Watching this in 2020 after an R rated “Joker” makes a record $1 billion and is nominated for 11 oscars...😂😂 I hope Korey and the double toasted crew revisit this😉
To be fair, the DCEU had been executed so poorly up until this point that there was no expectation the joker movie would have been anything but a trainwreck. But yeah, this is a pretty funny video in hindsight.
You got that right... I really rooted for this movie because everyone was just thrashing on it before the trailers came out..and then cautious curiosity...and then minds blown for better or for worse😀
2 years after this vid posted. Joker. Released to critical acclaim and awardworthy buzz. Highest grossing rated-R film ever. Looks like we did need this.
One: That was the first Batman movie so people let it slide, and Two: If you go back to that movie ask yourself, is Jack Nicholson that scary? It's a good performance, sure, but not terrifying in the same way Heath Ledger's is.
We don't need a backstory, Nolan emphasized on this thought when Commissioner Gordon stated, "No matches on prints, DNA, dental, clothing is custom, no labels, nothing in his pockets but knives and lint, no name, no other alias." That is what makes a character, the mystery. And that's why Ledgers joker is so memorable.
I'm not too familiar with the comics, but isn't part of Joker's character the fact that nobody knows who the fuck he is or where he came from because he lies about his background? Seems really weird to get rid of that.
Yeah, why take away the mystery it's the same with Catwoman we have no idea about who she is they had a lot of incarnations about about her but we don't which is the real Selena Kyle. Leave Joker as he is a mystery any true Joker fan doesn't want to know who he is people want to keep guessing.
TheMusic4Soul "Something like that happened to _me,_ you know. I ... I'm not exactly _sure_ what it was. Even that origin story is suspect, so "don't repeat the bullshit from internet."
Absolutely PERFECT quote used! The origin from the Killing Joke is the most well regarded origin but part of the reasoning is that it was still not definitive! The Joker's origin is meant to be mysterious. Even in The Dark Knight, Heath's Joker (love it) said 2 different origins and none were definitive. The Killing Joke origin is not necessarily true and that is what makes it so great! Really weird choice to make a film around - The most mysterious, crazy, scary character of all time (arguably) is getting a definitive origin for this film. Really well said ^^
I hate to say it - and I'll always be a diehard DC fan - but the folks at WB and the "jokers" who are in charge of the DCEU are really not even trying anymore. 18:15 I think that would be a good idea for them to just start over. I would also say that before they make a movie about a particular hero, or villain, make sure they get that hero or villain right. I think that one problem is that people are not capturing the essence and goals of the many heroes and villains that people know and like. People are changing things around to where some people don't even recognize the characters they are so much a fan of or at least think are cool. For example, Doomsday. Doomsday was created by an alien scientist with shaky morals to be the ultimate lifeform. In Batman V Superman, Doomsday was created by Lex Luther and looked like an evil Mutant Ninja Turtle.
They're really going to confuse people with this bullshit. And now the Batman movie is probably not a part of the DCEU, what the fuck is even going on?

It's disturbing, but interesting to see how he goes about his business, re-establishing his criminal throne almost, and how he interacts with Harley and the Rogues. Batman doesn't play a factor til the end. I think THAT would be a great crime/character piece... not an origin story
alwaysxnever It is kinda weird that it wouldn't be prt of the DCEU.... but at the same time, it's like.... Okay. It's clear DC is just trying to play catch up to Marvel. As a DC fan, I can see that, and I get it. Maybe (and this is just speculation on my part), there's a mentality of just trying to differentiate themselves some more. We're coming up on the 10-year anniversary of the DC DTV Animated Film Series.... Until relatively recently, none of those movies share the same continuity; each movie is self-contained. Maybe DC is realizing that forcing a continuity this quickly isn't the way to go.... and that just making a solid, well-told story is. Would it confuse the audience at this point? Probably. But maybe they're just going fuck it, at this point haha. If they went this path with the "Joker" book, I'd be fine with it. Fuck it.
Crazy looking back at this now. All of it at the time sounds like such a terrible idea. But it ended up being such an amazing success not only as a DC film but as an amazing film in general. Seriously one of my favorite movies of all time.
It's so bizarre to hear Wonder Woman universally, unquestioningly praised so often when you and everyone you know thought it was awful. Just a strange, double-take moment of bubbles intersecting.
The only reason people/fans "responded" to Harley is because she's half naked for the males, and it gives the females some new cosplay outfit to try on...
They should make the The Red Hood story his origins but still leave it as a mystery. They can mix in other joker origins stories such as the Killing Joke. They can make it an investigation movie where the closet Batman gets the more deadly the Joker becomes so he ends up killing robin and let that be the first half or mix in flashbacks of his previous investigations and time with Robin so when the reveal happens it's a little bit of a shocker for those who are unaware. I think that's the best way to do it. Hit 2 birds with one stone. You get a good joker origin and you get the Red Hood. But of course still leave his true origins a mystery.
There's actually a lot of stories that could work for a Joker solo film. I think the best one would probably be "The Jokers Five-Way Revenge" storyline. He comes back to Gotham and starts taking out revenge on his old gang members. He racks up a pretty good body count, and he's killing them in all kind of different ways. He blows one of their faces off with a cigar that's loaded with nitro-glycerin. It would be awesome seeing his kill count on the big screen from that story.
"He lost a lot of bets." Lol. That would be an amazing story-line: an impulsive, pathological gambler, who also has the worst luck in the world, goes insane and becomes a supervillain. :D
Warner brothers gives us a Standalone Joker movie that I and many others personally don't want. Disney gives us a Standalone Obi Wan Kenobi movie that I and many others personally really want. This is why I and many others trust Disney more than Warner Bros. I'm still waiting for Justice League though🤞🏾
Only way I could see a standalone Joker movie work is to make it an anthology. Each story is a different possible origin story. One where he's a regular guy who snaps, one where he's the already evil gangster who finds a new outlet for his evil, one where he's this slenderman -esqe evil entity that goes around causing chaos. Something along those lines.
13:00 - I can guarantee you guys DC movies are not really mimicking the comics. They use panels and plot lines from the comics but in a very lose and disconnected way.
Joker is the shape from Halloween, if you take away the mystery then it doesn't leave an impact on the audience. Rob zombie took Michaels shape complex from Halloween in the tamale and well....we got skull fucked by it.
After The Dark Knight, they really need to leave The Joker alone, at least until they figure out how to reinvent his character And WHY is Harley Quinn getting her own movie? She's a fun character, but what could a Harley Quinn movie possibly be about?
Im just gonna buckle up and grab some popcorn. The longer this shitshow continues the more enjoyable it becomes to watch fanboys lose their fucking minds. That shit right there is more enjoyable than anything currently in the DCEU or even Marvel
Fanboys are the reason why we keep getting mediocre movie after mediocre movie. The studio doesn't care cause they'll get paid regardless. If they make a movie with Batman Superman or Wonder Woman everyone will go watch it based on name recognition alone. Fanboys have to allow themselves to push for better quality from the studios and be more critical.
The only possible way that would work is if it were a better adaptation of The Killing Joke: put more Focus on the Joker, probably give a bit more detail of the origin presented in the original comic, maybe do something a bit different than the Women in the Fridge Trope that even Alan Moore has admitted to be one of his 'finest moments'. It can definitely work, especially since one of the points of the Batman V Superman was Ben Afflack looking at the Robin Suit saying "Ha Ha! the Jokes on You" and the focus of Batman was more of a Dark Knight Returns/Frank Miller Interpretation. But the fact that: a) One of our greatest directors is just producing and not being fully involved b) A comedic director would be working on an action film on potentially a psychologically disturbed character c) How early this is without a lot of talk of it from previous conventions leading up to the idea I'm not holding my breath for a good, let alone complete, product. But, if it does come to pass, such an origin story would definitely be a move away from the cliche of many Superhero films (Especially the Marvel films) where the villain is the weakest aspect of the story.
Some of the more interesting joker "origins" in the comics have been -Joker having a bad day -Joker being the "pale one." -Joker being the god of chaos and just enjoying himself (Ongoing)
Lovecraft said "Man's greatest fear is of the unknown." Keep the Joker unknown. The more you shine light on a monster, the less scary they become. Look at the unneeded origins of Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, and the Alien xenomorphs. All were scarier before being over-explained.
WB: Fans don';t like our DCEU. Patty Jenkins: *sigh* Hold my martini....and my earrings.....and my heels.... Marvel: Oh, wow! Patty actually did it! Bravo! Superb! Amazing! Okay, lets get started on Infinity War! WB: Um.....we only got Justice League! Greenlight another few projects, guys! Patty jenkins: What? You want me back for another WW flick? FUCK YOU, PAY ME! WB: Yes, okay! And we're gonna make deals with Scorcese and others to do multiple Joker films, and Harley Quiin standalone, and we'll get Leto and Robbie back, and then Matt Reeves'll do a different Batman.... Jenkins: Whoa, whoa, whoa! WHAT? Affleck: Wait, WHAT? Matt Reeves: Scrap the script it's crap! Redo the Batman! WB: Okay! Leto: Wait, WHAT? Jenkins: Did you forget to pay Reeves more, too? Reeves: What?! Affleck: Am I or am I NOT BATMAN?! GUYS? COME ON! WB: Um......m-maybe? Affleck, Jenkins, Reeves, Leto, Robbie, Scorcese: WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!?! Fans: Thats what WE wanna know, too! WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!?!? DC/WB: ........... Joss? Joss Whedon: Hey, don't look at me, I gotta divorce to deal with and a solo Batgirl film. Affleck: A what with the WHAT NOW? Marvel: Aaaaaaaand Infinity War 2 has begun filming while you guys are still trying to sort your stuff out. Good luck guys! Marvel fans: Hall H was LIT with that Infinity War trailer! DC fans: .................. Justice Leagues is gonna be fine........JL is gonna be juuuuust fine! WB: Now in negotiations for filming Injustice Gods among Us with 15 parts with cameos by Mr Mxyzptlk and Krypto and Plastic Man in a ballet number. DC fans ....................... okay, fuck this!
I first heard of double toasted form the schmoedown and loved them. Been binge watching their videos the past month. It QUICKLY became apparent they are some serious Marvel fanboys (some more than others). That is the quickest way for me to bounce on a channel.
After watching TDK, I was so impressed with Ledger's Joker. To me, a great Joker embodies Chaos, and Chaos doesn't need an origin movie. But hey, it's WB we're talking about, so yeah...
I'm really surprised that martin didnt mention how technically this movie can work if this movie is set in the 80's with the same actor because there is a current theory that the joker never ages in the comic world.
I'm surprised Martin didn't refer to War Dogs when they were discussing why Todd Phillips was chosen to be on board (again, if this even happens). From what I remember Martin said War Dogs was just Martin Scorcese Lite, which is kinda funny considering the circumstances. Idk, just a thought.
Seems like most people are repeating the same points over again. I don't like the idea of a joker origin story, however, DC is known for their rich elseworld stories (Kingdom Come, Red Son, TDRK, etc). Having interesting filmmakers come in and make Comic Book Movies that aren't blockbuster could lead to some great. Also, when was there rules of setting up a universe? Just because Marvel didn't a certain way doesn't mean that everyone else should follow...
matt reeves just confirmed that the batman is part of the continuity of the movies. he just phrased it wrong, i guess? but there's another talk of a joker/harley movie apart from the joker movie with todd phillips and that's just wtf.
Corey, I think you may not check these youtube vids, but jim carey did do a serious role with what was it called Number 27 or something? And it might be said that he pulled it off
I don't think it's so much a thing where DC's problem plays their movies to the comic fans because Marvel does it too. The problem is that they play their movies at the expense of the general audience, something Marvel doesn't do. They've found that perfect balance between being faithful and presenting their characters to a general audience in an entertaining way.
i'm a comic book reader..and them sucky DCEU movies STILL don't do it for me, man... they're CLUELESS, over there at WB. Wonder Woman is okay and a good start to the right direction. but judging from all these DC movie announcements of late, i think WB is STILL throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks.
DC are playing to their strengths and i appreciate that. They always had a multiverse in the comics and it would seem standalone self contained movies have been giving them a lot of sucess rather than trying to build up a universe with one bad guy to beat at the very end. They will be able to use Directors for their cinematography and insight in unique storytelling rather than having to follow a formula that Kevin Feig has already placed. Personally, I'm pumped.
I agree that they do need to give Superman a movie where we get to see him as himself. They should have done the individual movies first. Fans should have been given a Superman movie where we see him balance life between his two personalities. Not having to share the screen with Batman. Who should have his own movie to explain why he is the way he is. Then they would have had a better S vs. B movie. I loved man of Steel. The level of destruction didn't bother me because that's what happens when supernatural beings fight. Shit ain't about to still be neat and nice afterward.
Matt Reeves Batman trillogy is now going to be set outside of the DCEU too :( - meaning no more planned DCEU Batman solo films :( - Am hoping Double Toasted do another video to discuss this. This just makes it seem like Warner Bros have no faith in the DCEU anymore, and if they don't have faith in their own product, then why should I care about it as a consumer?! Ok just read that Matt Reeves has since retracted his statement - as long as it doesn't become a 'its in the DCEU, but it's ALSO not in the DCEU' kind of BS! As far as I am aware tho this Joker Spin Origin off is still supposed to be Outside of the DCEU - but who knows now - Warner Bros aren't being very clear on WTF their plan is, 'if' they even have one!
I'd like to see a heath version done by a new person that looks similar to heath's joker. then again, I'd like to see a movie where joker and batman's fight aren't divided by anything. Dark Knight, it was awesome seeing Joker having a high pain tolerance. And it was awesome seeing the joker beat down on batman without any fear or care in the world. but it was cut short because of environmental factors.
Kari Puusaari when they were fighting in the rafters after he sicked the dogs on batman and batman was on the ground and joker was just hitting and stomping on him....
Here's an idea for the Joker. Make it that the tattoos and shit are fake. Make it that he basically dresses like a clown flavoured parody of whichever criminals he happens to be working with at any given time. Almost like he is mocking them or something. The next movie you have him in make a point about him working with a totally different group of people with a completely different style and have him dress like that, but still with the clown twist. Sure it's contrived. But at least it would give them an out so they don't have to give us tatts and bling Joker again.
I'm all for "3 Broke Negro's & A White Guy" as a official TV sitcom. XD

The Joker is like a horror movie villain. Giving him a definitive backstory strips all that is scary and mysterious about him.

joker tells jokes and trolls batman. that is what he does.
Yes, Nicholson really was that scary. Back when I was a kid growing up in the '90's, I legit found him intense and frightening.
Big J I agree, I personally don't want to know anything about how The Joker became The Joker; I already ignore The Killing Joke storyline.
Lol Korey ended up giving this “pointless” movie a better than sex
truly shows how just because nobody asked for something, doesn't mean it cant be great!
They should make a video on why a fantastic four reboot will never happen. That way we can finally get a good one.

Funny seeing this years later and how it critically acclaimed movie lol!
Girts's shirt is on point for this topic.
If they do go along with making this (which they probably will), I would love to see Willem DaFoe tackle the joke.
Arkham babies?.....It's already a TV series on Fox.
lmao!
AKA Martian's favorite show....
....Somehow.
"When your padded cell looks kinda weird and you wish that you weren't there....."
God I hate that series.
"Just close your eyes and make believe, and you can be a badguy anywheeeeeere!"
Are you guys going to post your review of Good Time?
"He lost a lot of bets." Lol. That would be an amazing story-line: an impulsive, pathological gambler, who also has the worst luck in the world, goes insane and becomes a supervillain. :D
Warner brothers gives us a Standalone Joker movie that I and many others personally don't want.
Disney gives us a Standalone Obi Wan Kenobi movie that I and many others personally really want.
This is why I and many others trust Disney more than Warner Bros. I'm still waiting for Justice League though🤞🏾

You're welcome.
trellified Thanks😂
Gracias
Only way I could see a standalone Joker movie work is to make it an anthology. Each story is a different possible origin story. One where he's a regular guy who snaps, one where he's the already evil gangster who finds a new outlet for his evil, one where he's this slenderman -esqe evil entity that goes around causing chaos. Something along those lines.
Girts's shirt perfectly sums up my reaction to a Joker standalone movie
13:00 - I can guarantee you guys DC movies are not really mimicking the comics. They use panels and plot lines from the comics but in a very lose and disconnected way.
Joker is the shape from Halloween, if you take away the mystery then it doesn't leave an impact on the audience. Rob zombie took Michaels shape complex from Halloween in the tamale and well....we got skull fucked by it.
After The Dark Knight, they really need to leave The Joker alone, at least until they figure out how to reinvent his character
And WHY is Harley Quinn getting her own movie? She's a fun character, but what could a Harley Quinn movie possibly be about?
I guess now you know lol
Girts' shirt says it all.
"3 Broke Negro's & A White Guy" I was dying! XD
the fucking world needs another superhero movie like it needs another "INSERT USELESS THING HERE"
Glad to know this hasn't aged poorly
GritsnBeans we never would've gotten DEADPOOL if it wasn't for fans demanding quality after Origins.
Theres a difference between fans and fanboys.
But the fact that:
a) One of our greatest directors is just producing and not being fully involved
b) A comedic director would be working on an action film on potentially a psychologically disturbed character
c) How early this is without a lot of talk of it from previous conventions leading up to the idea
I'm not holding my breath for a good, let alone complete, product. But, if it does come to pass, such an origin story would definitely be a move away from the cliche of many Superhero films (Especially the Marvel films) where the villain is the weakest aspect of the story.
Some of the more interesting joker "origins" in the comics have been
-Joker having a bad day
-Joker being the "pale one."
-Joker being the god of chaos and just enjoying himself
(Ongoing)
Lovecraft said "Man's greatest fear is of the unknown." Keep the Joker unknown. The more you shine light on a monster, the less scary they become. Look at the unneeded origins of Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, and the Alien xenomorphs. All were scarier before being over-explained.
Love y’all videos double toasted y’all make me laugh 😂 😂
The thing is, they actually have talent behind the camera, all they need to do is find another Heath Ledger.
Ghastly St. Paul Willem Dafoe perhaps?
Punk n' Metal My only problem with him is he might run into the same problem that Ben Affleck is facing.
Punk n' Metal Interesting choice🤔
Joseph Gordon Levitt looks like him and is a great actor he could fit the role with the proper materials.
Han Yolo only problem is, Gordan Levitt played Robin in Nolan's last batman.
omfg Korey is funny. 8:41 is like straight out of a Hanna Barbera cartoon. That impression had me laughing. too much.
Tim Burton's movie is more of a Joker than a Batman. TOO TRUE!
Damn this is dated rip
I come from the future.
Where can I find Martin's avengers paper?
As long as we get a Joker story without any mention of Harley. I can't stand Harley these days.
I first heard of double toasted form the schmoedown and loved them. Been binge watching their videos the past month. It QUICKLY became apparent they are some serious Marvel fanboys (some more than others). That is the quickest way for me to bounce on a channel.
Disney, please save this franchise
Bit off topic, but no reaction to the 'Boo 2! A Madea Halloween' trailer?
Darktro0per are you serious? theres another?
SouthShallRise sadly yes
Darktro0per Tyler Perry Is just pulling these movies out of his a** now 😑
After watching TDK, I was so impressed with Ledger's Joker.
When is Korey going to learn? Every time he says something isn't going to happen, it happens anyway.
here a year later and it’s actually happening 😂❗️
matt reeves just confirmed that the batman is part of the continuity of the movies. he just phrased it wrong, i guess? but there's another talk of a joker/harley movie apart from the joker movie with todd phillips and that's just wtf.
8:37 I'm done 😂😂😂
You'd think after Wonder Woman, the DCEU would get its shit together
Corey, I think you may not check these youtube vids, but jim carey did do a serious role with what was it called Number 27 or something? And it might be said that he pulled it off
Cyborg looks disgustingly bad.
I don't care about superhero stories at all. But the DC universe drama, that's damned interesting.
Welp these comments aged well...
Isn't it silently agreed upon by most that the Joker has no back story? He's just chaos incarnate, can we just leave it at that please?
If the Joker is 40, he'd only be 10 in 1987. Needs to be 90's set.
i'm a comic book reader..and them sucky DCEU movies STILL don't do it for me, man... they're CLUELESS, over there at WB. Wonder Woman is okay and a good start to the right direction. but judging from all these DC movie announcements of late, i think WB is STILL throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks.
If I'm going to have a past I prefer it to be multiple choice.
@ 8:30 was a real laugh out loud moment! lol
5:45 , well shit, you were wrong Korey
Martin needs to watch The Dark Knight again. The fingerprints on the bullet were never supposed to belong to the Joker but to one of his accomplices.
I wonder how someone such as Jim Carrey or Stephen Colbert would do as Joker.
those two people have absolutely nothing in common
@@TheJacklikesvideos Do they have to have things in common?
DC are playing to their strengths and i appreciate that. They always had a multiverse in the comics and it would seem standalone self contained movies have been giving them a lot of sucess rather than trying to build up a universe with one bad guy to beat at the very end. They will be able to use Directors for their cinematography and insight in unique storytelling rather than having to follow a formula that Kevin Feig has already placed. Personally, I'm pumped.
Hey yall were right about them saueezing a bruce wayne parents getting killed scene. I think they fit in the movie well tho
This is clearly 4D chess, a game of which you're losing.
The DC movie that really has me worried is Flashpoint. There's no way in Hell that movie will work.
Arkham Babies = Gotham (TV Show)
Does anyone know what joker their talking about when they bring up the robin in chains thing?
MIAMI VICE!!! one of the best shows to ever air!!
I'd like to see a heath version done by a new person that looks similar to heath's joker. then again, I'd like to see a movie where joker and batman's fight aren't divided by anything. Dark Knight, it was awesome seeing Joker having a high pain tolerance. And it was awesome seeing the joker beat down on batman without any fear or care in the world. but it was cut short because of environmental factors.
shinra358 are you saying that there were a scene in dark knight where joker beat down Batman? Prove it, please?
Kari Puusaari when they were fighting in the rafters after he sicked the dogs on batman and batman was on the ground and joker was just hitting and stomping on him....
We're making a unified DCEU!!!!
and then we're going to make a Joker standalone with a different actor playing him in a different time period.
Why Double Toasted only wants Marvel Films should be a video you guys do.
Best person to play the Joker would be the guy who currently plays him on Gotham the TV Series that is Heath Ledger type Joker
DT getting a Marvel check? If they where getting that kind of cash, they wouldn't have a patreon account?
