The hands to the facemask no-call has been largely overshadowed by the DPI no-call. For me it evens out, as almost all things do over time, but I'm sure Falcons fans would disagree on this particular play. Your breakdown Samuel is, as usual, excellent. Pretty much the best part of FG IMO, by far.
The hands to the facemask was involuntary. It happens in every NFL game at least once between WR and CB if the corner is pressing at the line of scrimmage. WR's are taught to have violent hands at the line to keep the CB from breaking the timing of the route. I doubt Julio was aiming for his helmet because that is a penalty. Julio was looking to swipe/rip Sherman's arms down and accidentally hit his helmet. Julio's strength of the swipe/rip of Sherman's arms is what caused Sherman to stumble off balance.
Dameatis Smalls When it's fourth down with game on the line, players will get as close to ripping someone's head off as possible. Whatever it takes. Julio took a very aggressive approach to break press coverage and then Sherman made a very aggressive play to force the incompletion. I don't think either of them wanted the penalty. Those aggressive plays happen when the game is on the line.
goclbert Julio was aggressive with Sherman all game when he tried to press him, you can see in the video sometimes he's literally driving Sherman off the line some plays. I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Julio's head swipe was completely accidental, WR's are not taught that technique. It's clear he's trying to rip down hard on Sherman's arms but hit his head first. In Sherman's case he was clearly trying to hold Julio's arm down on purpose. He got lucky by no flag being called. Game over onto the next team.
was there possibly another hands to the face on the falcons offensive left guard on the last play as well, it looks like cassius marsh (#91) takes a shot to his the face mask at the snap
These breakdowns are so good. Sam Gold should have a show. Something cheesy like the "Gold Rush" or something. Also Love you Sam, but on your new show I produce, you cant say "Anyways" like my grilfriend from DC says also. You can go this way, or that way, or anyway, but you cant go anyways. Anyway is already the plural form, or something like that. Great videos, these videos are diamonds in the rough. I mean GOLD!
If Richard Sherman didn't have the 2 busted coverages would you have chosen him as the winner? Both missed coverages were audibles that McCray (replacing Chancellor) failed to communicate to Sherman, which is why Sherman blew up on the sideline.
Eric Sauer Botu were his fault he wasn't playing his zone. The second one was really his fault he followed Julio to far and left tilolo by his self for the TD
I agree that both coverages were Sherman's fault, but when looking at a straight 1v1 matchup we need to only analyze the plays Sherman covered Jones, not the plays Sherman SHOULD have covered Jones. A team communication on defense shouldn't affect Shermans grade in the matchup. On the plays where Sherman covered Jones, I think Sherman won the day.
@@SpaceAlley Jones Vs Sherman 1 INt, 1 PBUs. And Sherman no allowed 1 TD, he was on the individual score against the TE. And if you go look at the movie you will see that Sherman only ceded 2 receptions to Jones. 1 on the Slant route and another on the comeback, this counting mark man2man cover
@@souobrigadoafalarissoaquit5292 What INT did Sherman have? Also Sherman gave up the Td because he wasnt supposed to be in individual coverage against the TE. He was supposed to be in zone. The Td was caught in his zone.
I saw a video on instagram of OBJ running routes and it had each route and then a video of him running it and now I cant find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Always solid breakdowns, and love the videos. only thing I disagree with is Shermans "blown coverage". it looked to me that the concept was that Sherman would have the flats and his outside backer would pick up his deap third of the cover 3 zone. You may not have seen it but after the play Sherman went off on the Olb to his side on the sideline. which would lead me to think Sherman wasn't the one to blow the coverage.
Great film break down! in my opinion Sherman won the matchup precisely because he appears in the most important part of the game overriding Julio Jones, and that is what makes great players deferentiate of "good" players and only remembering when 1 a lack of each team as absences are canceled.
If you know football as long as if you're looking back at the ball and playing the ball as an defender you call tuch the receiver when the ball is in the air. Richard Sherman is a smart player that's why he looked back at the ball!
Seahawks were better prepared coming off the bye in the first half. However Kyle shanahan needed only one half of play to learn how to attack this defense. If kyle shanahan can learn to humble himself and try to feature his players better He could be a great nfl head coach.
Bossaholic he deserves it. Look at highlights from other games this season. He uses everyone. 2 games Julio has had less than 30 yards and one of those games we put up 45 points. But I really don't want Shanahan to leave. Falcons fan here
Let's not ignore Julio getting away with two calls off the line of scrimmage. But people focus on Sherman's call cause that was in the open field either. Call both or let them play. I watched this game they let them play on both sides. Cause Sam could've done a video on ATL holding up front that's another conversation...
From what I heard, they installed special defensive calls for this game where Sherman stays in man and McCray slides over to cover Sherman's zone. Kam was ruled out at the last minute leading up to the game so that led to the miscommunications with McCray.
One of them, the first touchdown to Julio, was a miscommunication on the defensive side of things as a whole. 10 of the players were notified of the change of play, except Sherman. Someone, possibly Kelsie McCray, forgot to relay the message to Sherman, which left only Sherman in man-to-man coverage (he covered the tight end). Had Kelsie relayed the message to Sherman, that touchdown would not have happened. That's why he got so pissed right after that play.
I thought it the safety's fault before watching this video but it looks like everyone else is playing zone ...gotta keep in mind as smart as Sherman is, that stadium can get loud and just like its hard for offense to communicate I'm guessing its hard for the defense too.
Dude your breakdowns are awesome! Can you breakdown why Greenbay's offense is some garbage. I see Rodgers is not playing like we've grown accustomed to seeing, but how does a great quarterback regress so much? I'm tired of all the excuses, so a breakdown would be greatly appreciated.
you only have to look at how the falcons are putting up like 40+ points week after week to realize how amazing the seahawks defense played for 3 out of those 4 quarters. not sure what that 3rd quarter was tho, seemed like no one knew what the other was doing anymore all of a sudden. very strange, and ruined an otherwise legendary defensive performance.
contact off the line is allowed. what is not allowed is to restrict a receiver from being able to make a catch. it was a missed call sadly but enough said there that game has passed its time to focus on the next one. #Riseup # gofalcons
Julio didn't touch Sherman's facemask, he used a legal (within 5 yards) head slap on his release. That's not a penalty and has absolutely nothing to do with the dpi no call.
Falcon fan here... All I'm gonna say is yes on that last play there were two penalties but which one did we actually see??? Of course the one of Sherman... Nobody not even maybe the refs saw the hands to the face from Julio but Sherman holding Julio arms was highly noticeable.... Kinda like how LeBron fans are forever overlooking all the traveling he does but yet cries about Curry double dribble that NO ONE IN THE WORLD SAW at the time it happened... Nobody even brought it up nor questioned till somebody had to find a way to TRY to protect Lebron by going back to watch a slow motioned replay... I'm just saying lol...
Your guessing that the calls on the blowen plays puts the fault on sherm, i disagree. Atlanta couldn't get a first down in the 4th quarter, where Russell got 9 first downs plus 9 points. Matty Ice seems to only look for Julio only to make aplay on the last play, whereby he had other options open but didn't choose them. You could see what Atlanta were doing on the last play, thats why the refs didn't call anything, Atlanta had to beat seattle with football not trying to get a flag. The refs knew, by how atlanta played that last play from start to finish, at worse they were hoping for a repeat 4th down.
Here come all the haters saying Sherman is garbage for allowing one of the top two receivers in the NFL to catch 4 balls for 76 yards and a TD. Pretty decent if you compare that to say, Patrick Peterson attempt to shadoe Jones that year he had like 200 yards. lol
nextgentactic 4 yes he did cuz julio would have got away with one an put his team in position to win so Sherman said if u wanna cheat I'll cheat so he saved the game
In the rules it says you have to grab the face masknornpin the persons head back neither happened so no call and even if that was a penalty the two would have offset and would be a replay on downs.
I watched this video and the Brown vs Sherman video and Julio beat Sherman but Sherman beat brown. using Richard Sherman as the independent variable is it fair to conclude Julio Jones is the better WR than Antonio Brown
It wasn't DPI! Oh God the hate!!! It's eating me alive! But seriously, it was a hail mary type situation in a very physical game. The refs throw the for the same reason they can't throw it if it was a hail mary to the endzone. It would basically be giving the game to that team. Plus it's ok for a defenders arm to be on a WR as long as he isn't turning the WR which he wasn't. That coupled with Sherman playing the ball = no flag. If you can't tell if its incidental or not, no DPI. I can't wait for someone to prove me wrong. Actually, if you're out there, I'm making a video on this shit so if you could nicely explain to me why it overrides those things please do.
It's amazing what seahawk fans come up with but if that make yall feel good are justify that what happen at the end for the Seahawks to win the games.... well at least they won right? Wining is wining even if u get away with no call.....
William Johnson they should've called Julio for an offensive pass interference. Once the play started he pushes Sherman and smacks him in the head to get open. So don't say one thing when that was the first thing that happened... NEXT!!!
No, the penalties at the end on Sherman are NOT "your opinion", they are FACT. I have no problem with the hold off the line of scrimage or hands to the face mask, whichever is the better option. . .but it was CLEARLY pass interference on Sherman as the ball was coming into Jones. It wasn't even close, the ref should've called it, period. . Had Matt Ryan not under thrown that ball, Jones would've had a TD. But either way, it was still pass interference, and Atlanta should've gotten the ball on the spot.
Illegal hands to the face on Jones. You can tell it wasn't just a gentle tap by the way Sherman's head moved. Jones basically bitch-slapped Sherman on the face mask, and it spun him around. There are two missed penalties on that play.
