- The Great North Run this weekend will draw 60 thousand runners to the streets of Tyneside and a TV audience of millions. But there's another international sporting fixture in Newcastle tonight that's proving much more controversial.

Saudi Arabia is playing Costa Rica in the first of two international football friendlies at St James's Park, the home of Newcastle United. And the choice of venue has angered some of the team's fans.

Jullian Assange is prisoned for journalism.
he stole and leaked classified information . thats not journalism thats a federal offense .
The double standards is amazing
The Premier League are a joke.
They didn't stop Man City so they can't stop Newcastle
these newcastle fans are nothing but an intolerant bunch of hooligans
They absolutely could’ve, they just don’t care enough. There were even leaked messages with politicians saying they wanted the owners.
The prem will allow anyone in even if they are the worst person alive.
"Legally binding assurances" hahahha
these newcastle fans are nothing but an intolerant bunch of hooligans
Talking about human rights when Julian Assange is literally locked up in the U.K for telling the truth.
And what is that then?
"a monument to sportswashing"
Jamal Khashoggi R.I.P.
The funny thing is that no one came except for Lina and how many people she bought to stand with her 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Whilst some of thier points are valid. Many people, myself included do seem to think it slightly hypocritical to critise Saudi Money in Newcastle Whilst turning a blind eye to western billionaire owners who acquired thier wealth from equally shady sources and exploitation
Saudi money is, however, particularly blood-sodden.
Which western billionaires are you referring to that own PL football clubs?
Saudi money is as dirty as any money, also a huge portion of Saudi wealth is the result of oil sales to the West. The difference though is regardless of them being evil billionaire parasites, people like John Henry or Mike Ashley don’t personally order hundreds of migrants shot on their border, air strikes on Yemeni school kids, executions of dissidents etc. although they do profit from similar things. I agree though there are many hypocrisies and contradictions in the reporting of these issues and I’d like scrutiny on wealth in football in general
@@DilbertWhitehead it'll be the *thier ones. 😉
Majority of the western billionaires have invested into arms and wars, go get your back yard checked before pointing at others. Your government killed millions in Iraq and Afghanistan. These leaders are still out and receiving MBE.
As a Saudi woman saying that They do not care about women’s rights or human rights. They only have their personal interests
if she was right that her sister was imprisoned because of her defense of women’s rights all Saudi women would be in prison!🙂
But by her own admission, her sister was working as a spy for the embassies of countries that’s why she was imprisoned for 3 years, and I think it is too short. If she had been in another country, she would have stayed forever because it is an international security issue

Go to London and protest to your Government...This is Football.keep them apart..
In order to wash in general, we not only need to Care!! but also have any shred of value in your opinion, which we don’t ✊🇸🇦✊
Say what you want, but there is one truth. The Saudi leaders know how to investment and knows how to think and how to arrive to top 💚💚💚💚
The hypocrisy is real here. Leave Saudi alone and focus on yourself.
The guy that orders killing just bought a club from my country, and you calling it hypocrisy.
I don’t know why those ppl want to protest about Saudi country and they don’t live there . Unless they have no job or someone is paying them ,the Saudies never protest about UK or other countries.
There's 7 or 8 of them here. NUFC attract 52k fans with tens of thousands more who can't get a ticket.

Saudi is an amazing country and amazing culture. Godbless his excellecy and the Saudi State (who also put 10s of billions into the UK economy every year and keep 1000s of working class UK tradesmen in jobs)😊
Instead of directing their ire at fans they should be calling on government and league officials for allowing the sale of Newcastle to the PIF to begin with
As Newcastle fan ,i love the Saudis owners.🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦
Thank you
This concept of sportswashing is COMPLETELY wrong and idiotic. We are literally watching a video, and commenting on the human rights abuses RIGHT NOW. The fact they invested in Newcastle has meant that you've reported on their human rights abuses 10 fold. If they're trying to hide their abuses or "wash" it's having the complete opposite effect. It's obvious that sportswashing isnt a thing in this instance.
For me personally it's sportswashing by the Saudi's. Having a Saudi team playing at Newcastle's ground is taking a step too far. The other thing I am concerned about is that the human right's problem's in Saudi Arabia is an issue. Me personally I didn't want this take over as a fellow football fan. If it's not club related fixture it should not be played at St James's park end of story. The other point is that they have I would say on the Newcastle United away strip by having it green and white the same colour's of the Saudi flag.
Where is your objection to the violation of human rights in the arms trade, sale, and war-making in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Africa, and South America? Do I see you standing in the street and demanding that the House of Representatives imprison the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, or are you just being hypocritical?
They paid for everything, if you don’t like the club, don’t support them, simple as
@@ettoetto3067 You think about it. That women in those counties are treated more like a object less like a human being. A mother was visiting family in Iran and was arrested and charged with spying and released just a year ago. Her name was Ms Radcliff. Iran/Qatar/Syria/Saudi/ are both as bad each other with human rights. Sometimes I can't chose who is worse then the other. Thing's like going to a bar before the game it's not allowed in places like Qatar and other places. If someone robs over in those
countries they will whip there hand's off. Two TH-camrs from Australia were flying a drone and bearing in mind there were no fly zones there they were arrested and nearly faced public death pen and that was in Iran.
@@harryjackson9384 You are a liar and I challenge you to give me just one case. Based on everything you mentioned, there is no Iran in Saudi Arabia or any Arab country that detains dual nationals to put pressure on Europe and America politically to ease Western sanctions.
You're just a huge hypocrite
Soon you will have the antichrist in your country. Stop idolizing sport and stop the money in the back pockets of the elite having good relations with the Saudis...

Interesting that the only people protesting were those sat at that table during your report. Also interesting that their spokesperson refused to answer pertinent questions from Vloggers who report on NUFC every week. They clearly weren't happy about answering questions which did not fit their biased narrative. There was a good mix of cultures at both games. Everyone intermingled, the atmosphere was great and the football was entertaining. A pity there was not more people there to enjoy it. Bring on the next visit and open another section of the ground for more spectators to enjoy the occasion.
A sign of the times - yes
Sportswashing - yes
Both things are true at same time.
Explain the meaning of sportswashing
I would say it’s using sport to create a positive image of something that would otherwise be perceived negatively. It’s a more subtle form of propaganda. Eg evil regime likes sport and so do we so they can’t be all bad etc.
@@pbeeby That's bs regarding Newcastle then. PIF are blatantly in it for financial gain and as a consequence that gives us, the NUFC fans, the investment we deserve. Welcome to Planet Earth. We need the Saudi's more than they need us
Newcastle United ownership flow chart....
1. Are you emotionally invested in NUFC
2 Are you financially invested in NUFC

@@StephenC-1908 America has Hollywood and many other avenues of hard and soft power so doesn’t need to spirtwash anything. They use Disney / marvel movies, as one example, to project and export their ideology. They also happen to have a massive empire which means they have no to sports wash.

Our daughters, and all of our children and their descendants need to be able to grow up in a country which is safe, homogeneous, and high-trust. A country in which we, the peoples of Britain, dictate our own affairs and our own destiny, rather than traitors and parasites who serve megalomaniacal foreign psychopaths who despise us. And above all, a country which simply feels like home. A country which is genuinely ours, as it ought to be.

@@christhomson8924 Then filling the place up with Muds is not a good idea is it. You can achieve the highest level of diversity by all countries remaining homogenous nation states.
Why did your country occupy half of the countries of the world and steal its wealth? It was stolen from the wealth of India only. In today’s calculations, more than 60 trillion dollars, the jewel on top of the Queen’s crown, was stolen from India. Are you demanding that it be returned to India and that they be compensated for their money, or are you just a hypocrite?

The question is how long the PL will allow the Saudis to own Newcastle, the problem for them they will have to deal with City at the same time.. the question is how much pain they are willing to inflect to themselves to fix it. If they really want to fix it, it will be painful to the English football.
