Just ran across this…and used to work at the ranch 1987-1989 when it was really nice. Helped build the rock walls, worked in the kitchen, and helped landscaping…and lived on property with my family who worked there as well. There’s a rich history, and it’s actually pretty great. Happy to share if you like. There’s a great write up in Texas Highways too…with some beautiful pictures and stories about the house, Walter, our chef Albert, and Mike/Maggie who managed.
I guarantee if you invite people to come and help clean out the buildings, and just offer them a place to pitch a tent and a free shirt, you will have it basically cleaned out and ready to start building in a week!
@kimoaks6999 I had my dad try to reach out to Matt hopefully he will get his comments that he's been leaving. There is lots my dad could tell him about the ranch even help him With we've also got pictures of all the years that we were there
Bottom line some may not notice is the man is building his legacy here on TH-cam for our entertainment and man what a legacy this will be thanks as always
It’s still crazy to me the abandoned mansion series actually took 3 years, it felt like only a couple of months. I’ve been a long time viewer of all your channels, and just like with the abandoned mansion very excited to see what you’ll do with this. Good luck to Matt and Mere, I’m sure you guys make a huge success of this project!
This is ambitious for sure but Matt's right, there is a ton of potential here as well. This video is "100 years of history", it might also be titled "100 years of work ahead of me"! :D
For the burned out lodge.. the pictures at 16:19 was the vibe I was thinking for restoration. saving the rock walls as a ruin in some way but have vines or wisteria hanging on trellises or something. That picture really captures it.
Omg yes! Build a building specifically for the items you find on the property. Testimonials from former guests, the phito album, pics you take as you demolish and rebuild!!!!
I'm really hoping you can keep the shell of the burned out stone building and turn it into a wedding/party venue. It feels and looks like the ruins of an old Texas fort like the Alamo. Clear out the debris, take down a few of the less stable walls, and plant grass (or sod) and set up a little platform for the ceremony and it would be an absolutely insane outdoor wedding venue. And the best part is you could easily have it ready to go by the time you re-open because it would only really involve demolition, not construction. Although you could put up a few beams to help define the space and stabilize some of the old walls. I would kill to have a wedding there once it's all finished!
With the sheer amount of work to be done here, it would be great to see you get other TH-camrs involved. Just looking at those paths reminds me of lawn care guys that offer to cut overgrown lots for free as a small example. I remember one of your abandoned mansion videos featuring a guy (whose name escapes me) talking about the sheathing you used. I bet there will be a lot of specialised tasks coming up that companies/youtubers would jump at the opportunity to help you out with! Popcorn ready for the long haul on this one, best of luck with it all!
I was actually thinking of Lawncare Juggernaut/The Boring Channel, Top Notch Lawn Care, SB Mowing, Fill's Lawn Care, and Al Bladez. Those guys would whip this place into shape fast. And it would be awesome to watch. Hell if I lived closer and had the equipment, I would (with permission) already be started cleaning the place up.
I have a couple of acres not far from there and I’ve driven by that place hundreds of times over the years. I’ve always wondered about it. I was extra thrilled with this episode. You’ve got your work cut out for you. There is nothing like the charm and beauty of the hill country though! Congrats and I can’t wait to see what you do with the place.
Loved seeing what this place once was and how you were able to match up the photos and locations for the before and current! But more than anything, I'm looking forward to seeing the "after" that is soon to come with whatever you guys decide to do with it.
I see a Demo-Diesel collab coming WOOO WOOO !!!! I see Cerro Gordo being built back slow and steady - lots of volunteers and people just spending weekends rebuilding cleaning and making the most of being part of the story. That outdoor fireplace could be a prime camping spot for some of the volunteers/early guests to help with the grand project. Just ideas... but the DemoRanch DieselBrothers collab -- that would be amazing
This is my favorite Off The Ranch video. (So far) The history, the then and now photos, the exploration, editing, and music choices. Thanks for this one.
I actually found this channel when I happened to stumble upon the very first abandoned mansion video the day it was uploaded. Since then, I was hooked on the series. I made sure i saw every episode. I gotta admit, after it was over, I didn't watch the channel as much as I did during the abandoned mansion series. I still do once in a while. You can bet that I'll be tuned in for THIS new series, though. I can't wait to see the place transform back into an awesome resort because I know Matt will make it happen!
Im excited too. A much bigger project than the abandoned mansion. Definetly gotta re erect the stone bench. Maybe build a shoot house and practice for an insurgency.
Being that it was a brothel at one time it's safe to say that some people enjoyed the property a lot more than others did 😉😜😂 I can't wait to see the whole progress of rebuilding this amazing place. Matt you and your family are living the American dream. Enjoy it. You have worked hard for it and deserve every bit of it.
If I hadn't seen the abandoned mansion series and known about his ability to run a vet clinic, demo ranch, build cars, flip houses and generally get stuff done I'd think he was just crazy. I still don't see how this will not take a decade or more, but I do believe he can do it.
McDonald’s is not in the burger business, they are an international real estate holdings business. Matt is not in the resort business, he’s in the TH-cam business with 5m followers and growing. And he’s very good at it. Knowing how difficult it is for very experienced, highly financed resort companies to survive long term, this is not likely to turn into a successful enterprise. It WILL be very profitable for Matt however - it’s a loss leader for future growth.
@@DJ-6972 Yeah I know betting on youtube is risky with how much things are changing. But I have a feeling he can make a lot of 20 second content on TikTok with all those structures that needs to come down :) (And I'm assuming he's got people employed to do a lot of the daily work so he can appear in videos and be the brand. No one runs that many companies by themselves. Much less demolishes and rebuilds a resort of 40 houses)
He’s literally creating a meet up spot that other YiuTubers in the future can use for their subscribers. I think it can be very successful just because of the TH-cam fame of it all.
I am seriously stoked to watch this series and I wish you both the best in turning this place into an ultra fantastic resort in The Demolitia style. If it turns out as awesome as I imagine it will. I will definitely have to put it on my bucket list.

I started watching your veterinary channel before you even found the abandoned mansion. I loved that channel! THEN, you found the mansion, and I started watching that channel and was amazed at what you did to that place. Now I have been watching the Demo Ranch channel, not because I'm fond of guns and ammo, because I'm not, but because I was waiting for something like this to come along. I love watching you, your family and your friends. Your optimistic attitude makes me believe you can do anything. And you do!! Good luck on this massive new project.. I will be watching!
I tell you what is nice to see, a nice guy and family man doing well in what can only be described as uncertain times, and yet had the courage to take on a financial challenge which would make most people to at least do a double take on taking on the task. Good luck to you and I hope your dream becomes a reality.
It sure helps that you can LITERALLY see the potential in the place! I look forward to watching all the Demo videos and the rebuilding. Good luck Matt, even more luck Mere. I sure hope for Mere's sake you find that wine cellar! :D
Imagine what it would feel like for a couple to revisit after 30 or 40 years rekindling those magic moments and memories from their wedding day. I'm sure (if still together) they would feel honoured and privileged to come back once it's completed and also, what a story it would make for a video.
If you allow some of us who do landscaping, plumbing, electrical and etc we can probably get this place back up and running in no time and I'm down for a challenge to fix this place up and support you Matt.
I gotta say man, I'm TOTALLY on the hook for this series. And really as a Texas resident, I'm TOTALLY on the hook for visiting. When can we start pre booking rooms again? ;)

So cool that he has the old pictures to compare to what it is now. Can’t wait to see the before/during/after pictures in a few years when it’s all done.
He should mow that grass and get the metal detectors out. There should be alot of silver coins/jewelry and being a wedding site no doubt some gold and perhaps diamonds.
Whenever I watch vids of abandoned amusement parks, malls, etc. It's so sad. You can smell the pop corn, cotton candy, you can hear the people laughing and the kids playing. This is a HUGE project. I hope he has investors.
Everybody Pause for just a minute... This project will take years! Im sure, like me, you will be along for every episode. In the end we will think it went so fast and look how much this place had changed. Just like matt has a plan for this, do you have a plan for yourself? Im sure he has plan and will not be surprised when it gets complete. Make sure you have your plan you can be proud of and be able to look back and say wow time went so fast but look what we accomplished. Make your future self proud!
I'm going to comment here, and return someday and tell you what I made of myself. Currently, I got fired, am unemployed, no house, and own only what's in my backpack. I'll check in in a few years and let y'all know how I did!
Dude, this is a really great comment. I hadn't considered it, but I remember the first Abandoned Mansion video and it does seem like just last year. I need to create a plan for my life and work to accomplish it! A failure to plan is a plan to fail. Thank you for the reminder!
Turning 73 in a couple weeks, my intention is to be sticking around to see the Abandoned Resort returned to it's glory with Matt and Mere, and maybe a visit as well. (a 80th birthday perhaps?)
I’m 21 years old. I’m definitely a few years or more from getting married. But Matt, I’ve always wanted to meet you, and as this place becomes better, either my bachelor party, or my wedding will be here. You’ve made a living, and you’re definitely making a difference. I think you’re already starting your legacy, keep up the amazing work man.
I cannot wait to see the journey! Beautiful pictures! I really hope at least one person from all those photos reaches out to you!! Maybe they can tell you more history and give you ideas!😊
It's wonderful to have some history. It's also a tragic shame that the main building burned down, it was beautiful. What would be great is to track down one of those brides, I bet the Demolitica and the power of the internet could make it happen. Man, this is going to be one hell of a ride!
One day when you get this project finished, how beautiful would it to be to have the Demolitia and all the previous guests from the photos come for the Grand Re-Opening and Matt and Mere renew their vows in the gazebo at the overlook, celebrated and supported by all your family, fans and followers!!!!
My boyfriend and I are watching this video together. We are hoping that by the time we are ready to get married that you’ll have this place up and running.❤
I’ve been watching you for about 5-6 years and have great faith in your ability to succeed and make anything fun. Loved the abandon mansion series and look forward to this next project.
What a gorgeous plot of land! Such a shame the previous owners let it run down and allowed so much history to be lost forever, especially the beautiful stone buildings. I look forward to seeing what you do to bring it back to life. I hope you find the wine cellar and I hope you keep items to make a little museum onsite. And hopefully, some of the people in the photos see this and they can be in a future episode.
Matt u been an inspiration to me for years, I know you will make that place as beautiful and amazing as it once was, keep doin what your doin and thank u for being a positive role model and showing there is still good in the world
I'm speechless Matt. First of all, fantastic editing job. It's no wonder why your productions go viral. Secondly, the photos prove what's possible. I wasn't so sure at first. The potential here is mind blowing. There has never been a better time in terms of the Texas economy, now and in the years ahead, to support a resort with the bunker ranch philosophy. Well done Matt. Really looking forward to your upcoming project.
I started watching this channel with episode 11, i believe, of the abandoned mansion series. I immediately went back and watched the first 10 and have been here ever since. And i will be here to watch this series as well. Get er done Matt!
Wedding venues are the big thing now..Someone just built a brand new one in our town in Michigan that is over 5,000 sq ft a huge big white barn type building with a few out buildings for other uses by the wedding parties..Big monry, each wedding charge for the faciilty and services is $30,000.00 per wedding..they are booked up.
Can't wait to see what happens with this resort. Loved the mansion and how it turned out and I believe that you and the demolition crew will make this a mint again too. Can't wait to book a visit there. Carry on and we will enjoy the ride with you and Mere.
You caught my interest again ! Loved the abandoned mansion videos and I'm looking forward to these abandoned resort videos and maybe visiting Texas when completed 😀
I feel so overwhelmed with your project; However, I am ready for the journey, and eager to see what you do, I haven't seen your Mansion videos, but my son has been following you and he loves your shows... Ready, set, gooooo....

Whenever I watch vids of abandoned amusement parks, malls, etc. It's so sad. You can smell the pop corn, cotton candy, you can hear the people laughing and the kids playing. This is a HUGE project. I hope he has investors.
Hey Matt, aging of wine or other alcohol (bourbon) occurs in the casks. Once bottled, the aging stops. So 20 years in the bottle means little.
Love the message brother!!
@@Ranstone at least u have this channel to forget about all the negative
I’m 21 years old. I’m definitely a few years or more from getting married. But Matt, I’ve always wanted to meet you, and as this place becomes better, either my bachelor party, or my wedding will be here. You’ve made a living, and you’re definitely making a difference. I think you’re already starting your legacy, keep up the amazing work man.
Oh yeah. You got pleanty of time!
I was married when I was 21 best thing I ever did.
7:51 that table covered in resin would look really cool
I cannot wait to see the journey! Beautiful pictures! I really hope at least one person from all those photos reaches out to you!! Maybe they can tell you more history and give you ideas!😊
It’s amazing how much can change in so little time.
3:26 that chain link fence is an eeeeeyesore!
They should both fire a 50 cal at the same time.
Awesome video and can't wait for all the videos 🎉
I'm stoked to see what it becomes and how y'all overcome the many challenges that lay ahead, I'd love to come visit when it's done
You got this big dog. Won’t be a thing but another accomplishment on the belt. Congrats this will be a great series.
Management of such a ranch resort is a major pain.
Fantastic video Matt. Truly, I'm 1000% rooting for this venture to be a huge success 🙌
My boyfriend and I are watching this video together. We are hoping that by the time we are ready to get married that you’ll have this place up and running.❤
That was my idea.. ❤
I think you and Meredith should renew your vows here....first official event!!
Sounds like vow renewal and celebration as soon as the resort is complete! 💕
I’ve been watching you for about 5-6 years and have great faith in your ability to succeed and make anything fun. Loved the abandon mansion series and look forward to this next project.
You should restore that fountain! It feels iconic!
Their probably all divorced by now...lol..
Matt u been an inspiration to me for years, I know you will make that place as beautiful and amazing as it once was, keep doin what your doin and thank u for being a positive role model and showing there is still good in the world
Y’all should do a meet and greet volunteer clean up weekend for people to come help you guys out however needed!
I agree! Totally great editing!
He doesn’t edit his videos
I started watching this channel with episode 11, i believe, of the abandoned mansion series. I immediately went back and watched the first 10 and have been here ever since. And i will be here to watch this series as well. Get er done Matt!
Same
Wedding venues are the big thing now..Someone just built a brand new one in our town in Michigan that is over 5,000 sq ft a huge big white barn type building with a few out buildings for other uses by the wedding parties..Big monry, each wedding charge for the faciilty and services is $30,000.00 per wedding..they are booked up.
Ready, set, gooooo....
its insane how nature can take something back in just 20-30 years.
Makes sense when you think about it. He'll, it's only in the last decade or so that we figured that the Amazon rainforest is farm that's been overgrowing for more than a millenium
Nature always wins.
dntforget hurricanes and toranados and everything else
@@michaelcurley6764the stone work will stand the test of time and the rest can be rebuilt. If Matt had your outlook on things he wouldn't be successful at all anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
@@nickneeley8798 I mean its not, 90% of its not fixable. Most of it is going to be torn out, hauled away, and replaced with something new. Nothing wrong with that tho.
We are for sure hooked on seeing future videos of your renovations of your resort. Love seeing before and after pictures…You guys Will make it happen. Can’t wait till next update. Thank you for appreciating what was and giving life back to it. God Bless you both.
Editing was top notch and I love the music. Love the juxtaposition of old and current. Looking forward to the future video of very old, was and current. Thanks for takin' us along.
Really appreciate the before and after pics. Looking forward to seeing more of the other buildings, like the 3-story ones overlooking the valley. Can't wait to see the progress.
