Interesting...but I find Dr. Loeb's assertion that our significance correlates to our location relative to the center of the galaxy rather presumptuous. The brain is nowhere near the center of the human body. Is it insignificant? The Great Barrier Reef is not anywhere near the middle of the Coral Sea. Is it insignificant?
I think they evolved either here or on Mars .... there could be alot of life that was on both planets (either naturally or by design) and now Mars is almost dead, its more likely than travelling light years from another star or galaxy.

Also, their advanced technology would show that their race is much older than us. Allowing time for technical and spiritual advancement. An Alien species with such advance technology could kill the human race instantly. Yet, they have not done so already. I guessing since there are two trillion galaxies in the observable universe, there would be at least several or numerous alien species in existence. If true then there would be some type of intergalactic agreement/regulations in place in which an alien species cannot destroy another species planet. I do believe that earth and all the living beings in it are fascinating, beautiful and at times very worrisome thus motivating any alien species to observe us.
