Something always wanted to learn this, would you mind if I started with a hopefully simple project and try create a lyrics version of your awesome rock 'n roll single I won't post it without your permission though but hopefully you allow me to. Massive thank you for the tutorial
DANIEL since you made move to Davinci i started to see on other channels creators are also starting to switch to DaVinci .I only dont like very poor or lets say limited transition selection .I will tell you movavi is better .I havent seen Final cut pro as this is only available on mac Cheers
Nothing against anyone else that teaches DaVinci, but so far, you’re the only one I’ve watched that makes this complex subject and software digestible. Thank you for that
As a public educator with 16 years experience and someone, like most people today, who has learned a number of skills on youtube, I have to compliment you on your teaching. Amazing job sir! Slow enough to follow, detailed without getting lost in things that can come later. You focused on the big picture, explained what each piece was along the way. I’ve watched 30-50 videos on everything from iMove, Final Cut express (15 years ago), to Luma Fusion and now DaVinci Resolve and you are the best teacher I have had the experience from learned from. Kudos to you for teaching so well. Not only did I learn a ton, I felt confident in what I knew straight away. That confidence is due to your excellent teaching and guidance. Job well done!
Fun fact: They are called "Film Bins" in a lot of programs because back when the old timers were editing the actual film, they would cut the shots out of the roll with a razor and hang them by the sprocket holes on hooks set up in a special rack. The shots could be very long... many feet of film... so rather than letting the film create a pile on the floor, the rack was built over a special bin that collected it. This whole arrangement was just called "a bin". Shots were organized into the bins and the bins could be rolled around and organized or pulled in as the editor needed. Editing back then was done on a desk sized contraption and the film was cut into pieces and taped back together with special tape that had sprocket holes. Sound was on a seperate roll running in sync, and it was basically magnetic tape with sprockets that was also cut and taped in sequence with the film. You could build multiple tracks of sound but you could never hear more than two of them together until it was mixed down with several machines all running the many reels of sound together in synch. Man what a pain it all was.
And before tape splicing of film with a machine, there was physical scraping off the emulsion with a razor blade, and using a 'welding' solution 'Film Cement' you would place the two layers of film together, usually using a sprocket hole alignment device, but often just by eye, and hold the two layers together until it set. If done properly these joins could last 100 years or more.
I'm stoked you are teaching Davinci! I began using it a few months ago and still have so much to learn. Unfortunately, most tutorial videos on TH-cam are a bit confusing for me. Your method of teaching is easier to digest... you get to the point without overwhelming us noobs. ;)
Just play with it as you go. The best way is as you need to learn a new skill in the software, tackle it then. Been using it for a few years and I still do not know everything I could, and I did actual training with Blackmagic.
After watching so many videos, Daniel in my opinion is the best, the way he explains things is super easy to understand and easy to follow, He has a gift, thanks bud.
Daniel when you explain it, I feel like - I can do this. Your delivery is easy to follow and you explain enough so that we can talk ourselves through something while working with it. I like that you are giving just morsels of information about the many features (because yes explaining everything all at once get confusing). For us beginners this is awesome because these tips can help us edit a video and get some bearings in the program. We can try something else next time, but the more we use it, the more we can do down the line. Thanks, I can't wait to try again - I tried it and got overwhelmed so I am going to give it another shot.
Right on, Peachy! You can totally do this. I also have a Resolve for beginners Shorts series that gives one simple tip a day. Check it out if once you start working with the software and let me know if this is helpful ---> th-cam.com/play/PLsVDy3wGxbDA-pvAT1eH2_khEe0lDe90e.html&si=MXQbCJMpC57Be3Qx
Daniel, don't worry about the experts. What is most important is HOW YOU TEACH, NOT HOW MUCH YOU KNOW. I have worked with experts in many areas but they are poor teachers, you get your message across clearly and most importantly you stay on the rails and stay on point, this is how people learn, thanks brotha!
Were you or are you a teacher? Everyone else rushes through everything and I waste a lot of time rewinding. You hit the perfect speed so I could follow along as it went. Your voice and cadence made you easy to understand. There was a few times you clicked on something and I wasn't sure where that was, so I paused and click around a bit and found it. This instructional video was awesome. Thank you Daniel.
No, I was never a teacher. Just another video editor like yourself who felt a lot of the tutorials out there moved too fast or didn’t take the time to help me understand what I needed to know in the moment ☮️
I have to say..Ive been a photographer since 1984. I dabbled in video this year an was overwhelmed. Ive installed then un-installed this software at least a dozen times. Completely confused and frustrated. I watched your video, worked along side it and ive got to say..pretty damn impressed with my results. Thank you so much for doing this. Simple, neat and explained in a way even a caveman can understand. Kudos Brother, and thank you again.
You are the best teacher for beginners. Not overloading us with information. Just getting us comfortable and making the software seem so approachable. I think getting comfortable with a software is much more important then all the advance features. Once you are comfortable. Your curiousity takes over and you master the advance features so much faster .
Thank you Daniel. As others have stated, your style and concise direction are NOT confusing and following along is far easier than other Teachers' videos on Davinci Resolve. I appreciate your time and knowledge to help us "Noobies" get a working useable handle on how this sophisticated software can be manipulated without having a degree in Rocket Science from MIT. I've only found a couple of you guys who instruct properly rather than impress totally. That's impressive to me. Rock On!
Wow thanks Daniel! I'm using it for 3 years, and even though now I paid for the Studio, I can tell anyone here that the free version is more than enough to edit 4k videos for TH-cam. One crucial matter for quality is the Mbps value on the delivery page. It has to be set generously, actually way over the value that people can see here and there advised.
For all of you wondering where the toolbox is (if you can't find it when he shows it), just click on that Effects button once (that pencil with the stars thingy on the top left next to Media Pool). Btw, great video !!!
You're very welcome! Yeah, it drives me crazy that a lot of Resolve tutorials want to move fast and flood us with information. It felt like there wasn't a lot of content that just broke down the basics.
I would truly like to thank Filmora for all they have done lately. Without their actions I would not have such an excellent teacher to teach me how to use Davinci Resolve. I really needed this. Thank you Daniel and thank you Filmora. 💕
I would also like to thank Filmora for all they have done for me, after using their software for years, i now use davinci and oops who uninstalled filmora from my laptop?!?
@@snorie I downloaded Filmora but got turned off by their pricing. Way to rich for my blood. Davinci is Free For Life! I pay $5 per month for a library and that is ALL. I will be looking into getting the Premium Version though for sure.
Exactly why I came to the comments! I went to edit a video today and thought 'what's with my lifetime subscription!?' googled it and here we go! Thanks Daniel, I already had Davinci downloaded from years ago and couldn't figure it out so paid for filmora, now I think with your help I can master it. Thanks!
Thanks Daniel, you are the absolutely the clearest Davinci teacher on TH-cam. You are engaging, funny, and you use all the video elements with closeups and texts to make your points. Thank you!
I've only edited and uploaded a handful of my own videos to YT so far, and I pull this video up to edit and export every time to make sure I'm squared away. Thank you for the noob-friendly process!
I’ve been watching your channel in passing for a year or so, even bought the full version of Davinci a year ago, but only recently diving into it and leaving the’ol’’PowerDirector’ behind. I’ve got like 20 years of my bands video footage that I’m trying to turn into something, lol. So I’m digging in and you’re helping a lot. Thank you!
Thank you Daniel, I've heard a lot of good things about DaVinci Resolve and had been looking at tutorials recently. I absolutely love your teaching style and appreciate you teaching us the basics, informing us where features we may be looking for are located, and not overwhelming us. Again, great video and thank you!
Wow! I love the way you teach! I looked at so many tutorials on how to use DaVinci Resolve and I always felt like most youtuber's way of teaching had me so confused lol. Teaching the foundation of editing is so important. Thanks man!
As a young adult who grew up gaming, I've learned somethings. The biggest lesson is that no matter how much I've learned and how gud I have got, I am still a Big Noob. This video is for my people and I! Love to see you're doing content on my preferred editing software, shame how the whole filmora debacle happened, but at least many people found your channel!
You are an excellent teacher for someone like me. I get so confused watching people talk in high tech languages that I cant understand. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I learned a lot!
This is the perfect introduction to DaVinci! Have watched dozens of "beginners" tutorials and this is the first one that has resonated in a way that makes sense. Completely new to editing software .... THANKYOU!!!
I'm a complete editing noob, as your title suggests, but this was insanely easy to follow. Will binge the rest of your tutorials, looking forward to getting swamped in edits. Earned my sub!
Because of the major thing that happened with Filmora dissing their lifetime users, and your recommendation of Da Vinci, i set off on a NEW troubleshooting path and created my first video with Resolve yesterday. I have one more video to make today so this tutorial here will be an even greater impact for refining and doing things better. Wish i would have known about DaVinci before I paid 80 bucks for only a years use of "lifetime" Filmora. I'm pretty bitter about that even though they supposedly backtracked. I don't know what they did cause i never looked back. Anyhoo, luckily my videos are extremely simple and the free download is more than ample. Now i need to learn how to make a thumbnail. I think I saw yesterday one can make a thumbnail in Resolve which is cool, also Canva is a place to make one too i think. Glad i found you Daniel, peace.
I've watched many video editing lessons. This is the best I've seen. Daniel does not 'bog' you down with too much detail. He moves it to logical conclusions in each section, gifted instructor.
Daniel, thank you sooooo much. I'm completely new to video editing and this is a life & time saver. I only want to do pretty simple edits so right now this is everything I need to get much better results than I ever could have using iMovie which was my other option. You are so incredibly clear in your explanations and the pace is perfect. Awesome piece of content!
A very good and simple explanation. Thank you, I have been using this platform and the truth is that sometimes I have felt overwhelmed with all the tools, that at first, I did not know where to start. But your explanation has been very clear and straight to the point. Thanks again for your efforts in bringing us these educational videos because most of us don't have the time to travel through all the features of a platform, and just want to jump right in with the basics to get to work. I keep sponsoring your channel keep up the good work.
We totally agree with you. Various TH-camrs are knowledgeable and want to make a flashy video. Every breather is cut away and you have to translate everything, understand and pause your computer in the meantime. You also have to follow the mouse. In that context, another tip for Daniel, our not a rockstar 😉, preferably use mouse pointer software. On request, we can send a website that can offer Tons of possibilities. In addition to the video of a similar tutorial video, on another channel, we will also strictly recommend this video. Great job Daniel, Cum Laude 👌🏻💯🏆
I cannot begin to tell you how long my search has been to find a well-done beginners tutorial on Davinci. I struggle with comprehension and it takes me awhile to get things right away when learning. I finally feel like it's possible for me to create film with more ease and understanding. Thank you so much Daniel.
Crafty and simply explained. I was just watching how much editing and work you had to do to put this explanation video together for us like a wizard. Always interested in hearing what you have to say for this noob.✌️
What a brilliant tutorial.... There are so many tutorials on TH-cam which jump straight into the advanced stuff way too early. Thanks for your logical approach. I've learned a lot.😃😃
So refreshing to hear someone teaching learners without including every little option on the way. I started watching the Resolve beginner instructor video, after 20 minutes I gave up, just too much information. You will be my main source from now on. Thank you 👏
A great thank you Daniel. I’ve really struggled to learn DaVinci Resolve and had just about given up. But with your careful and clear instructions, I have uploaded a short video. Now I am getting the confidence to do another one. Thanks so very much,
As a fellow content creator that used/still using Filmora for the past 3 years. It's been really difficult trying to switch to different editing software that is as easy as Filmora. While the issues that Filmora have brought up recently made it quite unreliable. it really is one of the easiest UIs to understand. and so wanting to switch to a different software definitely proved it's challenges, I'm glad to find that you've been making tutorials for Davinci Resolve (a software I was introduced to months ago, but was a difficult switch as it seemed like a large learning curve) Massive props to you, Daniel Batal. Hoping to learn more things from you in this new journey
I have searched and watched so many DaVinci Resolve tutorials, but I must say that no one teaches the way Daniel does. I am so thankful to you for making me able to fully do my editing now in DaVinci resolve. The one that I really struggled with was the color page and your session on CONQUER the COLOR page in DaVinci Resolve helped me master color grading.
@@pennsylvaniaghostdiaries7552 I made the switch to Davinci when filmora tried to charge me for upgrades after I had purchased a lifetime license. My videos now look amazing.
Incredible tutorial. Focused on the overall structure, explained the most important bits, added useful pointers and arrows and aced through it with 0 seconds wasted.
This is hands down the best beginners tutorial I have seen! I’ve been working with DaVinci Resolve since October, fumbling my way around, and got down the basics I’ve needed. Wish I would’ve found this months ago. Very clear, with a helpful focus on a basic workflow.
Great job, Daniel. I've been using Resolve (free) for about a year and learning along the way. I keep a notebook of specific things I find out and effects I may want to use again. I recently was editing a client video and noticed the subject had a big pimple on her forehead. Then I discovered that Resolve has a sort of "clone stamp" feature and I was able to remove that blemish. (And the client will never know LOL) Can't wait to see more of what you discover.
So far, the free version has served me well. Davinci Resolve allows me to do all the basic stuff I need to breathe life into my videos. I'm not used to editing programs that have different pages. It was a minor adjustment, yet a welcomed one. I'm able to take several duplicate clips and make one compound clip which helps since my videos are an hour long (music playlist type stuff). It also helps me keep track of things because I get confused easily 😂 PS: tysm for showing us the "bin" feature. It's something I definitely need to stay organized and on track!
The edit page is the most familiar coming from other software but don't sleep on the cut page. I finally started using it and it makes so much easier for me to sort video clips I want to use, put them in the right order and cut to the right length. Then I move to 'edit', well... to edit them, but jump back to 'cut' when I need to make some structural changes to the project. It really IS useful.
I definitely think it’s useful. The problem is that people who have never used the software get overwhelmed with the features and layouts. I really wanted to make a simple video that was focused on someone who just wanted to learn how to get from import to export without feeling they needed a college degree to do so
I found the Cut page was useful but it was one of Daniel's video that made me aware of the Deliver and the choice box of "Entire Timeline" or "In/Out Clip" which was brilliant for working with Cut page to put a long continuous footage into much more manageable "on location" style short clips
The best video editing tutorial I’ve seen ever a lot of TH-camrs when they are actually teaching you they act like you should already know a lot of the basics and this was definitely the best one I watched. Thank you so much.
Should really be using "Folder" rather than "File" when you're talking about the Bins cos you're putting files IN there, like you do with a folder 15:29 Keyboard shortcut for that is BACKSPACE, DELETE will ripple cut, BACKSPACE will leave the other clips in place. 17:25 Most of the time I actually use "Smooth Cut", I think it's just a nicer look for a transition, I usually make it quite short too though. 19:29 The little diamonds to the left of the undo/reset are your keyframes, so if you're doing a gradual zoom change for example, you would set your first zoom level, click the keyframe ◇ then go to the end of the zoom, change the zoom level and click ◇ again, now you have a gradual zoom change, BEAR IN MIND, once the playback marker goes past your final keyframe, whatever value you changed (zoom, position, etc) will stay at your last keyframe level, You can do the same for the other changes, like rotation/position/etc 30:27 This is where you can get into using "proxies" which are basically a lower quality version of your clips just for playback during editing, it doesn't affect the overall export. (Daniel obviously covered that too 🤣 )
Yup. See, what happens in every Resolve tutorial I watch is… well, that. There seems to be need from the community to explain every road sign on the highway instead of just showing people which way to drive. That’s what I was really trying to avoid in this video. I’m hoping more people just start editing with the software and don’t get intimidated by all the bells and whistles.
@@Daniel_Batal It really is the best free video editor out there. I wish you could hide the functions that are not available in the free version rather than that massive popup though, it's quite annoying and baffling why they wouldn't do that. The files it exports are also MASSIVE, I usually end up using Shutter Encoder to get a smaller version
@@Daniel_Batal ... You are correct. I am seeking to know the basics BEFORE anything else and want to use the K.I.S.S. method. Searching YT, yours has been the best so far. I'm making basic fishing videos. It takes so much time for YOU to make THIS video. It is appreciated. Thank you. 1. Where to start- what page or screen to be on. 2. How to bring in my media. 3. Enter it in the time line. 4. Edit/cut out the unneeded footage of each clip. 5. Put the clips in the order needed. 6. Transitions if wanted/needed. 7. Titles and exit credits if wanted. Thanks again, . Jeff .
You are the reason why I had been using Filmora for years... And now, I think I'm going to give DR a try.. And more likely, I would shift... Just make more tutorials and inspire us, specialy our upcoming content creators 🙂
I've been on DR a week and it's so frustrating. A screenshot on FILMORA is a simple click on the camera logo next to the time line vid, on DR I have to clear my calendar for 2 weeks.
@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV the Help menu rocks in DR. You're looking for freeze frame. In the help menu search field type in 'freeze' and DR will animate the control in the interface in a call out form. Probably the best help system in any software just uses a different terminology. DR is just as deep as Maya.
@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV one thing you could try is adding the folder your system saves screenshots to, to your favorites in the Media page. Use your preferred screen grab method for your system. In the Media page you can also navigate to this screenshots folder, right click "Add folder and subfolders to Media Pool (Create Bins)" and it will add this screenshot folder to your source files which you can access from Cut or Edit pages. You can then drag them onto the timeline without having to generate them within resolve.
Dude, I am already learning so much from you, I'm going to have to dig deep and go through your video library regarding these tutorials, they're AMAZING. I downloaded and tried Davinci once, but as stupid as it sounds, I had no idea how to crop a video so my browser was no longer in frame and it was just the YT video I was reacting to, and that kinda put me off Davinci until I ran across you and Casey's channel who also does a full 4.5 hour tutorial on Davinci. You two dudes are the dudest dudes that have ever duded, my dude. Nothing but love and respect my guy, I truly appreciate all the knowledge that you're sharing with us newbs!
Thank you so much Daniel! Although I have tons of experience with Premiere Pro, I was stuck on the initial 'cut' screen for 10 minutes straight :D Your 7 page explanation put all pieces together and I started editing in no time. You are 101% correct about people trying to explain by going into so much detail that the viewer starts feeling lost. Teach a man to fish, he'll do the rest by himself!:)
Thank you for putting this video together. I'm a total noob and know nothing about video. Your instruction and teaching are spot on. I totally love it when you commented to give use the basics and worry with all the other selections later as you learn the tool. Great usable information!!!!
This is easily the best TH-cam tutorial for any NLE I have ever seen. Bravo! I can’t tell you how much this helped me to refamiliarize myself with Resolve!
Hey thanks! Glad this was useful. Just dropped a new video on the color page an hour ago ---> th-cam.com/video/SkosqJfzEs0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=y5HeJcgZuYPUq3nL
Nice video, simple and to the point.Only thing I would do differently is your Text resize and position. Don't use the settings tab, this can lead to the text degrading (if zoomed too far) and random clipping of the text. Use the "Size" control on the "Text" tab to zoom, and then go to the "Layout" tab and use the Center X &Y to position. This will stop the issue mention. Otherwise, great work! Keep it up and welcome to the Davinci Resolve mad house!
@@Daniel_Batal Don't know the techy stuff, do know that the "Size" control on the Text tab works as though the text is a vector so smoothy resizes, where as the "Settings" zoom control is effectively zooming on a rasterised image, hence the degradation at higher zooms
Mind blown. So this is why text always looks bad in my projects! I knew it was something I was doing wrong, but could never articulate it enough to ask. Thanks!
Hi Daniel, ive watched several of your other videos, and speaking from the heart even though I like a few others as well how they teach us and explain, you are especially gifted. you have a way of explaining the process and taking the time that anyone can follow, I sometimes require individualized training because I get lost! you simplify things for me and I appreciate that. thank you Sir!
Wow, thanks! I have the same issues learning complicated software. I need things simplified in a way that my brain can digest information in a relatable way. I’m glad that this comes across in these videos for you as well ☮️❤️
Wow! At 00:18 I decided to do the same: stop using Filmora and start Davinci. Funny, they JUST installed a feature that I asked for 2 years ago. :-) All good, I can use both, now. And your videos are helping! "Yea, I'm a noob." lol
Amazing video. Really liked it. Optimized media was great for resolve 16,17, but for Resolve 18 blackmagic has created proxy generator, and it's an amazing tool that comes with resolve (both free and paid version) and has the simplest workflow. You can just select the folder where you've your high res footages and then the proxy generator will create proxies, and in resolve you can switch between the originals and proxies while editing and grading and the workflow is super seamless and anytime you add new footages to the selected folder, it will automatically create new proxies. Amazing video regardless.
The only problem with this tool is the limited codec support, at least on Windows. If your computer already struggles with h264 it won't help much. The exact same proxy generation is also available within Resolve, and has a lot more options for proxy formats that are much more helpful to those with underpowered PCs.
Man this is great! I’m a total noob. I’m a musician and producer that wants to do music videos. I’m creating parts with Ai and I want to glue bounce it all down. After watching this I think I’ll stick w DaVinci. Thank you
Thank you Daniel for recommending this software. I should have been aware of it a long time ago so I didn't have to spend money on Adobe subscription. The UI can be a little bit tough to get used to at first but so far, my recent shorts were made with Davinci and the export was a great result. BTW, are you going to do small tutorial videos of how to edit a certain thing (like masking, green screen, audio effects) like you did with Filmora?
Hey Daniel, thank you so much for putting this video together and making the beginner steps so easy for me to learn DaVinci Resolve. I've imported my clips and been working on them, however, I have some overexposed elements in the centre of the video screen where the main studio lighting was too powerful/bright and my singer was wearing white and is overexposed. Everybody else on stage is fine. Colour is good. It's just my main subject is overexposed and I'm thinking it's because of the poor gamma latitude on the sensor that is used in my 7D Mark II. I've tried to pull the levels down using the 'highlights' features you showed here but to no avail. Are there any other settings I can use to reduce the overall brightness besides the 'offset' master? And does da Vinci resolve have a 'sharpen' option? Does 'superscale' have anything to do with sharpening video? First time use are here and would really love your input. I can use the rest of your videos to help me sort the rest out. Cheers.
Super scale will upscale your video file and it improve sharpeners but it also adds a lot of information because you’re raising the pixel count (resolution). For overexposed footage, I’d get familiar with the Curves feature. If it’s just one person in frame who is mostly overexposed, you could add a serial node with a area mask and invert it as to affect not the area in question
You may call yourself a DaVinci noob, but you are an excellent teacher, and are ridiculously personable, it makes picking this stuff up an absolute pleasure. Don't think you appreciate just how truly good you are at this teaching thing, If you want to see what I mean go and watch any video teaching Tosca, which is something i was enthused about learning for work, never been so bored and frustrated that I had to revert to swearing in my entire life.
I seriously appreciate the kind words! When I first started this channel, the whole goal was to help people who wanted to learn how to make TH-cam videos, put them onto TH-cam and actually grow a TH-cam channel. That all begins with learning how to edit videos and every video editing tutorial I ever watched was just so long, so boring and so needlessly confusing (kind of like this response right now, where the hell am I going with this...? ) oh, right...I told myself I would strive to make something different. I'm psyched to hear that these have worked for you and have been helpful!
@@Daniel_Batal Your dedication to creating engaging and accessible content shines through, and believe me when I say that it's making a difference. I've spent nearly 4 decades training people in various technical skills, and I can recognize serious talent when I see it. The way you make complex concepts approachable truly stands out. Keep up the fantastic work - your impact is far-reaching!
Thanks for simplifying this editing suite ,you spoke slowly and simply enough ,thanks for helping us newbies and not talking over our heads ,many thanks , greetings from wales UK ive liked and subd you .
You are a great teacher, it was smooth, useful and with details. I loved how you point it out with arrows, also when you used zoom to show the parts that you were refering to. Thanks a lot!!
Daniel, this is the best noob-friendly tutorial I've watched. Great delivery, terminology and explanations.....very systematic and logical walkthrough that gives just enough info so I can learn on my own. Many thanks!
Thank you, all the other tutorials I have watched have confused me when it comes to fusion. You have simplified it for me so that I can understand it better.
I'm a long-time Adobe user (literally nearly 20 years now), and I'm making the jump to single purchase programs. This made DaVinci seem so much more approachable. Thank you!
This has to be the most straight forward video I've ever seen on DaVinci! So much so that a friend of mine just got into editing and I instantly sent him your way. CHEERS!!
I must add that I really like the fact that you just show us what we need to 'get going as a Noob. Thats all we want to do at the start - just create a basic video. We can learn about all the other options and button later.
... I have been away for a while and just watched the video again, paused along the way, took 2 pages of notes. I was a great refresher. You did a VERY good job explaining the basics and that is what most newbies need. Again, Thank you, Jeff
Thanks. I just learned about this and will be attempting my first project which will be a re-edit of an earlier project done with other software that I was not happy with. You are a good teacher.
Wow, glad I found you. I regularly watch a ton of Resolve vids on YT and yours are great. I really like your pace (no need to listen to you at x1.25 or x1.5) and your choices of terminology/jargon. Makes it easy for me to understand Resolve processes, methods, and workflows. Can't wait to see more videos from you :)
Daniel, I have to say, you have a genuine talent for mentorship and training. The simplicity while still being thorough and very effective in your approach is not something easily accomplished. This is why I keep coming back to your channel. Well… that and for the truly funny moments like “which is a one-time license fee…we’ve been down that road before…” when I tell you I legit burst out laughing ! Keep making quality product and thank you for what you do!
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. I am just starting with screen recording and editing and this is the most helpful video i have found. I just want to start with the basics and build from there. The pace is clear and not garbled.
Hi Daniel I'm moving from iMovie to DaVR. DaVinci is streets ahead, but of course, so is the complexity! Tried many tuition videos but you are the very best yet...you don't rush to get it out and get finished! Most of the TH-cam tutors know their stuff but don't really get it across. I've being doing aerial films for several years and your present is really really helpful...so, a big thanks! Chris.
Hey thanks, Chris! I really appreciate that. I do my best to simplify complicated features by taking it slow and hopefully not getting lost in the weeds. If you ever have any questions, just shout them out in any video you happen to be watching whether it’s related to that video or not . I do my best to keep up with the comments section overall ☮️❤️
Thank you so much! This is the best tutorial about DaVinci Resolve for beginners. And you are so right about the "show me the basics, I will figure out the rest myself".
Awesome. I promise there will be more detailed videos in the future but for now... just trying to keep it simple to help as many Creators as possible feel comfortable with Resolve 😎
I really the way you explain the step by step process... you don't spend to much time with filler conversation, just the meat and potatos of how to use this software... great video... thats why I am now a subscriber... Thank you
I just want to say "thank you" for actually making a beginner friendly tutorial 😊 some of the other "for beginners" videos I've seen, where way too technical and as you mentioned they where trying to show all the advanced options that are very unnecessary and confusing.. so thanks, now I can actually get started ❤
Great presentation. I really appreciate the 'ignore the fiddly bits until later' approach. I made my first two You Tube videos with 'Ice Cream' video editor and find I need something with a bit more 'poke' - hence the switch to Resolve. Couldn't have done it without you!
WOW I did not hear you say you were a noob and watched the whole thing and you GOT it. Everything spot on and the right overview and level of detail for noobs - including some appropriate momentary excursions into some important higher end points for context or understanding. Thanks - am passing this to some super noob friends with a really good feeling!
I have watched a lot of videos on this subject. I wish that I had found you sooner! You have helped me more in this one video than all of the others combined! Thanks so much!
This video is a lifesaver for beginners! Your explanations were spot-on and made learning DaVinci Resolve feel so much easier. Thanks for creating such an excellent and approachable guide. Keep up the amazing work!
Can't thank you enough for sharing this DaVinci lesson for NOOBS. I was asked to shoot a school play in the spring and I'm not a videographer, at all. I'll probably watch this 10 times before the play.
I have been watching DaVinci Videos for weeks Changed from Pinnacle on Windows that I have used for years to Davinci on Apple. Double whammy. Picked up bits and pieces from other tutorials, but watched yours and sat down and made a usable video. Helped my mental state a lot.@@Daniel_Batal
I have watched 10+ video's on DaVinchi Resolve and how to use it and so far you are the only person that hasn't lost me with nonsense. Thank you for making a video new people can latch onto and excel from as new editors.
@@Daniel_Batal I was able to fully swap from Movavi over to DaVinchi today because of this video teaching me all the core concepts. I then extended on that having a baseline and after about 10 hours of messing with 2 minute clip and exporting it in various ways I’m on a roll and fast 🤘🏻 Thanks again man, my audience is small but I’m gonna recommend you to the editors in my chat using DaVinchi for sure 🤘🏻💪🏻
You are a superb teacher! Clear, concise, organized and to the point. This tutorial was demoed on a PC. I downloaded Davinci onto my Mac and followed click for click. How refreshing. No hassle! And, the bonus was that Davinci is a really great editor. Many thanks.
Well done Daniel. Just the right amount of detail, well organized. You even pointed out where most tutorials lose people with too much detail before depicting the whole flow. One issue: Your Tshirt is wrong. You are a rock star (at least as far as instructional videos)

Now you are in the right path. Glad you are here with us.
Thank you. I am looking to kick Filmora to the curb and this looks like a winner.
Something always wanted to learn this, would you mind if I started with a hopefully simple project and try create a lyrics version of your awesome rock 'n roll single I won't post it without your permission though but hopefully you allow me to. Massive thank you for the tutorial
OH, HELLS YEAH!
DANIEL since you made move to Davinci i started to see on other channels creators are also starting to switch to DaVinci .I only dont like very poor or lets say limited transition selection .I will tell you movavi is better .I havent seen Final cut pro as this is only available on mac

Nothing against anyone else that teaches DaVinci, but so far, you’re the only one I’ve watched that makes this complex subject and software digestible. Thank you for that
Hey thanks! I really appreciate the kind words ☮️
I totally agree with you
Agreed
Agreed. I only wish that you had done iPad tutorials before I switched to a Mac computer. Every program i encountered i felt i had to solve alone.
Hey thanks! I really appreciate that ☮️❤️
Fun fact: They are called "Film Bins" in a lot of programs because back when the old timers were editing the actual film, they would cut the shots out of the roll with a razor and hang them by the sprocket holes on hooks set up in a special rack.
Wow! Great info. I came from a world of 2” magnetic audio tape (before digital was a thing) so I know quite a bit about splicing and taping to edit.
I always think of how all this happened before digital.
PS: The icon for cut is a razor here instead of the scissors we are used to :)
Love learning about esoteric industry methods!
Can we all please watch something like the Wizard of Oz again and appreciate what those people created.
All fackz!!
First time watching this guy and I prefer MrAlexTech because he doesn't go in and out of showing his desktop
I cant thank you enough man! Seriously, the way you just jump into the necessary information is just so dang helpful when starting out
Awesome! Glad this was helpful.
And hey, thanks so much for the $15 SuperThanks! I really appreciate it! ☮️
After watching so many videos, Daniel in my opinion is the best, the way he explains things is super easy to understand and easy to follow, He has a gift, thanks bud.
Much appreciated, Jose!
You can say that again. The guy is good 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Daniel when you explain it, I feel like - I can do this.
Agree. Sometimes the best teacher is the person who knows just a little bit more than you do.
My pleasure!
Wait till you get to play around in Fusion.
It’s intimidating but once you get it, the possibilities are endless
You are the best teacher for beginners. Not overloading us with information. Just getting us comfortable and making the software seem so approachable. I think getting comfortable with a software is much more important then all the advance features. Once you are comfortable. Your curiousity takes over and you master the advance features so much faster .
Totally agree.
Well, with the second part, anyway. There are some great teachers out there like Casey Faris☮️
Rock On!
Hey thanks! I appreciate the kind words and I'm glad this was helpful
Pro tip!
Also, the paid version enables GPU acceleration for encoding, rather than the CPU - as used in the free version.

@@Daniel_Batal Hello Daniel; I am wondering if you do lessons on Microsoft Teams or Zoom for beginners to follow along. Thank you.
I do not.
As a fellow content creator that used/still using Filmora for the past 3 years. It's been really difficult trying to switch to different editing software that is as easy as Filmora. While the issues that Filmora have brought up recently made it quite unreliable. it really is one of the easiest UIs to understand. and so wanting to switch to a different software definitely proved it's challenges, I'm glad to find that you've been making tutorials for Davinci Resolve (a software I was introduced to months ago, but was a difficult switch as it seemed like a large learning curve)
Massive props to you, Daniel Batal. Hoping to learn more things from you in this new journey
Filmora definitely had a very smooth UI and learning curve. That's what drew a lot of people to using it.
I love hearing that! I’m really glad this made sense for you. ☮️❤️
Free version is faster than filmoras paid version
And doesn’t crash like Premiere
I've been thinking about switching from Filmora to Divinci Resolve. Daniel really helps with making that transition.
@@pennsylvaniaghostdiaries7552 I made the switch to Davinci when filmora tried to charge me for upgrades after I had purchased a lifetime license. My videos now look amazing.
True. Also, it doesn’t crash as Filmora. 😂
And better then after effects and premium pro like better than paid apps it's just god lvl editing software ngl
Incredible tutorial. Focused on the overall structure, explained the most important bits, added useful pointers and arrows and aced through it with 0 seconds wasted.
Thanks! I try to keep it on point as much as possible
This is hands down the best beginners tutorial I have seen! I’ve been working with DaVinci Resolve since October, fumbling my way around, and got down the basics I’ve needed. Wish I would’ve found this months ago. Very clear, with a helpful focus on a basic workflow.
Love hearing that. Thanks for the kind words and I'm pumped that this was helpful!
One of the best tutorials I've seen. Plus, the energy you bring into the process is infectious!
Wow, thank you!
@@Daniel_Batal you deserve it man. Very few people focus on explaining the terms, concepts, and you do it beautifully.
This dude is the best teacher. Simple, straight forward and keeps you from getting bogged down.
Which dude…?
Why are we talking about me in the third person 😜
So far, the free version has served me well. Davinci Resolve allows me to do all the basic stuff I need to breathe life into my videos. I'm not used to editing programs that have different pages. It was a minor adjustment, yet a welcomed one. I'm able to take several duplicate clips and make one compound clip which helps since my videos are an hour long (music playlist type stuff). It also helps me keep track of things because I get confused easily 😂
PS: tysm for showing us the "bin" feature.
I really wanted to make a simple video that was focused on someone who just wanted to learn how to get from import to export without feeling they needed a college degree to do so
@@Daniel_Batal Oh, I understand. That page was confusing for me after coming from other software.
I noticed that too.
I tried to keep it simple.
Should really be using "Folder" rather than "File" when you're talking about the Bins cos you're putting files IN there, like you do with a folder
15:29 Keyboard shortcut for that is BACKSPACE, DELETE will ripple cut, BACKSPACE will leave the other clips in place.
17:25 Most of the time I actually use "Smooth Cut", I think it's just a nicer look for a transition, I usually make it quite short too though.
19:29 The little diamonds to the left of the undo/reset are your keyframes, so if you're doing a gradual zoom change for example, you would set your first zoom level, click the keyframe ◇ then go to the end of the zoom, change the zoom level and click ◇ again, now you have a gradual zoom change, BEAR IN MIND, once the playback marker goes past your final keyframe, whatever value you changed (zoom, position, etc) will stay at your last keyframe level, You can do the same for the other changes, like rotation/position/etc
30:27 This is where you can get into using "proxies" which are basically a lower quality version of your clips just for playback during editing, it doesn't affect the overall export.
I am seeking to know the basics BEFORE anything else and want to use the K.I.S.S. method.

2. How to bring in my media.
3. Enter it in the time line.

6. Transitions if wanted/needed.

@Soaring Vision Images I can do both, I just wish DR was more efficient as I use screenshots a lot.
@Soaring Vision Images good idea, if I can ever successfully complete an export I'll do it.
Pro tip! What’s the pixelation ratio for each?
@@Daniel_Batal Don't know the techy stuff, do know that the "Size" control on the Text tab works as though the text is a vector so smoothy resizes, where as the "Settings" zoom control is effectively zooming on a rasterised image, hence the degradation at higher zooms
Mind blown. So this is why text always looks bad in my projects! I knew it was something I was doing wrong, but could never articulate it enough to ask. Thanks!

@@Dmitriy.0 The free version is limited, the paid version has a lot more codec support I think.
Fair warning: This channel will never be a “DaVinci Resolve” channel.
Welcome aboard! And thanks for the kind words ☮️❤️
You are a great teacher, it was smooth, useful and with details. I loved how you point it out with arrows, also when you used zoom to show the parts that you were refering to. Thanks a lot!!
You're very welcome!
Great job explaining! Very helpful...I"ve been using Resolve for a while now and still was able to learn from this. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Daniel, this is the best noob-friendly tutorial I've watched. Great delivery, terminology and explanations.....very systematic and logical walkthrough that gives just enough info so I can learn on my own. Many thanks!
Agree! I've been using the software for years and still learned so much from Daniel in this vid!
Thank you!
Glad I could help!
This has to be the most straight forward video I've ever seen on DaVinci! So much so that a friend of mine just got into editing and I instantly sent him your way. CHEERS!!
Much appreciated!
Daniel, Thank you. I was really getting discouraged with most of the beginner tutorials. Watching this one made a big difference.
Love hearing that.
Glad this was helpful, Max!
Thank you so much for the simplicity. Videos like like this help encourage folks like me to get started and not lose interest.
Great to hear!
Again,
Thank you,
Jeff
Glad this was helpful, Jeff!
Thanks. I just learned about this and will be attempting my first project which will be a re-edit of an earlier project done with other software that I was not happy with. You are a good teacher.
Good luck with your second edit.
I’ve been there myself, and I know it can be a real pain in the butt sometimes
You did a fine job with this. Cut right through a number of things that were hanging me up. It's refreshing to get such straightforward help. Thanks.
Hey thanks, Maurice!
Glad this made sense for you ☮️
Wow, glad I found you.
Right on! There definitely are more on my channel. Hope they are equally as useful for you
Daniel, I have to say, you have a genuine talent for mentorship and training.
I appreciate that!
You're a great teacher. Humble, clear, and a talented simplifying communicator.
Wow, thank you!
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. I am just starting with screen recording and editing and this is the most helpful video i have found. I just want to start with the basics and build from there. The pace is clear and not garbled.
Glad this was helpful!
Awesome simple overview!!. After watching this anyone can get started and not get confused with all the more intricate peices of DR!
Hi Daniel
I'm moving from iMovie to DaVR.
Thank you
I appreciate that!
I just want to say "thank you" for actually making a beginner friendly tutorial 😊 some of the other "for beginners" videos I've seen, where way too technical and as you mentioned they where trying to show all the advanced options that are very unnecessary and confusing.. so thanks, now I can actually get started ❤
I love hearing that! I’m really glad this made sense for you. ☮️❤️
Great presentation. I really appreciate the 'ignore the fiddly bits until later' approach. I made my first two You Tube videos with 'Ice Cream' video editor and find I need something with a bit more 'poke' - hence the switch to Resolve. Couldn't have done it without you!
"fiddly bits' 😆
WOW I did not hear you say you were a noob and watched the whole thing and you GOT it. Everything spot on and the right overview and level of detail for noobs - including some appropriate momentary excursions into some important higher end points for context or understanding. Thanks - am passing this to some super noob friends with a really good feeling!
Sweet. Glad this was helpful!
Hey Daniel 👋
Just wanted to let you know that I watched the long form video via this short. So you know its working. Keep them coming 😊
👊😎☮️
I have watched a lot of videos on this subject. I wish that I had found you sooner! You have helped me more in this one video than all of the others combined! Thanks so much!
Love hearing that! I'm the biggest Noob out there. We need to stick together 😁
Thank you for breaking this down into more digestible bits! I'm new to video editing at this granular level and this helped so much!
Awesome! Glad this made sense for you!
This video is a lifesaver for beginners! Your explanations were spot-on and made learning DaVinci Resolve feel so much easier. Thanks for creating such an excellent and approachable guide. Keep up the amazing work!
Hey thanks, Ahmed! Will do 👊😎☮️
Can't thank you enough for sharing this DaVinci lesson for NOOBS. I was asked to shoot a school play in the spring and I'm not a videographer, at all. I'll probably watch this 10 times before the play.
Glad this was useful!
Laconic tutorial. That's what I need. I totaly hate when I got spammed by unnecessary information of each button. LIKE!
Best intro video I have found. Tells me how to get started and make a video, not what every setting does, I'll earn that down the road. Great Job!
Hey thanks! That was the goal.
I’m glad this made sense for you
I have been watching DaVinci Videos for weeks Changed from Pinnacle on Windows that I have used for years to Davinci on Apple.
Great to hear!
@@Daniel_Batal I was able to fully swap from Movavi over to DaVinchi today because of this video teaching me all the core concepts. I then extended on that having a baseline and after about 10 hours of messing with 2 minute clip and exporting it in various ways I’m on a roll and fast 🤘🏻
Thanks again man, my audience is small but I’m gonna recommend you to the editors in my chat using DaVinchi for sure 🤘🏻💪🏻
You are a superb teacher! Clear, concise, organized and to the point. This tutorial was demoed on a PC. I downloaded Davinci onto my Mac and followed click for click. How refreshing. No hassle! And, the bonus was that Davinci is a really great editor. Many thanks.
Glad to help!
Man, I really liked your teaching. Clean and straightforward explanation.
Straight to the point. Congratulations! Keep up the great work!
Hey thanks! I really appreciate that ☮️❤️
Thank you! This just makes sense, it let me jump in and start editing without frustration. You taught me exactly what I needed to know to start.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that ☮️❤️
You are the best I watch many video on this you explain and make it simple easy to understand..
Well done Daniel. Just the right amount of detail, well organized. You even pointed out where most tutorials lose people with too much detail before depicting the whole flow. One issue: Your Tshirt is wrong. You are a rock star (at least as far as instructional videos)
😜 #NotaRockStar
