Not sure about the hydraulics required, but I have seen a few guys use a cable and pully system utilizing the stroke of the splitter ram, It worked well with no additional hydro.
Bill the first thing i would do is remove the leg in the front and put a crank up down leg on it to much trouble when moving it the way it is set up now .Either one with a foot or a wheel .
