Great guest. We just returned from Japan. About 5 to 6 days in Tokyo, 4 days in Osaka, 3 Days in Yokohama. That's enough to get a feel for the area, n we can't wait to return. Great public transportation makes travel very easy n stress free. In Yokohama, stay by the Station n make sure to visit Chinatown, the waterfront n Nissan Engine Museum
Bangkok and Tokyo are very different on so many levels. Takashi claims that for USD 500 you can get a similar apartment as that in BKK. Not even close! I lived in Tokyo for 10 yrs in a major area paying USD 800 and it was one large room (25mtr) with a tiny area for cooking, unit shower/bath/sink+ toilet as the bathroom. No balcony, no pool, no lobby, no gym_ just basic 4 floor building. BKK is much more advanced with condos and amenities and so cheap and well equipped. Food even now with the weak yen is much more costly in Japan than BKK. So just wanted to set the records straight. Thanks Paul for your collaboration.❤

I like the way Takashi describes and articulates things. I just got back from a 2 week trip to Japan he is spot on with all of his points. I have been subconsciously thinking about these things but unable to explain them and he did that perfectly. Especially when comparing the introverted society vs extroverted society. Also the politeness culture vs the friendliness culture.
It was great to see Takeshi on this episode! I watch is vlogs a lot, and this is the first time I’ve seen him so animated. He often comes across quite reserved on his channel. I guess he lets his hair down in Thailand! 😂

I’m Thai, currently stay in Tokyo for work. Definitely, there is a big gap of the cost of living between the twos but it’s tradeoff for things that not seen in Thailand. One thing that I totally agree with Takashi is most of Japanese are introverted but the country itself is so nice, perfect public transportation, less pollution, well organized city and cleanliness,love Japan….

I think 🇯🇵 its a interesting country many beautiful places and buddhist temples, the women look beautiful but i think 🇹🇭 its quite similar but it is different and offers a better quality of life and i think thailand its cheaper.😊🙏🏻
For a Thai like me, the most problematic flaw of Japan is not its cost of living, but it's about 'stressful atmosphere'. In short, living in Japan can either be most "peaceful" or most "stressful" experience for you, depending on what you're doing there.

Tokyo isn’t that expensive to be honest. I lived there 3 years. And you guys both are comparing to USD. Bruh 1 dollar is close to 150 JPY. Back in 2010 it was at 100 or less… The exchange rate for USD is so good now that in US Dollars it sounds less, but convert it to JPY it’s a lot more. I would say quality of life in Tokyo is much much better and it is affordable. The only thing that has much worse value is the living situation. For USD on a Per Square Meter basis, Tokyo is much more expensive. You can of course get a cheaper place in city center, but the size, the amenities, the age of the building, just can’t compare with Bangkok. On a Per Square Meter basis, Bangkok offers more value. But for a more well rounded life, higher quality of foods, younger and more educated international expat crowd, and safer streets, more innovation, better business opportunities, etc Tokyo wins hands down. The only thing is accommodation.

I find the level of customer service in JP way higher than Thailand. I like it how you can bend rules in Thailand. In Japan there is no chance of bending any rules. Society is based on rules and there is no in between regardless of logic. I like the punctuality of Japan too. Everything runs on time like clockwork. Not the case in Thailand. That said, I like the chaos of Thailand. Japan is too orderly.
So basically, it takes longer to make new friends as a foreigner in Japan, and you'd have to be the type to also be okay being on your own. My attention hungry friends would hate living there if that's the case. Me? I'd probably be fine.
Comparing a developed wealthy nation like Japan to Thailand is a bit of an absurdity but if you demand affordable congenial lifestyle, Thailand is your place.
I don't mean this as an insult, the Thais (and southeast asians in general) are much more accepting to everyone and anything they bring (cultural differences), any mistake you make comes with a joke from the thais. When I was in japan, it's extremely difficult to navigate around unspoken rules and social expectation, it gets exhaustimg

No no. I found a LOT of Thai people cannot speak English. Even going to 7-11 they don’t speak English. Taxi drivers nope. Maybe if you go to a large mall. Or to a place where a lot of foreigners hang out I find it interesting that he says japanese people are naturally more introverts and it takes a lot of effort and energy to talk to someone else yet his channel is mostly interviewing and “talking” to Japanese people who seem to be ok opening up and exert energy to talk to him

As a very introverted guy I love Japan but also love Thailand 😂 Next year I wanna move to one of the two but it's SO difficult to decide which one.
The main difference that I can feel is Bangkok is totally more lively and less strict ( which is often not good like too flexible).

Food is actually very inexpensive in Tokyo, unless your strictly eating at high end restaurants (which can also be pricey in BKK)
He did say that the price he quoted is for regular apartments and not like bangkok with all the fancy amenities.

@@katosei-ss2rr 大体は職場の話ですね。自分の経験で、日本でアルバイトしたことがありますが、「何か一回でもミスしてしまったらおしまい!」というプレッシャーが店長さんからもお客さんからもよくかけられました。
また、日本でサラリーマンとして就職した友人も何人もいますが、彼らは皆、そこでの虐待的な労働文化に耐えられず、数年のキャリアを積んだだけでタイに帰国してきました。
それにしても、僕はまだ日本が大好きであって、最高の国だと思います。まぁ、もちろん社会人としてではなく、観光客としてですね。

込み入った質問を突然すみません。個人的に外国人労働者の社会統合に関して興味があり勉強していまして、宜しければお話をお聞かせ頂ければと思いました。
@@katosei-ss2rr 友人たちからの話だと長すぎるかもしれないので、タイでの日本企業に働いてた僕の経験からにしましょう。
個人的な意見ですが、日本企業の大きい問題はこんな感じです。
1. 生産性よりも労働時間を優先する.。
例えば、A さんと B さんがほとんど同じワークロードをアサインされて、A さんが 8 時間以内に仕事済ませて残業せずに帰宅しました。一方で B さんがよく弛んで 8 時間以内仕事済ませず、何時間か残業してしまった。日本人の上司さんから見ると、B さんの方が真面目な人だと見えて引き上げる可能性が高くなる。
2. 上司側は論理的な話を聞かない。
僕だって、日本人の上司とよく口論をしました。僕が合理的であろうとするたびに、彼はその理由を無視することにして、単に「もっと一生懸命に働け」と言われただけです。
3.「お客様は神様である」という習慣も面倒くさい。
あるプロジェクト、僕のチームはクライアントからの仕様書を参考しながら作業していくこと。しかし、クライアントから仕様書に何点の間違いもあって修正する時間がよくかかって納期に間に合わなかった。上司がクライアントに対して何もコメントせず、僕のチームのせいだと決定した。
4. ミーティング中毒。
日本のお偉いさんたちは、「ミーティングさえ行えば、どんな問題でも解決できる!」という考え方が強い。その為、無意味なミーティングが多すぎて生産性に影響を与えてしまう。これは上記の #1 に繋がろうではないかと。
僕のあまり良くない経験はこれ以上まだまだあるように気がしますけど、今頭が痛くなったので中々思い出せませんね。w
ただし、日本で働いた友人たちと比べたら、彼らの方がもっとひどい目にあったようです(例えば、外人に対する差別など)。
備考 : 昔タイの多くの人々は、日本人の真面目な働き方に憧れていた。日本人のようにやみくもに働けば、タイもやがて日本のような先進国になれると信じていた。しかし、新しい世代のタイ人は日本の労働文化の欠点を理解できるようになり、この考え方はすでに時代遅れになっているらしいです。

BKK top hotels like Four Seasons, MO are more expensive than their counterparts in Tokyo lol. elite living in Bangkok is actually pricier

The largest expat community in Thailand is from Japan.

So basically, it takes longer to make new friends as a foreigner in Japan, and you'd have to be the type to also be okay being on your own. My attention hungry friends would hate living there if that's the case. Me? I'd probably be fine.
Comparing a developed wealthy nation like Japan to Thailand is a bit of an absurdity but if you demand affordable congenial lifestyle, Thailand is your place.
I don't mean this as an insult, the Thais (and southeast asians in general) are much more accepting to everyone and anything they bring (cultural differences), any mistake you make comes with a joke from the thais. When I was in japan, it's extremely difficult to navigate around unspoken rules and social expectation, it gets exhaustimg

No no. I found a LOT of Thai people cannot speak English. Even going to 7-11 they don’t speak English. Taxi drivers nope. Maybe if you go to a large mall. Or to a place where a lot of foreigners hang out
I find it interesting that he says japanese people are naturally more introverts and it takes a lot of effort and energy to talk to someone else yet his channel is mostly interviewing and “talking” to Japanese people who seem to be ok opening up and exert energy to talk to him
