Just for anyone's reference, I've found it's easier to remove and replace the oil filter from the top on these engines.

How? It looks so tight from the top?

Hi Andy, it’s certainly doable; I stand by the passenger side fender and reach my left hand down to grab it.

I agree. Once or twice is okay but it just gets annoying after that.

I worked for Mobil Research & Development Corporation (MRDC) in Princeton and Paulsboro NJ... you can safely push Mobil 1 to 10,000 miles absolutely no sweat. My own 2005 CR-V, my Mom's 2004 CR-V, and my brother's 2012 Toyota Highlander all run great with Mobil 1. Changing Mobil 1 at 3,000 miles is way over-kill. 5,000 miles is just getting settled in. It's the oil at the filter outlet that's important the crankcase drain is dirty because the oil flushes all the crud out of the wear surfaces. Buy the best oil filter you can afford... FRAM filters are not the best IMHO in Australia (quite extreme service conditions) we use Honda OEM or Ryco filters they are the best. I've seen test engines run hundreds of thousands of miles (well over one million) on Mobil 1. Accept no substitutes.

17 inch socket! You better have one hell of a breaker bar for that.

SOS for Honda Crv 2002-2006 use 5w20 (0w20 Europe) if u have 100.000 and under. If you have 100.000 up use 5w30 ( I searched every manual) i want to help for crv lovers. (Honda oil-Liquid Moly- Mobile 1- Valvoline- Elf-Total BEST BRANDS) reliable sources. And for coolant fluid use only Honda Genuine COOLANT (Type-2) OR blue coolants (Mannol, Zerex, Peak, Valvoline, Prestone)

The1997 CR-V also has a well-hidden oil filter that's really hard to get to - not to mention the numerous hard times I had to go through when removing the slippery Honda filter. That said, my 2008 CR-V is such a pleasure to work on - that includes the completely exposed oil filter positioned right next to the drain plug! Anyway, thanks for the upload!

The blue stuff is not loctite it is a marker walmart uses to show they did the last oil change in case a customer messes with it then tries to claim fault on walmart

Thanks for doing the video. I just acquired a 2006 CRV 2WD and am doing fluids. I also found a Fram filter after looking everywhere for it. You show from the top but sketchy from the bottom. After finally seeing it, used a plate wrench to take it off. Will only use Honda filters from now on.

ATG & MRDC said you can change oil at 10K if using full synthetic oil with high graded oil filter.
ATG & Costco has Kirkland that is just as good as Mobil 1.
ATG & I used it on our sport cars, power boats & planes. We only replaced the oil filter.
    20k no problem.

I used an inexpensive adjustable oil filter wrench. It uses an adjustable rubber belt to grip the filter. Yes, this CRV take about 4.5qts. Good luck on future projects!

17 mm, millimeters NOT inches for the drain plug. I'd avoid FRAM filters, they're not the same quality as they used to be.

@mailman7478 Only issue i had with Fram is that the rubber ring seal breaks loose and sticks to the block even if you coat it with oil before installing it. Make for a bad mess if you don't notice it.

If you love your engine, but you want it to love you back, forget about shops and dealers and manuels recommending 8-10,000 mile oil changes!! Oil is cheap love!

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS ADVISE BECAUSE YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! When its hot itll be above that, and since your clearly overfilling it you will loose around 25% of your Catalytic Converters lifespan possibly even more depending on the climate that its driven in. Fact, it clearly states that under your hood!
