  • A Side of Jamaica The Media Won't Show You is a video of me exploring Montego Bay, Jamaica, for the first time. I explore the unseen parts while connecting with the locals, trying out the food, and immersing myself in the Vibrant culture. Jamaica has a vibe, and this video captures my experience visiting one of the most popular travel destinations worldwide. If you loved the video, please like, watch, and subscribe. Thank you.

Tayo, I am from Montego Bay. I'm very sorry to see that you were ripped off. Jamaica is not that expensive at all, if you are paying the real price. Did you ever consult with anyone local? Don't pay them in US dollars! Definitely get a local guide. I am so shocked to hear your meals were $30 to $40 and you spent $200 to go across the island. Your meals aren't more than maybe $7 unless you are eating in an expensive restaurant. There are many local places that are much cheaper. Also, you could have taken Knutsford Express bus across the island for $20 from Kingston to Montego Bay and it is a luxurious ride.

I love Jamaican food and people, last year was my first time in Montego Bay. We stayed in an airbnb, very reasonable price. Toked the best bud ever. The best jerk chicken. Had sugar cane juice from a roadside vendor. Yummy. Went to the marketplace for groceries and it felt like I was in West Africa again. Swam in the sea. Drove to Oche Rios. When it came time to get a few things to bring home, wanted to buy from my people...Very hard to do. As I looked over to where the tourist hotels, nightlife, and shopping; I saw we didn't own anything. It wasn't hard for me to see the inequities. I felt the plantation vibe. It made me sad. We must rise! ❤🖤💚

@tayo . Love your video but there are a lot of information that was given to you that's not true. Most of the houses , especially the ones that you are talking about are built by the NHT or developers in Jamaica, not the Chinese. Those homes are usually owned by Jamaicans who choose to rent them out. While it is true that you have to pay for certain beach access, that's not true for everything. two of the nicest beaches in Mobay are public beaches, The Harmony Park and Dead end. Most of the beaches on the South Coast are also free. Also, most people who are telling you the information are making stuff up so you can't believe everything that is told to you.

When you come back make sure you arrange a collab with Colaz Smith. Also in Kingston you can take vber to get around. But in Montego Bay you can take shared taxis for one hundred and fifty Jamaica dollars. You can also take a taxi by yourself for about 3 thousand Jamaican dollars. In Ocho Rios it will cost you from 15 hundred to 2 thousand Jamaican dollars.
You can buy food at the best restaurants for 1000 Jamaican dollars every where on the island. That is equivalent to 6 US dollars.

Harmony Park beach in Montego Bay is a fairly new, beautiful and free beach, as are most beaches all around the island. Some public beaches sometimes make a small charge which goes towards the maintenance and cleaning of the beach which would otherwise be as mess. Establishments such as Doctors Cave run businesses and so make a charge for their facility. All visitors also have to pay for the facilities provided but some local people always want something for nothing and complain when they don’t get it! Beaches in Jamaica are all over the island and aren’t just concentrated in tourist areas with hotels, and they’re all free, so that’s why it’s not logical to make such a statement. It’s best to get facts before repeating what some disgruntled people say.

He did not make any overall conclusions on his visit. He only highlighted that the beaches he went to required a fee even for locals. On the face of it, locals shouldn’t be allowed to pay, it is their hometown. The only sane argument regarding this that I saw in the comments was that, it helps for maintenance, which makes more sense. And no, he wasn’t complaining, he was stating the obvious! Keeping money in the bank is like paying banks and the Government. Here's how it works: The bank gives out your money as loan, and charge interest obviously higher than inflation rate, and then give you, the depositor, interest lower than inflation rate. That means net loss for you. That is why I prefer to invest, and on average, my advisor makes returns that always beats inflation!

I read somewhere that most Jamaican builders don’t build houses for the working class because it’s not profitable for their businesses and business models. This was likely the Jamaican government’s solution to that problem… to outsource the work to the Chinese. There is also a shortage of skilled construction labour in Jamaica.
