If I hadn't seen the abandoned mansion series and known about his ability to run a vet clinic, demo ranch, build cars, flip houses and generally get stuff done I'd think he was just crazy. I still don't see how this will not take a decade or more, but I do believe he can do it.
McDonald’s is not in the burger business, they are an international real estate holdings business. Matt is not in the resort business, he’s in the TH-cam business with 5m followers and growing. And he’s very good at it. Knowing how difficult it is for very experienced, highly financed resort companies to survive long term, this is not likely to turn into a successful enterprise. It WILL be very profitable for Matt however - it’s a loss leader for future growth.

(And I'm assuming he's got people employed to do a lot of the daily work so he can appear in videos and be the brand. No one runs that many companies by themselves. Much less demolishes and rebuilds a resort of 40 houses)
He’s literally creating a meet up spot that other YiuTubers in the future can use for their subscribers. I think it can be very successful just because of the TH-cam fame of it all.

It’s still crazy to me the abandoned mansion series actually took 3 years, it felt like only a couple of months. I’ve been a long time viewer of all your channels, and just like with the abandoned mansion very excited to see what you’ll do with this. Imagine what it would feel like for a couple to revisit after 30 or 40 years rekindling those magic moments and memories from their wedding day. I'm sure (if still together) they would feel honoured and privileged to come back once it's completed and also, what a story it would make for a video.

Just ran across this…and used to work at the ranch 1987-1989 when it was really nice. Helped build the rock walls, worked in the kitchen, and helped landscaping…and lived on property with my family who worked there as well. There’s a rich history, and it’s actually pretty great. Happy to share if you like. There’s a great write up in Texas Highways too…with some beautiful pictures and stories about the house, Walter, our chef Albert, and Mike/Maggie who managed.
So cool that he has the old pictures to compare to what it is now. Can’t wait to see the before/during/after pictures in a few years when it’s all done.

I've never been to Texas, but I would make the trip to stay there. Restoring those buildings would be an amazing story. Along with the horseback riding and other outdoor activities, you're gonna need a range somewhere on the property. Maybe even a walking archery range. If you build it, the Demolitia will come!

Everybody Pause for just a minute... This project will take years! Im sure, like me, you will be along for every episode. In the end we will think it went so fast and look how much this place had changed. Just like matt has a plan for this, do you have a plan for yourself? Im sure he has plan and will not be surprised when it gets complete. Make sure you have your plan you can be proud of and be able to look back and say wow time went so fast but look what we accomplished. Make your future self proud!

Turning 73 in a couple weeks, my intention is to be sticking around to see the Abandoned Resort returned to it's glory with Matt and Mere, and maybe a visit as well. (a 80th birthday perhaps?)

I actually found this channel when I happened to stumble upon the very first abandoned mansion video the day it was uploaded. Since then, I was hooked on the series. I made sure i saw every episode. I gotta admit, after it was over, I didn't watch the channel as much as I did during the abandoned mansion series. I still do once in a while. You can bet that I'll be tuned in for THIS new series, though. I can't wait to see the place transform back into an awesome resort because I know Matt will make it happen!

@@nickneeley8798 I mean its not, 90% of its not fixable. Most of it is going to be torn out, hauled away, and replaced with something new. Nothing wrong with that tho.
I'm really hoping you can keep the shell of the burned out stone building and turn it into a wedding/party venue. It feels and looks like the ruins of an old Texas fort like the Alamo. Clear out the debris, take down a few of the less stable walls, and plant grass (or sod) and set up a little platform for the ceremony and it would be an absolutely insane outdoor wedding venue. And the best part is you could easily have it ready to go by the time you re-open because it would only really involve demolition, not construction. Although you could put up a few beams to help define the space and stabilize some of the old walls. I would kill to have a wedding there once it's all finished!

THEN, you found the mansion, and I started watching that channel and was amazed at what you did to that place. Now I have been watching the Demo Ranch channel, not because I'm fond of guns and ammo, because I'm not, but because I was waiting for something like this to come along. I love watching you, your family and your friends. Your optimistic attitude makes me believe you can do anything. And you do!! Good luck on this massive new project.. I will be watching!
Whenever I watch vids of abandoned amusement parks, malls, etc. It's so sad. You can smell the pop corn, cotton candy, you can hear the people laughing and the kids playing. This is a HUGE project. I hope he has investors.
With the sheer amount of work to be done here, it would be great to see you get other TH-camrs involved. Just looking at those paths reminds me of lawn care guys that offer to cut overgrown lots for free as a small example. I remember one of your abandoned mansion videos featuring a guy (whose name escapes me) talking about the sheathing you used.
I bet there will be a lot of specialised tasks coming up that companies/youtubers would jump at the opportunity to help you out with!

I was actually thinking of Lawncare Juggernaut/The Boring Channel, Top Notch Lawn Care, SB Mowing, Fill's Lawn Care, and Al Bladez. Those guys would whip this place into shape fast. And it would be awesome to watch. Hell if I lived closer and had the equipment, I would (with permission) already be started cleaning the place up.
If anybody can get this place back to it's former glory, it's you and Mere. Can't wait to bring my family here one day soon!

I’m only 5 min into this video and I’m so excited about this rebirth and redevelopment of this resort. It’s so amazingly sad to see how it was left to the elements like that and to see that the memories that were made there, will not be in vain.

I just finished watching this episode and got so excited when I saw a picture of my cousin. Its the picture with the Brass ensemble. The redheaded tuba player is my cousin Freddy A. I think his ensemble is / was called The Polka Dots. They use to perform at Texas Ren Fest. He also teaches music at Kincade High School in Houston. I have been watching you since Covid began and also watch you Dads channel also. Miss the Vet videos especially since my daughter is a vet tech.

I see Cerro Gordo being built back slow and steady - lots of volunteers and people just spending weekends rebuilding cleaning and making the most of being part of the story.
That outdoor fireplace could be a prime camping spot for some of the volunteers/early guests to help with the grand project.

Olivia de Havilland lived to 104 years old and just passed away in 2020! Pretty crazy that she lived on that property.
Hey Matt, aging of wine or other alcohol (bourbon) occurs in the casks. Once bottled, the aging stops. So 20 years in the bottle means little.
Matt has the most valuable asset of all: confidence. With it, literally anything can be accomplished.

I can't get over how much more vibrant everything looked in the 90's. IDK if it is just due to irrigation, or if it is due to a drought, but 2023 looks like a desert, while 1993 looked lush.
The outdoor fireplace on the stone patio would be an amazing place on a cool fall evening with a nice glass of scotch.
I have a couple of acres not far from there and I’ve driven by that place hundreds of times over the years. I’ve always wondered about it. I was extra thrilled with this episode. You’ve got your work cut out for you. There is nothing like the charm and beauty of the hill country though! Congrats and I can’t wait to see what you do with the place.
Isn’t there perhaps anyone you know that has some documentation (pictures, etc.) from the place that could help Matt. That would be really nice.
Loved seeing what this place once was and how you were able to match up the photos and locations for the before and current! But more than anything, I'm looking forward to seeing the "after" that is soon to come with whatever you guys decide to do with it.

I love going to abandoned places and checking them out. You always find something that’s stuck in time. My favorites are places that have been left behind longer than 40 years
I guarantee if you invite people to come and help clean out the buildings, and just offer them a place to pitch a tent and a free shirt, you will have it basically cleaned out and ready to start building in a week!
That's what I'm saying, pitch some tents by the fireplace, clean up during the day, burn the dead wood all night.
