Hi Kurtis! Great job... Nice to see! You do it very professional with lot's of experiance... Upgrade... You're a mining - equipment - TUNER! 😎 ... The Helikopter on the grass... Who's the pilote? Karen, Homie? (because you are 24/7 at the shop floor, right?) Is it for "XTRA - FAST - DELIVERY"? 😙 🤔 😁 👍
Hello Kurtis from a warm and sunny South Africa. As a learner-welder I truly enjoy videos of guys welding with top notch finishing...you rank amongst the top in my books. I dream of being able to weld the way you do. And of cause the other highlight of your videos is when the safety officer🐶 gets gifts....he is almost human like when he cant wait to get his gifts😂. Wish the two pitbulls I have were so disciplined....mine are just rascals
Hi Curtis, this is your French friend living in Massachusetts USA. For some reasons this vid is probably my favorite of all. I’m always impressed by all the stuff you use and every types of things you can repair or even build. Question: when you weld, I never see you hardening the metal after. But, tell if I am wrong, welding makes the metal not hard anymore right? Then it’s less resistant, is it correct?
I always extremely impressed in that you rarely just fix an item you've been given, you are nearly always adding a upgrade that will prolong the life, increase the performance, or extend the service interval of that item so that the customer always gets back something that is better than it was when new. The way you run your business is incredible and the service you provide is top notch.
@@wuudturner Ohhh!!! This is why he gets paid so much (in toys and treats) I didn't think he should be getting paid that much for just Safety Officer Duties although he is good at his job of course :) 🐶🐶🐶🦴🦴🦴
For me, this channel really works for a few reasons - the content is always about real engineering, there is skill and humour in abundance and the quality of production on the videos is excellent. That’ll do just fine! Thanks both. 🏴
It still fascinates me watching this process. I’m 51 years old and grew up farming, and I’ve seen my share of machining and welding, but it never occurred to me that line boring and welding could be done in this manner. That Italian machine is amazing.
I agree. Somebody did a great job in figuring out how to build a portable combination line boring and welding machine, that was light, but robust enough to do some heavy duty work.
A man answered an ad that read, “Hiring welders $18-$24 per hour.” When he arrived he was told he’d have to take a welding test. He turned in 2 sets of welds. One was a great weld, the other was a mess. When the boss asked him why he did this, he replied, “One is $18/hr, the other is $24/hr.”

This is why I watch - to learn something! Oh and of course the four-footed shop floor assistant is great!! Camera work, lighting and editing are awesome. Had a problem this morning, yourselves and I C Weld dropped videos at the same time. Went with you guys first and I wasn't disappointed. That is a well thought out modification and with a 6 year plus lifetime sounds economical. Thanks for taking the time to film this.
Kurtis you are a true artist when it comes to these repairs, your all round skills have very high competence , your welding in some of the awkward places you have to get into is second to none mate. Great content and wonderful videography and editing from Karen gives us an all round fantastic episode yet again. I just love watching this channel!
Hi Kurtis and Karen, as always Friday -CEE is the first thing with coffee in the morning. Your work is something to watch, the machining #1, video editing #1 and the out takes are always hilarious and make the beginning of my day with smile. The times we are living in are disaster and your work make us forget, at least for little while the garbage that they are throwing at working people. Have a nice weekend and Homey's happiness show the harmony, God bless.
Dear Karen, really enjoy the fast cut editing in the first of the video [8 minutes at least, all I have seen up to this point] a new style for you? It works great for this old geezer, my birthday was Friday, 69 and still working at welding and what not....I still feel you are a natural at shooting and editing......a real 'Shining Light'. give my best wishes, to Kurtis and of Course, Homeless.....cheers from the other Sunshine Sate, Florida.....Paul
Another great episode. Really enjoy that you explain the work in detail so we engineering neophytes can learn. Quick question: Homeless & Kurtis appear to get new toys on each episode but what about Karen? Not too late for a Christmas wishlist. 🎄🤶🏻🎁
She might get a lathe or milling machine ! I got my wife got a Bridgeport for our anniversary several years back , now i think she want's a horizontal boring machine !!!
@@swanvalleymachineshop Good idea. My good lady is getting some new brake pads for the Superduke and a rear tyre for the Guzzi. Well they wouldn't wear out so fast if she wasn't on the back!
Excellent quality work here, and the editing was off the charts. I love how setting up the line borer was edited to just the 2-sec clip of the components being assembled and removed, very nice touch there, and the filtered blue spectrum of the welding close-ups. Simply superb, thank you, Jim.
I am very impressed that you can handle everything. The amount of tools you own seems to be endless. I did not know that such tools even exist. Amazing
Fantastic work as always ! I am blown away by the fact that you lined it up for final fitment with a ratchet strap and a forklift. For a bearing fit ! Bloody impressive.
That is a lot of set-up and fixtures...... Enjoy watching the set-up and check and recheck of cutting. Enjoy Kirtus explaining what he is doing, even the repeats. Great videoing and editing, always tells the story very well.
That was a very good fix Kurt, better than brand new---so many times I have bought a new machine and turned it into the workshop to alter things before it went into the paddock..Its pathetic but if it keeps you in work so thats good.....
it's so awesome seeing the process of repairs on huge excavator buckets and then hear curtis explain why what he did is a better solution than the factory one. absolutely fantastic video and very educational!
Beautiful work Kurtis ... and as per usual Homeless and Karen's editing rocks!!! Nice work! As a team I reckon you'll be pass 300k subscribers soon... impressive as when I subbed you had less than 5k and that was NOT long ago!
Been watching and enjoying all. Professionalism in action. I worked with three engineers/machinest in my teens. All there work was aerospace related. I want to commend the video and editing work. It is spot on. Thank for all the content. Jon from southern California/New Orleans.🎉
The wear and problems are growing exponentially with width of the bucket. 🙄 I'm long term borrowing the idea and doing that to our 3.5m tilter this winter. We bored and replaced bushes and shims 2 times in 7 years of using it and is due for another. Cheers 🍻 and thanks for allowing us into your shop.
That’s some fancy equipment. You can have the best equipment there is, If you don’t set it up correctly or don’t know WTF your doing, the job will not come out good. You did an excellent job. Thanks for the video, I learn every time I watch.
Your experience is impressive! The welds look amazing, like they're painted on with metal. FUN. That little boring/welding machine really works for a living!
I about cried when you grounded the final weld. Yet I understand why you did. Another great video y’all. You both are amazing and I can’t call it a Friday without watching CEE.
What I appreciate is the lack of continuous prattle that some presenters think necessary to get the message across. Your concise descriptions are all that is needed.
i couldn't talk that much and Karen still have her sanity from all the editing she would have to do 😂😂😂 but i much prefer to just get in and get it done 😎👍
I am amazed at how this turned out. I can't fault the results, but I am a little surprised plugging the lock bolt holes with weld was done after the bores were done and the bushes installed. I would be inclined to weld those up before the boring was done. What am I missing? Thanks for sharing these videos, it helps me plan and execute my rumblings in the shop.
24:00 THE NEW TOOL HOLDER ! THE NEW TOOL HOLDER !! 25:40 the OLD Toolholder ?????? Love to know why the switch? Once again Kurtis, you make a technical repair look just like another everyday occurrence ! Great Work ! Your customers, are lucky people !
I keep forgetting to guess your 2 new to you machines... I've given it some thought and a horizontal boring machine is guess 1... guess 2 is a larger stroke length honing machine. A HBM would certainly make some of your line boring easier, and the honing machine because the only time i've really seen you delayed (apart from covid preventing shipping and supply) was when the stroke of your amazing boring machine wasn't enough.. great channel and videos keep up the great work you two!
Great vid as always - thanks. Somehow my original comment did not show up - so here is hoping that this one does. Good to see the new tool post making its first appearance being used on a job - it really looks the part - very impressive. All the best from the UK, Paul
I enjoy the commentary, it does help understand the reasoning and process, thanks. And if I kicked a bush from other end of shop, I would play for Brisbane.
I absolutely love your content. I am consistently impressed with your welding skills. I was blown away by how perfectly you laid down the weld on the grease caps: the proverbial "stack of dimes." How long have you been welding? I also noticed an appearance by your new Quick Change Tool Holder. How is that working out for you?
Kurtis is a skilled man...no question. But welding heavy steel plate on a welding positioner with MIG is about as easy as welding gets. At the complete opposite end of this you would have something like 1mm Aluminium TIG welded with full penetration to X-ray QC.
I NOTICE SOMETHING ABOUT YOU,YOU ARE A SMART MAN.BECAUSE YOU WORK ALONE YOU DO NOT DO ANY HEAVY LIFTING,YOU DO NOT TAKE ANY RISK OF GETTING HURT AND NOT BEING ABLE TO WORK..SMART.
Oh how I love to sit on my retired butt and watch this line bar work. It is the best unit I have ever seen. That was really neat watching the bushing go from it's super cold state to the warmth of the bucket. Your girl really has a knack for taking and editing video footage. Sweet job my friend. It sure is a great feeling when we take a loose/sloppy piece that was hard to control and turn it into a solid/does what we want tool back in service. Thanks a bunch and see you both in a week.
Nice job! I appreciated your explanation of the typical failure mode of the original bucket pin design and how your modification addresses those deficiencies.
I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I have played around & your migs are pure music to the ears. I can always hear the great welds.
I loved "14:41" ... the way he calibrated the cutting tools !!! This was very new to me to see & learn. This is also NOT my line if expertise ... but I follow your channel... just to see THIS types of tips and tricks ... I learn this from YOU... So ..I'll have it -for ever- from YOU !!! Thank you 😊 💓 (Please more of these ... much more of these tricks!!!)
Always appreciate your explanations including “show and tell”. Often hard to visualize what’s going on without them. Keep up the great work and glad we made something here in the USA worthy of your standards (new tool rest.) 😁
Wow that boring machine and the welding is awesome to watch. Never seen such a machine, people have built and invented some amazing things. I was expecting you to weld it, so that just kinda blew my mind to see you could put the stinger in there and weld it up. You’d be my go to guy if I ever had stuff like that, that needed fixed. You should be extremely proud of yourself buddy, you are a great working man
That is really an excellent solution to the problem. Having the pin in there with caps on the end will keep dirt out and grease in. What an amazing amount of swarf resulted from the line boring. Thanks for another excellent video. You provide wonderful engineering courses. We appreciate them.
I watch every video, but rarely comment because by the time I watch the video there are already thousands of comments. I appreciate the work that you put into the videos. That line boring / welding rig is always a favorite. Thanks, and Woof to Homeless.
I enjoyed seeing the welds that you did on the end caps. I could never get a bead that good on anything I welded. But then You have much more experience than me.
Kurtis your knowledge about machines and other mechanical stuff is incredible .. to do your job properlly You must know that and you know that amazingly . Great job as always peace ;) Greetings from Poland Mate !
I LOVE THIS GUY! I'm a combo pipe welder, and I love when I see someone on youtube that actually knows what they're doing! Top notch work man! I'm just dipping my feet in machining! love your stuff!
This is an excellent video, on many levels. You demonstrate not just ingenuity and skill, but pride in your workmanship and a commitment to delivering excellent work each time. And Karen does another remarkable job of capturing every significant step in your work. Your discussion of the reasons for installing a differnet pivot arrangement was, as with everything else, clear and very interesting. Great work!
Geez mate ,the way you work,ie controlled, accurate, consistent, unhurried, respectful of the job and your tools, your vids should be shown to all aspiring machinists, show em how to do it.
Really good content ! You've got some great equipment in your shop. I was really impressed by the entire video. I can't get over how well you weld for a good machinist!
Of all the jobs you show us I think line boring is one of the most instersting. I don't know why it might just be how cool the welds look. Thank you again for showing your consummate machining/ fabricating skills!!
Well you learn something new every day, I now understand what a floating pin is and I thought I knew a bit about how shit works . Great way to fix a common issue Mate well done as usual. Also like the bit of stop gap editing shows a bit more process with out to much content . Great content you both should be proud of your quality work .
Like to say that fork lift skills don't come over night. I've got 20 years in the seat and have seen quite a few misshaps. Unloading the new machine had me in the moment and was glad that the safety officer got tucked away. Best to you all since we have snow to deal with.
As a retired welder that has done my share of repairs on heavy equipment I am truly impressed with your skill and shop and equipment. I've wondered since I've been watching you as a subscriber, did you come up with that name for your business? It is so fitting and catchy at the same time. Hats off to ya!
Learning so much here.... measuring systems that are not banana based, new words like "munted" and now the fact that Australians invented time travel. Like right now it is a whole different day there. Amazing. Seriously love the work and the background around why you do it that way. Thanks for sharing.
Nice that you can park your helicopter near the door. I know it's yours because it's the same color as the work shirts. That and Homeless is comfortable around it, as long as he doesn't make it a chew toy.
Good to see a Australian business not doing dodgy work all to get more money and instead doing it right the first time and saving the customer downtime and money. A true Aussie 👍
Loved the repair as always, you do very good work, as if you were fixing your own. Thats how to satisfy your customer. Hopefully the OEM sees your solution and uses this in their new buckets.(If they are smart enough) that is...
While this channel uses pretty big machines and heavy workpieces, I think small home shop machinists could learn a LOT here. Not only because of the superb video, but the big machines have enough space that the various operations can ce clearly seen. Most other channels show work done on “home style” machines. AND - there are a lot of unusual (for the average metal-butcher) projects. ROCK ON CEE! 🍺🍺
I love the way you get to weld the mounting bolts right to the work, I've never been able to do so. Of course my boring is considerably smaller. Homeless always adds some needed levity to the day. Thanks for always an interesting bit of work repairs.
I like that you take a factory job and make it better with the up grade ,love your work ,you are a very talented man,and the wife is very good at videos

Thank you very much. You are the best. For the first time, one provides a full explanation of how the machine works. Thank you again. Best of luck
Had a problem this morning, yourselves and I C Weld dropped videos at the same time. Went with you guys first and I wasn't disappointed. That is a well thought out modification and with a 6 year plus lifetime sounds economical. Thanks for taking the time to film this.
hey mate thanks for supporting the channel and taking time to watch the vid that's a very hard decision to make 😂
Hey when does home improvement start again??
@@bradolsen8629 To infinity and beyond, sadly I don't have the same surname
Once again Kurtis, a very practical upgrade, properly implemented - thank you for sharing. Hats off to the perfect video shots by Karen.
i love seeing how careful you are working alone...and yet you get more done than a whole team! 😂
*RESPECT*
Karen's got a new camera on the wishlist if anyone wants to send one 😂😂😂
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering 😂😂😂
Good luck Karen with the new camera with the amount of profits Kurtis has spent on tools lately
I keep forgetting with the Time change this comes on an hour before I head to bed. Great video as always. I truly admire your skill.
We are in the future! 🤣
It seems a lot of things these days are made "just good enough".
This is why I like your videos Kurtis, there is something different each week to watch, which keeps me watching.
it's so awesome seeing the process of repairs on huge excavator buckets and then hear curtis explain why what he did is a better solution than the factory one. absolutely fantastic video and very educational!
11:58, awesome footage. Kudos to the producer.
Beautiful work Kurtis ... and as per usual Homeless and Karen's editing rocks!!! Nice work! As a team I reckon you'll be pass 300k subscribers soon... impressive as when I subbed you had less than 5k and that was NOT long ago!
hey mate wow you're one of the early subscribers that's awesome thanks for sticking with us!
I'm long term borrowing the idea and doing that to our 3.5m tilter this winter.
We bored and replaced bushes and shims 2 times in 7 years of using it and is due for another.
Cheers 🍻 and thanks for allowing us into your shop.
yeah mate do this!
Best explanation of floating pin ever.
All surfaces have clean grease and the pin just floats inside.
Amazed it has so little wear, grand
Yeah I was also a bit surprised by that. I always try to avoid welding after machining as much as possible.
24:00 THE NEW TOOL HOLDER ! THE NEW TOOL HOLDER !! 25:40 the OLD Toolholder ?????? Love to know why the switch? Once again Kurtis, you make a technical repair look just like another everyday occurrence ! Great Work ! Your customers, are lucky people !
hey mate we moved over to our smaller lathe which still has the standard tool post to machine the grease caps!
Safety officer keeps you in line Kurtis! Great videos don’t change a thing!
Great vid as always - thanks.
Somehow my original comment did not show up - so here is hoping that this one does.
Good to see the new tool post making its first appearance being used on a job - it really looks the part - very impressive.
All the best from the UK,
Paul
Hey Paul! This comment worked not sure what happened to your first one. Enjoying the new tool post!
How is that working out for you?
hey mate i've been welding over 20 years now. enjoying the new QCTP no complaints so far!
I've always thought of Kurtis as the "Rembrandt" of laying beads.
Yes he's very skilled. But a rotating welding table do make it allot easier to make a perfect 360° weld ☺️
Thanks for blessing us with another “ banger “ appreciate you
Welcome mate thanks for watching
Glad it was helpful!
I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I have played around & your migs are pure music to the ears. I can always hear the great welds.
What a good repair, that was well thought out, very well done, enjoy watching your videos.
hey thanks mate
I loved "14:41" ... the way he calibrated the cutting tools !!!
This was very new to me to see & learn.
This is also NOT my line if expertise ... but I follow your channel... just to see THIS types of tips and tricks ...
I learn this from YOU...
So ..I'll have it -for ever- from YOU !!!
Thank you 😊 💓
(Please more of these ... much more of these tricks!!!)
No coffee till you get it right well described love watching you at work
Kurtis your knowledge about machines and other mechanical stuff is incredible .. to do your job properlly You must know that and you know that amazingly . Great job as always peace ;) Greetings from Poland Mate !
I LOVE THIS GUY! I'm a combo pipe welder, and I love when I see someone on youtube that actually knows what they're doing! Top notch work man! I'm just dipping my feet in machining! love your stuff!
and makes it look easy; which, of course, it's not at all
Whooooo !!! brand new tips for welding with the line borer, and as always it's a nice friday !
Good work the 3 of you !
Hey mate! Cheers 😎👍
Great work!
Amazing job sir, it's always a great to learn new things while watching your videos. Have a fantastic weekend
cheers mate you have a good weekend
This is the best camera work on TH-cam...
Awesome craftsmanship as usual need to upload more often can’t keep waiting one week 😩😩😩
we can hardly keep up with doing 1 video a week amongst everything else 🤣
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering haha, that’s ok, by far my favourite channel, just struggling to wait for Friday 🤣🤣🤣
It's amazing to see you work, excellent job
I would be interested to know how long some of these operations take. Just a quick graphic with elapsed time would be excellent.
thanks for the suggestion!
I have thought that a few times as well if it’s possible. Hopefully you won’t get any cowboys saying I could have done that a lot quicker than that
That information is commercially confidential .
New Customer….. Yea Mate…. Send that busted part over to Cutting Edge…. I have seen on TH-cam where he fixes stuff in 15 minutes
@@coreydavis5552 I know I could lots of caulk and bubble gum I could have that pin in nice and tight ,, till they used it ,, lol
Of all the jobs you show us I think line boring is one of the most instersting. I don't know why it might just be how cool the welds look. Thank you again for showing your consummate machining/ fabricating skills!!
hey mate it is a pretty awesome bit of gear!
Well you learn something new every day, I now understand what a floating pin is and I thought I knew a bit about how shit works . Great way to fix a common issue Mate well done as usual. Also like the bit of stop gap editing shows a bit more process with out to much content . Great content you both should be proud of your quality work .
Cheers mate for the great feedback we both appreciate it!
Like to say that fork lift skills don't come over night.
I've got 20 years in the seat and have seen quite a few misshaps.
Unloading the new machine had me in the moment and was glad that the safety officer got tucked away.
Best to you all since we have snow to deal with.
Great upgrade to loader bucket.
Do you ever work harden any of your tooling or bushings with liquid nitrogen to extend wear?
hey mate nah I never do that
As a retired welder that has done my share of repairs on heavy equipment I am truly impressed with your skill and shop and equipment.
Thanks for sharing.
glad you enjoyed it!
Nice that you can park your helicopter near the door. I know it's yours because it's the same color as the work shirts. That and Homeless is comfortable around it, as long as he doesn't make it a chew toy.
it's not mine, wish it was 🤣
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering You could buy a lot of new equipment for what that costs.
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering Its Carl's chopper 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
@@shawnstrode3825 You could buy a lot of kit for the annual operating and maintenance costs!
Safety officer? Check.
Big broken bit of machinery? Check.
Friday Night? Check.
Expert Repairs? Check.
I am ready.
Carry on good sir 🤣👍
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering I'm loving that Homeless now knows that the Packages you get sent likely contain new Dog Toys :D
I love the way you get to weld the mounting bolts right to the work, I've never been able to do so. Of course my boring is considerably smaller. Homeless always adds some needed levity to the day. Thanks for always an interesting bit of work repairs.
It feels so weird how you make a lathe out of a bucket by welding some pieces to it.
Yeah it's an awesome bit of gear!
I like that you take a factory job and make it better with the up grade ,love your work ,you are a very talented man,and the wife is very good at videos
