Dr Sowell your voice is currently one of the most valuable. In 1956 I enlisted in the Marine Corps, and spent 13 weeks in "Summer Camp" at Parris Island, SC. I distinctly remember one class on political history (or something similar) . One question to the class was: " In what year did Karl Marx write the Communist Manifesto ?". I responded with "1848 sir". The instructor immediately told me that was incorrect, and that the correct answer was 1917.
At age 21, and a college dropout, I was smart enough to remember that my primary "mission" was to survive Marine boot camp, and that trying to correct one of the instructors at that point would be detrimental to my plan.
My Point in all this is that the truth is being obscured - either by intent, or by accident - by not only individuals, but by agencies and institutions at multiple levels. General Milley is way off base injecting his political emphasis into military training/operations.
I feel fortunate that I am 86, and by God's providence, I will not be here when the "Wheels come off" !

He was God in the flesh who came to save the world from sin, died on a cross, and was raised from the dead in 3 days by the power of the Holy Spirit, and reigns with God in Heaven. Jesus went to Heaven to prepare a place for His people, and is coming back one day.
Judas was not a capitalist (a wealthy person who invests in businesses and finance). He was a disciple of Jesus who became a traitor to Him (Jesus) for 30 pieces of silver. Judas regretted his decision, tried to return the money, and when refused, he threw the silver pieces onto the floor. He then went and hung himself.

So, Engels had a position of authority in a company in England, where he could actively work to improve the working conditions? Did he actually do anything to help those workers or did he just profit from their misery both financially and also socially through his writings?

The story with the sword is much better than the story of freeloaders from rich families who, instead of working and developing their own business, spent their whole lives planning how to take control of all businesses and then organize them their own way...
As I grew up in a communist country, I know how such state behemoths worked, as soon as the market opened after 1990, they all collapsed because neither the quality nor the price was competitive with what private entrepreneurs offered!
The privatists took products from state factories and melted them in hand-made molds into things that people wanted to buy... and for communist factories this was an impossible job and there was always a shortage of everything(even toilet paper).
Every year, when the haymaking season was approaching, they announced on the radio and television that there is shortage of string to bind the bundles...

Surplus-value is the time workers must work for free in order for the state to have an income, often called taxes, and from here, the intellectuals hope that some of that will trickle down on them so they can avoid working on the assembly line, and instead walk through university hallways, carrying coffee cups, and ponder very deep, but utterly useless think thoughts. Think thoughts that are wrapped in and expressed in pompous and poetic epigrams, while their clothing is meant to show how proletarian they are.

This is the main marxian criticism of capitalism it encourages anti-social greed. Marx and engels were not above the system of which we all live in they were regular humans trying their best they just had the minds to see how the system was wrong. Did not the Democracy of the Slave owners in Greece precede the Democracy of the Capitalist? Were the slave owners bad for their ideas involving land, math, geometre and science. Should we try and tear them down having their slaves work for them instead of eating them like what we did to each other before agricultural slavery? @@Insomble Call it what you like it. The politicians call it a democracy because otherwise would you call it a dictatorship? A Marxist might refer to it a a Bourgeois democracy to signify it is the dictatorship of capital. Its Senate is based upon land like the house of Lords and its representatives on the population with the voters limited to male property owners. Just like England the franchise was eventually extended to almost the whole population. They chief advantage of a constitution is that it is more difficult for a literate population to be taken advantage of. A republic mere signifies a government without a King as in the Roman Republic which had a Constitution. So a Constitutional Republic is actually partially redundant. As the Constitution dictates the rules rather than the king.

Isn’t it funny how people who have negative consequences in history either come from England or flee to England.
    Ayatollah Khomenei
    Karl Marx
    Friedrich Engels
There is evidence that Engels became an agent of the British Secret service during his initial stay in England and was employed by the organization to “feed” ideas to Marx which they wanted him to publish under his name, thinking it was his idea. These ideas were a tool of intelligence warfare against any state that tried to improve or modernize its manufacturing as the British upper class, which owned the factories in England would not tolerate the competition.
Marx was their unwitting tool, and Engels the funnel thru which they poured into Marx whatever they needed him to write. He was Marx’s intelligence service handler just like Colonel House was the handler for US President Woodrow Wilson.
This is why Marx and Engels were safe in England.
