    I used to be extremely anti-communist, I thought I was so correct about my opinion of Marx and communism that I could read his works and debunk it with ease, fast forward 2 years and I am a Marxist. I really wonder how many people have an opinion about Marx without ever reading anything he ever wrote. This is something that wouldn't be acceptable in any other discipline.

      I cannot agree more! Although I would not call myself a Marxist, I cannot help but respect his rationale. The negative connotation he and his work receives is subconsciously accepted out of group think. After reading some of his work it is hard to deny his ideology. Although, personally, I don't think humanity will ever be able to solve our societal issues unless there is a great shift in the way we think about our world.

      Yes, but keep in mind, many nations/countries who claim to follow Marxist ideology are Fascists such as Fascist PROC China.
      Communism polroper became so when it first blended with Dictator Lenin.
      If you could wake up Marx now and take home to China he would be sick at the way people have missuses his words for their own megalomaniac power gain.

    Horrible documentary. Does not go into any significant detail of WHAT Marx's theories were. Repeats the same sentence about how he said Capitalism is inherently unstable but does not explain WHY he said that. Stay away from this documentary if you actually would like to learn something about Marx. Go watch the BBC doc from the early 80s narrated by the late Stuart Hall if you want to learn something. Whoever this woman is she is terrible.

    This was a horribly-edited video. Nevermind the fact that the content was pulled this way and that from all the cuts, but the experience of watching this as a video was painful in a visual way. Social issues aside, this video is hard to watch.
    Also, as far as the content goes, hardly any case-study was done in this documentary, it's mainly just wishy-washy opinions thrown around from both perspectives mixed with a bunch of high-speed footage. I give this documentary 2/5 stars regardless of the terrible youtube editing.

      An high leevel opportunity was lost after the collapse of the U.R.S.S., when the European Union was still at the beginning of its implementation - at the time, it was still the European Common Market. If, at that moment, the US and the EU/ECM had joined forces, they could have put in place a kind of "Second Marshall Plan" to help the transition process in Russia, exchanging most of the nuclear arsenal of this gigantic country for economic aid. Then, having promoted the integration of Russia into the Western power system, including NATO, the United States and the European Union could have formed a single very powerful bloc with it, also attracting the former Soviet satellites in Eastern Europe. A peaceful, democratic and stable country Russia would have been a most important ally in the fight against Islamic fundamentalist terrorism, freeing the West from excessive dependence on oil and gas from the Middle East and still serving as a counterweight to an increasingly authoritarian and militarily aggressive China.

    The thing about Marx's thoughts that are hard to interpret, is that he understood THE REVOLUTION would take many centuries for it to occur. This is what The USSR failed to grasp. This is What Cuba failed to grasp. They tried to make it their Revolutions an "Instant Wheat" Commercial. The Revolution is a Historical Dialectic process. None of us will see it where we stand, in our mortal minds and history-bound souls. At this point--Marx would argue-- we are in the struggle. We are deep in the middle of Capitalism stage of Humanity. None of us will see changes. Most likely, our children, and the children of our children will not see the end of this struggle, as it seems that the Capitalists have found ways to enslave our childrens' minds with Bread (Junk Food) and Circus (X-boxes and Computer-Generated Marvel "Super-Hero" movies).
    But the day will come. Capitalist societies can withstand so many crises, before it finally collapses. Even if it takes a thousand generations, if crows or octopi do not develop technology before it happens, Capitalism will eventually collapse. Otherwise, humanity will be replaced by a more intelligent organism. Because at that that point, We would have to be too stupid as a species to go on...

  • @boychildnew1
    @boychildnew1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This subject is complicated, of course, but basic conclusion of all this consideration of how we organise society is just this: 1. Despite various positive aspects capitalism is not good enough. 2.. We CAN do better. 3. So lets get on with it. Thats essentially it! ....Folk who say 'communism/anarchism been tried and failed' - thats a cliche, not a fact. its pretty clear that Stalin and Mao were state dictators, not communists... 'communism/anarchism does not suit human nature' - thats only a point of view, not a fact. we can make a good case to say they are more in harmony with human nature...'its a good idea but it wont work in practice' - thats a cliche, not a fact. is capitalism working now, with the huge problems we have?...'communism is about ending freedom/stopping individuality/ taking away your personal possessions' - no, its not any of that. its basic aim is to allow us all to develop fully.... 'it holds back innovation' - contrary to what this film says, some theorists and researchers have pointed out that a lot more innovation than we think has actually come from state funded research, not private capitalist efforts (such as the internet we are watching this on). and anyway, communism is not about creating a huge state, but about both the state and capitalist power decreasing ....
    We should all make some effort to learn what capitalism, communism, anarchism, etc...ACTUALLY are, not believe silly cliches. We may still reject alternatives to capitalism, decide they are not better - but we should know what they are!

    In some countries Marx is being cited and applied again. This is always a heated debate and, as the documentary says, the global crisis has brought back Marx to the 21st century. Speaking about the way of replacing Capitalism, I see that some people are quite confused and I can see that through some comments. It ought to be replaced by the empowerment of the people. This is a Marx´s concept. Cooperative economy, cooperative factories, cooperative agriculture, communal property. This way people will not produce to get rich, they will produce to live without being under pression to getting more and more money.

    • @colonel__klink7548
      @colonel__klink7548 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something that the whole argument against "getting rich" ignores is really its about achieving surpluses. Meaning in an ideal scenario productivity in services and production reaches higher and higher levels thereby simultaneously liberating more and more people from that labor while at the same time making the products of that labor available to more and more people.
      A perfect example of this is the most basic economic structures of all, nomadic hunters/herders as compared to the first farmers. Historically it was the farmers who settled and developed things like metal working and writing because their system of farming was much more productive meaning less members of the society had to do it meaning more members of society could become specialists. Societies that achieve greater surpluses allow for greater specialization then societies that do not achieve such surpluses. Meaning more productive societies will ultimately benefit man more, despite initial costs such as the toll on human health that occurred when we first settled down and started farming.
      The marx idea of living "without the pressure of getting more and more money" is essentially the proposal that we should stagnate and maintain entropy. That ultimately a certain level of productivity is "good enough" and human development stops there. Human development stops there of course because human beings do not develop something without a great need. So if they are ultimately "liberated" as marx describes it getting exactly what they need and not feeling the "selfish" desire to take on more then there are no great problems people wish to take on and solve. Human development stops.
      This is even counter to human nature. Look at the world and politics, it actually and factually keeps progressively getting better for humanity as a whole yet people DESIRE to feel that its worse. The numbers say that the world is better off now then say 50 years ago but people are hell bent on believing that its worse. Why? because people crave problems, they crave meaning and purpose. If the world is just getting better then there is no great meaning to life, there is no end goal. They become depressed in a whole new way. Marx proposes a world of contentedness that humanity at its very core shuns.

    • @rubendominguez7299
      @rubendominguez7299 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I start from the premise that getting money is not the only way of motivation. Until today, it has been culturally accepted that way by many people, however, we all know that we have also other sources of motivation. Obviously, we have to teach the new generations to live within a new paradigm.

      He was a drunkard, a racist old bigoted man. He hated himself, lived a disheveled life with no achievement than to attack the the working and middle class. Your ideology gave birth to the National Socialists, the Soviets, the Red Chinese/North Korea and many others.. yet you don't see the millions of dead with swollen mass graves do you? Of course not COMRADE! You see only a "worker's paradise." The only problem with Marx is.. he never told you dummies how to transition into this "paradise" after your little revolution huh? This little gap in ideology made it all the easier for centralization of power and making drones like you subservient to the false government. You unknowingly call yourselves a "collective" and think you're equal.. while the ones like Marx would've held ALL the power above you, except he would stand much higher than any capitalist could ever dream of. No corporation can buy an entire "race of new humans" right? Only ideology is the medicine for that...

    The success of Stalin - the man who used to boast that he conquered the United States "from the plow to the atomic bomb in just a generation" - compared to Gorbachev's failure shows that a socialist economy is unable to function with a minimum of efficiency without requiring a massive dose of political violence. In an attempt to reform a decadent regime, Gorbachev moved faster with the process of economic opening in the hope of removing the predictable resistance that the Soviet bureaucracy would create to economic reform measures, as CABAL proved with the failed attempt. coup d'état in August 1991 - which ended up precipitating the final crisis of socialism and the dissolution of the USSR itself
    Its Chinese parallel - Deng Xiaoping - adopted a logic diametrically opposed to that of Gorbachev: it prioritized the achievement of economic prosperity (adopting in practice capitalism) precisely to delay any attempt at political opening, as was evident with the acceleration of the economy. reforms after the Tiananmen Square massacre.
    It is important to note that it was Karl Marx himself who, in his Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy, discerned the scenario in which the conditions for a social revolution process are formed, describing it as follows:
    "At a certain stage in its development, the material productive forces of society contradict existing production relations or - which is only their legal expression - with the property relations in which they have been active until then. From the forms of development of the productive forces, these relations are transformed into fetters of them. So, it is a time of social revolution." (Reproduced according to MARX, K. Preface to the Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy, organized by Florestan Fernandes and published under the title K. Marx: Theory and historical process of the social revolution, In Marx & Engels, Great Social Scientists Collection, History, vol. 36. São Paulo: Ática, 1983. p. 232. Commemorative edition of the centenary of Karl Marx's death)
    By rejecting the pursuit of profit maximization as an instrument to stimulate innovation, socialist countries ended up condemning themselves to obsolescence. Thus, they lost the chance to incorporate the productivity gains made possible by technological progress. That is why the capitalist countries managed to provide a greater rise in the standard of living of their population, even without pursuing the egalitarian ideal. Therefore, until the “final crisis of socialism” (to paraphrase K. Marx's own definitions once again), it was only a matter of time. But religious fanatics do not give up on their faith, even against the indisputable proof of the facts, which completely refute it!

      There's a lot of things you've said here that rest on a faulty premise or are otherwise just plain wrong. For example, do you really think that the western world exists without the regular use of political violence to prop up their existing regimes? What about the bloody suppression of organised labour in the west, or the many, many coups conducted throughout the world in the name of cracking open new markets for western corporate monopolisation? Is insisting that a portion of your population be consigned to starvation, destitution and homelessness in order to motivate the working population to accept worse conditions not itself a form of mass systematic violence?
      It's a double standard to insist that the Soviets' violent resolution of their own internal affairs is unacceptable while at the same time ignoring anti-communist massacres from capitalist regimes. Over a million people were slaughtered like animals in Indonesia for being communists. Are those crimes something we should just shrug our shoulders over? What about the systematic extermination of over 20% of North Korea's population during the Korean war, an event US air force general Curtis LeMay gushed over even as he was lobbying for a nuclear holocaust there. Is it fair to omit these crimes and deny a comparative analysis? What about Vietnam and Laos, and the daily slaughter that occurred there for over a decade?
      Moreover, your claims at a loss of innovation fall short at even a cursory glance of history. The USSR was a scientific powerhouse that produced one of the most highly educated workforces in history. They achieved countless firsts in all the sciences, including the remarkable achievement of pioneering human spaceflight. Even with its considerably larger resources the US was playing catch up for years. The double pulmonary bypass was pioneered in the USSR, as well as the first mobile telephone. Women entered the work force and achieved true economic freedom for themselves, with near parity with men in STEM careers, especially in life sciences and medicine. A profit motive doesn't produce general efficiency, just efficiency at producing profits. Contrary to your claim, the historical record makes clear that socialism paved the way for an enormous social transformation in the former Russian empire. With the opening of the Russian archives and the declassification of cold war era documents on both sides including the CIA this is now impossible to dismiss without first dismissing the historical record.
      Finally, you are misattributing the quote "He had found Russia working with wooden ploughs and leaving it equipped with atomic piles" to Stalin himself and applying a false context to it. This was actually quoted by Isaac Deutsher in his obituary to Stalin; praising the leader for the sheer scale of the social advancement that had come to the USSR in his lifetime.

    If she read any Marx at all, she wasn't paying attention - Marx did not argue that capitalism would collapse, nor does Capital have anything to do with what occurred in Russia, so how could the collapse of that system leave his reputation in shreds. He did not argue that crises are caused by the struggle between capital and labour ( as she claims ) nor that they are due to workers being unable to buy the stuff they have produced (as bot she and Jaques claim). 4 major factual errors in the first 5 minutes - is this a record?

    Marx, the intellectual, was a freeloader and a hypocrite. He lived off other people's money, initially from his relatives, then from a friend who ran a business and employed workers (a capitalist) and from unpaid debts. His general outlook on life may have have played some role in two of his daughters committing suicide and he refused to acknowledge his illegitimate son born of his never paid, live in, housekeeper. His recent surge in popularity appears to stem from the rise in envy associated with the gap between "worker" and the wealthy. He was right in that respect, for it is basic human nature to want a bigger slice of the cake. That is where unions come in and argue the case for better pay and conditions. In his time, during the industrial revolution, the union concept was embryonic. There is some irony in his fame.

      No not really the ones least educated on Marx I find are frequently those who are staunchly opposed to him. The overwhelming majority of them are completely ignorant to anything pertaining to Karl Marx. They just succumb to the usual propaganda machine's narratives. That being said some who are in favor of socialism/communism are indeed ill informed as you state of course.

    First 2 mins and already a misrepresentation. Marx main argument against capitalism wasn't a moral one about fairness. It was an economical argument saying it was a bad way of organising society that allocates resources poorly and leads to crisis.

    • @DipayanPyne94
      @DipayanPyne94 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it was ultimately about fairness. Economics itself is about fairness. Why do we need to study economics ? Coz it is necessary for any society to function properly ? What do I mean by properly ? Well, in favour of the people in it ...

    Radical, revolutionary, really?
    How revolutionary is the idea that Marx put forth of “let us finally imagine for a change, an association of free men, working with the means of production held in common.” - Karl Marx
    Makes common sense to me, nothing radical or revolutionary there.
    What is destructive, is a system that rewards the thief and punishes the victim, capitalism.

      In The RABBIT HOLE try getting everyone to drive exactly the same speed. This stupid ideology could only work in small villages if it were to ever be remotely feasible. When it comes to a place like the United States it's just to big and to spread out. And before you talk about roads, if it wasn't for government which underneath all the Marxist veneer is at the root of it I mean big over bearing heavy handed government, I would have a flying car to get where I want to go. Governments need to be as small as possible for people to be free and equal. That is a hard concept for the Marxist lap dogs to comprehend though. It doesn't take volumes of Karl marx's dribble to illuminate that fact, all it takes is an open mind using your OWN thoughts. Not all "great" thinkers are worth the shit stains in my pants.

    Marx is right, the time is not in one human time. It is over the years of the system. Let me take you to small farm, which has set rate of land, set amount of workers. I this conner stone we can test and look at the future of capital. In start an open market feeding, now population as grown over 50 years profit as man goal the farmers prices have gone down and capitalist profits went up. Now fewer farmers can meet the market causing a massive shift towards labor jobs, seeing farm is sold and now part of a large farm, the work force moves to the city. With the city having grown pass the farms they require food from other countries. Now there are less food in developing parts of the world, creating famine and civil strife. At same time technology increasing demand less workers. 50 more years passed and labor price have sent the jobs to other places leaving a large work force in many areas to cause micro famine. As profit shrink, price goes up to maintain the ideals of capitalism. Now taking the last wealth of the people. Leaving a family able to feed and take care of it self to unable to feed itself and no home to call their own. Such are the grave diggers. In response arms must increase to keep poor from over throughing the capitalist. Creating a new medival society, which will lead to capitalist kingship, leading to conflict that caused the original over through of medival system. Now Americanism was responses to this and till midnight 1800 was successful about it. Where capitalism returned and few took most and slowly created ways to take the rest. Now under conflict and solution we see cultural learning process. Then keep past in mind, we can create a social system productive but with out the causing such unrest, where for many cultures of Europe have adopted. Through this we will see the rise of turn social justice, giving liberties and equality to all. The major down side is amount of conflict average person have go through to create the cultural. Global warming beyond description, leaving most pillars mankind turn to a hollow shell. Those creating new human, which through generation of conflict will reach a new understanding of importance of self and of state of mankind. Thus leaving a new culture less likely fallow the old system of power and create a new system of true abilities of mankind. Less requiring leaders using conflict for power, seeing the population has history to learn from, leaves the state of the common idea towards openness to human ideas and conference in one abilities. thus in short Star-Terk, which on its own is extremely socialist.

    profit is the driving force of development......if it is the idea yo have then what one calls development is actually anti-development. capitalism is against nature against human against environment.....globalisation, capital liberlisation, world bank, IMF etc are about to make this world ill suitable for the life to sustain. i can give you a simple example.... take a country like India where spinach can be cultivated to cater the need. but the capitalist devil USA made our land infertile today by exporting the mineral remains of world war earlier. now in India many people are affected by cancer and other chronic diseases. our farmers are totally made dependent on pesticides and insecticides imported from usa and other western nations. now the same capitalists are importing dates and marketing their product more attractively.
    we can make alternative technology for energy production but these capitalist are lobbying the govt. and other illegal means to curb our initiatives. the world is made to believe only americans and few developing countries are able to innovate creatively and we(what you call third world countries) were made to buy whatever sold by them. who the hell are you to call us third world country.....one of the oldest civilisation is found along indus river. we have multiple storey buildings in pumbuhar in 11500 yrs ago.....i have the proof. today you are calling us third world. capitalism is like inorganic fertilizer......it initially seems to be productive but it will make the land infertile later. capitalism sucks..........
