- I have been a fan of Ported Throttle bodies for a long time, overall the age long argument of 'does this actually give you more power' is always followed behind discussions of products like these. Well today not only do I show you how to install this easy and fairly inexpensive upgrade, but I also got Dyno results to help prove out that this addition should not be over looked in your quest to a fully stage 1 car.

How exactly do unplug/disconnect the connector? Without breaking it. Do you press & pull?

Fortunately VMax Motorsports is here in West Central FL and I'm in Orlando. Met Chris Hidalgo from VMax this morning and installed the new ported throttle body in the Mickey Ds parking lot in Plant City, FL in only about 5 to 10 min. max. I gotta say this is probably one of the "Best Bangs for the Buck", as far as 2016 Camaro SS mods go. It gave me better response, especially from idle, but pretty much completely throughout the entire power band. The kick in the pants meter, believe it or not, definitely went up a natch or two. There is no question, you can feel the difference. In my case, already having the "Cold Air Inductions" CAI probably also helped, the throttle body do a little better job. Don't hesitate, "Best mod for the money not there".

Not sure I understand. I didn't mention any numbers, just that I liked what it does and that it feels a little stronger. I know what the dyno says.

Love it I have my Denali LT2 intake manifold and ZR1 95mm throttle body and I love it.

How about using a Dremel to grind the extra metal on the original throttle body? Then polish the surface
Yeah, I'd say polish the sh#% out of the front & back of that throttle body. Has to be good for another horse.
This is what I did, works just as good. Just do the inlet up to the butterfly. Don't do the rear unless you port match the Manifold.

Just spoke to Pete from VMax Motorsports. Turns out they are here in Central Florida and he is going to meet me in Orlando in a few weeks. You have to return the original throttle body or they charge you.

+Demar Gio the core charge is refunded once you mail them back your stock Throttle Body.
you tried with the pedal commander for the accelerator lag changes a lot the reaction of the car

If I install a 92mm throttle body on my ss would I need a tune? I have a k & n cai, borla atak exhaust, and kooks long tube headers
Hey Lethal. Have you contemplated installing a spacer for the throttle body? Curious to see if there are any gains with one. Would love to see a video on that.

Those are from the carb days. They do nothing for a port or direct injected car.
What is your opinion on electronic throttle controllers?
If I was thinking about upgrading the intake manifold, would the ported throttle body be an item to ignore for now, or does the new intake manifold use the same throttle body?

What’s up Lethal. I’ve gotten my kooks headers, cai, flex fuel and corsa axle back tuned last weekend. If I install this throttle body now do I have to retune ? Or will it bolt up and work just as effectively
Same question....does it screw with the A/F ratio much? Need a tune afterwards?

I’d wait for more upgrades than an intake and ported TB before tuning.
Any issues with removing the throttle body for a cleaning? ,warning lights that might appear?
Of course not. They make specific cleaner for it.
Do you still recommend this throttle body for a stock 6th gen ?
If you have nothing else done, it’s a pointless upgrade
Curious, I noted that when you did your dyno tests it was with the stock air box. I'm wondering if the numbers would be any different if tested with one of the 2 cold air intakes that you have tested.
+John Weber after testing 2 CAI'S with and without the Ported TB... no difference.
+Lethalhammer Hmmm... So, your saying that with a cold air intake the ported throttle body made no difference what so ever? But on the stock air box it produced about a 3 bhp and 2 or 3 trq. at the wheels? That's odd. It makes more sense that both devices creating more air flow and working together would produce more hp & trq. Very curious...

Did you still have to tune your vehicle, because I've heard that if you don't tune it the computer will tune it back to the stock settings?

I just upgraded from a v6. I really recommend saving your money. I must of put $5000 in it, and it was an awesome car. However, the SS life is a game changer. Wait for HP upgrades when you get one of them. I lost all the money of upgrading the v6, for a little increase. Just save and trade in when the time is right.
Have you done a remapping of the ECU? Curious what a program update could do.
I have the Vitesse Throttle Controller, regardless doesn't feel much different.
The power this new engine puts out is amazing. GM really knocked it out of the Park with this new Camaro. What in the world will the new ZL1 or Z28 put out? You are talking about 0-60 times of 3.5 sec or less. I think it will be time to come out with the IROC series from the 80s again. My 1984 Z28 which I purchased new only had 165 HP lol.
IROC is dead, time for something new.
+Lethalhammer Funny they said the same thing for the Z28 and Camaro a few years ago.
+Jon Car the Z/28 never really died. They just didn't release a car with the badge until late into the Gen5's life cycle.
IROC to make a come back would require more than just a car, but an entire race series that has been gone for years.

I just installed a Vmax ported throttle body. When I start the car, the throttle body clicks 10 times while running. Then I shut it off, and tried restarting a few times, the same thing happens, any ideas? I thought it was recalibrating, but it does it everytime I start it.
It looks like a bad unit. I put my stock one back on, no issues.I even tried to swap out the motor and cover off of the Throttle Body.

the only real difference has been the slight sucking noise from the TB.

More air flow, better control of the blade and better idle on a built motor.

He'll go get some race gas and get 20- 30 HP and a water meth injection and get 20 more with a good set of long headers and your looking at 60 HP over stock add a cam and go big
4 and 2? Ain't worth the price or effort.
It’s meant for more crisper and better throttle response it does help out mid range . 4 hp gains could be across board 4-10 hp depending conditions and fuel
I can tell that you have no idea what you are talking about. Let an adult explain this to you. The throttle body might give you a tiny performance increase, but what your limited mind could not comprehend is that the stock throttle body is a laggy piece of shit and the new throttle body is more about responsiveness then gains.. Go back to your stanced civic with 12 hp little girl.
