well its catered for the miltary, and they pay with our taxes so they dgaf for 300 bucks. and the other is that it competes with expensive protective helmets, bike helmets that are used competetively can cost the same if not more but they serve different purposes. a bump helmet like team wendy or hard head veterans (200 bucks) provide modularity for a extremely wide variety of functions. also I wouldnt want to mount an expensive NVG on a cheap 40 buck helmet either. I would want the real deal mounts on a frame that wont break.

@@richarddixon146 so why not a Kevlar helmet,…. Price is about the same ,… you get more protection out of a Kevlar, and your training with the weight you’re gonna be working with

@@DOOMMARINEUwU thats a good point. however the purpose of professional bump helmets should be used in search and rescue, maritime, and crewman roles. the ballistic protective high cut helmets typically only are at most level 3a. Being in the military, I have only seen ballistic rated helmets used for training. rifle rounds will still go thru anyways. ballistic protective helmets are also still more expensive than their bump counterparts. good example is Hard head veterans retailing ballistic helmets $400-600 and bump $200-$300. the target consumer for these companies are also military and law enforcement. so for civilian use, it does seem questionable to spend a large amount of money when a LOOGU helmet that is a high quality helmet can be bought for around 50 or a simple certified bike helmet can work for you.

I have an Emerson helmet, it's the exact shape of that one, it still has the same bike foam on the inside, but the neck strap has been upgraded, well scraped lol they now have a retention system and it is very comfortable. I wear mine on full day skirmishes and I have no problems. It stays solid on my head, no sliding. They have definately improved.

I also have a pair of Peltor ballistic eye protection shades which I purchased from the Finnish Police Academy's ordinance shop years ago. I still wear them all the time. Superb quality!

There are other cheap “unbranded” helmets with a retention system inside. There are even copies of the Team Wendy (gen 2 and gen 3) with some retention system. I got a FAST copy and it has a retention system that actually works, it’s reasonably comfortable.

If you are in the market for an inexpensive bump helmet, just get a FMA or a TMC, those brands actually give you a solid NVG mount, proper sponges and suspension system and are not 2mm thinn, they actually go thick

I think the current knockoff's are decent. Upgrade the pads, harness, cover and rails because they will all fit. If you want to. It's a bump helmet. I bought one that's an large airframe, it's made of polymer and fiberglass. I sanded it down and painted it black. Then i took out the cheap parts and replaced them with crye and opscore parts, except for the harness. i thought the harness and chin strap was comfortable. It's not ballistic, but a ventilated sturdy bump. I'd say it's an above average build. Unfortunately the company went out of business because no one knew about it. At least i got mine.

I love my OpsCore bump. Retention system is comfortable af imho. I mainly use it for skydiving now. The nods mount can take a GoPro on the front and it’s so much lighter lol. I had to specifically search for a “pocket system” that uses bungee cord under the cover so I can utilize an audible altimeter. Has served me well for 8 years now!

One negative thing about team wendy boa rotation system is that it won't fit on people who have weak chins because you can tell the front chin strap is longer and the lower chin strap is now rubbing against the back of the throat hitting the apple and believe me it really hurts when I look down or try to move left to right. You have a chin that is longer and narrow which make it for you to move freely without hitting your apple throat. Dam if only my parents would understand what the heck is a weak chin.

Comparing a 50 USD helmet to a minimum of 600 USD helmet is kind of like comparing a slingshot to a Sako TRG-42 :P
But yeah. A good helmet is an absolute necessary for anything.
I've got a great MBT helmet, but I'd need to purchase a new one with the chin protection.
In the FDF the helmet didn't fit me at all. It was horrible. When firing prone I had to use my left hand to keep the helmet up from coming down on my eyes (and I've got glasses). When marching, I had everything in the shortest and minimum and I still could move the helmet on to the back of my head like a Stetson :D
It was hilarious, but if I'd have to go to combat, I'd get rid of the helmet in a heart beat.
That Wendy helmet looks absolutely brilliant, and surely is great worth.

Been running a 20$ lancer tactical helmet for 3 years now and it hasn’t failed me yet

  • @Mark-et8vh
    @Mark-et8vh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Great presentation. I bought a Lancer Tactical FAST style helmet, just to get me through to get an HHV. (Team Wendy’s politics pushed me away)
I do have to say, that the Lancer Tactical is the polar opposite of the cheap helmet you reviewed. Wendy-style retention system - though obviously not as robust.
Hard hats have been using them for years and it’s included with the Lancer.
It also has removable interior with very comfortable foam/velcro pad inserts. I added an Ido Gear FAST helmet cover (included counter weight pouch).
It also includes an aluminum NV mount. Solid lockup, no play. Also has a leather lined jump-style chin strap. Also, Arc Rail pic mount (plastic, but holds just fine) and some Arc camera mount, I don’t quite get. I hooked my Streamlight to the pic-rail and it’s solid.
Once I got everything adjusted, I was able to go out 7 hours with no fatigue.
Some ‘on the fly adjustments’ but they were intuitive and easy.
I wasn’t expecting much when I ordered it, but I must say, in all honesty, I was and am pleasantly surprised.
Perhaps it’s Airsoft, well thought. My only complaint is the chinstrap buckle snags easily (beard) and takes a bit of leverage to release.
Other than that - very happy with the Lancer and less in a rush to get the HHV.

You should have compared it to a Team Wendy replica. Because there is going to be some difference in design which doesn't seem like you take into account. a replica is not necessarily Just a replica, Emerson is one of the lower end replicas. TMC or FMA make much higher quality replicas.

i have a good experience with the Emerson helmet i have been using it for a long time and one day i was going back to the aquarium which was where i worked and i caught the tire of my bike between the pavement and the asphalt and i flew straight from the on the ground if it wasn't for the helmet I would have a broken nose or even a head trauma but I just cut a little and the nose and the helmet only had a few spiders the really difficult thing was that even the fish in the aquarium saw me breaking my face on the sidewalk

Team Wendy bump helmet is actually the military bump helmet he used in the video, its about $300 on their site. Under that you find chinese made knock off ballistic helmets that will definitely not reliably stop rounds, then below that are the airsoft helmets. There are some sites selling true Ops-Core bump helmets for about 250.
If you are looking for good ballistic helmets under 400, then Militech has some good helmets, they are about 250 and are actually true IIIA and the BFD is actually livable. Usually sold out or almost sold out though. They are pretty much the same as Ops-Core helmets so you use the same accessories.
If you dislike high-cut helmets then MICH helmets are relatively cheap.

I mean a budget friendly bump would indeed do what it says it will do (as long as you stay away from those that claim to be bumps but are really not) but ultimately you really need to be the one to choose which is right for you. More expensive =maybe more comfortable, you can always trust it and budget = maybe it is comfortable, maybe there won’t be hotspots. If you are not gonna mount anything to the budget bump (in the video )then it’s good. Hope this helps

Out of all the repro helmets you can legit buy better ones from Idogear or TMC with pads and retention system used on a ballistic helmet and have the closest comfort to a real ballistic helmet for nearly $80 and you chose to buy the shitty $10 dollar ones lol.

Maybe at the time of purchase he hasn’t heard of either of them or maybe he just wanted to get a cheap one since he already have the team Wendy exfil.

They say it can't be done.....they say it comprises the helmet which has been debunked but I took an ach mich and modded it into a fast helmet. The edges I cut were clean and immediately sealed and reformed nicely to integrate into the uncut edges.
    Installed ops core rails
    Wilcox nvg shroud
    Fast helmet cover
HL-1 surefire IR strobe on LS
    Surefire light on RS
I did go with a less expensive combat memory foam pad inserts similar to team wendy but a lot less $...they work fantastic
    A dial suspension system.
And a notoros nvg mount for a psv 14.
And a battery/counterweight compartment for the back
I wish I could post pics because it turned out Hella sick and has passed the critic tests of airborne rangers I have trained with.
Bought the un issued helmet for 5 bucks at a flea market.

Put my old 8 power Nikon buckmaster scope on my KJW green gas airsoft sniper. Best of both worlds, airsoft is just fun as fuck and I would never want to spend what I do for real firearms, so the old expensive parts get a second life on airsoft. As well anyone hunting in medium to short distance the buckmaster series are great, would recomend.

yeah.... but neither helmets shown are ballistic, therefore neither are more effective in a Military / Combat situation

    • @Marty32

Soldiers have used non-ballistic helmets for years. SEALs and SF guys have used skateboard helmets in the past. There are threats in a combat environment other than a bullet. Comfort and lighter weight allows a more maneuverable soldier versus a heavy Kevlar helmet, which generally protects you from pistol rounds and fragments more than anything (some cases of rifle rounds bouncing off Kevlar helmets happen yes). Also the type of helmet depends on the application or mission. You might be placed in a purely recce-type role where you need your Comms / ear pro and night vision for an extended period of time versus having the protection.

Whilst I apreciate the design.. I fail to see how lack of side protection would be justified if you were in a stand up war.. dismounted and trying to hold a position vs someone with a few thousand artillery pieces..... Yes I know it has been a while since ww1 and even in ww2 this was only in major engagements but that's the sort of thing that happens... even my grandads brodie helmet provides better neck protection whilst lying prone...

    • @Zagge
      @Zagge 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It definitely is a trade off. The reasoning behind the lighter side protection is that these helmets are designed to be used with over the ear hearing protection and/or communication headset devices. I wouldn't issue these high cut helmets for every front line infantryman prone to get hit by artillery fire every so often, but I definitely see their use in special operations etc. The trade off makes sense, because the higher cut allows the operator wear comms devices more comfortably for longer periods of time, thus decreasing fatigue even if by a little. Having to wear ear pro with a traditional kevlar helmet for hours, I can definitely say it starts to take its toll after some time. It starts aching around your head and eventually even your neck, taking your focus ever so slightly away from the task at hand. In some cases survivability is not a direct, but an indirect consequence like that.

Old military helmets have their problems too. Because of problems Finnish light infantry didn't use helmets at all when I was conscript. That is even when Finland and Russia are nearly only European countries which still emphasise the importance of artillery.
