When the title was 'I have too much stuff' and then said 'I have to clean out the wardrobe' and then the subsequent half filled wardrobe, I then had to look at my overstuffed wardrobe/ chest of drawers/second chest of drawers that recently had been 'cleared out' and then realised I may need a rethink on my own items.
I was thinking the entire time: "why is he cleaning out the wardrobe? there is hardly anything in it!" I'm with you, looking at my much bigger wardrobe, second wardrobe, chest of drawers, whilst thinking of my spare wardrobe in another room. And then the stuff for shoes...Send help!
I'm just like this. I like minimalism, but I also like stuff, and it's hard to get rid of that stuff. Not physically, just emotionally. I'm basically a hoarder and I want to stop. Help.
i've been there and totally feel you. i once kept an old faucet for quite a few years because i didn't want it to feel unloved (mind you i was a child back then, thankfully). what helped me was just taking baby steps and not beating myself up for not being 100% minimalist. also watching all the minimalism videos youtube has to offer ^^
Your guys friendship is a beautiful thing, I loved the ending. Also, you're really killing this VEDA thing. I noticed in the last couple uploads how much your confidence on camera has shifted and how as a result you're presenting so much better - I've been enjoying your evolution thoroughly
I have watched this video three times already to really catch everything you said since there were so many insightful things. Also, Dan leaning against a wall while talking is my new aesthetic.
my life was really cluttered a few months ago but once i moved i had to get rid of loads of stuff. it feels great to not have that huge weight of things pulling me down except at the same time i occasionally miss my huge piles of books and my stuffed closet.
As someone who wholeheartedly embraces the regular purge of items I own, and finds it very cathartic, let me just say: reading The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up was actual agony. You get the point by reading a summary of the book, which is at least twice as long as it needs to be.
But on a serious note, investing in furniture when you can is a really great way to start feeling like you're no longer living like a student. Even just a nice set of shelves from IKEA that will fit all of your books in one place will make you feel more like an adult human. That's my hot tip.
THIS IS ME though like I know that I rely too much on *things* for nostalgia and "oh but I like it" but I also just have too much stuff and want a much more minimalist life. So yeah I get this video way too much
That ending. I just want to mention that your vlogs have made me feel nostalgic for the content I use to watch back in 2012. I had forgotten how much I actually like all these.
Actually, the main message from The life-change magic of tidying up is to go through each item you own and feel if that brings you joy... and then say thank you to it :)
love this style "let's chat while I do stuff" it's the way I watch these. like a few times I've been watching baking with Layton while cooking and I just love it lol going to be sad when VEDA ends
Dan, this month has been horrible for me but knowing I've got a video of yours to look forward to every day has genuinely provided a little bit of light. Cheers, you good egg.
I'm currently at uni, so every time I go home for the holidays I become acutely aware of how much Stuff I have that I've not missed/wanted/needed at any point in the last three months since I last saw it. Once I graduate this year, I fully intend to have a BRUTAL clear out!
I needed that Jack bit at the end; it made me laugh at a time when I'm feeling rather unnecessarily anxious. So thank you, Dan, & thank you, Jack. You guys made me laugh out loud at a time when I needed it.
I have a lot of stuff but I do go through everything fairly regularly so the majority of it tends to be things that "bring me joy". I definitely believe in the idea of tidy home tidy mind or whatever because I cannot live in any kind of mess
I painfully relate to the fact of loving minimalism and wanting that kind of life style and living space but LOVING stuff and being sentimental and clinging onto it so this was a very nice experience to see I wasn't the only one. You need to honestly make another video of decluttering of some sort as it's strangely therapeutic and motivational
i genuinely feel this on a spiritual level. i moved into this (rented and shared) house with two bags of clothes and one box of kitchen stuff. i now have bought TEN bookcases for all my books and a giant shelving unit for the kitchen for all the doodads i buy because i love baking and cooking. also, jealous of your invigilation experience, i was an invigilator in giant exam halls for my university, so we'd to walk around continously, wore a stepometer thing and i did over 15k in the hall alone every day. (you'd think I'd have lost weight but NO-anyways) we had to wear hi-vis vests while working in the hall- such an attractive look...
In which Dan discusses things I've literally spent the past week obsessing about. I'm someone who likes to fix things, or find solutions, but I've become very aware that not every problem has a quick fix solution, and I'm trying to figure out what to do to move on from that? Nice to hear someone else put that into words. Also that ending was hilarious.
Oh god this is me. I have so much stuff, and in a way I like it, but I also really don't because there's always clutter. I also laughed out loud at the ending haha.
Honestly Daniel, you've grown to be one of my favorites on youtube. The timing is always good, the topics are real and presented in a casual and fun to watch way. Good on you for keeping up with VEDA it has done wonders for you I can already tell. Side note: totally get what you mean about the mentality of living like a student. However, decluttering videos are some of the most relaxing things to watch and will get you motivated to do your own purging. :)
Choosing what to keep rather than what to get rid of is much easier (for me at least). Take out your favourite and most used items of clothing and think about what you need out of what's left. I usually ask myself "Would i miss this?" If im not sure I might put it out of sight and come back to it in a while and if I haven't thought about it at all I donate it.
I feel the same way as you about stuff; I looove minimalism and cleanliness but I'm also a compulsive hoarder. However I do move about a lot which pretty much forces me to limit my worldly belongings to about three suitcases' worth.
Hi Dan! You have always been one of my favorite TH-camrs and I am so happy you are doing VEDA! I never miss a video of yours and they honestly brighten my day. Thank You! :)
The way I think of it, is when you're sharing a house, it's always going to seem like you have a lot of stuff. Because everything has to fit in one room. You're basically trying to fit a whole house worth of things into your bedroom. Whereas when you own a home your stuff can go anywhere, your pictures can go up on a landing, your bookshelf can go in a living room or spare room etc. rather than all crammed into a bedroom!
Also, considering how fucking brilliant this VEDA has been, I'm now afraid of the withdrawal symptoms I'll have after April ends. Must make a MEDA, Daniel!!
I really need to get rid of a lot of stuff, but it's soooo hard. I'm too attached to things and it's not cool, but I'm trying to change that. also, Jack at the ending, omg, hahaha
I relate to this SO much! I like owning things but I have so much of everything that it's started to make me unhappy recently. But letting go is so hard for me. And it would so long to go through all the stuff. And time is the one thing I don't have enough of.
gosh youre hilarious. sometimes veda makes me realise i dont always love the videos people make but yours? you may now (after april) be one of my favourite youtubers.
I just got back to uni after being home for Easter and I've been incredibly lazy over the past 24 hrs and just dumped my stuff all over my room and its stressing me out a little. I'm probably still not going to tidy it though because I'm back a week early so there's no one around to judge me
I love having things. Recently got rid of clothes I haven't worn in over 5 years. It was really horrible. Some of the things were such staples for so long. They felt like pieces of a costume that Young Jake used to wear. But I realised I had pictures of those times and keeping the clothes really was pretty pointless. Other 'sentimental' things though? Can't even bring myself to start looking through them.
the thing with me isn't that I necessary like stuff, I just feel the need to keep it because I worry I might need it in the future (even though I NEVER do)
this video has put how I've felt for the majority of my life in to a 4 minute 42 second video I love the idea of clean and minimalist and I'm happier when everything is clean and tidy but I have too much stuff that I'm too afraid to get rid of and that makes it near impossible to have the clean tidy living space I want that being said this video has motivated me and tomorrow im clearing out my room today and I've recruited my nan to be brutal and tell me I don't need/use stuff fucking hell here goes nothing wish me luck
I've heard somewhere that if you want to get rid of clothes you don't wear, you should first hang all the hangers one way and then if you wear that item of clothing, hang it back the other way. Then check like once a year which hangers remained hanging the original way, and get rid of the unworn clothes.
dan does chores and talks about the human condition: a youtube series
Kate Hickey // I need this
Kate Hickey aka Dan & Chill.
This is excelleeeenntttttttt
That's really funny, I'm stealing that.
I am fucking honored. :)
imagine being so good friends with someone that you'd let them drag you out of their room to make strangers on the internet laugh
well I'd never thought about it like that.
Well now that you say it....it sounds even more hilarious 😂
TH-cam:Dan has a new video
Me:Life can wait
I'm undone. The end is so funny, like the silly kind of funny that you get when you make an in-joke with a friend. It's a good type of funny.
I belly laughed for like 30 seconds, Dan is too good at ending videos
My god that jack joke at the end was the best joke I have ever heard!
Love your profile pic👌What a cinnamon roll
Why do I relate to everything daniel says
Emma Collins Ikr
Emma Collins same
When the title was 'I have too much stuff' and then said 'I have to clean out the wardrobe' and then the subsequent half filled wardrobe, I then had to look at my overstuffed wardrobe/ chest of drawers/second chest of drawers that recently had been 'cleared out' and then realised I may need a rethink on my own items.

How long did Jack spend in the ground for that joke?
Not long ENOUGH.
Dan you are so funny VEDA has been brilliant - well done!
I love how short these videos are and they all have a point, of sorts.
I also like clean lines and minimalism in theory, but I hate getting rid of things
I'm just like this. I like minimalism, but I also like stuff, and it's hard to get rid of that stuff. Not physically, just emotionally. I'm basically a hoarder and I want to stop. Help.
Btw that ending was hilarious 😂
i've been there and totally feel you. i once kept an old faucet for quite a few years because i didn't want it to feel unloved (mind you i was a child back then, thankfully).
what helped me was just taking baby steps and not beating myself up for not being 100% minimalist. also watching all the minimalism videos youtube has to offer ^^
anna nass thnx😊
I really like the more casual sort of video it really feels like you're opening up to your viewers 😋
That ending though.
You could literally do a series called "Chores with Layton" And it would be quality content.
I appreciated the ending a lot.
I just replayed the "hihi" bit at he beginning about twelve times bc adorable
I like these videos cause I really need to clean my room and this makes me feel less guilty for not paying 100% visual attention
You're really killing it in this whole VEDA thing man also the endings of all your videos are SICK so keep it up yeah
Your guys friendship is a beautiful thing, I loved the ending.
Also, you're really killing this VEDA thing. I noticed in the last couple uploads how much your confidence on camera has shifted and how as a result you're presenting so much better - I've been enjoying your evolution thoroughly
Nevermind my room can wait to be tidied you said "I love stuff"
(it's tenuous I know shut up I'm procrastinating)
I have watched this video three times already to really catch everything you said since there were so many insightful things. Also, Dan leaning against a wall while talking is my new aesthetic.
I died at the end
my life was really cluttered a few months ago but once i moved i had to get rid of loads of stuff. it feels great to not have that huge weight of things pulling me down except at the same time i occasionally miss my huge piles of books and my stuffed closet.
Says "crack on" without realizing his new moto is "be a good egg"
I'm going to be an exam invigilator this year! And I'm also a hoarder so please may we not sort our issues and just have a family of hoarders
This month was pretty hard and these daily videos have really lifted my spirits at the end of every day, thank youuu
I'm very glad to have helped a bit =)
As someone who wholeheartedly embraces the regular purge of items I own, and finds it very cathartic, let me just say: reading The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up was actual agony. You get the point by reading a summary of the book, which is at least twice as long as it needs to be.

I love how brutal you are at the end to Jack xD
THIS IS ME though like I know that I rely too much on *things* for nostalgia and "oh but I like it" but I also just have too much stuff and want a much more minimalist life. So yeah I get this video way too much
Mate me too. I want to live in a tiny house with nothing around me but my room is so messy with so many THINGS i just cant
I'm not even kidding, Dan is my spirit animal.I do this once every three months or so and I always end up getting more stuff.
That ending. I just want to mention that your vlogs have made me feel nostalgic for the content I use to watch back in 2012. I had forgotten how much I actually like all these.
I relate to the sleeping better when your room is clean so much
Actually, the main message from The life-change magic of tidying up is to go through each item you own and feel if that brings you joy... and then say thank you to it :)
I am cackling at that end. I love chucking out stuff, I want everything I own to be something I can look at and go yes I love that thing.
you say you have too much stuff and i see *all* the stuff you have and raise you by 10.
and im 16 and ive been hoarding since i was able to buy things.
I just love all the things you have to say. I too like the minimalistic look, but also own too much STUFF.
I'm planning to get rid of all my stuff after exams. I hope I do as well as you. Stuff is just so nice!!
man I'm gonna miss VEDA when its over
I'm loving veda!
Was literally about to comment about how I enjoyed Jack's little appearance in this video and then that ending happened... brilliant
Honestly I cackled at the end. I'm so gonna miss you doing VEDA because your videos have made me smile every day this month!
The excitment when he mentions 'Lincoln' where i'm watching from!
love this style "let's chat while I do stuff" it's the way I watch these. like a few times I've been watching baking with Layton while cooking and I just love it lol going to be sad when VEDA ends

The University of Lincoln hoodie in the bottom of the wardrobe - Lincoln alumni ♡
At the end of literally every single one of these veda videos I find myself just saying "Brilliant"
i replayed you saying 'smart trousers' at 3:41 about 12 times and am still in stitches
"I don't need this anymore, I've got the subscribers now" Brilliant hahaha
that end made me actually honk a laugh into the dark abyss of my otherwise silent room... nicely done
"I don't need this anymore, I've got the subscribers now." I mean VEDA just gets better and better by the day!! 😂😂😂
every piece has it's own story
actually prompted me to tidy my room (very late at night, probably annoying my flatmates but i digress), so thank you
That ending though. You made me snicker. I don't get to snicker often so thank you.
I needed that Jack bit at the end; it made me laugh at a time when I'm feeling rather unnecessarily anxious. So thank you, Dan, & thank you, Jack. You guys made me laugh out loud at a time when I needed it.

I just bloody love these new videos. So good.
the ENDING omg
(can i just say I am loving your VEDA series it's so nice to see you everyday!)
i genuinely feel this on a spiritual level. i moved into this (rented and shared) house with two bags of clothes and one box of kitchen stuff.

it's like veda has brought the best out of you and I love it
You are a very underappreciated human, Daniel
the jack bit? FUCKING BRILLIANT MATE!
"I do worry sometimes that I'm like so desperate for resolution that I'm forgetting to live"
I feel attacked.
Probably one of my favourite VEDAs, I love just hearing your opinions and stories
In which Dan discusses things I've literally spent the past week obsessing about. I'm someone who likes to fix things, or find solutions, but I've become very aware that not every problem has a quick fix solution, and I'm trying to figure out what to do to move on from that? Lincoln represent! Also, I have too much stuff and now I just want to have a clear out and clean and tidy all of my stuff. Maybe tomorrow...
Oh god this is me. I have so much stuff, and in a way I like it, but I also really don't because there's always clutter.
I also laughed out loud at the ending haha.
I like stuff too but too much from too many years. Help me. It all must go!
i'm really digging these daily chats. stuff like this makes me reflect on my own life and views and i like it, it makes me think more.
Somehow we all get attached to inanimate objects. I'm loving this series - thought provoking and funny at the same time. Keep it up!
Honestly Daniel, you've grown to be one of my favorites on youtube. The timing is always good, the topics are real and presented in a casual and fun to watch way. loved this! super relatable for people slowly becoming adults and trying to figure life out
Hi Dan! You have always been one of my favorite TH-camrs and I am so happy you are doing VEDA! I never miss a video of yours and they honestly brighten my day. Thank You! :)

Can I just say you have the most calming videos! I have had bad panic attacks all day and watching your videos is just so calming xx
That ending was fucking class. Pure excellence
this resonated with me more than i thought it would
thanks
was literally folding laundry as i watched this, then had to stop and consider why i own so many clothes when i just wear the same 12 things
I am LOVING your veda Dan. Every video is interesting and I've wanted to watch it - each one has been a priority in my sub box. Thanks :)
Thank YOU for watching!
Loved this so much! Made me think about stuff and reflect, but also couldn't stop laughing
I really felt like I was sitting on the floor of Dan's room and just listening while he cleans out his closet. also, I love throwing things out
I knew youd mention that book! Its nice to see you organise and be productive
gosh youre hilarious. sometimes veda makes me realise i dont always love the videos people make but yours? you may now (after april) be one of my favourite youtubers.
I just got back to uni after being home for Easter and I've been incredibly lazy over the past 24 hrs and just dumped my stuff all over my room and its stressing me out a little. I'm probably still not going to tidy it though because I'm back a week early so there's no one around to judge me
I literally just spent about 20 minutes chucking out clothes and reorganising my drawers/wardrobe before watching this XD
I love having things. Recently got rid of clothes I haven't worn in over 5 years. It was really horrible. Some of the things were such staples for so long.
