Arnold Vosloo who played The Mummy was actually disappointed with the design of his "mummy" character, he wanted it to look scarier but to reach a wider demographic they didn't make it more nightmarish.

I still really want this universe. Mummy should never have been an action film. It was Mission Impossible with monsters. Cut the budget from $100 M to $40M, take out the FX and make it a HORROR movie. A real horror movie, not an explosion extravaganza.

Penny Dreadful was a better monster shared universe. Heck I would rather have seen a I Frankenstein and Underworld crossover instead of the Dark Universe.
Dracula untold was so underrated and deserved much better.. Luke Evans was perfect for the role, if they ever do revive the dark universe, the studio should consider bringing him back. I think Luke should return as Dracula but maybe as a different version of the character. Kinda like Deadpool.. Ryan Reynolds started as Deadpool in that crappy X-men origins film.. But Fox brought him back as a better and new version of deadpool.. So I figured Universal should bring Luke Evans back as Dracula

Another advice: Don't call it the Dark Universe. It's very generic. Marvel and DC don't have a Superhero Universe. They have universes named after their brands. I'm really confused. When DRACULA UNTOLD bombed, they decided to ignore it and start this universe again. Now the same thing is happening again? If the universe relies that much on the 1st movie's performance, why act like the universe has already started?

Here's my take: *_The Hunchback_* I may start with this since it was technically one of Universal's very first motion pictures, and therefore possibly their first "Monster film". This would basically be a straight-up adaption of the original novel by Victor Hugo, with a little bit of an twist at the end. In a post-credits scene, it's revealed that Quasimodo has somehow remained alive and preserved for over 500 years, as he's uncovered and surrounded by mysterious figures in modern uniform. An ideal actor would be Andy Serkis. *_The Phantom of the Opera_* Much like _The Hunchback_ , this too would be a faithful adaptation of the original novel by Gaston Leorux. At the very end, after he fakes his death, he's confronted by two men in uniform (soon revealed to Prof. Helsing & Dr. Jekyll). For now, I can't think of an ideal actor for Erik, thought someone who's actually French would be suitable. *_Dracula the Impaler_* This would be an improved version of _Dracula Untold_ , with more historical accuracy, especially with the Vlad angle. *_Frankenstein Untold_* This could involve the Monster and the Bride, having been captured and preserved by Prodigium agents in the 1890s/1900s, awakening in modern-day. *_The Mummy_* Less Tom Cruise, of course. Or better yet, I'd have a younger and more suiting actor like Channing Tatum; as an archeologist as opposed to an aging US army sergeant. Sofia remains. *_The Invisible Man_* A modernisation of the original novel by H.G. Wells (set in 1997, a century after the book' original setting), similar to Spielberg's War of the Worlds. *_The Wolf Man_* Basically, think of a better version of the 2010 remake. *_The Black Lagoon_* Prodigium agents travel to the Amazon under the guise of an Eco-expedition "mission", but it turns out they're intending to hunt for the legendary Gill-men. Think of the world-building and suspence of Kong: Skull Island & the Gothic romanticism of The Shape of Water, with a dose of Lovecraft-inspired cosmic horror. *_Tarantula_* Because this universe needs some *giant* monsters, dammit. *_The Deadly Mantis_* Like I said before. ^_^ *_Van Helsing_* This would go into the backstory of Professor Abraham van Helsing & Dr. Henry Jekyll, who would turn out to not only be the founders of Prodigium, but are also immortal. My ideal actor for Helsing would be more on the lines of Peter Cushing or Edward van Sloan, but still captures some of the badarse attitude of Hugh Jackman. And also at least be actually from the Netherlands. *_Gods and Monsters_* This would the ultimate crossover, though think of this as less of _The Avengers_ and more of _Civil War_ and _Suicide Squad_ . Charles Dance as the "Master Vampire (whose identity would be revealed as Caligula) would be the ultimate antagonist. Abraham has to team up with Quasimodo, Vlad, and Talbot (who wish to be cured of their curses) against Caligula, Ahmanet, Erik, the Frankenstein Monster, and Dr. Griffin.

+MAN FUCK YOU Technically..those people from Twilight weren't werewolves. Based on the original work of Twilight..they are suppose to be shape-shifters. They are descended from the ancient spirit warriors of the Quileute tribe. They even had ties to Native American legend like shape-shifters often do. Reason #4 is the reason why the MCU even worked to begin with. With the obvious exception of Avengers and Iron Man 2 (being a sequel), they're all standalone films. Yes, they have little easter eggs hinting at their connection to each other, but very little focus was given to them and they never amounted to anything other than a VERY brief shot or off-hand mention. By and large, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger all function very well as standalone superhero flicks. They're not flawless by any stretch of the imagination, but they were decent enough, and aside from The Incredible Hulk they were all financially successful because of it. You don't have to imitate Marvel to create a successful movie universe, but it is important to study from them and really take a look at why the MCU succeeded and why it continues to succeed.

Honestly, it's not a bad idea on paper. The issue is execution. They need to plan the whole thing out long term from start to finish: timeline, overall tone, casting, direction, number of actual solo movies, etc. These can be an updated series of classic horror films connecting characters who have crossed over before, but the studio can't rush it or they'll just put out something generic that no one wants to see. Oh, and make them HORROR movies not action movies.
I agree with you and right now Universal is trying to think things through carefully and I am sure that they will find somebody new to head The Dark Universe, look at Warner Brothers. They are having trouble with The DCEU and I heard that when Justice League didn't do to well, they are trying to find the right person to guide The DCEU. So I have high hopes for The Dark Universe and people who say that it is dead because Kurtzman left is mind boggling to me. Because first people say he was the problem and he needs to leave and when he leaves, they say let The Dark Universe die, SMH.

In regards to be large scale you could totally have a monster destroying cities and have it be horrifying, but I think that not only does that obviously require a higher budget, you would have to match a sort of dread that could only be felt if you really took the time to make your world feel at mercy of the creature. And unless you have a brilliant writer, cinematographer and have a perfect team together, that ain't going to cut it.
I actually really enjoyed Dracula Untold. Luke Evans as Dracula was perfect for me, it worked. I hope they do a sequel. It was miles ahead of this Mummy crap
I really enjoyed Dracula Untold and Luke Evans portrayal. They really should've committed and started with that. Also don't be afraid of making the movies R rated. My biggest complaint with DU was that trying to tone down the violence for a PG13 rating really hindered some cool action scenes.

my complain about that movie is it was a bit too dark (not in tone but just I couldn't see shit) and too short but I other than that I really liked it too, ive always wanted to see a movie showing how Dracula came to be. I know bram stokers Dracula touched on it but this one really shows you more. I feel like it had lots of potential for some better sequels.
Yeah Blumhouse make those movies on shoestrings and turn a profit. I doubt they would even bother with DU because the budget of just one movie is enough to make 4-5 more Insidious/Sinister spinoffs LOL.
It should be pointed out that Dracula as being the big evil has been done it's called Monster Squad. Also I think they really need to sit down and look at the original movies and look at what they did.

Then, when they all come together for the monster mash, have the monsters all confused as to why they were brought back into modern times and are baffled by the obsurdity of the premise they're in. It could make for a nice deconstruction of the genre.
Look at the anime “Hellsing” as the kind of time they should have gone for. Evil monsters used against evil monsters and others in a context were some times you wonder who is the most monstrous- the evil of those the wield it.

Underworld done the action spectacle with Monsters, and Penny Dreadful already did the suspense horror. Universal just missed the boat on both. They should have just copied wither of those franchise's or just bought them and revamped them.
Yeah, walking away from their horror roots was a huge mistake. Why dwell in the action/adventure/superhero genre where you have such tough competition, specially with the meanest dog in that yard, Marvel? Although this would require a lot of work and talent, I would say the mandate should be to reinvent these monsters so they can be scary or at least creepy again. I think Coppola accomplished this with Dracula. Oldman didn't look or dress like the traditional Dracula we were used to but reinvented the character while staying true to his roots. I would actually like to see what Guillermo del Toro could do with some of these monsters, at least on the looks department.

They already (well)established a fictional universe within many characters, but was always held back by budget. It worked. It was sexy, scary & Different.

I think the reason why Van Helsing wasn’t leading Prodigum is because Van Helsing has been used so many times when it comes to Universal Monsters stories that they prefer to do something different. That and I also assume that they also wanted to wait for Van Helsing to have his own movie in this universe.

What a weird revisionist history people have with Marvel. From the VERY FIRST movie, they said they wanted to build a universe. Nick Fury appears in an after credits sequence for Iron Man, inviting him to join the Avengers. That was the first MCU movie. In The Incredible Hulk (the 2nd MCU film), Tony Stark appears to talk to Thunderbolt Ross about the Avengers. The difference is that they built toward having a shared universe, didn't just try to pretend like it already existed.
h8today Those scenes were Easter eggs and wink and nods, stark wasnt a main character in Hulk. They weren't making articles about the plans for the avengers during the filming of ironman. Sure by the time captain America was coming out they were ramped up into gear about avengers but it's not nearly the same as having press conferences and stuff for ur universe before the first movie even makes a dollar.
They might not have gone to the extent of creating a logo and having full conversations, but it was clear that was their intention from the start. They hired some of the biggest names working in the industry and formed a new distribution chain.
Captain Marvelous they still had a plan, had a vision for what they wanted for this franchise. I don’t think Universal had a clear vision for what they wanted. Even DC has more of a vision than them.

How To Build a Movie Team-up/Combine Universe Step 1: Let the Movie/Movies have it own focus first. Step 2 Slowly build up those Movies that gonna meet later on, in the squeal films. Step 3: Get your Team-up/VS/Combine Universe together. The Marvel Films followed these Steps pretty well. DC Comic films kinda skipped Step 2, but trying to find it leggings and doing a ok job. Dark Universe was full of itself and half ass all 3 Steps into one movie.
Phase 2 of the Dark Universe: - Classic Monsters vs. Modern Monsters. One example: Frankenstein's Monster vs. Jason Voorhees, but a bloody and brutal battle. The Wolfman vs. Michael Myers.
I enjoyed Dracula untold; it had flaws but I enjoyed it. Mummy however...was a wreck, when I see a horror movie, I expect a horror movie. Though I was looking forward to a new Creature from the black lagoon and wolfman.
The DT Crew describing a Suicide Squad of monsters with Dracula being the final villain reminds of final season of Penny Dreadful. Universal should just follow that model.

Suggestion: do not hire ex-names like Russel Crow, who had 1, maybe 2 movies, but now slipped to christian-movies. That immediately alienates large portion of audience. Also agree: make horror. Take example of DC's Justice League Dark. Also: plan on the arc. How'll the movies connect and what'll you do with the monster? I mean if all monster candestroy cities in a whim, you can't build anywhere. You'd also give the "shield"-leadership to not Jekyll, but Invisible Man. That could give plenty of opportunity.
So back in January, they said that they're restructuring as Ed Solomon is no longer working on "The Invisible Man". (Which is probably great as he can focus on the third "Bill and Ted".) However, Bill Condon and Annabelle Wallis are both working on other films and Javier Bardem has not heard anything from Universal (in March), but I wonder if with CinemaCon they will say SOMETHING about the progress. I do think they shouldn't go TOO famous, although there are exceptions. (Michael Fassbender as the Phantom of the Opera...makes so much sense.) The problem with Cruise is that he wants to be TOO involved. Which is why he wasn't cast as Edward Scissorhands. And Universe...Universal...think about it. Still, give this to Simon Kinberg. He produced the period piece "X-Men" movies and would probably do right by this.
So if the monsters were a team of superheroes (ugh) that would make them a team of two reanimated dead guys (mummy and frankenstein), a vampire, a werewolf, a mutant (gillman), and three genius serial killers (the phantom, invisible man, and Jekyll). No girls allowed though...
I will say this and that is if Universal wants this Dark Universe to be a success they have to do this and that is make the budgets between 30-50 million, don't get a lot of A-Listers for their films, make the films standalone and have Jekyll appear at the end of the movie, also have some of these films take place in the past and have them lead up to modern times, use Retroactive Continuity as well as Prequels to fix the problems to The Mummy and bring in Dracula Untold as part of The Dark Universe, also let horror directors make the films and let somebody like Sam Raimi or any visionary who does horror take control of The Dark Universe, plus don't let the stars have control of everything. Plus make The Dark Universe true horror not action, because people want horror not action.
The problem is their goal was obviously a big cross over movie, but that would not work in a horror genre and they knew it. What they should have done was have the individual horror movies, keeping the monsters completely seperate, but had the organization be the only thing that tied them together, but don't have them be a major part of the films. Don't even have them be necessarily the good guys, Like in 1 movie there are a few agents another maybe has a scene in an abandoned one of their bases. Just have this 1 thing that is a minor thing in each movie linking them together. but that wouldn't get you Avengers money and as we all know, executives either want all of the money or none of it.

The show Penny Dreadful is the perfect template if they ever wanted to reboot the Dark Universe! It's pretty much the Dark Universe but in a TV format.
I still really want this universe. Mummy should never have been an action film. It was Mission Impossible with monsters. Cut the budget from $100 M to $40M, take out the FX and make it a HORROR movie. A real horror movie, not an explosion extravaganza.

Dracula untold was so underrated and deserved much better.. Luke Evans was perfect for the role, if they ever do revive the dark universe, the studio should consider bringing him back. I think Luke should return as Dracula but maybe as a different version of the character. Kinda like Deadpool.. Ryan Reynolds started as Deadpool in that crappy X-men origins film.. But Fox brought him back as a better and new version of deadpool.. So I figured Universal should bring Luke Evans back as Dracula

Another advice: Don't call it the Dark Universe. It's very generic. Marvel and DC don't have a Superhero Universe. They have universes named after their brands.

Yes, this advise is very good and very important. They should get people that focus on/specializes in the genre the movie is based on. It is illogical to bring in people better known for action to do something for horror.
Here's my take: *_The Hunchback_*
I may start with this since it was technically one of Universal's very first motion pictures, and therefore possibly their first "Monster film". This would basically be a straight-up adaption of the original novel by Victor Hugo, with a little bit of an twist at the end. In a post-credits scene, it's revealed that Quasimodo has somehow remained alive and preserved for over 500 years, as he's uncovered and surrounded by mysterious figures in modern uniform. An ideal actor would be Andy Serkis.
*_The Phantom of the Opera_*
Much like _The Hunchback_ , this too would be a faithful adaptation of the original novel by Gaston Leorux. At the very end, after he fakes his death, he's confronted by two men in uniform (soon revealed to Prof. Helsing & Dr. Jekyll). For now, I can't think of an ideal actor for Erik, thought someone who's actually French would be suitable.
*_Dracula the Impaler_*
This would be an improved version of _Dracula Untold_ , with more historical accuracy, especially with the Vlad angle.
*_Frankenstein Untold_*
This could involve the Monster and the Bride, having been captured and preserved by Prodigium agents in the 1890s/1900s, awakening in modern-day.
*_The Mummy_*
Less Tom Cruise, of course. Or better yet, I'd have a younger and more suiting actor like Channing Tatum; as an archeologist as opposed to an aging US army sergeant. Sofia remains.
*_The Invisible Man_*
A modernisation of the original novel by H.G. Wells (set in 1997, a century after the book' original setting), similar to Spielberg's War of the Worlds.

Basically, think of a better version of the 2010 remake.

Prodigium agents travel to the Amazon under the guise of an Eco-expedition "mission", but it turns out they're intending to hunt for the legendary Gill-men. Think of the world-building and suspence of Kong: Skull Island & the Gothic romanticism of The Shape of Water, with a dose of Lovecraft-inspired cosmic horror.

My ideal actor for Helsing would be more on the lines of Peter Cushing or Edward van Sloan, but still captures some of the badarse attitude of Hugh Jackman. And also at least be actually from the Netherlands.

This would the ultimate crossover, though think of this as less of _The Avengers_ and more of _Civil War_ and _Suicide Squad_ . Charles Dance as the "Master Vampire (whose identity would be revealed as Caligula) would be the ultimate antagonist. Abraham has to team up with Quasimodo, Vlad, and Talbot (who wish to be cured of their curses) against Caligula, Ahmanet, Erik, the Frankenstein Monster, and Dr. Griffin.
The only Dark Universe we're gonna see is the one in Sony's under pants.
Just reverse the "Marvel" formula

+MAN FUCK YOU Technically..those people from Twilight weren't werewolves. Based on the original work of Twilight..they are suppose to be shape-shifters. They are descended from the ancient spirit warriors of the Quileute tribe. They even had ties to Native American legend like shape-shifters often do. They probably tried to push the idea that they were werewolves in the movies for the monster craze of vampires and werewolves.

Mr. Cool The Wolf Man with Benny del Toro. 2010. It was pretty good but still under inspired. It still would have been a pretty good starting point.
Reason #4 is the reason why the MCU even worked to begin with.
With the obvious exception of Avengers and Iron Man 2 (being a sequel), they're all standalone films. Yes, they have little easter eggs hinting at their connection to each other, but very little focus was given to them and they never amounted to anything other than a VERY brief shot or off-hand mention.
By and large, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger all function very well as standalone superhero flicks. They're not flawless by any stretch of the imagination, but they were decent enough, and aside from The Incredible Hulk they were all financially successful because of it.
You don't have to imitate Marvel to create a successful movie universe, but it is important to study from them and really take a look at why the MCU succeeded and why it continues to succeed.

Honestly, it's not a bad idea on paper. The issue is execution. They need to plan the whole thing out long term from start to finish: timeline, overall tone, casting, direction, number of actual solo movies, etc. These can be an updated series of classic horror films connecting characters who have crossed over before, but the studio can't rush it or they'll just put out something generic that no one wants to see.
Oh, and make them HORROR movies not action movies.
I agree with you and right now Universal is trying to think things through carefully and I am sure that they will find somebody new to head The Dark Universe, look at Warner Brothers. They are having trouble with The DCEU and I heard that when Justice League didn't do to well, they are trying to find the right person to guide The DCEU. So I have high hopes for The Dark Universe and people who say that it is dead because Kurtzman left is mind boggling to me. Because first people say he was the problem and he needs to leave and when he leaves, they say let The Dark Universe die, SMH.
Hopefully they make it work. I would love to see a cinematic horror universe (emphasis on the horror).

Funniest part of this movie: when Russell Crowe said to Tom Cruise "You are a younger man!". Please, he's gonna be 60 in a few years.
In regards to be large scale you could totally have a monster destroying cities and have it be horrifying, but I think that not only does that obviously require a higher budget, you would have to match a sort of dread that could only be felt if you really took the time to make your world feel at mercy of the creature. And unless you have a brilliant writer, cinematographer and have a perfect team together, that ain't going to cut it.
For the last time, I, Frankenstein was by Summit Entertainment and Victor Frankenstein was by Fox.

I really enjoyed Dracula Untold and Luke Evans portrayal. They really should've committed and started with that. Also don't be afraid of making the movies R rated. My biggest complaint with DU was that trying to tone down the violence for a PG13 rating really hindered some cool action scenes.

my complain about that movie is it was a bit too dark (not in tone but just I couldn't see shit) and too short but I other than that I really liked it too, ive always wanted to see a movie showing how Dracula came to be. I know bram stokers Dracula touched on it but this one really shows you more. I feel like it had lots of potential for some better sequels.
Even in my theatre The Audience was laughing hard when that Dark Universe Logo came up.

It should be pointed out that Dracula as being the big evil has been done it's called Monster Squad. Also I think they really need to sit down and look at the original movies and look at what they did.
I like the suggestion of making each individual horror movie it's own subgenre horror flick. Think of it:
Dracula - Gothic Horror
Frankenstein - Science Fiction horror
The Mummy - Romantic Horror
The Wolfman - Psychological horror
Creature from the Black Lagoon - Monster flick
Phantom of the Opera - Mystery/horror
Then, when they all come together for the monster mash, have the monsters all confused as to why they were brought back into modern times and are baffled by the obsurdity of the premise they're in. It could make for a nice deconstruction of the genre.

Look at the anime “Hellsing” as the kind of time they should have gone for. Evil monsters used against evil monsters and others in a context were some times you wonder who is the most monstrous- the evil of those the wield it.

Yeah, walking away from their horror roots was a huge mistake. Why dwell in the action/adventure/superhero genre where you have such tough competition, specially with the meanest dog in that yard, Marvel? Although this would require a lot of work and talent, I would say the mandate should be to reinvent these monsters so they can be scary or at least creepy again. I think Coppola accomplished this with Dracula. Oldman didn't look or dress like the traditional Dracula we were used to but reinvented the character while staying true to his roots. I would actually like to see what Guillermo del Toro could do with some of these monsters, at least on the looks department.

I think the reason why Van Helsing wasn’t leading Prodigum is because Van Helsing has been used so many times when it comes to Universal Monsters stories that they prefer to do something different. That and I also assume that they also wanted to wait for Van Helsing to have his own movie in this universe.

They need to do any Dark Universe movies like the Nightmare on Elm Street or Jason movies. In that style. Maybe it's a little bit cheesy, (which you can use to get a laugh) but it's much more drawn in and focused on the "victims" which makes it scary.

What a weird revisionist history people have with Marvel. From the VERY FIRST movie, they said they wanted to build a universe. Nick Fury appears in an after credits sequence for Iron Man, inviting him to join the Avengers. That was the first MCU movie. In The Incredible Hulk (the 2nd MCU film), Tony Stark appears to talk to Thunderbolt Ross about the Avengers.
The difference is that they built toward having a shared universe, didn't just try to pretend like it already existed.
h8today Those scenes were Easter eggs and wink and nods, stark wasnt a main character in Hulk. They weren't making articles about the plans for the avengers during the filming of ironman. Sure by the time captain America was coming out they were ramped up into gear about avengers but it's not nearly the same as having press conferences and stuff for ur universe before the first movie even makes a dollar.
They might not have gone to the extent of creating a logo and having full conversations, but it was clear that was their intention from the start. They hired some of the biggest names working in the industry and formed a new distribution chain.
Captain Marvelous they still had a plan, had a vision for what they wanted for this franchise. I don’t think Universal had a clear vision for what they wanted. Even DC has more of a vision than them.

Marvel was extremely smart in how they handled it, but it was always the plan from the very first movie, and they weren't shy about it. Watch the post credits sequence from Iron Man again, it's pretty obvious.

People knew by the end of the first movie that they were building towards Avengers, it wasn't some bizarre secret they held onto for years, is what I'm getting at.
I mean, the dark universe was the technically the first universe that did crossovers back then. But I do agree, it's been so long that these legendary characters have been forgotten. They could have done it right without coming off so arrogant and a mediocre at best movie.
That is true and people forgot about it and these people that don't like it even call Brendan Fraser's Mummy The Original/Classic when it is Boris Karloff's Mummy from 1932 that was.
One thing that could be possible is the whole Bride of Frankenstein thing that's happening in 2019 if it's really good then it could probably help save it

How To Build a Movie Team-up/Combine Universe
Step 1: Let the Movie/Movies have it own focus first.
Step 2 Slowly build up those Movies that gonna meet later on, in the squeal films.
Step 3: Get your Team-up/VS/Combine Universe together.
The Marvel Films followed these Steps pretty well.
DC Comic films kinda skipped Step 2, but trying to find it leggings and doing a ok job.
Dark Universe was full of itself and half ass all 3 Steps into one movie.
Phase 2 of the Dark Universe:
- Classic Monsters vs. Modern Monsters. One example: Frankenstein's Monster vs. Jason Voorhees, but a bloody and brutal battle.
The Wolfman vs. Michael Myers.

I enjoyed Dracula untold; it had flaws but I enjoyed it. Mummy however...was a wreck, when I see a horror movie, I expect a horror movie. Though I was looking forward to a new Creature from the black lagoon and wolfman.

The DT Crew describing a Suicide Squad of monsters with Dracula being the final villain reminds of final season of Penny Dreadful. Universal should just follow that model.

Also: plan on the arc. How'll the movies connect and what'll you do with the monster? I mean if all monster candestroy cities in a whim, you can't build anywhere. You'd also give the "shield"-leadership to not Jekyll, but Invisible Man. That could give plenty of opportunity.

So back in January, they said that they're restructuring as Ed Solomon is no longer working on "The Invisible Man". (Which is probably great as he can focus on the third "Bill and Ted".) However, Bill Condon and Annabelle Wallis are both working on other films and Javier Bardem has not heard anything from Universal (in March), but I wonder if with CinemaCon they will say SOMETHING about the progress.
I do think they shouldn't go TOO famous, although there are exceptions. (Michael Fassbender as the Phantom of the Opera...makes so much sense.) The problem with Cruise is that he wants to be TOO involved. Which is why he wasn't cast as Edward Scissorhands. And Universe...Universal...think about it.
Still, give this to Simon Kinberg. He produced the period piece "X-Men" movies and would probably do right by this.
So if the monsters were a team of superheroes (ugh) that would make them a team of two reanimated dead guys (mummy and frankenstein), a vampire, a werewolf, a mutant (gillman), and three genius serial killers (the phantom, invisible man, and Jekyll). No girls allowed though...
I will say this and that is if Universal wants this Dark Universe to be a success they have to do this and that is make the budgets between 30-50 million, don't get a lot of A-Listers for their films, make the films standalone and have Jekyll appear at the end of the movie, also have some of these films take place in the past and have them lead up to modern times, use Retroactive Continuity as well as Prequels to fix the problems to The Mummy and bring in Dracula Untold as part of The Dark Universe, also let horror directors make the films and let somebody like Sam Raimi or any visionary who does horror take control of The Dark Universe, plus don't let the stars have control of everything. Plus make The Dark Universe true horror not action, because people want horror not action.

The problem is their goal was obviously a big cross over movie, but that would not work in a horror genre and they knew it. What they should have done was have the individual horror movies, keeping the monsters completely seperate, but had the organization be the only thing that tied them together, but don't have them be a major part of the films. Don't even have them be necessarily the good guys, Like in 1 movie there are a few agents another maybe has a scene in an abandoned one of their bases. Just have this 1 thing that is a minor thing in each movie linking them together.
but that wouldn't get you Avengers money and as we all know, executives either want all of the money or none of it.

I agree with you and I heard that they were going to continue with The Dark Universe even if Kurtzman left the project which both he and Morgan did. Plus Universal may find somebody else to take over their work, since they laid down the groundwork for Bride Of Frankenstein and Javier Bardem is going to be The Monster.
