  • THIS IS PART TWO (2)
Metropolitan Petros of Astoria (1915-1997) was the founder of St. Markella’s Cathedral in Astoria, New York, and is considered the founder of Traditionalist Greek Orthodox Christianity, and monasticism in America.
In his lifetime, he was a member of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece as an Archimandrite, then fell in with a group of vagante pseudo-Old Calendarists, and was taken in by the Metropolia (forerunner of the Orthodox Church in America [OCA]), was consecrated a bishop by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, and became a member of the Synod of Bishops of the Church of the GOC of Greece.
During his forty-seven years in America (thirty-five years as bishop,) he founded and pastored St. Markella’s Cathedral, and oversaw other parishes in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Florida, and Montreal. He remained firmly at the helm of the diocese until his final days. He is therefore of great interest to those concerned with genuine Orthodox Christianity, and to those interested in the building of a Greek Orthodox parish from scratch in an immigrant community, and who have an interest in Greek Old Calendarist relations with the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR), among other things.

@@GreekOrthodoxTV Has it been fragrant? I would like to hear about some miracles associated with such a holy confessor! Answering the calendar question (Easter formula, miracles of the holy light (including the splitting of the Holy Pillar by the Holy Fire, the 3rd Appearance of the Holy Cross in the Sky (of 1925), and some unrelated miracles such as by St. Theodora of the Peloponnese (whose holy water remains fresh even after 6 months) all convinced me of the unique Truth of True Orthodoxy. I was living and working in Greece at the time, and was baptised in a church dedicated to St. Mark of Ephesus in 1994, leaving the Romanist Papist heresy!

@@GreekOrthodoxTV I have done so, thanks. I enjoyed watching it. I´ve been doing my best to denounce our persecution as True Orthodox Christians (aka Genuine Orthodox Christians), largely as an individual, to the United Nations, etc. But, I´ll write more, separately, on that, when time allows.

Hi Luci, I am not greek as well and I don’t understand greek. I am Bulgarian and in the chapel in the ground level of St Markela we have Russian priest that serves in Church Slavonic which I get. When the services are upstairs for all on the big celebrations we have books with translation from greek to Church Slavonic so we understand and pray with the Greeks. Probably look for this translation book of the service. Left page in greek(in your case will be with English letters) and left side should be English. In my case Church Slavonic. It’s very helpful! I learned so much from the Greek service this way! The Bible is being read in 3 languages most of the time. Greek, Church Slavonic and English. All priests know English in case you want to go to confession. You should be fine!

Ask them this then why will they not declare The mysteries of the New Calendar church without grace , they will not declare , and they have been known to give communion to people belonging to the New Calendar, i will actually be suprised if they do not delete this comment, this Anastasius hudson who defends this Snynod does not like free discussion about who are really the Genuine Orthodox who had bishops in Greece before they got their bishops from disobedience ROCOR bishops.

@@jeffdutcher3676 Anastasios Hudson here. I don't have anything to do with this channel, so I can't delete any comments, nor would I. I don't know where you get the idea that I don't like free discussion, when I have set up and/or participated in numerous forums, blogs, and discussions online and in person over the years, where diverse views are discussed.
Of course I support and defend my Synod. Otherwise, I wouldn't be a part of it...but I am also aware there have been mistakes made in the past, etc.; after all, we are all human beings struggling for salvation and being tempted all the time. It is only by God's grace that the True Church exists, thanks to Our Savior's promise.
Metropolitan Petros did not declare the New Calendar bishops without grace, something I go into detail in my book on the subject; suffice it to say that I hold to the position of our Holy Synod that Ecumenism is a heresy and those who are part of Ecumenism are without grace. I don't know why you bear false witness. That's the official position of our Church, plain and simple.
As for giving communion to New Calendarists, I have addressed this multiple times in multiple places, but basically, Metropolitan Petros's practice of converting New Calendarists without chrismating them was a logical position for the 1970's immigrant community he ministered in in Astoria, NY, but it was not sanctioned by the Holy Synod and is no longer the practice of our Eparchy in America.
I hope that clarifies things for you.

@@AnastasiosHudson we have taken down the HI DEF version of this program due to technical issues related to quality of the playback. In the interests of fairness and open dialogue we have copied and pasted comments made to that program by Jeff Dutcher before we deleted the program. They are pasted here:
      Jeff Dutcher wrote:
"Why do you consider St. John of San Francisco a saint? He actually permitted use of the New Calendar in churches of his jurisdiction.
"Also that clandestine midnight concentration should be a huge bright red flag 🚩 for any one when it was concealed from the rest of The ROCOR Bishops , considering they were not disclosing there were already Bishops in Greece established in 1948..
"Why have you censored the truth about how St Matthew the new confessor never wavered in his confession of the faith . You should take a very hard look from where your Synod comes from .Kalliniktes have commited the sin of Apostasy by accepting protection of the law 4301 / 2014 in past 4years and have accepted the title heterodox and other religions. May God help you to search for him and his church.
