’s definitely the greatest year for a director ever.
Objectively I agree with you it is his best film. It's so sad though so for an overall movie experience I have to put it after Jurassic Park, Jaws, Saving Private Ryan and Catch Me If You Can.
Sad to see you rank The Adventures of Tintin so low. I'm from Germany and I watched the cartoon pretty often and I read a few of the comics growing up, so it was really cool to see these characters in 3D animation. I remember really liking it(Granted: it's been a few years and I was 12-13 when I watched it)
I think the low rank on some films like Tintin is less a reflection of Tintin being weak, and more a reflection of Spielberg having an incredibly deep filmography. There are (I think) 13 Best Picture noms, and those don't include stuff like Jurassic Park, Close Encounters, Catch Me If You Can, or Last Crusade. I've seen about 2/3 of the list, and I really like pretty much all of the ones I've seen.
I agree, Tintin is underrated. It didn't have the uncanny valley effect for me. I love how 2011 was similar to 1993 for Spielberg in that he released both a heavy drama Best Picture contender and a fun genre film in the same year. I mean, Jurassic Park > Tintin and Schindler's List >>> War Horse, but still it's a fun parallel. Munich and War of the Worlds in 2005, too.
It is very much an American ranking. TinTin is a European preoperty. Hergé is not very well known in English North America. I live in Québec and TinTin here is a cultural Icon, along with Spirou, Lucky Luke, etc. So we share a positive bias towards the movie. I agree it should be in the top 20.
I'd go with Tarantino as my favorite director, but I am amazed by how different Spielberg's movies are while Tarantino sticks to his own patented style.
It's cool how you're finally able to find time to rank the movies of your favourite director! This was a long time coming. Also loved how you shared your story about Hook toys and how they're still in your garage after ALL these years!
What a monster vid Sean! I don’t have the time right now to give my full list but Munich is his most underrated movie in my eyes! Also, I loved the great late Tom Sizemore’s role in Saving Private Ryan
I’m a little sad you put The Color Purple at #27. I would put it as my #1. I literally love everything about that movie and it makes me cry tears of joy every time I see the ending. It’s a shame many don’t talk about it as much as something like Jaws, ET, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, etc.
Jurassic Park at #1 for me. I'll never forget my parents coming home after watching it when it first came out and my Dad proclaiming that the government has a real live T-Rex hidden away somewhere, lol.
I honestly don't understand why Spielberg gets knocked for being saccharine and sentimental. He is a lot like a composer from the Romantic Period and in that context, his sentimentality is simply wonderful to experience. It is one of my favorite qualities of his.
SEAN IS AND WILL FOREVER BE THE G.O.A.T!!! Awesome videos and great editorial content so thank you so much sean for making an hour long video for Steven Spielberg movies!!! I’ve have waited so long to hear what you had to say about his movies and now I do. Thank you so very much for all you do!!!!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏
It’s a damn shame that Ralph Fiennes still didn’t get his first Oscar. The guy truly deserves his flowers cause his performance in Schindler’s List was gut-wrenching and emotional. I saw Schindler’s List when it aired on NBC back then and it was hard to watch when it comes to the nature of the movie about the Holocaust. It’s an entertaining but sad Spielberg movie.
@@impossiblemovies323 I would disagree and say it was entertaining in the sense that it kept you intently watching the screen every second. It was phenomenal though and deserved better than where it was placed.
I can’t believe this man has done so many movies that are amazing. Raiders of the Lost Ark will always be one of the greatest action movies of all time
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is truly brilliant. It’s the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater, it’s the movie that made me a Steven Spielberg fan. John Williams is absolutely incredible in the music. And, it is a movie that, in 1982, had children and adults in tears in the movie theater. It is such a good-hearted, grounded film that also manages to tell a story about a lost outer space alien.
I love Steven Spielberg since I was 10 years old and in my opinion he is the most amazing director of generations that span over 50 years of experience and I’m only 34 years old but I can appreciate the talent he brings to the big screen
The most iconic thing about Jaws will forever be that Spielberg was merely making a B - movie. He just happened to create the summer blockbuster and change the movie business forever.
1941 worked for me. You also failed to mention that John Milius (Red Dawn, Conan the Barbarian) helped with the screenplay. It is a perennial watch every Christmas time in our house. It never fails to have me laughing.
At your top 5, I would be stumbling on my words too because there's really no words to describe how phenomenal the top five movies are. Great ranking. I'll make a ranking as soon as I'm done with my "marathon."
Yay! So glad to finally see this ranking! Spielberg is also my favorite director! Great video as always, Sean. Happy to see some love for Amistad and Lincoln by the way. I like or love every film of his except for 1941. Here’s my ranking: 1. Schindler’s List 2. Jaws 3. Saving Private Ryan 4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 5. Lincoln 6. Jurassic Park 7. The Color Purple 8. Raiders of the Lost Ark 9. Catch Me if You Can 10. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial 11. The Fabelmans 12. Ready Player One 13. Minority Report 14. Bridge of Spies 15. The Lost World: Jurassic Park 33. The Sugarland Express 34. Twilight Zone: The Movie (I know he only directed one segment, but I included it anyway) 35. 1941 For context, the first 14 are among my favorite films.
Always is a remake, and the BFG is massively underrated, and I'm sorry, but as much as I love the movies in your top three, nothing should ever be put above Private Ryan, or Schindler's List.
John Williams is awesome and cool you recognize his contribution to his films! Have you ever considered a top 10 composer list? Would enjoy your thoughts on it
1) Schindler's list 2) Jurassic Park 3) Saving Private Ryan 4) The Last Crusade 5) Raiders of the Lost Arc 6) Catch me if you can 7) Jaws 8) The Temple of Doom 9) ET The Extra Terrestrial 10) The Fabelmans
I haven't seen all his movies, but here is my current Spielberg ranking 1. Jaws 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark 3. Saving Private Ryan 4. ET 5. Close Encounter of the Third Kind 6. Schidler's List 7. Jurassic Park 8. West Side Story 9. The Fabelmans 10. Minority Report 11. AI 12. The Color Purple 13. The Last Crusade 14. Temple of Doom 15. Bridge of Spies 16. Tintin 17. Hook
Top 10: 1. Jaws, 2. ET, 3. Saving Pvt Ryan, 4. Jurassic Park, 5. Schindler’s List, 6. The Fabelmans, 7. Lincoln, 8. Minority Report, 9. Close Encounters, 10. West Side Story
Such an extraordinary undertaking ranking a masters work. Here's what i got: 1. Jaws 2. Schindler's List 3. Raiders of the Lost Ark 4. Saving Private Ryan 5. E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial 6. Jurassic Park 7. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 8. Catch Me If You Can 9. The Last Crusade 10. Temple of Doom 11. The Fabelmans 12. Minority Report 13. The Color Purple 14. Bridge of Spies 15. A.I. 16. Lincoln 17. Amistad 18. West Side Story 19. The Lost World 20. Hook 21. Munich 22. Ready Player One 23. Empire of the Sun 24. War Horse 25. Duel 26. War of the World's 27. The Post 28. The Terminal 29. Sugarland Express 30. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 31. Tin Tin 32. The BFG 33. Always 34. 1941
For me, JURASSIC PARK will always be my #1 favorite movie of all time. Whenever I get bored, or if there's nothing good to watch on TV I would pop in a DVD copy of the movie. It would often see the film on HBO and Sci Fi.
As a point of reference, I watched or rewatched all of these movies from September 2022 to December 2022 and took a lot of notes on all of these films. These are my updated thoughts on all of these films. Also, Steven Spielberg is my favorite filmmaker of all time, so just keep that in mind as well. 34. 1941-A massive misfire that doesn’t make sense in Spielberg’s filmography 33. A.I. Artificial Intelligence-A movie that feels lifeless to me 32. The BFG-It’s okay, but it’s not much more than that 31. The Lost World: Jurassic Park-A movie that has great sequences, but a lackluster story that can’t pull those sequences together in a satisfying way 30. Always-A decent at best romance movie 29. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull-I know a lot of people hate this movie, and they’re not wrong, but I have some fun with it when I remove the Indiana Jones name from it 28. The Terminal-An enjoyable enough, but very forgettable addition to Spielberg’s filmography 27. Ready Player One-While it’s fun to see a bunch pop culture easter eggs and references, there isn’t a whole lot beyond that 26. Hook-A fun concept that isn’t executed as well as it could’ve been 25. The Post-It’s not the most interesting material, but it’s effective for what it’s going for 24. The Sugarland Express-It’s not as refined as Spielberg’s later films, but it shows the talent that Spielberg had very early in his career 23. The Adventures of Tintin-An enjoyable piece of family entertainment 22. War Horse-A nice, heartfelt story between a boy and his horse 21. Empire of the Sun-A story that has a very interesting point of view, even if it’s a bit too long 20. The Color Purple-A very well done, well acted adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel 19. War of the Worlds-A solid sci-fi movie that shows a darker side of the genre 18. Duel-A very simple premise, executed rather well 17. Amistad-I don’t think it’s fantastic, but it has several great performances and a lot to say about the differences between culture 16. Bridge of Spies-A very good Cold War film with an interesting point of view character played excellently by Tom Hanks 15. West Side Story-While I’ve never really been into musicals, this is one that’s incredibly well done 14. Close Encounters of the Third Kind-The characters aren’t the best, but this movie still has a bunch of great sci-fi ideas executed very well 13. Munich-A great, thrilling drama that shows an interesting fallout of a political conflict 12. Minority Report-You know Spielberg’s an amazing director when this movie is at #12 11. Lincoln-A movie that absolutely does justice to someone as celebrated as Abraham Lincoln 10. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom-A fantastic sequel that takes a very dark direction that I personally really enjoy 9. The Fabelmans-A film that clearly meant a lot to Spielberg, which made for a movie that shows the power of cinema and what makes it so wonderful 8. Schindler’s List-While this is absolutely one of the greatest movies of all time, it’s a movie that I never want to watch again 7. E.T. the Extra Terrestrial-Despite being over 40 years old, this movie absolutely holds up and stands the test of time 6. Saving Private Ryan-A fantastic film that really shows the brutal reality of war, making for a very important film that everyone should watch at least once 5. Catch Me If You Can-Easily the most underrated film in Spielberg’s filmography 4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade-The 2nd best adventure film of all time 3. Jaws-A perfect thriller, a perfect creature feature, and an overall perfect movie 2. Raiders of the Ark-The greatest adventure film ever made 1. Jurassic Park-A phenomenal movie that has fantastic characters, amazing thrills, digital effects that age beautifully, a great sense of wonder, a compelling story, and a great sci-fi concept to pull it all together
Damned, I used to love this channel years ago, but for some reason during Covid I totally forgot about it. Glad this video popped up in my recommendations, will sub right away 😊
Man this is going to be a hard video to predict cause: I can see 'Jaws' *SWIMMING* it's way to #1 🦈 I can see 'Jurassic Park' *STOMPING* it's way to #1 🦖 I can even see 'West Side Story' *DANCING* it's way to #1 💃 Either way, this is gonna be a fun video to watch. Thanks Sean! ☺️
Last Crusade is a well made film obviously...but for some reason when watching it I never lose the feeling that I'm watching a movie. Like in a lot of good films you kind of lose track of time and space and just get lost in the story its telling. For some reason Crusade always has the opposite effect on me. Almost like it's too perfect...or self aware...or something. Hard to describe.

Good video, but friendly correction: you know that half the clips you showed for Lincoln were for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, right? Honest mistake, but VERY different movie! 😂 38:47
Spielberg has bursts of brilliance followed by films that are entertaining yet forgettable. For example, Jaws and Close Encounters followed by 1941. Raiders of the Lost Ark and ET followed by Temple of Doom (middling sequel that he's not a fan of). Last Crusade was his only great film in the second half of the 80's. Jurassic Park and Schindler's List is arguably his best year, imo. Those two really defined their respective genres. He followed those incredible films with Lost World. Another middling sequel to a giant franchise. I think Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can was his last back to back great film streak. Since then, I'd say Munich and Bridge of Spies were his best efforts.
Great video! Here’s my top 10 Spielberg movies: 1. Catch Me If You Can 2. Lincoln 3. Empire of the Sun 4. Schindler’s List 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark 6. Jurassic Park 7. Minority Report 8. The Fabelmans 9. Bridge of Spies 10. Saving Private Ryan
My top 5 favorites are: 5. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 4. Hook 3. Jaws (my 20th favorite movie of all time) 2. Jurassic Park (my 17th favorite movie of all time) 1. Raiders of The Lost Ark (and the rest of the Indy trilogy cause why not 🤪🤪🤪, this is also my 2nd favorite movie and trilogy of all time) Spielberg is my favorite director, and in my eyes, he is the filmmaking GOAT, the legends directed depressing war films, classics, sci fi, action, horror, a musical, a pop culture tribute, and even a semi autobiography 🐐🐐🐐
I agree with all ur picks I can respect the list and ur opinions though I find E.T. Better than hook I find it a better story, better characters better directing though I do love hook
@@owengibby Hook I put higher as I have more of a nostalgia for it. I saw it before I ever did E.T. and it was one of the first movies I had ever seen my favorite actor in: Robin Williams. It was because of this movie and a couple others that I love him as an actor. They also would show it like two weeks before the school year ended at my old school almost every year. At least one teacher picked it out every year 😂
My top 15 would be: 1. Schindler’s List 2. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark 3. E.T. the Extra-terrestrial 4. Jaws 5. Saving Private Ryan 6. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 7. Jurassic Park 8. Minority Report 9. Catch Me If You Can 10. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 11. Lincoln 12. West Side Story 13. The Fabelmans 14. Munich 15. A.I. Artificial Intelligence

1975-1998 Spielberg was God Tier: Jaws, Close Encounters, E.T, Poltergeist, Indiana Jones 1-3, Empire of the Sun, Jurassic Park, Hook, Schindlers List, Saving Private Ryan. Also produced Goonies, Gremlins, BAck to the Future....) Sheer Absurdity!
One of my favorites is easily E.T.!!! Such a heartwarming movie!!! I also love Jaws,Close Encounters, Jurassic Park,Raiders and Last Crusade,Fabelmans, his West Side Story remake,Catch Me If You Can, Ready Player One is a guilty pleasure for me,he's got so many classics that I love!!!! I also love War Horse a lot too!!! Tintin is a fun movie too in my opinion!!!
Top 5 Spielberg Films of All-Time 1. E.T The Extraterrestrial 2. Indiana Jones The Last Crusade 3. Indiana Jones Raiders of The Lost Ark 4. Jurassic Park 5. Schindler's List
Great list mate! But I can’t believe Close Encounters was as low as it was!! I only recently saw the film for the first time at a rerelease and I absolutely loved it! It does have some weak points (Roy leaving his family with that woman never sits well with me), but it’s still top-tier Spielberg, particularly for a film that came out the same time as Star Wars!
Also if you haven’t already I think you need to do a ranking of all of Martin Scorsese’s films as another master of cinema whose had a long career with heaps of films and Paul Thomas Anderson as another director to look at his films even though his only done 9.
Just checked my IMDB ratings; I have 3 Spielberg films on a perfect score. If I had to choose it would be 1. Schindler's List 2. Saving Private Ryan 3. Raiders of the lost Ark. Loved the video!
Top Spielberg films for me. I haven’t seen them all, but I think I’ve seen 18 of them lol 1. Indiana Jones and Last Crusade 2. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark 3. Jurassic Park 4. Minority Report 5. Saving Private Ryan 6. Jaws 7. E.T.
My personal experience with 1941 - I was walking through our living room one day when I was a kid, and the opening scene came on. I got excited, thinking it was the movie Jaws, so I sat down to watch it. But instead of a shark, a periscope came out of the water, and it became apparent that this wasn't Jaws, but something else entirely. I was so pissed! 😁😁

Steven Spielberg is the G.O.A.T. of directing. I think that the reason why some people hate him is because he's too successful. He's the only director that's in the $10 billion dollar club based on his filmography. He's the Tom Brady of Hollywood. At first, people loved Brady because he was the underdog. But as Brady kept on winning Super Bowls, the love turned to hate. It's the same for Spielberg. The more hit films that he kept on making, the love quickly turned to hatred. And he's still going strong in his mid 70s.
Heres my top 10 10. Lincoln 9. ET 8. Temple of Doom 7. Catch Me If You Can 6. Schindlers List 5. Last Crusade 4. Jurassic Park 3. Saving Private Ryan 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark 1. Jaws
A few things that surprised me about this list. First, let me say I'm glad you listed Duel so high. It's a great movie and often forgotten. I have some disagreements here and there. For example, I liked Always a lot more than you did. It was a remake of a Spencer Tracy movie called A guy named Joe. I also never would have put Hook or War of the Worlds that high either. But we like what we like. Good list.
This is great video. Nice work. Must have taken a long time to rank. Could someone explain to me why Ready Player One is THIS much higher than Tintin. Shouldn't they be near each other?
1) Temple of Doom 2) Bridge of Spies 3) Duel 4) Crystal Skulls 5) Catch Me If You Can He's produced a lot of great stuff too like Men in Black, Animaniacs and the first Transformers
Hey Sean! Enjoy you content! Here are some ideas for future content: 1.) Rank all the Mel Gibson directed films. 2.) Rank all the Stephen King book-based films. Thanks!
One of the best easter eggs in movie history is when ET says "Home" when he sees a kid in a Yoda costume. Then the ET species shows up in the galactic senate in one of the prequel movies too. Just perfect
Fits in a tricky spot. It was a TV pilot that wasn't picked up. SO then it was essentially converted into a stand alone movie. I suppose it could have been included.

1. raiders of the lost ark (my favourite movie of all time)
2. jurassic park
3. last crusade
4. saving private ryan
5. jaws
damn that some dedication
Sorry but Jaws blows away Jurassic Park
Dang, had no clue Spielberg made such a variety of bad movies. Saving Private Ryan is the only movie in my top 100.
I know I'm in the minority here.
While I love the Indiana Jones movies
But my #1 is Shindlers List
2.Saving Private Ryan
3 .Empire of the Sun
4 Lincoln
5 Color Purple
6 Munich
Putting AI above Empire of the Sun really?
Crazy how many classics this guy made, certified GOAT director
Hey man your the goat
Amen
John Williams is the goat too
Crazier is how so many of these classics are in different genres.
Nah a lot of them are overhyped / didn't age well
You're just nostalgic
I know I'm commenting a lot but I want to talk about John Williams, my favorite composer of all time. I was in band for 8 years throughout school and my goodness the amount of john Williams titles I played. So many music sheets with his name at the top. He's influenced so many people in my industry and it's just crazy to think about the amount of musicians that have made things in thought of him.
Spielberg from 1998 to 2005 was on the God mode of directing. So many classics. Immense talent.
So hard to rank them all but my top 5 is
1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Schindler's List
3. Catch Me If You Can
4. Jurassic Park
Solid! Jurassic Park would be #1 for me, followed by Minority Report.
@@JC-li8kkmeh
@krazykajeevieI think he meant from 1993 to 2005
@@JC-li8kk Jaws and Jurassic Park should never be remade! Legendary films!
I really respect how far in advance Sean plans his videos. He mentioned watching some of these last fall in "prep" for the video. a great TH-camr.
Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan are the two filmmakers that inspired me in getting into film, and it’s incredible how far both of them have come, especially when you consider Spielberg has been directing films for over 50 yrs now.
Imagine if they made a movie together.
I always enjoy these rankings. Saving Private Ryan is one of the hardest films to watch and I will always respect it for not shying away from the violence.
SPR is a kids movie compared to Stalingrad (1993). And I haven't even watched Come and See yet.

I have loved Spielberg so much for his true passion in filmmaking. Most of his films would appear in my all time favourite films
which ones?
that would be Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade, Ready Player One, The Terminal, etc.@@aerpx
@@koolkidz6263 Oh, cool. The Terminal is very charming and definitely under appreciated. For me the only ones i’d have in my top 200 would be Jaws and Jurassic Park, but I haven’t seen Saving Private Ryan yet, gotta get to that lol.
@@aerpx I forgot to mention Schindler’s List
@@koolkidz6263 i haven’t seen it either, smh. gotta get to that too, i’m imagining i’ll agree with the common public opinion of it being his best work.
Great list. Only real surprise is how low The Color Purple is. That film is magnificent on so many levels. Easily in his top 10 of all time.
I have been really excited for this video!!!!! Sean you put in so much work and sometimes we don't even realize it, thank you!
John Williams and Ennio Morricoone are top legends for sure
The Last Crusade is my second-favorite movie score ever. The "complete" soundtrack (available online) has great music not included on the officially-released soundtrack.
Jurassic park and raiders of the lost ark are both the best
He is a legend, I love how he mix mainstream entertainment with art house movies.
My top 10:
1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
2. Jurassic Park
3. Lincoln
4. Empire of the sun
5. E. T.
6. Saving private Ryan (and his brother TV show Band of Brothers)
7. Schindler's List
8. Minority Report
9. Ready Player One
10. Hook

Last Crusade is everything

Jaws is better than all of those combined. His masterpiece.
Nice
Agreed, AI's position would be my biggest change from Sean's list. Haley Joel Osment's performance is my favorite ever from a child actor. His love for his mom was so pure hearted and beautiful.
3 of my favorite films of all time that I have a deep history with are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, and Jurassic Park. Then I watched Schindler's List a couple of months ago and said automatically "yes that is EASILY Spielberg's best film". That is how powerful that film is. You are never the same after seeing that film.
Agreed
Agree.
It's Spielberg at his manipulative peak.
I remember really liking it(Granted: it's been a few years and I was 12-13 when I watched it)
Yeah that movie was awesome. Probably a top 10 Spielberg film for me
I think the low rank on some films like Tintin is less a reflection of Tintin being weak, and more a reflection of Spielberg having an incredibly deep filmography. There are (I think) 13 Best Picture noms, and those don't include stuff like Jurassic Park, Close Encounters, Catch Me If You Can, or Last Crusade. I've seen about 2/3 of the list, and I really like pretty much all of the ones I've seen.
Tintin should be in the first 15! Brilliant cinematic achievement!
It's really amazing how diverse his filmography is compared to every other director.
I'd go with Tarantino as my favorite director, but I am amazed by how different Spielberg's movies are while Tarantino sticks to his own patented style.
Spot on about diverse filmography: I mean Jurassic Park and Schindlers List came out the same year!
Kind of an unfair comparison considering Spielberg rarely writes his own film. And even when he has, their not considered his best.
Hitchcock, Kubrick and Nolan are more diverse tbh
@@matteobeach4261 I’d say CEOT3K is one of his best. It certainly is a benchmark in the first contact genre.
Rip Tom sizemore what a legend
Damn didn't know he had died. 😢
Dude, did you really use scenes from "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" during your "Lincoln" section? That. Is. Awesome.
His list is all over the place
Yeah, I've seen The Color Purple a thousand times since I was a kid, and it's still my favorite movie.
i so agree

Jurassic Park at #1 for me. I'll never forget my parents coming home after watching it when it first came out and my Dad proclaiming that the government has a real live T-Rex hidden away somewhere, lol.
I honestly don't understand why Spielberg gets knocked for being saccharine and sentimental. He is a lot like a composer from the Romantic Period and in that context, his sentimentality is simply wonderful to experience. It is one of my favorite qualities of his.
Weird thing is too that he usually employs the sentimentality really well, so I dunno why people complain about that.

Bad editorial content.. Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter footage?
It’s a damn shame that Ralph Fiennes still didn’t get his first Oscar. The guy truly deserves his flowers cause his performance in Schindler’s List was gut-wrenching and emotional. I saw Schindler’s List when it aired on NBC back then and it was hard to watch when it comes to the nature of the movie about the Holocaust. It’s an entertaining but sad Spielberg movie.
Its many things, but NOT entertaining.
Fantastic movie though
@@impossiblemovies323 I would disagree and say it was entertaining in the sense that it kept you intently watching the screen every second. It was phenomenal though and deserved better than where it was placed.
I can’t believe this man has done so many movies that are amazing. Raiders of the Lost Ark will always be one of the greatest action movies of all time
It's amazing you put Lincoln Vampire Hunter clips in the Lincoln review lol I was so shocked
This is actually perfect timing. I am currently watching through all Spielberg films and forming my own ranking.
I love Steven Spielberg since I was 10 years old and in my opinion he is the most amazing director of generations that span over 50 years of experience and I’m only 34 years old but I can appreciate the talent he brings to the big screen
Yes, Spielberg really missed out on not depicting Lincoln's vampire-hunting career in more depth.
Heck yeah, Sean Chandler talking for an hour about my favorite director
Love this vid! The lost world is such an underrated film. I absolutely love it. I’m glad to see it getting some love 🙌🏻
The points you made about the power of a great score and blockbusters of the 80’s and 90’s compared to today were articulated with perfection
How is Tintin only 31?
Like I get it's not as profound as Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan, but like, this movie is so damn good
No joke, actually gonna crack out the popcorn for this one! Super excited, Sean!
The most iconic thing about Jaws will forever be that Spielberg was merely making a B - movie.
He just happened to create the summer blockbuster and change the movie business forever.
It started out as just a b movie, but ended up as a cinematic masterpiece.
Jurassic Park and Schindlers List were released in the same year. I am not a huge Spielberg fan, but That is quite something.

These are my updated thoughts on all of these films. Also, Steven Spielberg is my favorite filmmaker of all time, so just keep that in mind as well.
34. 1941-A massive misfire that doesn’t make sense in Spielberg’s filmography
33. A.I. Artificial Intelligence-A movie that feels lifeless to me
32. The BFG-It’s okay, but it’s not much more than that
31. The Lost World: Jurassic Park-A movie that has great sequences, but a lackluster story that can’t pull those sequences together in a satisfying way
30. Always-A decent at best romance movie
29. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull-I know a lot of people hate this movie, and they’re not wrong, but I have some fun with it when I remove the Indiana Jones name from it
28. The Terminal-An enjoyable enough, but very forgettable addition to Spielberg’s filmography
27. Ready Player One-While it’s fun to see a bunch pop culture easter eggs and references, there isn’t a whole lot beyond that
26. Hook-A fun concept that isn’t executed as well as it could’ve been
25. The Post-It’s not the most interesting material, but it’s effective for what it’s going for
24. The Sugarland Express-It’s not as refined as Spielberg’s later films, but it shows the talent that Spielberg had very early in his career
23. The Adventures of Tintin-An enjoyable piece of family entertainment
22. War Horse-A nice, heartfelt story between a boy and his horse
21. Empire of the Sun-A story that has a very interesting point of view, even if it’s a bit too long
20. The Color Purple-A very well done, well acted adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel
19. War of the Worlds-A solid sci-fi movie that shows a darker side of the genre
18. Duel-A very simple premise, executed rather well
17. Amistad-I don’t think it’s fantastic, but it has several great performances and a lot to say about the differences between culture
16. Bridge of Spies-A very good Cold War film with an interesting point of view character played excellently by Tom Hanks
15. West Side Story-While I’ve never really been into musicals, this is one that’s incredibly well done
14. Close Encounters of the Third Kind-The characters aren’t the best, but this movie still has a bunch of great sci-fi ideas executed very well
13. Munich-A great, thrilling drama that shows an interesting fallout of a political conflict
12. Minority Report-You know Spielberg’s an amazing director when this movie is at #12
11. Lincoln-A movie that absolutely does justice to someone as celebrated as Abraham Lincoln
10. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom-A fantastic sequel that takes a very dark direction that I personally really enjoy
9. The Fabelmans-A film that clearly meant a lot to Spielberg, which made for a movie that shows the power of cinema and what makes it so wonderful
8. Schindler’s List-While this is absolutely one of the greatest movies of all time, it’s a movie that I never want to watch again
7. E.T. the Extra Terrestrial-Despite being over 40 years old, this movie absolutely holds up and stands the test of time
6. Saving Private Ryan-A fantastic film that really shows the brutal reality of war, making for a very important film that everyone should watch at least once
5. Catch Me If You Can-Easily the most underrated film in Spielberg’s filmography
4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade-The 2nd best adventure film of all time
3. Jaws-A perfect thriller, a perfect creature feature, and an overall perfect movie
2. Raiders of the Ark-The greatest adventure film ever made
1. Jurassic Park-A phenomenal movie that has fantastic characters, amazing thrills, digital effects that age beautifully, a great sense of wonder, a compelling story, and a great sci-fi concept to pull it all together
His version of War of Worlds isn't very good.

I love this video, just curious as to why you put clips from Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter in there. Great list love your breakdowns.

I haven't seen all of his movies. I suspect Lincoln would be top 10 if I watched the whole thing, and Duel would be high on the next 10. I honestly expected The Temple of Doom to be last.
My TOP 10:
01) Lincoln
02) Munich
03) Raiders of the Lost Ark
04) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
05) Jaws
06) Schindler's List
07) Ready Player One
08) The Adventures of Tintin

1975-1998 Spielberg was God Tier: Jaws, Close Encounters, E.T, Poltergeist, Indiana Jones 1-3, Empire of the Sun, Jurassic Park, Hook, Schindlers List, Saving Private Ryan. Also produced Goonies, Gremlins, BAck to the Future....) Sheer Absurdity!
One of my favorites is easily E.T.!!! Such a heartwarming movie!!! I also love Jaws,Close Encounters,
Jurassic Park,Raiders and Last Crusade,Fabelmans, his West Side Story remake,Catch Me If You Can,
Ready Player One is a guilty pleasure for me,he's got so many classics that I love!!!! I also love War Horse a lot too!!! Tintin is a fun movie too in my opinion!!!
Top 5 Spielberg Films of All-Time
1. E.T The Extraterrestrial
2. Indiana Jones The Last Crusade
3. Indiana Jones Raiders of The Lost Ark
4. Jurassic Park
5. Schindler's List
Thank you for the amount of time that you put into this video
Imagine if you included all the pictures Spielberg has worked on, one way or another.
I mean the greatness just goes on and on
Great list mate!
I'd have Tintin waaaaay higher. Might be my favorite Spielberg film from 2000s
2010s*
I was a kid in the late 70’s/early 80’s so my Top 5 reflects that
5) E T
4) Raiders
3) Jurassic Park
2) CEOT3K
1) Jaws
Just checked my IMDB ratings; I have 3 Spielberg films on a perfect score. If I had to choose it would be 1. Schindler's List 2. Saving Private Ryan 3. Raiders of the lost Ark. Loved the video!
Wow, just watched Fabelmans yesterday. Good timing
Top Spielberg films for me. I haven’t seen them all, but I think I’ve seen 18 of them lol
1. Indiana Jones and Last Crusade
2. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. Jurassic Park
4. Minority Report
5. Saving Private Ryan
6. Jaws
So no one’s gonna talk about how Sean included footage from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter at 39:37?

Steven Spielberg is the G.O.A.T. of directing. I think that the reason why some people hate him is because he's too successful. He's the only director that's in the $10 billion dollar club based on his filmography. He's the Tom Brady of Hollywood. At first, people loved Brady because he was the underdog. But as Brady kept on winning Super Bowls, the love turned to hate. It's the same for Spielberg. The more hit films that he kept on making, the love quickly turned to hatred. And he's still going strong in his mid 70s.
Not many actual cinephiles hate Spielberg. In fact, I'd think you'd find that a lot credit him with getting them into cinema in the first place.
Ready Player One and Mirority Report are the two I'll always watch if it is on. They win most entertaining for me.
Those are my two favorites as well, besides Schindler's List.
Awesome! What a massive undertaking. Sean Chandler rules!
Finally someone who gives Amistad the respect it deserves
Heres my top 10
10. Lincoln
9. ET
8. Temple of Doom
7. Catch Me If You Can
6. Schindlers List
5. Last Crusade
4. Jurassic Park
3. Saving Private Ryan
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark
1) Temple of Doom
2) Bridge of Spies
3) Duel
4) Crystal Skulls
5) Catch Me If You Can
He's produced a lot of great stuff too like Men in Black, Animaniacs and the first Transformers
Hey Sean! Enjoy you content!
Here are some ideas for future content:
1.) Rank all the Mel Gibson directed films.
2.) Rank all the Stephen King book-based films.
Thanks!
takes guts to rank 34 movies! what a legend!!!
dont hate on adventures of tintin
Yeah thats right, what a wanker.
Best comment I’ve ever seen, legit Speilberg’s most underrated film.
Absolutely!
One of the best easter eggs in movie history is when ET says "Home" when he sees a kid in a Yoda costume. Then the ET species shows up in the galactic senate in one of the prequel movies too. Just perfect
You forgot Savage. It's another TV movie but I still think it counts as it's part of his early filmography.
Fits in a tricky spot. It was a TV pilot that wasn't picked up. SO then it was essentially converted into a stand alone movie. I suppose it could have been included.
