- We had a MAJOR ACCIDENT involving a box truck that ran off the roadway behind a guard rail and overturned completely on its roof!! The Main Event our 50 Ton Rotator built by Miller Industries Single handedly lifted the ENTIRE truck out of the ditch over the guard rail and placed it behind us in the lane!!! This was a HUGE recovery for us and it went off without a hitch!!!

Ok, now someone needs to put a Superman symbol on the grille of that truck!!! So expertly done, the crew did an amazing job all the way around. Thank you all for doing what you do!😊
There used to be a towing channel called Country Towing & Repair that had Superman graphics on their tow trucks. Sold the towing part of the business a few years ago. They were almost as good as Merciful Towing.

He went in about 500ft down the road where there is no guardrail and traveled behind it.

When we first pulled up I thought we were going to need a 2nd but we took a gamble and luckily it paid off for us!

I'm looking into this line of work here soon. Been doing OTR for 10 years now, and decided I'm tired of living in the cab of a truck. Got an interview with a company local to where I live, which I believe is family run.
Been hauling glass the last 6 1/2 years almost now, and time with the company has been good, they've treated me well. But I've started to hit that wall, I want more time to vest into my hobbies, I wanna cook my own meals at home, go fishing more, maybe garden a bit again.
My uncle does roadside maintenance, hes been a mechanic long as I've been alive. He only live an hour from where I do, and I chatted with him for some advice. Decided I'm not gonna hesitate, and rip the bandaid off so to say.
Pivotng careers in an economy like this isn't an easy choice, but at least I got plenty of CDL driving experience under my belt. Mainly be learning to operate the equipment in a safe manner, and perhaps doing some vocational training in mechanical work.
Being able to sleep in my own bed at home every night will make a world of difference. Hoping all works out, my license checked out, only a couple speeding tickets in Commiefornia since I've been driving. I think most of it will just be learning the trade, and readjusting.
Good luck to you! its always good to see people from outside the industry come in. Its a big difference from OTR to Towing and Recovery your going to put in far more hours of actual labor but its much more rewarding and as you said your going to be home alot more. Try to learn every piece of equipment your company has be as versitile as possible so you can stay busy and stay making money. You have to remember the heavy towing industry relies on the trucking industry, Whatever issues the trucking industry is seeing the towing is seeing too so dont be one of the heavy guys that wont jump in a rollback and tow a car. The towing industry can be as enjoyable as you make it. theres ALOT of suck to it but its all in what parts you choose to focus on!! I hope the best for you!
@@MercifulTowing I grew up doing construction and farm work with my dad and uncles, and 6+ years of hauling glass is laborious too. I'm always eager to learn new things, try different stuff out, and on the side being home more I can get some vocational training in mechanical. I'm young yet too, only turning 34 soon and already got ten years experience of CDL driving. Compared to most the other drivers I chat with I'm half their age about lol.
Hopefully all works out with them, I learned well from my elders, don't burn yer bridges, reinforce them. I'll go above and beyond my pay grade to make sure the job is done right, my messes are cleaned up, and I leave the customers with a smile on their face. I just wish others of my generation would step up to fill the boots of their father's and grandfather's. The country is certainly in need of more hardhats and less pocket protectors. My sentiments as a millennial.
It's a great equipment yeah but knowing your equipment and its limits is the other half. Don't sell yourself short man that was experience and "pineapple" skills, the crew too. 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
That was an awesome recovery, but I am puzzled. How on earth did that truck get over the Guardrail without touching it, as I don't see any damage to it.?
He went off the road about 500ft back and rode the ditch until it hit a tree and rolled over on its roof. Minor damage to the box because it is a reefer unit. They are rather sturdy with multiple layers in the walls and strong metal floors vs a regular box truck would have thin ply wood for walls and floor
Now had you had your reciever/forks in already to set it in them i would have been impressed. 😂 Just kidding. I'm sure you probably had to pee the worst after the truck was on the ground and everyone started breaking down the recovery stuff. 😅again nicely done.

When you yanked the truck over the tree, the trick was diagonal with the road. Instead of starting to pull it straight up; why didn't you reversed the tow truck and pull it up diagonally. Then, you could've mounted your right 1 auxiliary to the front right, the left auxiliary one to the rear right, and the normal cables over the truck to the left side of the wreck. This way, the truck wouldn't be between the auxiliary and normal cables lengthwise but sideways/perpendicular to your tow truck. The weight of the wreck would've been closer to your truck, so you wouldn't have to worry about your tow truck coming off the ground with it's stabilisers on the left side. And the tension on the auxiliary would've been far, far less. Or; when the wreck was coming off the tree, pull it sideways up towards the guardrail. With 2 cables to your liking.
Weight would still have been the same but yes stress on the truck would have been far less. A few reasons we chose this way. #1 I want to keep traffic moving and I knew the truck could make the lift at full extension but it'd be close to capacity. I never floated an outrigger meaning I was completley within lift capacities we just kept monitoring the outrigger as they are the 1st sign of being out of capacity. (Also my load sensors we not working at the time due to a bad wire for the boom ext. Sensor. ) if I get too close to the center line the overhang of the back of the turret will actually swing into the lane. I didn't want to have to try and squeeze it between me and the guardrail. And 2nd. I've NEVER seen anyone do this and I wanted to know if it could be done lol
