Greg Howe is incredible. I have never seen anybody so capable of mixing fusion, rock and jazz the way he does. He has been on the scene for long, and still really does have something to say. His last record - Sound Proof - is really really good.
There's not another guitarist on this planet that can match the body of work Greg has produced....his rock days had some of the most mind-boggling solos ever recorded....his neo-classical playing was so refreshing compared to what was going on at the time...his fusion playing?....unmatcheable.
Love it love it love it! Thanks for posting this! Italians love their fusion, and Greg is such an awesome musician and great guy that he even learned how to say "Buona sera!", which in Italian means "Good Evening!".
I'm glad I found this guy. What a phenomenal talent. You would think he would do something with Jeff Beck but then again you wouldn't, 'cause Jeff would get smoked. It's shame there's not a bigger audience for Fusion.
***** That's true, and in terms of a mainstream guitar gig, it doesn't get much bigger than playing for Michael Jackson. He's really more "underknown" than underrated.
Greg Vinson mo he's definitely underrated. He's not being given Guitar Player magazine covers or features. He's essentially being overlooked as a solo artist despite having high profile gigs as music director for major pop stars. This guy's music and performances are so killer, he should be a bigger name that Satriani and Bonamassa. I think the big issue is his music is very dense and complex. Also I doubt he really cares that much. He's getting rich off his day job so this is just fun for him. Doing his solo stuff for a living wouldn't pay a fraction enough to sustain his current lifestyle even if he toured 365 days a year compared to a 25-30 date tour with Gaga or Timberlake where he prolly makes at least over half a mil or more. Besides, the word of mouth he gets from fans us doing more promotion and less aggravation for him than schlepping through poorly-attended fusion tours
You're right, music isn't a contest. The musicians play for the enjoyment and a salary, if you get a contract that's great. No american Idol judgement.
Not an over-reaction at all....just the simple truth is all- IMHO....his first two fusion albums "Introspection" and "Parallax" have never been matched by another guitarist in their display of blues, rock, jazz....his note choices are legendary.
+Dennis Struijcken To be fair, most electric guitars of similar materials are basically the same, it is the electronics and hands that make the most difference, could have been the amp settings he was using then as well ;)
+Bill Compeau similar materials indeed! great guitars are distinguishable from less good ones though. The suhr - guitar I have sounds waaaayyy better on the same setup than the hagstroms I had.
he is one of the best, i like his style so much and so much creative solos. you are a bit overacting though there are others that are have equal creativity and technique, or more
Sounds amazing but the engineer should be fired. Mix totally out of whack. He had to tell the guy twice to turn up the guitar, and the drums were too loud for the keys and bass. Still he sounds astonishing.
in my opinion, his fusion playing is very well matched and surpassed by frank gambale for example. also talking about mind-boggling solos? better try holdsworth and shawn lane. greg howe himself said that he heard a demo tape of shawn lane and he could not understand one think he was doing.so, yea, greg howe is one of the most important players but, as i said before no need to overreact so much.

my favorite guitarist > your favorite guitarist

Superb on every level. I always seem to have a strange take tho on why do so many guitarists stand in front of the drummer. Odd?

Greg Howe es de este planeta? jaja

Check out his new carvin! Amazing sound again. Laguna sounded a bit too thin for my taste.

+Bill Compeau pure ignorance, just my opinion.

he is one of the best, i like his style so much and so much creative solos. you are a bit overacting though there are others that are have equal creativity and technique, or more
diasspeed No. No one can touch this level of creativity. Except of Pat Metheny!
@68shamoa ... non per niente si chiama "fusion" il genere che suonano ... (un jazz - rock - progressive) !
Acho que os músicos que o acompanharam não estavam a altura Greg Howe.
Crosstown...
one BMF
Oh is this a nitpicking contest? I heard those go good with red whine and a doctorial thesis. GREG HOWE
Sounds amazing but the engineer should be fired. Mix totally out of whack. He had to tell the guy twice to turn up the guitar, and the drums were too loud for the keys and bass. Still he sounds astonishing.
Could live without that beginner kid learning guitar audio in the first 30 seconds
Don't like his Laguna guitars...he always sounded best with the ESPs.

this song is great but his guitar sound is awful here.. wtf howe?!
C'est bien mais au bout d'un moment,ça casse les couilles.
ça vaut pas raymond le chat
Exactement.
Great musicians but this is boring as hell. :(
