If anything, the Galaxy-class SHOULD have had this design or kept the layout from the Ambassador-class.
That's an interesting question - both ships would have been designed at *about* the same time, so I wonder which design came first? The Defiant was going to be called the Valiant until they pointed out that Voyager was in production and they didn't want to have two ships starting with V.

At the start of the video it states that Star Fleet had the challenge of creating a ship that wasn't designed for a specific mission type. The problem with that is most starships such as all the Enterprises were designed for mutliple mission types from exploration and scientific research to defence or diplomacy.
Does the source you got the Deck 1 blueprint from show where the torpedo and shuttle replicators are located? Kidding, aside, I love the Voyager bridge and the overall design of the ship. Great video as always!

Yep this is definitely one of my favorite bridge designs (and ship designs) from all of Star Trek. I am curious, did the Voyager bridge get any small changes throughout its 7 season run like the Enterprise D did?
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios you forgot though that it turns out that the storage bins is where the extra TORPEDOS were stored so that there would be enough for a seven year mission
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios obviously they must have got the set right first time which is quite unusual in Star Trek. The conference room set was that good I believe they redressed it to use as Troi's office in Insurrection, but I am sure you can confirm if that is correct?
The show and ship I first grew up with! I loved Voyager, even with all of its faults in writing. The ship itself is sleek and powerful and the sense of scale is really shown here with the footage! I can imagine the Captain having to shout to be heard during Red Alert with explosions going on behind them. - What was used to model the ship interior and was it yourself who made it? I was just thinking. Bioneural Jel packs (Not sure how it's written). How creepy could it be if it was technology that could only be harvested from living beings and not replicated/synthesised?
The only particularly odd thing about the Intrepid class was just how much space is dedicated to the captain's private use. The captain's private space is larger than Galaxy class, which when you consider how much smaller the Intrepid class is really makes for an abnormal percentage of real estate. It's almost as if the design was supposed to be a private yacht before someone realized Starfleet wasn't likely to approve an Admiral's luxury retirement shuttle. For example on the Intrepid a captain was provided with a large office, a large private quarters, and a private galley large enough to be converted into a kitchen and dining area that comfortably served the ENTIRE CREW. I wouldn't be surprised if in the original design had intended to provide the captain with their own private golf course, before the writers errr. I mean Starfleet thought it was impractical to have the other 150 or so crew sleeping in the corridors with sleeping bags like homeless refuges.
Actually, only the galley area was supposed to be for the captain's private dining. The mess hall outside the galley (kitchen) was already for the entire crew. See the episode "The Phage" and you'll see that it was only the galley that Neelix created out of the captain's dining room. Ironically, Voyager did have a "Captain's Yacht" embedded under the "saucer" section that was similar to what was seen in Star Trek: Insurrection.
I always thought the Galaxy class’s bridge was just way too small and didn’t have enough stations or personnel for a ship of its size. This makes far more sense as a ship’s bridge.
wait. If helm was so wide that a single person had to slide around to reach it. why not 2 helmsmen? What was the layout that Paris didn't need to reach both sides at once?
Say about Voyager what you will but they had the best looking ship interiors. However, I don't like the lights on the bridge going off during alert status. The bridge looks so good when lit
How it really worked on the shows: Everyone could do everything from every console. ....unless an unauthorized person gained access to a panel elsewhere in the ship and locked out everyone on the main bridge.
I'm guessing the captain's and first officers chairs was a production choice because of the two crew's working together etc but I could never get my head around it...CAPTAINS CHAIR NEED'S TO BE IN THE CENTER
It's only watching this video that I've realised just how badly designed the bridge of Voyager actually was! The large consoles are a nice touch, as are the bench seats... but the tiny seats for the rest of the bridge crew look like cheap office chairs and are ridiculous! The stepped floor looks like it was designed to be a massive trip hazard, and with many sharp corners for when the crew inevitably get knocked down. There are also guard-rails in front of the Captains and First Officer chairs that do literally nothing, as well as the console between them that seems to have been deliberately placed facing in the most inconvenient direction for both, and just out of reach of either. You've also got a massive map of the ship directly behind the Captain... so perfectly viewable when she's on screen. Finally, the whole thing is literally twice the size of what it needs to be, with so much wasted space it's bizarre!
Very well thought out flaws you’ve brought up. I like the bridge but you are right. Especially about the captains consoles and the blueprint of voyager right behind her 😂
It was good design for television, but probably wouldn't be that practical. Stations are too far away from each other, they would need to shout, lots of unused space throughout that had to be shouted across. In one episode, Tuvok and Kim were conversing using communicators and nobody else knew. And those steps! Come in from the turbolift, you would have to turn right, climb down the three steps in front of the tactical station, reverse course, and one step back up again to get to the command level. Very awkward, when it could have been two steps down, straight ahead. Many times, in a hurry, Janeway would hang tight to the railing post and fling herself around this obstacle course. In fact, the whole bridge seemed to be a giant tripping hazard - no wonder the first XO got killed so quickly.
I have only ever watched 1 episode of Voyager as I am very late to Star Trek (my first was Discovery) but they were fighting Space Nazi's and I just kinda checked out halfway though.
Like most of the star trek shows, it takes a couple of seasons to find its footing. There are some really good episodes in the first 3 seasons, it really gets good when Seven gets there in season 4.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios haha, I didn't want to give a excuse for me being here, but for me not knowing what a head is :D I thought of "bridge head" like of the military situation and that couldn't have been right. But thanks :)
Nothing to apologise for. Even most English speakers don't know what the 'head' is. I had no idea what one was until I started working on boats! But, TriAngulum is right, it's a naval term for the toilet. Toilets in the olden days were at the front of the ship (also known as the head). People would do their business at the front of the ship so that the sea would wash any "stains" from the boat.
I don’t recall ever seeing that head shown or referred to. Wash basins and sonic showers were shown several times, however no one ever addressed a toilet.
I don't like that single helmsmen on a railed seat design. Cause now those exploding rocks just have to kill a single person in order for you to lose complete helms control.
I've never liked Star Trek's bridge layouts. From a tactical point of view, as well as efficiency, Mass Effect's Normandy bridge, or CIC, was much better. All the supporting staff, except for the pilot at the front of the ship, and some other stations, were facing the Captain. In Star Trek, Starfleet bridges had the Captain facing forward, away from many stations, so that often the Captain, or the officer, had to turn to communicate, and look away from their panels. There were no headsets, or quick coms, unless the officer was not on the bridge, as was often the case with the Chief Engineer. Starfleet bridges were made for the viewers to see, not for the people to use, so I will always have issue with them.
I guess it's due to it's shape and no neck. I at first thought this ship was smaller than the original Constitution class. But this was only my first impression upon seeing it. Not yet having any facts about it's size.

Especially about the captains consoles and the blueprint of voyager right behind her 😂
Where did you get the 3d model of the ship? I really want to view it myself 😩
Hello pretty! Where did those beuytifull blue prints in the tenth minute come from?
USS Sally Ride brought me here.
Cool vid. 🙂👍
Was this filmed using STV:EF:RPG-X?
Is it me, or does the conference room table resemble the Cardasian Emblem?
LOL It's just you :P
CONSOLETRUTH2 more the bajoran logo
How do you get those cinematic shots in STO
Damn those seats look uncomfortable
50 polygons saved on the conference table
I have only ever watched 1 episode of Voyager as I am very late to Star Trek (my first was Discovery) but they were fighting Space Nazi's and I just kinda checked out halfway though.
I love to fight Space Nazi's I thought EVERYONE did :P
Like most of the star trek shows, it takes a couple of seasons to find its footing. There are some really good episodes in the first 3 seasons, it really gets good when Seven gets there in season 4.
10:07 sorry, english isn't my first language. What is a bridge "head" in this context?
Thats ok, you are more then welcome here :) Bridges Head is the military term for the Bridges Bathroom ;) :P

haha, I didn't want to give a excuse for me being here, but for me not knowing what a head is :D
I thought of "bridge head" like of the military situation and that couldn't have been right.
@@LocutusThat's a row of cannons nobody wants to see
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios "head" is a nautical term. Prominently, in the US Army, "Latrine" serves the same purpose.
Fuck Yeah ! Amazing Vidéos 🍷💪🏻
What the guy below said ?
I don’t recall ever seeing that head shown or referred to. Wash basins and sonic showers were shown several times, however no one ever addressed a toilet.
True, but it was LABELLED on set ;)
Most people don't send them in the mail!
I don't like that single helmsmen on a railed seat design. Cause now those exploding rocks just have to kill a single person in order for you to lose complete helms control.

another great informative video
Voyager's bridge is my favourite, nice 3D render of it, what's the source?
Now please do one covering all the modifications that Coyager did in Star Trek Voyager..
No worries, it's on the to do list actually :P
