I commented before in April on this absolutely amazing performance by Thea Gilmore. She really HAS done Sandy Denny proud. The sad thing is that even with the exposure of this track at the Olympics it's had less than 19,000 views here !!! If it was Pitbull or Katy Perry, it would have had 159 million views by now - tells me everything I need to know about where our popular music is heading. God help us! to-day I cried some real tears, miss london so much and my friends, left after losing all my money in the crash and now live in the shires, would give my right arm to be able to go back to my friends and the city i lived in for 55 years, this song says it all for me, i will get home before I die, for sure.
I will never stop loving that song, C'mon Thea more country songs UK style, great voice, brill tune and I just love it, Mike Karl Maslen Halo uk Records.
Great song! Uplifting and brilliantly used in the BBC London 2012 Olympics "Last Look" video. Brought a lump to the throat. We had the best time for once.
They played it as a background to a montage of our gold medal winners and I thought this is a great tune...I'm so glad I've found it on here too, she's got a great voice :-)
Heard this during one of the BBC Olympic progs itsa lovely beautifully written song but have to honest and never heard of Thea Gilmore or Sandy Denny! now they fill up half of my ipod!
the lyrics really speak to me, "London" can mean any place you wish you were, or any time you wish you go, or any person you wish you could be with. I love how the feeling of loneliness is married with the positivity of hope and action - "i'm gonna call that number...that's where i wanna be".
Me too...id heard it on radio 2 a few times whilst driving and always meant to buy it...so i also ended up googling it last night and ordered it off amazon...gorgeous voice.
My Gosh!!! Where have I been? I probably would never have heard this, if I hadn't watched some folks travel Vlog, and this was the opening background song......x
Hearing this every morning on Radio 2. I wonder why she wrote about us-perhaps the fact there is a forthcoming tour? Why would you want to be in London-double dip recession, unemployment over 2m-oh wait, the Olympics, Diamond Jubilee of course, okay it's not that bad and the rain is welcome, so come one, come all and join the celebrations in June/July/August. More songs about London please-not many around.
A very beautiful and positive song about London - may I recommend this tongue in cheek negative one we wrote about the number of pay to play music venues in London which received the backing of the Musician's Union - Stairway To London - Objayda
Brilliant work done with Sandy Denny's lyrics, leaves one wondering what their author would have made of them herself? But I'd put my money on her really being pleased with the job Thea Gilmore has made of the song, and maybe they could have worked together? S. D. really could have done with female support. Great record!
Okay, well I must admit to not knowing who she was in the first place but thanks for putting me in the picture a bit more, it is still a good song and how apt-perhps she had some foresight that London would win-what a shame if the French had won it-wouldn't have worked :D
I am a mega Sandy fan, and love Thea's talent, but this song should never have been finished! But unfortunately Sandy threw little away and these plain lyrics not only survived but got awarded music. Every writer in every genre has bad days, and this song is not how Sandy would choose to be remembered. Unfortunately show the public rubbish and they regularly vote it as being brilliant, yet sometimes fail to appreciate outstanding work. 'Surely it's just a question of taste?' the offended masses cry out in unison. No it's not. If you can't see how bad this is then any explanation concerning Sandy's genuinely great work cannot possibly reach fertile ground. Likely you also love rap?
This is the same song as Nathan Carter sings called "Where I wanna be" and he even named an album after it, so what's the difference with this version of the same song under a different title?
DCK, who does Nathan credit with writing the lyrics and music? He's made a few changes in the lyrics, but they're still recognisably Sandy's. He does a pretty rocking version of South Australia on the same album.
Of course, there will only ever be one Sandy Denny. How could that wonderfully funny, clumsy, girl find it in her soul to write and sing from a place so deep. Yet, I really like this record-sure Sandy was probably never planning to release these songs but they shed light on feelings she would not have committed to vinyl. Yet, Thea did a good job concidering us Sandy fans are very faithful to the Lady, cheers
Great song. Great voice. 🙂

Every time I hear this I want to go back to London, I lived there for 20 years, wish I'd never left, this song makes me feel so nostalgic.
Totally under-rated this girl.
Would really love her to get more recognition.

It’s a song, with a great melody and well performed. Chill and either enjoy it or don’t listen to it 😀

+TheDCKizza This one came first.
I can see why the estate asked her to do this.

He does a pretty rocking version of South Australia on the same album.
It's OK. But I'd rather have heard Sandy perform it.
