I've taken your advice from your Sharknado 3D video and when I found that I, Robot was on a 3D Blu-ray, a film which I did not previously know was in 3D, I did my research and found many people hated the film's 3D, including you in this video. So thanks to you, and many other people, I avoided getting this dud. And what really stinks is how if you watch the film in normal 2D, you can see where the film wouldn't just work, but shine in 3D, if it was tastefully converted to the format. But there are just some things, such as how something should look in 3D, that only human beings should be allowed to do. I liked your comment on how the flatness of the film worked with the scene with the 2D hologram and also how its funny that human beings allow a machine to 3D convert a film that preaches against trusting machines. I guess human beings (specifically you, 3D Blu-ray Bunker) with good taste are also necessary for great reviews, too. I, Robot was a film I would've liked to see in 3D. But this isn't the conversion it deserves. If you, or anyone else reading the comment, want to check out a slightly obscure 3D Blu-ray title that actually delivers a tastefully done, if not absolutely amazing, 3D conversion, do check out Kung Fu Panda 3D. That film not only isn't flat, but has plenty of depth, pop outs, and mesmerizing 3D action. So much so, that's it on my top 15 favorite 3D films ever. Do watch that one instead of this flick.
I guess I should say that Sharknado's "3D" makes I Robot's 3D look like a masterclass... But, compared to a *properly* converted film, the 3D on offer here is, in my opinion, junk. As you say, it could have looked great, a real shame they just decided to do such a cheap job on it. I think Kung Fu Panda is one of the few mainstream animated films that I don't have on 3D Blu-ray; I'll hunt down a copy, thanks for the tip!
I think, for an convertion of an old movie, "I Am Robot & Predator" were fine, but, to be fair, it's true that "good" 3D looks different. Personaly I'm in a kinda 3D-phase now, well, for over a year now, as in looking into 3D-movies I didn't care about in 3D or didn't even notice before, so I try to get them for my movie-collection. No priority though. Some things I bought were bad, like "Top Gun 1 & The Last Unicorn", others were kinda bad, very zig-zaging with the 3D-quality, like "Man of Steel & Batman vs Superman" (sometimes shit 3D, sometimes kinda good 3D, most times no 3D at all, like, wtf), those I ditch. But if it's kinda good, or acceptable 3D, I probably keep it. Though the movie itself needs to be good or entertaining in general. I also got "Monster House, 009 & War of the Worlds: Goliath", which were also fine, being animated it makes 3D more noticable, I guess. Still need "Vidocq, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer", and that dinosaur-movie, which is I think something the BBC did, but for theaters, forgott the name. About the best 3D, I think the BEST 3D-movies are "Pacific Rim 1", which has quite impressive depth, pop-ups & particle effects, and it's converted, but done the right way, "Space Pirate Captain Harlock", which is an full CGI Anime, the action-spectacle is a very good thing to look at, again, probably because it's fully animated (the more visual effects, the better the 3D effect, usualy), "Gravity" of course, the "Transformers" stuff, again, action-spectacle, very nicely done, lots of stuff happening to look at, and last but not least, "Prometheus", with some strong 3D effects. Never watched "Avatar" in 3D, because I watch movies preferably in the longer version, which is more important to me than 3D. Same, sadly, with T2. Also movies from 20th Century Fox, like "Planet of the Apes 2 & 3, Life of Pi & Prometheus" seem to have a better 3D quality in general, compared to most of the other movies from other companies. I wonder if that's "real" 3D, or they just were willing to put more money into good convertions. Example, Warner Bros. movies are very up & down with their 3D. Their Kaiju-stuff is kinda good, other things like "Ready Player One, Rampage, San Andreas & Dune" are good, though different in quality, and then others are shit, like the DC stuff (that's why I didn't care about "Aquaman", which might've been a mistake), so it's strange to me, everything converted, but different in 3D-style/quality. There are also more movies from WB I didn't watch in 3D, like "Meg, Geostorm, King Arthur", and that big sci-fi flop from the "Matrix" directors. Haven't watched "The 7th Son" in 3D, I think it's from Universal, but that will change in near future. Hopefully 3D get's reanimated, because of "Avatar 2", which is quite successfull, and this indeed get's a 3D-release on BR, because money, it's confirmed, though I hope this counts for Germany as well... 😅
One of the worst conversions I've seen. They must not have watched the movie before they released it, or perhaps they simply did not care. And a real shame, too. i,robot is a fantastic choice for a 3D release. This is actually a pretty good representation of how Gulliver's Travels looks. Glad this didn't take off, think of how many other dissapointing 3D re-releases we would have gotten with this auto-post convert system. So dumb.
I'm sort of in two minds: Yes, this is garbage 3D, an embarrassment to the format thanks to a process that wasn't capable of doing the job. On the other hand, if they'd pursued that technology, could it maybe have got better and, as a result, we'd have had a load of legacy conversions served up on disc? Personally, I can't see how AI can manage to do what's necessary in terms of post conversion so ultimately, yes, I'm also delighted they gave up on this crap almost straight away. Humans 1, Robots 0.

Maybe if you ever get to the point of having almost every 3D release, then this is worth picking up, even if only as a curio. What do you reckon is the worst film in your collection, in terms of the 3D?
I have over 300 films in 3d now - just when I think I’ve got most of them, you or Tommy Boy come up with some interesting ones I had passed over. I started my collection about a year ago so I have just not had time to watch them all but some awful 3d in my collection - but not necessarily bad films ignoring the 3d - are Assassins Creed, Top Cat Movie, Horrible Henry, A Monster in Paris, Charlie Brown and Kraftwerk 3d Catalogue. There are probably more, but when I started collecting every 3d film seemed to be brilliant until I became more discerning - I would need to be in the stage of re-watching films to answer your very good question fully. I found it enlightening to use the Sony 3d emulator on some of mu home films and the results were better than expected, appearing equal to a poor 3d conversion by some of the studios.

So, my actual answer is - and this takes into account the assumption that they knew how bad it looked - I have absolutely no idea! Cheers matey.
Hi! This is one of those times when I was happy my 3D purchase contained the regular Blu Ray version. About 30 minutes in I ejected the 3D disk and put the Blu Ray in. I thought the story was pretty good, the 3D is awful. Thanks for another great review - Cheers!
Cheers John. I try to avoid being overly negative and look for the positives but, sometimes, I just sort of reach a tipping point and can't hold back. Like you say, the movie's fun and perfectly watchable as an enjoyable (2D!) experience. Cheers mate.
Cheers Daniel. This one's definitely in the "Not worth your time and money" category. Unless, like, you're super-rich and have some sort of eternal life serum. Even then, I'd still be hesitant to recommend it...
Thanks for another great reveiw! Watched this movie a few times, in 2D and 3D. The 3D quality is slightly below average, with many missed opportunities, but I like this movie and would still prefer to watch the 3D version. At the 10:23 mark you mention Will's hand being 2-dimensional, but I think he made up for it at the Oscars. I bet it looked and felt pretty 3-dimansional to Chris Rock 😉
Thanks. I heard bad things about this one. A shame that, as you point out, quite a lot of shots that could have worked well if enough effort applied to the conversion. I liked this movie though - the 3D may be a fail, but I’d still pick up a 4K release.
I guess that, ultimately, there was no way Fox was ever going to spend much money on these three (I think) 3D re-releases for Blu-ray, they can't have made much money on any of them, so the 3D was always going to have to be done very cheaply. And cheap it most certainly is..! Agree, it's quite fun as a film and a 4K disc could be nice: Maybe Fox will come up with a similarly shoddy version of re-mastering for 4K with some sort of cheap and crappy upscaling box of tricks..!
DUDE YOU HAVE GONE BALLS DEEP reviewing 3D film what the fuck fuck & your voice & recording is unintentional asmr heaven LOOOL you need to review man of steel & Prometheus STAT!!!! This is another one of those 3D films that just felt fully flat. Even the scene in the third act when they are trying to shut down I think she's called Eve. And they are on them boardwalks there is just no 3D. It had such great potential to be a 50/50 3D. This and jumper I just feel the same way about them both. Man i so so so love your honest reviews. I totally agree with your comments about this release and I'm pleased I only rented it from Lovefilm. Still didn't stop me from buying Predator which is just as bad. Do you have plans to do some horror in the month of October?
Hi Simon. Ha ha, I love the fact that, after watching this mess, you went ahead and bought Predator anyway! That sounds a bit like me: The one lesson I think I've learned in life is that I don't learn from my mistakes! Or, maybe, just call us eternal optimists... It's a good point, I think I've only had a look at one horror film here so far, and I do have a few...
By far the worst 3D conversion I have seen, most of the film is flat as a pancake. Many places if you removied the glasses you could see no eye separation. I'll see it in 2D next time.
You know, I think I'm almost in the same boat: Although, I have bought and watched *one* German auto-conversion, Sharknado and, in fairness, I have to say that both the film and the 3D make I, Robot look like a full-on stereoscopic masterpiece! But, yes, I, Robot's 3D is cynical garbage and an embarrassment to the format.
I probably shouldn’t comment, I will be taken for one of the dumb people who liked it. I think I’m overly influenced by my feelings for the movie. I thought the 3D was pretty good but will concede most people hated it. Most people love Piranha and I so disliked the movie I thought the 3D was a mess.
Hey Gary. Definitely not dumb, I think it's just that you embrace the format so much that you're able to enjoy 3D in all its forms. I think I'm sort of similar when it comes to food - I'll eat and enjoy pretty much anything, but wouldn't say I have an especially unsophisticated palette, I just love eating! You certainly know great 3D from weak 3D, but I think you just love to devour as much 3D as possible! I know I watched Piranha about ten years ago, but I don't think I've seen it in 3D, need to rectify that..!

Heh heh, very good! That would have been the best bit of stereo old Chris or anyone else had seen from Will Smith!
Does this look better in active 3D rather than passive?
Personally I think it looks pretty dreadful in both, the 3D's just of such poor quality.
DUDE YOU HAVE GONE BALLS DEEP reviewing 3D film what the fuck fuck & your voice & recording is unintentional asmr heaven LOOOL
you need to review man of steel & Prometheus
STAT!!!!
I thought they were gorgeous in 3D...in some ways more so than 2D actually. avatar 3D is maybe the best film experience ever now that I think on it LMFAO
[my love for avatar 3d brought me to the channel]
This is another one of those 3D films that just felt fully flat. Even the scene in the third act when they are trying to shut down I think she's called Eve. And they are on them boardwalks there is just no 3D. It had such great potential to be a 50/50 3D. This and jumper I just feel the same way about them both. Man i so so so love your honest reviews. I was so heartbroken when I watched this in 3D as I heard from a couple of people that this was a great 3D movie. Ergh was so dissapointed. But hey if I wanna watch a great 3D robot movie I have Terminator 2 judgement day and pacific rim. Haha great review mate take care.
Ha ha. I'm kind of envious of those people who saw this and thought the 3D was great: Imagine what they've got in store for themselves when they watch something like you mention there, their minds will be blown! I didn't fully spell it out in this one, but I wouldn't describe the 3D here as "Mild" or "Weak" - but rather simply as "Shit". Hope things are good with you LJ, take it easy buddy.
@@3D_Blu-ray_Bunker haha I prefer the description you gave at the end of the comment haha. Oh man I totally agree thanks for talking mate and hope to talk soon take care
@@ljdracosmoviechannel4191 You reminded me, I bought this along with Jumper years ago, and haven't ever watched Jumper - but I've heard people say the 3D in that one is even worse!
@@3D_Blu-ray_Bunker oh... Well everyone should always go straight into any 3D with a blank mind and see it for themselves but yeah it is complete pants haha.
@@ljdracosmoviechannel4191 At my age my mind's fairly blank most of the time these days..! Maybe I'll give it a try - just to see if it can out-pants I, Robot..!
Speaking of Robots... Transformers 3-5 next??
Funny you should mention them: I went to see Dark of the Moon at the cinema - and walked out after about 40 minutes. But, idiot that I am, I have those three on disc! So, maybe one day...
Did you see Vinegar Syndrome will release an early 80's 3D blu-ray? Maybe we will see Flesh for Frankenstein eventually!
I've seen people debating what it might be - whatever it is I know it'll be a film that I've never seen in 3D, so I'm looking forward to whatever it is. Yes, it would be awesome for Flesh to get a release, and I'd have thought it's one of the better-known currently unreleased 3D titles out there: Someone really should have put it out at the height of the modern boom, might have made a few quid...
@@3D_Blu-ray_Bunker No matter what it is it is a very positive sign. I hope it will be more.
Auto conversion.........seen some good ones and some bad ones. Thanks for saving me money on this one mate. Great review mate Cheers!
Hi Tommy. I definitely thought the 3D in this one was a big disappointment - but not altogether surprisingly so..! Cheers buddy.
“Probably a shark” 😂
Hey Ricky, good to hear from you. And, thanks for noticing that - it's my favourite observation that I've made since I've been doing these videos! Hope you're keeping well, cheers buddy.
I have it in 3-D it was really good
By far the worst 3D conversion I have seen, most of the film is flat as a pancake.
Hey Will, what’s up!
