Cool video! I find the stock suspension on my Process 153 CR to be adequate for my needs of trail riding in Western PA but would be curious to try a bike with these upgrades. I got into mountain biking to get away from the high cost of motocross, but may be willing to spend the roughly 2K or so to upgrade suspension if financially doable, all things considered.
All things considered, mountain biking is cheaper than motocross. Generally speaking, the bike is less, maintenance is less, riding areas are closer to home and typically free, and one needs less protective gear. Mountain biking may be stealing participants from motocross as moto has priced many people out of the sport. One can get into MTB at a decent level for 5 grand. Not so much with motocross.
I have watched your other video probably 15 times on how to dial the grip 2 in,along with several other TH-cam videos. Still a bit confusing for me to dial in for my riding conditions.
The factory recommendation is the best place to start. Then ride and determine what part of the ride was not adequate. Do only one adjustment and then do another lap. Then repeat.
I'd love to try some Fox suspension on my 2019 153 27.5 CR. Maybe I'll upgrade as the budget allows. I got into MTB and away from motocross due to cost, but these goodies are pricey. I'm not saying not worth the cost, but a little hard on a working stiff's disposable income.
Will they ever move the axle lever to the other side, away from the disk? So many disks spoilt by accidental touches, and they didn't learn from the 2015 QR recall when the lever got unwound and stuck in the rotor
How do you compare this to the Fox Performance Fit4 model? I'm looking at a new bike and am curious to know is it worth it to upgrade to a Factory model.
Great review, I must say It is a great looking fork. But I will never buy a Fox product again after such poor luck with their products. Last season I sent back my X2 back to be warrantied twice. When I bought a new X2 for my Enduro bike the screw which allows the air canister to be opened stripped out after one turn because it was installed so tightly. But I have not only had poor luck with their shocks, I just sent my 2017 36 back to Fox because for the second time this season the air spring has failed. I'm only 160 pounds so it's not like I'm riding the shit out of these things. In the three years, I rode my RS Yari I didn't have a single problem, so from now on, I'm sticking to RockShox, or I am going to experiment with other products such as the EXT Storia and Push Industries suspension.
I know this video is 4 years old, but maybe you will see this anyways. I just got a Cannondale Trail Se hardtail, with a 120mm coil fork, and I need an upgrade. I am looking at getting either a Fox 34 140mm or a Fox 36 160mm at the same price, and both are Factory models. I am guessing the 160mm is too much, so I would be converting the 36 to a 140mm, adding extra cost. Is it worth it to get the Fox 36, which I could turn back into a 160mm fork if needed some day, or just get the 34 140mm? If available, I was thinking of 130mm for the 36 model. I like the Fox 36 for the extra features and extra beefy legs, over the 34, but knowing that either will be a huge upgrade over the coil fork I have now. I am 240+lbs, so a bit on the heavy end... What are manufacturers speccing fit4 instead if Grip2 is the best? (Eg. Mondraker) Still think Rockshox have the best damping out of the two brands. Even the cheap ones are fantastic.

@Andrew's Adventure both amazing, I think you would have to be doing some serious riding on both forks to come to a decision, but not many of us have the time or cash for that which is why videos like this help, a bit. I talked to someone over the weekend that said after a long time, I think a year, to get the Grip2 dialed in she recommended getting the Fit4. Said the small bump was more compliant and the whole thing is just easier to set up.
Love my 36. Rides as well if not better than my mates lyric with coil conversion except I only paid once. Huge step up from my old 100mm 32 RST to 170mm 36 Factory, but I reckon I earned it with almost 10yrs on the old setup.

For me it's the best fork out there ,(the Ohlins too ) as long as they don't start creaking, this goes a long way back and fox just replace the CSU (crown steering unit) but when do we get a definitive fix? Otherwise yeah, the best fork on the market
I’ve had thousands of forks come through the shop, but I’ve never seen a high end CSU from Fox or SRAM go bad in any way except having it replaced for stanchion damage. Replace a lot of lowers. But I’ve never had a CSU have a defect. Which is crazy now that i think about it.
I wish they made the e38 factory in 160mm . kinda makes me sad as a large e bike rider .. and I wear out drive trains quick because I'm a bodybuilder and weigh 230lbs. I destroyed my last hub and I love my new e36 but I would love to have the extra stiffness

Glad my Patrol came with the 36 performance elite, although I've been riding it for 8 months and still feel like I don't really understand it. Watched so many videos and even hired a coach. The rebound is a pain to adjust with the cover too. Probably one dial is enough for most people. I think the Rockshox Pike on my old bike was a little smoother off the top, but way less support and control.

I just have the Fox 36 Performance with the Grip Dampener instead of the Grip 2. Off the top the small bump compliance is crap. Mid travel support and large hits are great but it's just stiff off the top of its travel. Think I might have to upgrade the internals to the Grip 2 air Spring and Evol Dampener.
Here's a plan: 1)Get a nice coil setup 2)Set it up for you 3)Thank me later. ;) Sometimes a little weight has a big payoff....and a coil will always get you back. Ever tried to ride a collapsed air fork or shock back to the trailhead? Better performance, better reliability, and (should be) lower cost. I've ridden coil exclusively since I got tired of air failures over 15 years ago. I can't think of any other offroad machine out there that uses air suspension...
One thing that I think is quite rediculous is that in order to remove the air cap to emplace Volume spacers one must go and buy a socket for 40 bucks. After spending 1200 on a fork you would expect the air cap to fit a common sized socket.
Agreed that most sockets won't slip but you can grind a 32mm socket flat, or use an open end wrench and put a little painters tape around to make sure any slips don't mar the paint.
After riding a bike from 2009 I'm still impressed by all the suspension.
Exactly. I had something like 80mm very heavy no name fork with coil spring. Forks with air spring cost a monthly wage and a kidney

I’d have a set real quick. 🤩
@@Twentykixx 👍🤙
I didnt know Shaun White rides MTB?
What are manufacturers speccing fit4 instead if Grip2 is the best? (Eg. Mondraker) Still think Rockshox have the best damping out of the two brands. Even the cheap ones are fantastic.
Fox 🦊 36 grip2 🤟👍🤩
I have an spare 2019 Factory Fox 34 150mm. I would like to use it on a dirt jumper. What I need buy/do to reduce the travel to 110mm?
I might be wrong, and there may be more to this, but im pretty sure you just need a new air shaft. www.pushys.com.au/fox-34-float-sc-air-shaft-assembly-110mm-travel.html
I can instal one remote Lock on this fork??
Looking at a 26” version what does that mean
What is the mt bike your riding in this video?
He's on a Kona Process 153. I think he has a video detailing the bike.
You going to Sedona MTB fest? If so I need help setting up my factory 36😅
Didn’t the lyric review better than the fox 36 on bike radar?
"Shmashy Smashy Plow Plow"ing into JOE MAMA
I have achieved comedy people. Hold the applause
What's your opinion vs the lyrik ultimate?
@Andrew's Adventure both amazing, I think you would have to be doing some serious riding on both forks to come to a decision, but not many of us have the time or cash for that which is why videos like this help, a bit. It would be very cool to see one rider two identical bikes, but with 36's grip2 on one and lyrik ultimates on the other and have a proper shootout.
Grip 2 best on the planet
i want smashy smashy plow plow 😪 . lol i have the 2018 orange fox 36 factory fork RC2 w/ 2019 air spring and luftkappe. Grip 2 upgrade kit is a hope come spring 2020.. or i just need fox to allow a nice 20% off code to be used on it 😅
fox is running a special on the 36 grip 2 upgrade till like mid December. Check out the website..
@@falkyn06 have to get that with a service though correct? Can't have it sent to me to install on my own, right?
@@falkyn06 damn just saw this now, will need to see if its still a viable option.
@@mattdudester9037 Not sure. I just had mine in for service and they told me about it. Amazing!
Mrp ribbon coil👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I know its off the topic from the vid but does anyone know of a shock shop in the US that can convert an x2 to a dhx2? Saw a company on instagram that did it but theyre located in the UK and the price id pay for the work and shipping id be better off buying a whole new dhx2. I have an extra Factory Float x2 I dont use that I want to convert for my dune, I love how the dhx2 feels on my session I want another one on my enduro bike haha
Do you Think it is worth to pay 350€ for the Upgrade from fit4 to grip2?
Yes,everybody that I know and done that don't stop praising about the smoothness and mid stroke support.
I talked to someone over the weekend that said after a long time, I think a year, to get the Grip2 dialed in she recommended getting the Fit4. Said the small bump was more compliant and the whole thing is just easier to set up.
@The Lost Co.
What is the best way to contact you (buying a fork, international shipping) anderen get a reply as soon as possible?
Call the shop
Love my 36. Rides as well if not better than my mates lyric with coil conversion except I only paid once. Huge step up from my old 100mm 32 RST to 170mm 36 Factory, but I reckon I earned it with almost 10yrs on the old setup.
"we're riding lots of bike parks out here in the pacific northwest" i live in portland, oregon and im just getting back into mtb. gonna buy a YT Jeffsy soon and i wanna know where these bike parks you talk about are! Could anyone lemme know of any in the area?
We're up in Bellingham, so we're right by Steven's Pass and Whistler. We spend a lot of time in Whistler!
More videos I see, the more I have a feeling there has to be something wrong with my fork :) can't get S out of supple from it, and that is with cleaning all the grease from air shaft. 🤷🏻♂️
@@shoeonhead That must be a joke,is a well known problem mainly from Fox ,maybe because there's a large number of bikes with them

How much to lostco build a kona like that?
Likely Like 8000+
I wish they made the e38 factory in 160mm . kinda makes me sad as a large e bike rider .. and I wear out drive trains quick because I'm a bodybuilder and weigh 230lbs. I destroyed my last hub and I love my new e36 but I would love to have the extra stiffness
Give us a call, or shoot us an email. We can do travel changes for forks and can likely figure something out for you. Our bike wizards will be able to help you further!

This seems like over kill for a weekend warrior. Single track trail rider. But my question is do bigger riders need the bigger forks? Does it matter? I’m 6 ft tall and 240 lbs. does rider weight matter for forks
Yes, an heavier rider will flex the fork more.
At the end of the day 2020 Lyric is still the winner 👍
If we’re watching this, video, probably already have the fork. No need to sell it to us!
Noice, What's the travel on that fork?
Want to order one Fox 36/150 mm
We have some in stock in both 27.5" and 29" in a few damper and finish options!

Menwhile I'm riding a 100mm cracked Chinese air fork on qr...
Anyone else prefer the yari over the lyrik? I do
I just have the Fox 36 Performance with the Grip Dampener instead of the Grip 2.
I can't think of any other offroad machine out there that uses air suspension...
this man hints of Andy Samberg a little bit, bikelyn 99.
Just sold my lyrik for a factory 36. The lyrik just didn’t have enough support in the first half of the travel
haha not anymore because the fox 38's are here
I am broke, so I only ride a 34. 😭
Matt Dudester thanks for the tip!
