Love your detailed videos. I especially like the one where you spread the snello onto waxed paper and just cut it into pieces. Nice because I don’t have a lot of molds.
I've been burning through algae tabs and other sinking pellets trying to keep my snails happy. Will give this a try. I have a 125 full of mystery snails and I probably enjoy watching them as much as my tanks with just fish in them. They're like little aliens. Subbed and liked... thanks for the recipe.
I made a batch of snello last night. 2nd try and it was a success. I literally through everything and the kitchen sink in. It settled perfectly. I cubed some and threw 3 pieces in last night. Today they were gone. I think snails and fished loved it!😄Thank you!
Thank you! You can find my snails at www.ourfishcollective.com/lavsnails if you don't see the color your looking for; I update what colors are available as soon as they are old enough to ship! The list is constantly changing and check back every couple weeks to see what colors have been added! Thanks for your support and interest!♥️🐌♥️
I’m new to your channel and watched the snail on the lower left corner the whole end of the video wondering what was wrong with it since it wasn’t moving! 😂🤣. Now I get it.
Do I need to add de-chlorination into the water after I boil the water or before? Or are you boiling used fish tank water? Or does boiling water remove chlorine anyway? Sorry, new to this and was concerned about putting chlorine in my tank. I have a beautiful mystery snail who shares his tank with guppies and a few Pygmy Corys.
Does it matter if the veggies are frozen or canned or fresh? If canned do you still need to cook it first since it’s cooked during the canning process?
Doesn't matter. Though it is important that neither contains salt. So if canned, no salt added, then no need to cook if it is canned. But yes cook them well if fresh or frozen 🐌👍💜
HELP I don't think I had enough gelatin. How long should I wait to find out that I messed up? And Is there anyway I can save this batch and go get more gelatin? I wish i could show you what my kitchen looks like!
So it turned out ok after all and the snails and shrimp love it! But did you mention how often you feed them snello? Ps love the WoW theme. They should pay you for this cuz it makes one want to quest again!
😅 me too! My vita-mix didn’t do the same easy-looking job Lav’s did. Also, did she use. 2-cup measuring cup? Because she said two cups I put my water in my 4-cup, the only larger size than 1 cup. 😮
I've watched all of your videos over the last couple of weeks and I feel like I am now ready to care for a mystery snail. I would like to put it in my cherry shrimp tank, but as it turns out, we're going on vacation in about two months. I know the shrimp will be just fine with a mulberry leaf, snowflake food and a water change right before our one week vacation, but what about the snail? Would it devour all the food in no time within the first couple of days(or day)? Is there any sort of snail food that will last several days without polluting the water too much? If it turns out I need a snail sitter I might just have to wait until after we come back from vacation to purchase my little snail. Thanks in advance for your snailly input🐌❤
Wow...I am so sorry I missed this comment until now. 🤦♀️. While I think they may in fact be okay for the duration, I do agree it may be better to wait till you return from your trip to buy your new snail friend. Again, very sorry I missed this comment. Let me know if I can help any further. Have a lovely trip! 🐌💜
Hello! Thanks for sharing! I was wondering what is the real value of the jello in the recipe? Wouldn't just offering some cubes of frozen puree with vegetables, fish food and calcium cut it? IDK, I made this jello and it really clouds the water. Since it is going to be frozen anyway, wouldn't be a jello-free recipe keep the water cleaner? Have you ever tried it?
why is it floating. Mine is frozen... One sunk..so frustrating HELP Just had my first eggs laid. Thanks Lav...Love you views of the tanks and the movement most along with the info.
Usually whatever i can find cheap on amazon I use. Usually no i don't have to make modifications. Only time i do is if the breeder box is not floating properly
Not really, sometimes I use tank water and sometimes tap. Depends on my tank water levels and when I last water changed. You can absolutely use tap water, the boiling process should kill/destroy anything we wouldn't want in our tanks. 👍🐌💜
Excellent video!! I noticed that you have guppies with your snails. Do the guppies bother the snails? Whenever I put snails in with my guppies, the guppies pick on them, so the snails are not very active.
Thank you so much! I have guppies in all my snail tanks, to keep detritus worms and copepods in check mostly and they don't normally cause issues with the snails at all. I even keep them with my tiny tiny baby snails! Try, try again perhaps?🤷♀️ best of luck♡
@@LavsSnails I just googled guppies picking on mystery snails. I found a lot of people having the same problem. I am not alone. You have been lucky. I will be ordering some snails from you, and rehoming my guppies. Snails are just cool.
@@LavsSnails thank you! By the way, I love your videos!! I binge watched them last night, and even made my own snail food based off your video. Very helpful and entertaining. I am waiting on my first clutch to hatch (laid 5 days ago), so I definitely needed the help.
Ashleigh, I’ve been Mystery Snailing for two years. I found one of Lavynia’s videos while watching something totally different about 8 days ago. She inspired me me start making Snello again, Which I did. And it was way easier than I had previously had learned, and yes they do love it. And today I’m binge watching all her videos and comments. Just find it interesting that we are doing the same thing at the same time, lol.
I gave my old grandfather snail Val’s air bath except I left my hand in the tank under a leaf and he revived. I then put him down and saw him crawling toward food. It worked!🥰
I personally have not used garlic in my snails diet. I have read of people doing so, (ie: feeding garlic soaked food to their fish & then the snails eat the remnants) with no I'll side effects. Personally though, I have always been weary of it as many people use garlic to keep land snails out of their gardens, my anxiety has always been high about adding it to snellos. But, again, I haven't read anything negative happening to mysteries from eating it. I just can't speak from personal experience. If you do try it, let me know how it goes 👍 GL! 🐌💜
For the first time I failed. My snails won’t eat it and m out of food. Please message me with advise. Dianna Leigh. I don’t want them to starve. The food won’t harden except in the freezer. Did I put too much carrot and sweet potato in? Can’t think if anything else bless too many beans. I used canned but just poured them into the broccoli and zuccwhich were both overcooked into mush. I’ll try again today. Almost out of calcium. 😢
They will still eat the snello even if it's not completely setup, just put it in very carefully and in small amounts. If you have a feeding dish that may contain the mess. In a desperate situation, They can eat any green veggie you may have left in cooked form, even Fish flakes or strained veggies from a can, algae wafers, pretty much any kind of fish food at all will work, even shrimp or turtle Pellets. They won't starve. It would take time for that, and they would scavenge the tank for food first and then eat plants to avoid death. Like I said, starvation would take time, so don't worry about that ♡. I'm sure you have something they can and will eat. Good luck. 🐌💜
Ok. I’ve been dying to ask somebody why the vegs need to be cooked and blanched. Do you know ? I can’t find that information anywhere and it seems weird that we would want to cook it when in nature their food isn’t cooked.
Yeah! So, the veg needs to be cooked/blanched to break it down a bit so they can rasp it easier and actually eat it. Otherwise, the veg would spoil in our tanks before they would eat it. True, in nature their food isn't cooked and has time to break down on its own naturally. But then, the body of water they may be in in the wild is probably a bigger system and constantly being filtered by nature.
Okay wow didn't know I could let that many live together! But my only question after watching you feed them is why the heck aren't they all snexing? Do you keep genders separated??? Mine just snex all the dang time and it drives me crazy! I pulled 5 males off of one female today and moved her out of the tank. Is it true they can pretend to be the opposite sex? They cannot be both sexes or change? I've read that they cannot. Thanks! I'm gonna try this snello out, mine are not getting enough protein.
Yes that can happen! You are not doing anything wrong at all I am sure the snello is yummy! Couple things you can do: either break it into smaller pieces and see if it sinks then OR use a toothpick or a skewer to make it stay at the bottom. Sometimes I make snello "kabobs" on a skewer and poke it into the substrate, that may work too. 👍🐌💜

Can snails eat califlower in snello?
Yes! I feed cauliflower all the time!👍
