I had intentions of building a lift probably 30 years ago but decided to split small stuff first and stack up a "ramp" to roll big ones up. It has served me well, at 65 years old, I can still get a 30 inch round up on the beam.
Very kool lift build! Huge back saver from having to split in the vertical position. Always hurts my back in vertical. This is a way better way to split those big rounds.
Exactly! Vertical splitting was always rough on me. Picking up rounds I shouldn’t took less toll on me that splitting vertical did. This lift helped me with splitting stuff I would otherwise leave to rot. Thanks for watching!
I would extend the foot about 6 more inches and add a "wing" to the outside for a bit more stability with those larger rounds. Great job. Was planning to build a "side loader" but this "front loader" is much more simple and doesn't require all the pulley's and retention spring required for the side loader. I like the way you engineered the spring loaded stop as well.
I like your design of having the lift table parallel with the splitter rail opposed to a right angle like I've seen on others. One thing I would change would be a automatic latch on the table. Once the chain pulls it up, the latch pin falls into place holding it. A simple ramp and latch system. The chain ideal is unique. I was thinking cable but cables eventually get twisted and knotted. I was planning a design using the splitters hydraulic system, however this design is simple and less expensive. Thanks
I’ve been watching videos on log lifts for a couple days now. I’m getting too old to lift them, and I just got a bunch of huge maple rounds and I have to make something to get them up on the splitter. Even though my huge home made splitter can do vertical, it is hard on the back doing it like that. You did a great job on yours. Simple but it works. I really like the way you did it. I had a few ideas but would have taken me much longer. So thanks and good luck with your channel. ✌️👍🇺🇸
Your statement is exactly the reason for the lift. The splitter in vertical would wear me out faster than picking up rounds I shouldn’t be lifting. Thanks for watching!
Such a great idea... multifunction. working smart Nauvoo! Most of my splitting is done alone and i considered your lift table design. I ended up looking into the Gorillabac 3803 log lift that drags the wood to my splitter, lifts it and holds it when splitting. Got one and would never go to anything else. Really lets me get wood up that I could not do before. The prime big wood and gnarly stuff that doesnt roll is easy to get and split. It fits on my old Dirty Hands 20ton and sons County Line 34 ton looks like it will fit most any horizontal vertical splitters. Really affordable and easy to install. Plus Made in the USA too.
Great Idea using the Cylinder power on the return stroke to eliminate adding a second valve and hoses. I like the Idea of parallel design instead of the right angle lift for moving splitter on the road for friends. The two holes for a fender add on seems too light and may be an issue in the future. I have the same brand but in the 27 ton. I have been splitting wood since I was 10 helping my dad now I am 71 and still cutting trees and splitting fire wood. Currently cleaning up some large oaks and hickory trees at my sisters home storm damaged.
G day mate, very good idea, have the same splinter only bigger ,have done the same idea but mine runs on Cable, lifts very big rounds of Australian hard work here in western Australia, will send you some pictures of my build well done regards David chalk western Australia
My load of rounds had sizes 3 feet in diameter. I was wishing I had a tractor with a bucket, or a lifter of some sort. I ended up putting the tongue on the ground and found I could easily roll the round into the jaws. I also found I could sit on a round with a cushion and work with my shoulders instead of my back. I have been doing it for 4 years and a 88, I can do another year. Iguana
Well done, I like it. If I needed to add a log lift to my Countyline splitter, this is probably the one I would copy it from, but I just try to avoid rounds that are too heavy for me to pick up. 🙃
I have the same splitter and just move it to the vertical position and split those larger rounds in half or quarter. Then back to horizontal to split them to the size I need. Looks like a good alternative though.
I had done that in the past but, in the vertical position, it was always harder on my back. This has definitely made it easier for me. Thanks for watching!
What I found worked well for big rounds was took some scrap 2x4 and 2x6 and made it when you flip splitter up it went around bottom and log wouldn't try to fall to the side
I never liked putting my splitter in the vertical position. It always seemed to make my back hurt more trying to use it that way to split. With the log lift I put on the splitter, it has to stay hooked to something at the hitch or it will tip up.
@@nauvooacres ok I understand the back hurting.with it in vertical position I think what was the worst for me was it always the log trying to tip helped a lot with platform. I do like the lift and your videos
I find it easier to use my splitter in the vertical position. Just roll the rounds next to the foot plate then flip it up and start splitting. It's a sit down job too.
For me, it hurts my back more doing it that way. I like the horizontal position and just needed an easier way to get them up there. Thanks for watching.
I’d rather people build their own. Nothing more satisfying than making something with your hands. Eventually I will sell this splitter once I build a vertical setup.
It’s something with being bent over and moving the pieces around for each split. Most high end horizontal splitters have lifts. Sorry it doesn’t make sense, it’s to each their own. I found value in the lift, and posted the build for anyone else who does.
You are aware of that you're splitter has a pin that you can pull and it flips up so you can just split those right on the ground You don't even have to lift them.
I am aware of the vertical position of the splitter. I never liked using it that way, and it is hard on my back. This method seems to be easier on my back all the times I have done it. Thanks for watching!
It was always easier on my back to have it horizontal. I used to set the rounds on the splitter with my grapple on the tractor. This was just a solution to make it easier. Thanks for watching!
so you bust your ass to lift it up and then you split it and it fall on the ground and then you have to keep picking up the stuff you need to split..make's no sense. i do it on the ground . welded bigger foot and welded to make wider wedge works like a champ.
Thanks for the feedback. The splitter in the vertical position kills my back within minutes. While this doesn’t seem any easier, for me personally, it is a lot easier. Thanks for watching.

That’s not a bad idea. I do less splitting these days just focus on logs to run through the processor. The big big rounds will just pile up for now.
I've been looking for an easy to make log lift for months. I think this design is it. Thanks!
It has certainly been a back saver for the big rounds. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, I have the same log splitter sold in Australia under a different brand name, Mines a 28T but this has given me a different idea.
That’s why I made the video. Thanks for watching!

Foot definitely would benefit from an extension for the bigger rounds. Front loading made it much simpler and gets the job done. Thanks for watching!
Very nice work my friend! I really like the design.

Fantastic idea well done! I had some hydraulic cylinders laying around so I’m going that route but if I didn’t this would have worked perfectly

Nice. Good job. A gard over the engine might save you a lot of trouble. Great design though 👌
Is the audio OK on this video? I am hearing impaired, but can feel bass. Great video though.
I like the idea of using cly to do the lifting and not other valve and cly
It did make it simple, vs adding more hydraulics.

Do you have plans or build list?
Sorry, I do not. I just built it off the top of my head with stuff I had laying around. Thank you for watching.
what thickness tubing did you use?
The square tubing was 1/8” wall, 3/4” square.
Why go through all that when you can just split vertical?
I don’t like splitting vertical. I have more back issues trying to move the logs around and into position. Mostly a personal preference.
@@nauvooacres You still have to move the logs around to get to the lift, you make no sense.
