It’s because he failed at the role and just tried to pretend like he was doing the role with all the over the top method bullshit which didn’t translate to screen at all.. He terrorised the actors on set, sent them used condoms, cut their hair, was totally rediculous, but it was never about the acting and never about the role.. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a amazing actor, Oscar winner.. but he fell totally off the mark on joker.. Heath ledger also did the whole method thing with his joker, which people say ultimately led him to taking his own life.. but on set everyone loved him.. he was professional about.. not just some plastic homage to the idea..

You basically live and breathe the character so you're not acting anymore....it tries create a more genuine product on screen.... so if your character is a psychopath you become psychopath.....Dustin Hoffman been famously needed to go through therapy for years to undue after method acting his role in Rainman. But my acting coach said and now I believe rings true...It's more impressive to see an actor switch immediately into acting and then back again to reality because then you're actually you know..... acting.

They both need each other to justify themselves, especially in this world they find themselves in. A 5 minute scene showed the best portrayal of their history and dynamic that no other Batman and Joker combo has established in the other movies. Not even Heath and Bale pulled it off properly. And to be slightly controversial here, Heath's Joker is barely the Joker at heart at all. The movie comes off more as a terrorist who finds temporary enjoyment of toying with Batman trying to make him break his code and failed. Leto's Joker turned Batman into the last thing he swore he'd never be. That's the history and arc of Batman and Joker. 5 Minutes showed 5 movies worth of history with the tension displayed that we didn't even have to see ourselves to feel and the dark knight failed at showing even a fraction of that history or dynamic.

You have to get the laugh right if you play the Joker. Hamill and Ledger set the bar extremely high. Jack's version wasn't on their level, but I loved him too. It’s a shame we never got David Ayer’s uncompromised vision outside of studio interference. I feel like we only got the reshoots version of Joker.

This is one of the few modern Superhero movies I don’t physically own. Right from the start I could tell this was made because guardians of the galaxy had success and WB of course trying to catch up with Marvel went now let us do one.

I think Jared was awesome in the role, while his Joker will inevitably be compared to others I admire that he did it differently and it was cool. The movie could have been done without Will though, bad casting IMO.

I haven't seen the original full-length interview this comes from so I have no idea how much Smith talked or not originally, but it's likely Leto is appearing on the show soon and that's why clips of him were showcased.

Not really. Jared is clearly a sensational actor, but David Ayer (the writer/director/producer) is a total amateur hack job. I lay all the blame at his feet.
@@FreakieFan His cut has 45 minutes worth of screen time for the Joker that everybody else wanted cut out of the movie. And even said that his idea for the Joker was supposed to be much more menacing with actual build.

I don’t like how actors that take on the role of the Joker feel the need to dive deep into the character and go to extremes to do a great job. It’s like they’re trying to mimic Heath Ledger’s joker but that will never be topped.
