    Saying Richard Sherman isn't good because he played in a zone style of defense which isn't as difficult as a man coverage style of defense is kind of like saying that Joe Montana and Jerry Rice aren't good because they played in a west coast style of offense that yields higher competition percentages and higher offensive production. While it certainly could be argued that different styles of offense and defense are easier to play and yeild better stats than others, claiming that a player's greatness is lessened only for the style in which they play isn't sensible. Ultimately, the coaches decide upon the game plans and the styles of play, but the players are the ones who either execute or fail to execute them. There been plenty of receivers and quarterbacks to play in a west coast style of offense, but few did it as well as Joe Montana and Jerry Rice which is why they're both great Hall of Fame players. Similarly, many conerbacks have played in zone styles of defense, ie cover 2, cover 3, and tampa 2. But few have played in those styles of defense as well as Richard Sherman which is why he's great and deserves to be considered for the Hall of Fame as well.

    • @TJackson736
      @TJackson736 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elijahjacob872 Stephen Gilmore doesnt shut down wide receivers and still gets safety help. You arent shutting a receiver down by ypurself when you have a safety covering the deep part of your side of the field fairly regularly. Gilmore is a gambler that knows when to gamble based on playcall, situation and his opponent. Gilmore got burned a couple times in week 16 because his safety help wasnt where it should have been. That's not a shutdown corner. You dont get to be a shutdown corner if you rely on the safty covering your side of the field to cover any deep routes. Shutdown corners covered all the routes back in the day.
      As far as Peterson, I didnt really watch him because Gilmore was supposedly the best corner in 2019. Hard for me to assume another guy is a shutdown corner and not the consensus #1 best corner or right behind another shutdown corner who is the #1 best.
      Shut down corners are not just corners that are very good in man. They basically one on one shut down the other team's best receiver. That basically doesn't happen in today's NFL. It is always scheme that takes away the best receiver, not just this one corner.

    • @perezfinichames
      @perezfinichames 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't matter Theodore because you just play zone to that side. Deon Sanders sucked at zone defense. So they always had him playing man. You play players to your players strengths. If you have a coach that plays man with Sherman and zone with Deon, then your coach isn't doing the job.

    The people that hate on Sherman fail to realize that yes, he probably could play in a man coverage scheme. The problem is, in a man coverage scheme he'd likely only be above average, but in a zone scheme, we're looking at a hall of famer. trying to knock sherm for that is like trying to tell Ray Lewis that he wasn't a good LB because he was only an above average pass coverage guy at best, when obviously anyone with half a brain stem knows that Ray was so amazing at run stuffing and pass rushing that he could still be as great as he was even if he was "only" above average in coverage.

      Whoa whoa whoa let's stop the lies and make this clear alot of ppl give Richard Sherman props as the best zone corner in the league. Problem is hes the one that gets pissed when he hears that. Everyone knows traveling man to man is harder than zone. The man uses his eyes technique size and his knowledge from his WR days and it shows in his work. BUT you cant get pissed when ppl label you the best in an area based off of the product you put out and that's Sherms problem

    You should make a video of all the times Sherman got beat in Seattle and Earl or Kam saved his ass. I'm a life long Seahawks fan. Sherman jumped a lot of routes which got him more interceptions in the stat book. But he also got burned because of that, and he had one of the best Safety combo's ever backing him up and they saved him plenty of times. He's great, but it's just a fact that moving all over the field always covering the best receiver is a much harder job. Sherman always had the sideline to his left, and could practice pressing receivers to that one side every day. Then he got to play for a defense that used the same strategy and keep his same side. If he'd gone to a team and was asked to move around the field, he'd be screwed right now.

    Being a zone defender/helpside defender is more important in football than a sport like basketball. Draymond isnt more valuable defensively than Kawhi defensively cause Draymond is not a great onball defender & being a onball defender is more important in basketball cause 1 superstar can dominant a whole game in basketball & a Kawhi has da ability to take the best opposing player out of the gameplan & hurt their chances of being effective in the game. Basketball is a superstar driven league & 1 player in basketball can affect the whole game & team unlike football. In football, its more team oriented & 1 player cant dominate da same way compared to basketball. Derrelle Revis can be a shutdown corner covering the opposing team's best reciever but a quarterback isnt dependant on passing to 1 reciever, he can pass to anyone else on the field.
    Also if the reciever is able to create seperation from Revis, Revis leaves his safety who is suppose to help on the backend of the defense vulnerable to getting beat as well because by the time the reciever gets dat seperation da safety is already too far out & dats a touchdown waiting to happen. Also if the corners is just covering a deep threat, the corner isnt accounting for the runnerback, the tight end, the fullback & a slot reciever like an Eldeman or Wes Walker going in the middle. In football, everyone has to be on the same page. When I watch Sherman on the TV he has more cerebrallness than a Revis, hes constantly helping the backend of the defense & even the frontend of the defense & is constantly communicating to his teammates where to be. I feel wat Sherman brings to the table is more valuable than wat Revis brings cause football is a team sport & 1 reciever cant kill your team, its more valuable in my opinion for your corner to cover ground everywhere compared to being a shutdown corner on 1 side of the field

    At the end of the day what’s the debate about? Revis excelled within the defense schemes of the Jets & Patriots and was able to take a teams best receiver out the game due to his skill set and ability to defend at a high level. Sherman is able to defend at a high level within the defense schemes of the niners & Seahawks what’s unique with Sherman by being a former receiver in college he has the ability to look back at the quarterback and defend against the route a receiver is trying to run with safety help or without. Sherman has a high football iq and can decipher where a qb wants to throw the ball before the qb actually throws the football. Both are great defenders it just a matter of preference as it pertains to playing within a preferred defensive scheme.

I think the Chiefs are a lot like the Packers with a couple of faster guys but you'll get the same result. It's going to be like 49ers vs Dolphins or 49ers vs Broncos Super Bowl blowouts. Lets get something straight. Cover 1 and cover 3 is the same thing. Its like giving the cornerback an option just like when receivers have options in the routes on a certain play. Its totally reactive to the offense. Now seattle did not play cover because sherman was better at it. They played it because kam chancellor couldnt cover so they would drop him down in the box. Which is why he always had so many big hits. Earl thomas was an iffy safety and sometimes blew coverage to good tight ends like greg olsen. Why? Because im cover 3 if your safety doesnt take the deep seam route it will always be open. Thats an affective way to beat cover 3 and cover 1. Revis had 1 good season, ever, 2009. That jets defense ranks high among historic defenses and thats because of the front 7. Revis island didnt move to tampa lol. Sherman is probably the best all around cb to play. Deion couldnt tackle, Chuck was a liability at covering and revis was nothing without a front 7. But honestly i my top 2 cb ever are Sherman and Darrell Green.

    To say he never is a lie. to say he doesn’t constantly would be more correct. Because for you to say he’s never traveled would mean the 49ers and Seahawks have never played man to man coverage. Which would be false. Against the Vikings that was man to man when he got a pick. Just because it’s not often doesn’t mean it doesn’t occur. He’s not a great man cb. Now sherm is a great coverage cb. Which is why the dc is a genius to use him that way. At the end of the day every one has strengths and weaknesses. Not every cb that plays has to travel , and to me my personal opinion. I think in today’s game Oc and Hc are smart enough to abuse cbs who travel. With constant motions like for example the niners do. Also if they are playing a zone that means there’s a soft spot in the zone usually that Cb would be in. ( again my opinion )
