    I love how you play man! You really make the Nord shine. I agree with you how the sound "fits" inside the reverb "room"/space and how Nord sampled the source grand. I'm a Yamaha CP88 owner, but I've always looked admiringly on the Nord series. Great job!

    I currently use the Dexibell Vivo S-9. The piano sounds very good and the action feels terrific. There are many other very good, useable sounds, and the organs and electric pianos are particularly good. I am primarily a pianist, so the feel of the action was important to me. This Nord keyboard sounds good, though I’ve been disappointed in the feel of the action in some of the previous Nord instruments I’ve played. I’d like to try the current Nord keyboards. Your demo is great, and you play beautifully.

    For me, low weight is one of the top requirements on a stage piano. Anything above 20kg is an absolute no-go. Eliminating most of Nords competitors in the first place.

      Thank you for your kind words, Jacob. You might want to hold on for a while until you can play the Nord Grand 2 (just released) if keybed action is important to you before you make a decision. Rolland keybed is wood, thus, the feel is different the NP5 when playing, however, if you want to get the Nord Grand piano sounds as well, you need to consider Nord Grand 2. Let us know what you decided in the end.

    I don’t have a stage piano, but do have a MODX8. Don’t get to play it too often yet, life gets in the way. But I also have a YAMAHA CLP 675 that I play almost every day. I avoid commenting on sounds here because TH-cam has sound compression. Just found your channel today. I played bass guitar in a band back in the 70’s. Decided to take piano lessons just before retiring.

    I too have struggled deciding between the MP11SE, Fantom8, and Grand.
    In my research I came to the same conclusions as you, my favorite sound was Nords White Grand or the new Soft Grand, best keybed MP11SE, and Fantom for all the added features to grow into.
    Weight and size doesn’t matter to me as I have no intention of gigging, and sounds are less important I think because I also like a lot of the VSTs out there like Keyscape, Noire, Alicias Keys.
    So because of all of that I have been more torn between Fantom8 with the same PHA50 keybed as the RD2000, and the MP11SE.
    I really want to choose the MP11SE, but I just feel it’s old and in line for an update soon.
    Now this new Grand 2 has my curiosity piqued getting the RH3 keybed and the Nord Sounds is hard to pass up.

    Very nice presentation of your first impressions! Short and to the point.
    I'm totally with you, I also bought the Nord Piano 5 a few weeks ago primarily because of the great piano sounds. As you say, they are much more characterful and authentic than the competitive models I had played. I previously had a Kawai ES7 with great keyboard and even more "realistic" mechanical sounds, but the basic sound was ultimately much cleaner / more sterile. Nord's sounds have a soul.
    My favorite is the Royal Grand and the Italy Grand. One specific question: what "KB TOUCH" setting are you using usually? For me there should be one or two more additional settings here.

    • @standavidson
      @standavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Alf Schumacher. Appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you've found the video informative. As you mention, I found the default KB Touch settings (1) is a bit too heavy to what I 'm used to and particularly when I'm playing piano only I'm using setting 2 for KB touch. When I play as part of the band, I tend to go with the default setting 1 for KB touch as it gives me a bit more dynamic in expressing more dedicated nuances.

    • @standavidson
      @standavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Philip Brown, Thank you. Yes, the headphones you use do play a role in how the sound is rendered as they have their own transfer function. Now, if there's interest, I could have a video on headphones in general how I found the ones I am using and why but I'm sure every heaphones can change the character. That's the very reason I recommend using as flat as possible monitors for recording when mixing any professinoal recording. The video should explain every adjustments to the piano sounds. I do adjust the EQ for the Royal Grand while I leave the White Grand completely flat as I find it bright already as is (might be sampled from a baby grand rather than a grand piano). Hope this helps!

    What do you think about Yamaha Cp88 (bosendorfer imperial) with triple sensor wooden GH3 action .

    • @standavidson
      @standavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sounmadeep Maiti, I did owned and played Yamaha CP88 for 2Y+1/2. I believe it is a great instrument as well but I felt the piano sound lacked fullness in comparison with the Nord sampling (btw, the third sampling in this video which mixes White Grand with Grand Imperial - that Grand Imperial is sampled after Bosendorfer). A real short fall for me at Yamaha CP88 is the lack of string resonance - it has an emulation of that but Not string resonance. In terms of action, while the feel of the keys is much more real, I found that it was uncessary harder to press the keys or not where the Kawai MP11SE action is. Hope that answers your question.

    The voices are of quality. I currently use a cheap piano (Thomann dp 26). The reason is that I wasn't sure if I would learn the piano. I like the way White Grand sounds. Is Clavia Nord piano 5 suitable for classical music? What speakers are you using?

      Hi TwelveCrows, If I were to build my own, I'd choose action from MP11SE on a Nord Piano 5 platform, or all Nord Piano 5 sampling, button layout as is with the MP11SE action. I found it took me a little while to get used to the Nord Grand action as its depth is Not as full size as the MP11SE, in terms of action. Here's why I've chosen Nord Piano 5, though action wise might not have been the best choice.

    Great playing Stan.. I too have gone through a ton of pianos in my music career.. From a Wurlitzer 200A, Rhodes 88 curve top stage model, through a Baldwin electric spinet, Yamaha CP80, Roland RD250, Korg 250, Kronos 88, OASYS 73, Roland FA08, Roland Fantom X8, Kurzweil PC3K7, Nautilus 88, Kawai MP7, Roland Fantom 08.. I used a Studiologic Studio 80 with an Alesis S4 which was my favorite piano for over 25 years.. There are a lot of others that I've owned and used as a piano over the 56 years of professional use.. I use a Studiologic Numa Compact 2x as my home board in front of my computer screen for learning parts.. But I retired my Fantom 08 and bought a Nord Piano 5, and this was the best decision I ever made.. The keyboard plays like butter and the sounds are inspirational and makes you want to play it... I will never go back to the others again.. I have a MODX for synth and a VR09 for organ so my rig is complete since I got the missing piece, the Nord Piano 5..

    I currently have Yamaha P-515. I wanted a portable digital piano with good sounds (also I also use piano VSTs), good wooden key keybed, relatively few features that are relevant to someone who only plays acoustic piano sounds and Digital Audio Interface (for VSTs sounds). I traded Roland FP-90X for it 10 months ago.
    Ps. I hate loud actions (such as Fatar or some Yamaha plastic actions).

    • @standavidson
      @standavidson  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your feedback, Michael. As I mentioned in one of the videos, what would be a great combination for Nord Grand piano 2, would be Nord to use a Kawai wooden GFIII action. That wouldn't be feasible for keybed on a Nord Piano as it will add to its weight and form factor but for a Nord Grand, absolutely. That would make many piano players consider moving to a Nord Grand if they hardly use their Nord Piano for stage playing.
      I only played the P-515 in store, not for a pre-long period of time. I did owned a CP88 in the past and I wasn't sold on the action either as it seemed a bit too heavy for my taste/liking.
      I agree that it's time for Nord to up their game to the action/keybed component. I do however love their button layout, it's very intuitive once you start playing with it. I might make a video to break it down, as it might look daunting initially.

    Thinking of buying an Roland RD 88 and running Pianotek 8 off my iPad to do gigs. Only 2 sounds I care about are piano and Rhodes sound. Weight is an issue and the price of Nord is incredibly expensive for a gigging puanist in the real world. Hauling around a +$5k instrument to a $150 gig is stupidity. Everytime you take it you rusk breaking it due to rattling it in movement. Does Roland RD88 with Pianotek 8 and Mainstage sound like the correct gigging musicians choice?

      I don't see any reasons why that combo shouldn't work as well. I agree with you that the Nord keyboards are a premium. As is, I'm still to make a single pence from these videos, hopefully, when this channel becomes self-sustainable, I'd be able to test different keyboards, digital pianos beyond my personal use.

    It sounds nice actually, I was pleasantly surprised but it does way 20 KG and I perform on stage. Anything above 20 KG is a no go. Also, you play very well. I noticed one thing I think this Nord uses a synthesizer. Here is a test bro. Hold down the C key without any pedals and the. Hit any key say F. I notice that there is a longer from the previous note when you play, not your fault it’s a design flaw. That is what happens when you use a synthesizer. Only Yamaha uses hammer weighted so it’s not a synthesizer it mimicked an acoustic piano.

    So, for a home use, do you consider the Nord Grand a better choice than the Piano 5?

    • @standavidson

      Hi Federico, I'd have considered Nord Grand 2 - next vers when it is released. Here's more details on the decision making process in my Nord Piano 5 review video:

      @@standavidson Thank you very much. I saw the video but I didn't well understand the topic regarding playing octaves on Piano 5 and what you mean about the Grand (better? and why).
      Thanks again 🙂

      @@federicovalmassoni3827 Welcome Federico. If you play with your thumb as a professional piano player (which is what I showed in the video), you will hardly hit this issue. If you play with your thumb as most of the players do - using the side of the thumb, more often than not and every single time when you play an octav your thumb will get scratched by the sharp edge - right in the upper corner of the key before the one you need to play. With Nord Piano 5 this will become an issue when you practice. I haven't had an issue with this on Nord Grand, neither on Yamaha nor other keyboard action - it occurs - I hit that on only on Nord Piano 5 as I usually play towards the edge of the key when I play with my thumb rather than in the middle - re: play white keys - as it is NA for Black ones.
      Hope this helps.

      @@standavidson Absolutely kind, thank you very much for your consideration! I understood now, I want to get a digital piano and for me the Grand is... outstanding. Today I tried the P5 and is beautiful but for me the Grand remain the best regarding the keybed and the outsiders: NumaXPiano GT and Yamaha CP88.

    the sound is really great. but i really disliked they keybed. was too light and felt cheap to the touch, worse than roland/kawaii products that are 1/3 of the price. look forward to try the grand to see if its a bit better.

      Hi Luciano Armani, thank you for your feedback and if you listened 'till the end, that was my experience as well. Kawaii keybed is better than the Nord's one at least at the moment. I'm looking to add more colour on that in one of my next videos, thus, providing you have liked the video itself and subscribed, I look forward at hearing your feedback on my next videos. Did you say there’s a Nord Piano 5b ?

    • @standavidson
      @standavidson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Jason, Yes, there's a Nord Piano 5a which was the initial release and a later second revision Nord Piano 5b. If you watch the unboxing video on this channel, the one I've bought is a 5b. You can easily tell by a vibrato button under the master volume or by firmware version. If it's 1.24, it is the Piano 5b version. Let me know if this helped.

      @@standavidson Is the vibrato button the only difference between the two ?

    • @standavidson
      @standavidson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jasonlibs There's one more visible difference and that is a Glide function under Voice within Sample Synth engine. The GLIDE function makes the pitch “glide” from one note to the next when playing (traditionally referred to as portamento) and is available in Legato and Mono voice mode only. The 1, 2 and 3 settings provide three different Glide times to choose from.
      What you've done through asking these questions is confirming the need of me doing a video where I answer all my followers' questions. Though it's a small community as of now, it would be better to answer all these type of questions within a dedicated video. Therefore, thank you for asking.

      Does the 5a have dynamic compression ?

    • @standavidson
      @standavidson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jasonlibs The new Dynamic Compression feature balances the sound level without altering the character of the piano sound. I don't know for certain but I'd think it does. Personally, I do Not use this feature as it kills probably the most beautiful feature of the instrument - the dynamic a piano player can create which is unique.
