Can't wait for the 14' review My only 2 complaints my XPS 13 Plus have been piss-poor battery life, and a 60Hz Refresh Rate. If Dell has managed to fix that, then I might get one. Tho you'll have to acknowledge just how crazy Apple's M-Series and A-Series SoCs have been. My 14'1 MBP lasted for more than twice the time my XPS 13 did, with the exact same things running. Office apps, Slack, Outlook, Chrome, Edge, YT Music, WhatsApp, and a few other random and work apps, at 100% brightness and maximum Refresh Rates. The 13 Plus with a 60Hz Refresh Rate [as compared to 120Hz on the MacBook] collapsed so quick, whilst my MacBook lasted me an entire workday. Just insane. On the other hand, Qualcomm's SnapDragon 8 Gen 3 is still behind the A17 Pro in terms of raw performance and efficiency. Just wow. Nice review anyways bud.
How good the antireflective coating? definitely interested to see how it stacks up against the coating samsung put on the galaxybook 4 series which seems to do an excellent job.
UNfortunatelly I must say I think they did kill off the XPS line. The touch function keys and ESC key which I must say is a separate problem. Also I liked so much their carbon fiber feel of classic XPS line.... They do need to preserve it somehow. The only good thing I think is that they may have discounts on last year model you still can get the best windows laptop for some time.
Yeah, the escape key, lack of carbon fiber (I love the look and contrast it gives a silver laptop), downgrade to one M.2 slot, and soldered RAM just make it a no-go for me. Not to mention how the performance difference is negligible. Also, I've got 6TB of storage in my 9500 across two drives - they don't even make NVMEs over 4TB so I'd have to downgrade. I luckily picked up a 9530 i9/4060 motherboard for cheap off ebay so I'll have almost the same performance as this for less than 1/4 of the cost (incl. the 9500!). Seems like there are far better options unless you want to flex how much money you can blow on gadgets.
About touchpad-click on Dell XPS: it is as good as on MacBooks? I have a MacBook Air and want a Windows computer, but can't find a touchpad on Windows computer where you don't have to press much harder on the touchpad than on the MacBook. I see that XPS has a Sensel touchpad and would like to know if I finally can get a Windows computer with a touchpad where I don't have to press hard to click..
Great video/review as always. Did you notice that the new XPS 13 and 16 both have WIFI 7? However, the new XPS 14 does not. The new XPS 14 comes with WIFI 6E. I hope it is just a typo on the website.
Thank you so much for your honest review Andrew, I am always listening the xps models from you. I hate when the price is pumped for unnecessary things like 4k screen. There is really no reason to have such high screen resolution on such small screen, especially when it runs on battery. The same goes to the touch screen, this is a pc not a tablet, the programs we use on pc are not developed by touch controls in mind. Another thing is that those lower ram speeds and lack of vapor-chamber cooling system on the non-4070 configuration. That new intel chip housing a very decent igpu and igpus have higher performances on higher ram speeds as they do not possess their own drams. And one last thing is that I still do not understand why we are not able to run these machines on smartphone like chargers, just put type-c to type-c cable and a GaN charger/adapter, this would be super good on those non-discreet-gpu configurations. Imagine carrying only one charger and one cable that are compatible with both your smartphone and your laptop.
Hi Andrew, I have a question about the XPS 13 Plus 9230 2023 vs XPS 13 2024 9340 model. For 200 GBP pounds less. I can get the 13 Plus 1360p 3.5k OLED vs The XPS 13 9340 with the Ultra 5 at FHD+ non touch. I don't want to spend any more than that as the Ultra 7 is out of my budget. Out of the 2 models which one would you get and which one is worth the money. I am leaning towards last years model as it will come with an OLED and is slightly cheaper. But that's about it. How does the 1360p compare to the Ultra 5. Thanks in advance :)
Personally, the 2023 XPS is a better device. The escape and function keys should be physical keys, not only is it worst for typing, the 'peace of mind' knowing that when I press a key, I know it was pressed is a big deal. The fact that the RAM is not upgradable and there being only one m.2 slot is also pathetic. Repairability and upgradability should be standard at this price. The screen being 90hz is great but why is it not 120hz, at this price that's not acceptable (the 2023 model is in the same boat.. 60hz... really?). I am glad that in Canada, Dell was selling the XPS 15 9530 at a nice discount, and I am very glad I picked it up at that price.
I don't recall if you said this here or I heard it elsewhere, but apparently the graphics card for the 16" only goes up to 60w, while other such laptops go up to 90w. Is that the case, and do you see that as an issue? I'm not a gamer, not really, but I am on the computer long hours day and night, doing loads of every day stuff, with many tabs up, streaming, youtubing, searching, with some downloaded financial desk top software always on with streaming charts and quotes, and doing lots of multi tasking, plugged in more often than mobile, but definitely some of both.
Nvidia Optimus will shut off the RTX card when it's not being used, so there should be minimal battery life loss from choosing the discrete GPU option. At least this is how it is on my XPS 15.
I am going to college and I am majoring in CS I wanted to get the XPS 15 as its really cheap for what its offering but my parents are miltary and we are stationed in italy and dell doesnt ship from us to italy so my dad is going to have me wait to buy a laptop in 6-7 months, I was wondering how much the xps 16 will drop by then if at all, because right now its really expensive.
The good: New speaker location, Thunderbolt 4 ports, new energy efficient Intel Ultra CPU (15 hours of video playback), improved RAM speed, Wi-Fi 7 (46Gbps data transfer speed), 90hz refresh rate, and 1080p web camera. The bad: Electronic F keys, RAM is not adjustable, and a decrease in single core performance.
I’m confused whether I should the 14 with a 4050 or the 16 with a 4060 cause I have a gaming pc and mostly game there and just need this for like simio and light gaming
As always... Thanks for the great reviews!!! How does 90hz feels compared to 120hz just for scrolling an touch navigating the Windows UI ? Noticble difference ? Are you going to review the XPS 14 version as wel ? Then it's maybe a good comparision for the refresh rate :) Did you notice any Screen door effect or moire pattern due to the touch layer ? Thanks!
I think 90hz is fine especially for battery life. To me not a big difference overall. There is a a screen door effect but to me not very noticeable unless you really look super close
Only the 155H processor? What’s going on with the 165H and 185H? They’re supposed to offer much bigger performance, but intel has been totally silent on them and nobody has mentioned it. I see some sites list them as mid-March availability, but with no benchmarks at all even leaked it seems like they’re missing in action. For laptop like this, where performance is key they seem like the better processors, will be interesting if they even offer the 185H as isn’t it supposed to be a higher TDP at 45W? Can a laptop effectively be designed for two different TDP’s?
I again saw your ASUS Zenbook Pro 16X OLED UX7602 review and it exported 3 min H.264 video in 1min 32 seconds. It has terrible battery life. Dell xps 16 2024 did same in 53 seconds and has much much better battery life. Wow very impressive.
No upgradeable RAM: terrible. I've bought dozens of XPSes since 2015 and one of the first things we did was chuck out the stock RAM and SSD and replace those with top-of-the-line brand name versions. Luckily the Framework 16 is out and shipping just in time and I can switch guilt-free.
Hi Any idea if the new XPS laptops with basic setup will support external monitor with 5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, like the Dell U4025QW? Thanks.
To me I think it looks really great and has a a some what futuristic style to it. And I think Dell is mostly trying to stand out from the rest of the other laptop brands out there but however by doing so and implementing some elements does limit the laptops capabilities in the long run
I have no idea how anyone came to the conclusion removing the function keys was a good idea. I would be very interested in this machine if they hadn't made this absolutely boneheaded design decision.
Would've liked some gpu power limit testing for the different power modes as well as timespy scores and fan noise in each. Can it even achieve or maintain 60w outside of screamer 50db mode? I am not very impressed with this laptop. It's rather thick for a laptop with only usb-c ports, thicker than both the zephyrus g16 and galaxy book4 ultra. Heavier by almost a pound too. And has the weakest gpu performance. G14 can reach 115w and book3 ultra can get 80w. And we have the other compromises like it being more expensive than those two, questionable keyboard and touchpad usability, and slower display.
Nice PC. Camera is much better than previous year's models. It goes to show they could have put in a 1080 camera on those earlier models but they did not. Display looks excellent. Very little screen wobble which is good. Battery life appears very good. Like the fact they included three USB-C ports. This way two are available when connected to AC power adapter. HP Spectre 16 in. did not include the third USB-C port when replacing the barrel pin charging to USB-C charging. Like the fact they included a micro sd card reader. In this day and age many sd micro cards are sold with an adapter and it is really not an issue to me that it is a micro reader. Personally I do not like the capacitive function row on top and on this model do not care for the light colored keys with the backlight as they are hard to see in certain lighting conditions. Even though some specs are slightly slower than previous years' models they are still more than adequate for most users and should not be an issue. Wish it had a full size numpad. Q. Is the wifi card slotted in or soldered in? Really not an issue since this card will be more than sufficient for the life of this unit. Anyway another great review.
Can someone give me the breakdown? I need a laptop for photo and video editing.. (adobe programs) should I go for the 14 or 16!? Or are they both not worth it?
Fantastic review Andrew. Is the screen difference between this and the XPS 17 noticeable? Still wondering if I should get a high spec XPS 17 to maximise screen real estate.
does anyone know if this is supporting the pd-3.1 charging standard so we can finally use 3rd party chargers without being limited to 65W? finally a full 4k oled panel again (it took them years since the 7590 release) but whats the reason for the 90Hz limitation (120 is standard for high end this year)? - they should have uses their own camm modules - bummer!
Thanks for the amazing review Andrew. 1. Does the OLED touch screen go all the way to the back so it can be used as a tablet? 2. How is the battery on the Dell 14" and would you say that the battery life would even be better if you didn't buy it with the graphic card buy just the Arc?
Screen does not go all the way back but goes far back enough for comfortable viewing angles. I don't have the 14" just yet so I will reserve judgment until I can test it. Thanks.
Hi! Will you also review the new Dell Inspiron 16 plus (7640)? It has the same processor of this one, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, and there isn't any review online at the moment. A reviewer reported temperature issues with the 14 plus and I was wondering if the 16 plus has the same issues. Thank you in advance :)
I've had three Dell notebooks and they all failed on me in various ways. Now I have an Asus OLED 14x. It's much better. My father also switched to a similar Asus two years ago and also very pleased. Don't know about dual-screen one though, sounds like a gimmick. For better multitasking nothing beats a decent wide-screen monitor with pd over usb-c.
I know the configurator on the Dell website is subject to change (they don't even have the higher CPUs listed yet) but why on earth does 64GB require 4070 and Intel Arc REQUIRES 16GB. You cannot have integrated graphics with 32GB.

Does the XPS line finally have a proper sleep mode, where you can close the lid and not come back the next morning to a dead laptop (if it's unplugged) or to roaring fans (if you didn't)?
So far sleep mode is working well and very little battery drain.
@@andrewmarcdavid I've found that if there's a Windows update, for example, it will install it while it's "sleeping" and when I open the lid in the morning, it's either dead or the fans are roaring. It's been this way for years with the XPS line.

My only 2 complaints my XPS 13 Plus have been piss-poor battery life, and a 60Hz Refresh Rate.
The XPS touchpads aren't as good as MacBooks. Heck, even cheaper HP laptops have better touchpads.
I was impressed by the new XPS when I saw it in my local Best Buy. Your review is at the same level.
Great review - thanks!

Nothing from Samsung, at least to me so far.
You surprised me to do Dell XPS 16 2024 review.🎉🎉
Imagine carrying only one charger and one cable that are compatible with both your smartphone and your laptop.
you can get it with 1080p as well
@@KyriakosKtoridesTrue, but it is not OLED. They are not providing a "1920x1200 non-touch OLED. You have to go for higher resolution for that.

You need to add a time test with full brightness and a full processor utilization.
Nice video! Wow, these things are crazy expensive in Australia!
at what resolution did you benchmark your gaming thanks?
Top tier review. Really considering this one and the galaxy book 4 ultra. Can u do a review of it?
nice review andrew!

It does not cease to amaze how the macbook's sound just smokes anything else on the market, insane.
Does having a the RTX 4050 installed, even being idle cause lower battery life? Is there an option to just shut it off completely?
Nvidia Optimus will shut off the RTX card when it's not being used, so there should be minimal battery life loss from choosing the discrete GPU option. At least this is how it is on my XPS 15.
I am going to college and I am majoring in CS I wanted to get the XPS 15 as its really cheap for what its offering but my parents are miltary and we are stationed in italy and dell doesnt ship from us to italy so my dad is going to have me wait to buy a laptop in 6-7 months, I was wondering how much the xps 16 will drop by then if at all, because right now its really expensive.
I do expect to to go down in price just not sure exactly when
@@andrewmarcdavid Do you think you have an estimate/guess around how much itll drop ish by?
how is web / text legibility on the OLED panel vs. a traditional panel?
The good: New speaker location, Thunderbolt 4 ports, new energy efficient Intel Ultra CPU (15 hours of video playback), improved RAM speed, Wi-Fi 7 (46Gbps data transfer speed), 90hz refresh rate, and 1080p web camera.
The bad: Electronic F keys, RAM is not adjustable, and a decrease in single core performance.
According to dells website the 14 inch doesnt have wifi 7, only 6E. Didnt check the 16.
LPCAMM is coming.
I’m confused whether I should the 14 with a 4050 or the 16 with a 4060 cause I have a gaming pc and mostly game there and just need this for like simio and light gaming
I still find it amazing that Dell has not updated its logo. It's holding back the overall design of the laptops.
What's there to fix? The logo is simple and good. They have plenty of other matters to fix in their laptops instead of the logo...
Their audience doesn't care about the logo. They do care about function keys and adjustable RAM.
I agree. The logo hasn't aged well
What a ridiculous comment!
Still way better than the horrible Asus logo which they still use
Thanks for the review Andrew

Did the speakers rattle when you were doing the audio test? Mine seem to rattle whenever you get it to 50 volume and play any sort of audio
Thanks!

What about the SSD upgrade options? Is there an empty slot in there for an extra ssd?
No
I again saw your ASUS Zenbook Pro 16X OLED UX7602 review and it exported 3 min H.264 video in 1min 32 seconds. It has terrible battery life.
Dell xps 16 2024 did same in 53 seconds and has much much better battery life. Wow very impressive.
Thank you, great presentation - any chance of reviewing the new Inspiron 16 Plus (7640)?
Thanks and hopefully soon.
I did. It beats this laptop in nearly every way.
Have you got the XPS 14 in-house at all yet David? Interested to see what the battery life is on that
Not yet, but hopefully soon.
Hi
Any idea if the new XPS laptops with basic setup will support external monitor with 5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, like the Dell U4025QW? Thanks.
Another great review. Looking forward to the XPS 14 one when you get it in!

Excellent review.
Thanks. Really appreciate it!
I'm between the 9730 and the 9640 ... which should I get?
Any lenovo laptop videos coming up?
Yes, stay tuned.
To me I think it looks really great and has a a some what futuristic style to it. And I think Dell is mostly trying to stand out from the rest of the other laptop brands out there but however by doing so and implementing some elements does limit the laptops capabilities in the long run
But for me I'll still buy the XPS 16
I have no idea how anyone came to the conclusion removing the function keys was a good idea. I would be very interested in this machine if they hadn't made this absolutely boneheaded design decision.
Not to mention this happened after APPLE GAVE UP on that idea. And somehow Dell thought that it was a good idea and ripped it off even worse.
I have more testing on the way for a follow up review.
Would this laptop benefit if they adapted amd or snapdragon elite?
I believe the wifi card is soldered. Thanks William as always!
Looks very promising. Might get this for my new job i think. Battery life seems to be way better than my hp elitebook g7.
Can someone give me the breakdown? I need a laptop for photo and video editing.. (adobe programs) should I go for the 14 or 16!? Or are they both not worth it?
Can I use this laptop for Blender or any 3d software like Blender?
I thought the XPS 16 was going to get the Core Ultra 9? Or was that pushed for a later update to the model
Core Ultra 9 coming soon. I am waiting for Dell with date.
Andrew! Thank you very much!
My pleasure!
Fantastic review Andrew. Is the screen difference between this and the XPS 17 noticeable? Still wondering if I should get a high spec XPS 17 to maximise screen real estate.
It depends. I find the 16.3-in the perfect size. But everyone has their own personal preference.
With my xps 15 I just wish the speakers had a bit more bass compared to my macbook pro 16 inch. Clarity is great.
does anyone know if this is supporting the pd-3.1 charging standard so we can finally use 3rd party chargers without being limited to 65W?
finally a full 4k oled panel again (it took them years since the 7590 release) but whats the reason for the 90Hz limitation (120 is standard for high end this year)?

Would this be ideal for an engineering student? Thinking either this xps 16 or the previous xps15.
It depends. Some have complained about the capacitive row and lack of physical function keys. So it just depends.
it looks like it has only one upgradable NVMe SSD slot unlike the last 17 inch.. which had two ssd slots.. is this correct?
The XPS 17 had a second SSD slot.
Do you have any list of upgradable laptops for 2024? I have xps 9510 with 2 ssds and 64Gb of RAM.
Framework Laptop 16 or wait for CES 2025.
Would you recommend this or the spectre x360 16”? How do they compare?
It depends on a number of factors. I will be doing a video on this so stay tuned.
Speakers are boomy. 10 watts power. XPS 16 (9640) should be my favorite laptop for 2024.
Do you recommend this laptop or the Asus dual screen? Which one is better? For multi-task and editing?
I've had three Dell notebooks and they all failed on me in various ways. Now I have an Asus OLED 14x. It's much better. My father also switched to a similar Asus two years ago and also very pleased.
Don't know about dual-screen one though, sounds like a gimmick. For better multitasking nothing beats a decent wide-screen monitor with pd over usb-c.
The port selection makes me long for the 2010 Dell XPS that had a dedicated GPU, subwoofer, and plenty of connectivity.
I know the configurator on the Dell website is subject to change (they don't even have the higher CPUs listed yet) but why on earth does 64GB require 4070 and Intel Arc REQUIRES 16GB. You cannot have integrated graphics with 32GB.
Is it touchscreen? Is it 360?
Thanks for you review.
