The Army is rapidly being equipped with all types of armament, from the huge siege guns down to the machine-gun nest. [clucking] Even in a modern mechanized army, the horse still has a place. Here are some Army Horses raised in South America.
Jack Benny was famous for owning a "Maxwell" (a famous running gag on his radio and later TV shows), which is what's supposedly depicted at 5:33. Jack Lescoulie impersonates Benny; Mel Blanc, who was already a part of Jack's supporting cast at that time, is "Rochester".
Originally released in July 1941. Robert C. Bruce is the narrator. "#158" was the first number picked from the fish bowl when the Government officially conducted its first peacetime draft the year before {hence, Porky's "#158 3/4", get it?}.
Barry I. Grauman Yet I saw a Looney tunes special one time. And I believe it was Bob Clampett who said that Mel Blanc would be the narrator in this and many other cartoons.
(2:20) I got to see an ACTUAL flying Spitfire. Due to airport and FAA regs it could not fly at full speed.....but just watching and hearing it fly was AMAZING!
All over the country, men of draft age scan their draft-board lists for their number. and discuss their chances of being called up. I tell you, we ain't got nothing to worry about. We both got high numbers. Your number's even higher than mine. And besides, you're much too short. They'd never take a little runt like you.
Steveie08 All I am saying is that it's weird that all these cartoons from back then are so childish, like no adult then or now would find it funny, yet they shown then to soldiers.

Zachary Marcin Very good! That was none other than Mel Blanc! He also did the other 15 voice characterisation and sound effects. Like the machine gun nest chicken sound effect!
Here is the latest weapon, a land destroyer. One hundred times faster and more effective than a tank. Look at that thing go, hurtling through space at five miles a minute. Hey, stop and let us see that machine. Hello again, folks. Hold onto your bridgework boss, here we go again. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, this was just before the US entered WW2. We had a peacetime draft in 1940 as a means of war preparedness.
Very Cool 😎 thank you more information about why is always cool and give me a better understanding
*Thanks for keeping the original aspect ratio!*
Great cameo appearance by Jack Benny, Eddie Rodchester and their “Maxwell” automobile degiuse as a 1940’s super fast ww2 land destroyer
1:18 That's Like RKO RADIO PICTURES
And why does it look as if whatever the gag was going to be was edited out, causing the abrupt cut to the title card?

I wonder if 2:49 is the first time Mel Blanc uses Bugs Bunny's voice... even though it's on a different character
"Ha ha ha ha.Mine's longer than yours."
XD 😂😂
Best part in the whole cartoon 😂
This Porky Pig cartoon was taken from the 3-Disc Special Edition release of the 1941 Warner Bros. film-noir movie, "The Maltese Falcon".

one of the great Bob Clampett cartoons is it just me or did Bob Clampett's Directing of his cartoons look like when Tex Avery worked at Warner Bros
When Tex left Warners, Bob took over his unit. So yes, those cartoons look similar since the same animators worked on them.
4:27😂👌 that man was mad
As part of government policy,
new machines are constantly being developed.

was there a cut from 1:18 to 1:22 were the parody of the RKO picture tower was
Sure looks like it. I'm going to guess it was too suggestive.
love the spitfire joke
"fifth columnists" meaing Fifth Column infantry. Also what's the name of the music at 5:56
figured it referred to yknow, enemy sympathizers.
In front of us is one of the famous British Spitfire [Plane starts spitting]
What is up with all this cartoons being so cheesy and weird, were they meant for children? They don;t seem so but then they are so childish.
+Kyle Philipe I think you are right Kyle!!!
Steveie08 All I am saying is that it's weird that all these cartoons from back then are so childish, like no adult then or now would find it funny, yet they shown then to soldiers.
Yes, the plane did everything but exclaim, "RAW-THER!!!!!" ;)
They mentioned Ed’s baby in this cartoon.
1:16
Mel Blanc's
E E E E E E E E E E E E
2:50
Eeeeeee, Watch Out, Doc!
I meant at 5:54
1941 "Can America be invaded?" "Are we safe from air attack?"
1942 "Well that answers that question.
What did it mean when porky said "fifth columnists"? I don't quite get it
shadow king13 'Fifth Columnists' are secret sympathizers of an enemy who try to undermine a nation's war effort by using sabatoge, spreading disinformation, and/or spying.
Spies or those that sympathize with a hostile power. The German-American Bund might be considered an example as they were funded by Germany.
The tall man from 2:45-3:14 sounds very similar to Bugs Bunny.
+Zachary Marcin of course he does its mel blanc.
Thts because it is.It's Mel Blanc doing another performance.
Zachary Marcin Very good! That was none other than Mel Blanc! He also did the other 15 voice characterisation and sound effects. Like the machine gun nest chicken sound effect!

They used a bit of the Jello jingle in the Jack Benny segment.
That's the remind the audience just WHO they were supposed to be. ;)
😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋wow!
Here we see the latest long-range,
rapid-fire coast defense gun in action,
shooting 10 million shells a second.
Watch.
[panting]
With the machinery and materials approaching peak output,
The need for men to man these machines grows urgent.
And then came the draft.
6:34 LOOL
Funny looking back on this from the future they made this cartoon before Pearl Harbor happened months later.
No Racism here, just accurate timeline representation for all.
That's Jack Benny and his sidekick Rochester.
@@verilyheld- Eddie Anderson, who played Rochester on "The Jack Benny Program," was a good friend of Benny's, as was Mel Blanc.

LA CONGA YE HE HE HEEEEE!🇧🇷
Machine gun nest
ahahahaa
It's just a bunch of shitty war puns.
Well, it was the forties...
Friz Freleng directed his own take on America's preparation for our eventual entry into the Second World War, "Rookie Revue" (released that October).
When the war comes up, the quality of the joke writing goes down.
Well you got to remember it was a different time back then
