What is Christmas Coffee? A Norwegian Winter Tradition

- In Norway, winter has come and the Christmas season is starting. The Christmas market is open, with all its festive stalls. And, like every year, the norwegians are looking for "Christmas Coffee". Every coffee roastery offers their own version of it and you can find it on the shelves of every coffee shop in town. But what is it exactly ? What make Christmas Coffee different ? What do people expect it to be ? Everybody is talking about it, but nobody really knows what it is. This is the mystery we tried to solve by asking various people. Meet roasters, baristas, and other coffee enthusiasts innterviewed in the streets of Trondheim to find out what the norwegian tradition of "Julekaffe" is all about.

Funnily enough Lina and I went out to our favourite roastery last week for Xmas Coffee. Heavy on the chocolate accent with a hint of nuttiness. Not my usual, fruity choice.
I remember my grandfather enjoying any coffee with a shot of whisky in it at Xmas. I can see his face now.
There are dome strange brews in some of the chains over here that resemble dessert more than coffee, but we are all different.
For me coffee is special all year, the company I drink it with can elevate it above normal.
We need to drink a cup on the same road one day!

There is some great specialty Canephora on the market, the flavour profile of Canephoras matches well with Christmas spices and sweet things.
Bit late in the day but , Hi Marion hi Ken', for myself (and all other Forces Veterans and current serving personal of the Servics of the UK) Christmas coffee , as well as tea was served on christmas day morning by our Officers to all lower ranks as a wake up call, whilst still in their beds. It was named "Gunshot" the most had Rum in it but Scots could opt for having Whisky in istead.
This tradition, (which comes from our Navy) goes back hundreds of years.

Haven't noticed festive specialty coffees for Christmas here. But it's great to see Norway's in full Christmas coffee mode! Marion looked very festive with her 20 layers of clothing! Merry Christmas to you both!🎉🎉

I'm tempted to become a coffee roaster just so I can introduce Christmas coffee to Australia ☕. Although it doesn't really scream 'summer drink' for us down under 😅🤣.
