In monarchy the rightful heir is debatable in such circumstances. The long established precedent is that the first born son inherits, as most lords of the 7 kingdoms would agree. They would all without fail name their sons over their daughters as heirs.
According to estsblished law Aegon is not a usurper. And does what the dead king demands automatically translate as law? Throughout history many dead King's wishes have not been followed through on.
I'm a feminist and a left wing socialist and I have no love of Aegon(though I think he had the been raised to take his duty seriously and his mother and grandfather treated him with contempt to the point how did they expect him to do better?).
At the end of the day why should any of us 21st century people think absolute monarchy is something to support anyway?
As likable as Rhaenyra is(at some points. No one seems to remember she gave zero shits about the poor servant guy who was killed in place of Laenor which she 100% knew about) but she isn't going to some feminist liberator for all the women in Westeros unless she wants to dismantle a system that also reduces her own absolute authority.
Most lords who support Rhaenyra are making an accession for her. Not a single lord changes their succession laws even in spite of supporting her in the book. The show is going further but at the end of the day the concept of "usurper" is debatable. Some thought Robery usurper, and Viserys, Daenerys' brother the rightful king? Who is actually right?.
