Really enjoyed seeing a different kind of animal I’ve never really been around iguanas but that was amazing and very entertaining thank you for bringing it❤️
I was 18 years old and auditioned my dog for this segment but was ultimately not chosen from acts flown in for the day. They put me up at the Essex house and picked me up at the airport in a limo. Dave walked through while things were going on and pet my dog and said “hey there puppy dog” I remember the band oasis was on the show but can not remember who the guest was on the show.
our friends have a cabin with a loft in the UP of MI. Their bedroom was in the upper loft. They had a beagle and a lab...and they both climbed the ladder to that loft. Not hard at all.
That is a Very Good Pet Trick, but I really think the Dog's Owner went too far, that is the ladder was too Long and too High. It was too Hard for that poor Dog to Hold the can of Pop that Long. I would like to See whether her Owner would manage to holf the can that Long. David Letterman should sometimes have put some Pet Owners to the same Test.

When the cat got too close the Guana would spin around to cut the cat with its sharp tail, but the cat would spring up, into the air. Her Guana would come over to you when it was about to relieve itself and l would tell her to quick get some newspaper under him. This was its way of telling you it would need food now.
I was scared for the dog bc u could tell it was nervous, all the people yelling, live band playing, lights and sounds. I wouldnt put my dog through that unless he was accustomed to performing
In my late teens i had a lot of stoner friends, i still remember my friend saying , darn i wish my brother wasn't in the navy he can stick a hamster up his rear end. We laughed.10 minutes went by and my high friend said i doubt they would let him perform that trick on tv.haha
This was peak Letterman in the late 80's, actually even funnier/improvising than Carson. The 'book lady', 'Gruff but lovable Gus' (the forklift guy) and always hillarious Larry (Bud) Melman, and other stuff, I was never bored. Robert at 69.
I replied earlier but came back because I saw Someone else posted that it's a wonder Dave didn't get bit because of the way he was being rough with the dog going in like he was some long lost friend then I tried to continue with my post but couldn't it was gone hold on to people done and replied but that without a doubt is my brother-in-law He thinks our dog shouldn't should not thank but listen to his every command because hes human and hes a love dog he just doesn't realize hes not our dog packs leader so eat listening to my brother-in-law a bit!!!
There are different iguanas that have varying diets. Some are carnivores, some are herbivores. Same as geckos. Mine is carnivorous. She's 18 and has been eating crickets her entire life!
The real asshole was piggy’s owner, subjecting his dog to a trick in a totally new environment. His tail tucked between his legs at the end, terrified.

Agreed. The dogs especially are giving nervous avoidant body language and he is up in their face with high energy and a raised voice. I wouldn't have been surprised if he got bit.
It’s cruel to teach a dog the ladder trick. The dog doesn’t want to be climbing a ladder on the show or anywhere. The owner even said it took 5 years to teach him. It’s hard for dogs to cling a ladder and the dogs know they can fall. It’s scary for them. A lot of animals are mistreated/abused when someone is trying to get an animal to do a trick that is unnatural for them.
Most definitely! Even when they've told people that they must be quiet, they still scream like maniacs! I think they really just want to show off. And a lot of the time Dave encourages it. 😖😡
He comes up behind dogs he doesn’t know, heavily wiping his hands all over their fur, and talks loudly right in their faces. So weird. I think dogs probably feel like Dave is the old creepy guy in the van. I can’t believe that over so many years touching dogs wrong, David never got his face chewed off. I wonder if it’s just that nobody ever told him that most of these dogs cringe when he touches them.
Its never once been funny when hosts try to be funny with an animal, the lights and noise from crowd is so chaotic especially for the dogs. And then they expect them to perform on cue.
Poor Piggy! I would be terrified climbing that height but having to do it over a screeching mob with a tin can in my mouth- Out of the question. Did any animal welfare groups ever try to stop this sh!t?? I watched Dave back when he started out on a morning show. He and Edie McClurg : That was some of the funniest television I ever watched. I did not know he spent years allowing pet owners to exploit their animals. That is disgusting.
What happens when they don't perform what they r expected to? Are they mistreated by their owners? If that happens, it is animal cruelty. Hope so such things don't happen....and show organizers do ensure that before performers are called.

people feed iguanas bugs and stuff but it kills them gradually. no iguana eats bugs or meat of any kind in the wild
