    I’m really happy I found your channel. I lost my health insurance for a bit and couldn’t take my thyroid medicine for a long time. I started to not be able to move as much and slept much too long. I kept gaining weight and felt very hopeless. But now that I’ve been taking it again, I feel like I’ve left a slump I’ve been in for a long time. I very recently started taking care of myself again and I’m really happy your videos are here. Another vegetarian source of collagen (not vegan) is eggshell membrane. Very easy to make yourself. Boil the eggs and instead of throwing out the shells, strip away the white membrane that's attached to the inner side of the shell and eat it. It's a source of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin . There are a few companies that sell eggshell membrane (NEM), but it's easier and cheaper to make. Boiling the eggs doesn't denature the collagen. Collagen isn't denatured until around 500F.
    You can also use the whole shells as a source of calcium.

      This is a much better option for me than seaweed as I am allergic to seaweed. I am a vegan but will flex on eggs because no chickens are harmed in the making of the eggs where at the farm we buy them from.

    White Chinese bird'snest mushroom or also called snow fungus is also super packed with collagen. It's sold at local Asian grocery stores and looks like a sea sponge. It is vegan it's a mushroom. Soak it in warm water for 15 minutes then cut off the tough yellow parts. Boil in large pot with adequate water until the water is syrupy. I usually season with a vegan bouillon ginger and pepper, fresh green scallions on each portion. Stores in the fridge for a week. Also really awesome if you have an upset stomach or sore throat avoid putting in black pepper if sick though.

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The supplement industry is much like the beauty/cosmetic industry. They are simply trying to sell as much product to as many consumers as possible. The thing is, most of the claims/promises on the majority of those products have no validity and the companies are banking (literally) on people's desire to obtain a certain goal. I don't buy into it (pun intended).

I am a 25-year-old girl and I'm getting into skincare and mindfulness so your videos are like a Godsend :) I wanted to ask you something and I really really hope you understand where I'm coming from. I'm wanting to start on retin-a soon and I was wondering if you ever explained/talked about that little brown spot you have under your right eye ( I think). Is this sun damage? Why do you think your skincare didn't help with that? Or maybe was the spot caused by the treatment? I really hope you understand why I'm asking - I don't want you to think that I think the spot makes any difference in how beautiful your skin is - it's just I'm curious and trying to know as much as possible before I start using Retin-A myself. I will continue watching your channel and I hope you grow your audience (but only if that's your wish too!)

    With bare hands watch out touching frozen ginger. Really handling it. At some point it can do something to the surface of the hands. At least if handling frozen items regularly.

    Can you do a video about your experience with veganism?

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Oh! I'm not vegan, nor am I vegetarian. While my diet is plant based (that is, mostly composed of vegetables and some fruits), I include certain animal foods to nourish my body and mind. When I was not eating meat for about 12 years of my life, my health suffered a great deal, and thankfully I've recovered since then and am continuing on that path forward.

      @@JenniferMyers I know that you're not vegan, but i was talking about the experience that you had in the past.

      My dietary experience, I see. I’m sorry, I misunderstood your comment! I can talk about that in a future video (at the risk of enraging those who are vegan, however). In any event I’ve written it down in my notebook for potential topics. Thank you for that suggestion. I think it’s an excellent one, but as I said it could rub people the wrong way. I suppose anything holds that risk, though. Thank you again. ❤️

    I respect your right to know what is best for you and your body but I think it is erroneous and misleading to tell people that synthetic vitamins are not bioavailable when it's obvious they are. I have a condition which inhibits my body from producing and absorbing vitamin D3 and B12. My blood levels were extremely low. My specialist prescribed supplements for both and my blood serum levels reflected that the supplements were indeed effective.
    I also take vegan blood builder by Garden of Life and my iron has returned to normal after post operative bleeding. Supplements work.

      I've not made either of those, I'm sorry! I prefer my marrow from grass fed beef bones, and that's the only bone broth I personally make and consume. (The amino acid profile of chicken is not nearly as robust, so that is why I prefer beef marrow bones.)
