  • Metropolitan Petros of Astoria (1915-1997) was the founder of St. Markella’s Cathedral in Astoria, New York, and is considered the founder of Traditionalist Greek Orthodox Christianity, and monasticism in America.
In his lifetime, he was a member of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece as an Archimandrite, then fell in with a group of vagante pseudo-Old Calendarists, and was taken in by the Metropolia (forerunner of the Orthodox Church in America [OCA]), was consecrated a bishop by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, and became a member of the Synod of Bishops of the Church of the GOC of Greece.
During his forty-seven years in America (thirty-five years as bishop,) he founded and pastored St. Markella’s Cathedral, and oversaw other parishes in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Florida, and Montreal. He remained firmly at the helm of the diocese until his final days. He is therefore of great interest to those concerned with genuine Orthodox Christianity, and to those interested in the building of a Greek Orthodox parish from scratch in an immigrant community, and who have an interest in Greek Old Calendarist relations with the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR), among other things.
This is PART ONE, "The Early Days of the Struggle - From Chios to the Holy Mountain".

Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. I feel so blessed and grateful right now. I never understood the Calendar issues. I converted to the Eastern Orthodox Church in 1996. It was in an OCA parish.

Disgraceful how people treat people although the people who are being treated badly are good people. All in the name of God they say. Treating others badly is not what God is about. It is a shame when alleged Church leaders cannot live in Christ but say they do.

So great to see all the footage and to know the stories. I went to St. Markella for the first time this past weekend. Back in February I went to Liturgy at St. John's Baptist bc it looked so interesting, funny seeing some of its history here, love those black and white photos of all the brothers from the Holy Mountain!

@@GreekOrthodoxTV the one in the documentary on 17th street Irvington Place etc. beautiful old world iconostasis! I framed St. Xenia from her icon on the bulletin that day. lol. I can’t believe Metropolitan Petros served there as his first mission. The GOC should have that church.

Καταπληκτικό ταξίδι για τον Μητροπολίτη Πέτρο. Μου άρεσε πραγματικά να παρακολουθώ αυτό και δεν μπορώ να περιμένω το δεύτερο μισό αυτού του προγράμματος.

See 17:49-18:00+ Holy New Martyr Aikaterina Routtis, St. Katherine of Mandra, near Attica, Greece - I have applied to the authorities to have the old property I live in in Portugal 17:49 to be named officially after her, at a cost of €15, ironically on the police register. As the property was built well before 1940 (about 1910) I don't require planning permission for any change of use, such as to change the use of a room on the inside into a chapel.

How was the change in calendars justified?

By the use of sophistry, semantics, mental gymnastics.

Why wasn’t Meletios Metaxakis deposed and excommunicated from the church?

    • @GreekOrthodoxTV

Because he was a Freemason. Freemasons rule the Ecumenist jurisdictions. All of them.

What an experience but those beings assaults if not the priests or monks. Those beings attack and harassed human of all kinds. They do not discriminate religion. Man woman of children the most vulnerable. The old and the young rich or poor. I had a experience I live in New Jersey USA sleeping when voices a woman and an a man having a conversation and I know who were them. I touch my sheet and told them, spirits let me sleep. Huge mistake because you do not challenged them in lest a second something that I can not see attack me, hold my hands I wants to scream but no words I think in God because the being was pushing my head and I was struggling because was punching my neck like wants to break it. I feel like somebody may me sleep and I awake in the morning I should to see my wrists but I do wants see nothing. My daughter and my neighbor came to see me and they bought some plant the natives Americans used to expell any negative beings or ghosts. I cleaning my apartment with the plants and prayers. God bless me I do not have any experience. My point is does not challenge it only pray and call father, son and Holy Ghost. Praise the Lord. I believe that Christ protect me or something came to my rescue or maybe was benevolent and wants to call me respect the supernatural good or bad because if they wants to break my neck they will done it.😱🥰☦️✝️

Very upsetting but God will punish anyone who goes against the pure truth. All of them who went against the old calendrist will pay for it. The ones who pushed Greece into this will not rest and will perish so bad no one can comprehend the horror of eternal torture.
I rather die for my faith and be free from this evil in this world. May God forgive me and arrange me to be re babtised into the righteous people!!!!
