For anyone wanting more reasons to use their NODS, go night hiking. It's not gun related, but recently it showed me that after two hours I head a headache and needed to readjust my pads. I invited some friends out and they're excited to try it out.
It's a great way to get used to your gear and understanding the learning curve.
Try adding a counter balance or more weight on the rear. One of the common things to cause these head aches is you constantly (though barely noticeable) using your neck muscles to keep your head up. If you feel any downward pressure on your brow, you need a counter weight. If you were wearing "skull crushers" then it just comes with the territory. When hiking they say ounces = pounds and pounds pain. On helmets I say milligrams= migraines. I recommend stripping all extra lights etc off.

Night hiking is one of the things I want to do a lot of.

I'm definitely biased, lol. But the RPNVG is my most absolute favorite NVG housing, that I've ever used.I have a lot of hours on ANVIS-9's, RNVG's and DTNVG's. But I still find that my RPNVG reigns supreme. I use mine for night shooting, hog hunting and for aviation purposes on an aeromedical team. Because I'm not a pilot, I am not restricted to using ANVIS goggles. Having the extra FOV is insanely useful for ID'ing cell towers, wind turbines, antennas, trees, etc when going in and out of LZ's. They're also absolutely fantastic for driving, as you mentioned. And simply for static observation, the extra FOV does wonders when ID'ing animals in the brush. I installed a PVS-7 focusing IR cap and it's insane how powerful the onboard IR emitter is. Just a hair less powerful than my Surefire Vampire x300.
I had mine built with 18UM L3 filmless WP tubes and have been extremely happy with the purchase. I have about a year of use on them so far and have had zero complaints. It's also the only other housing (besides the RNVG) that I can throw into my helmet bag's NVG pouch and not worry about it getting broken. Rugged, feature rich and FOV for days. The first time I saw the night sky through my panned RPNVG was like the first time I saw the night sky through night vision, period. I was in awe at how many more stars I was able to see. They're a fantastic goggle for both work and play, I highly recommend them. 🚁

I'm glad I saw this. Having a pretty severe neck injury, I think the alphas would be pretty beneficial to keep the center of gravity shifted back a but while they are stowed
I am very curious Brandon said he like Ottos due to how well they clamp in....I love my ottos for all the reasons but the only clmaps they can use I have not been impressed with how well they seal unless I shove them under the edge of the helmet...Wonder if I just got a weak set of clamps. Something I had actually been wanting to check with Trex support since you guys started selling Ottos.

Just saw you guys are selling helmets, great options, but how come no bump helmets? You guys are a solid one stop shop and it strikes me bump helmets still offer protection and a mounting platform, so how come you didn't put up any bump helmets?

I consider the strobe very important, while training, it's good to be visible to others. Just in case.

I don't necessarily agree. Running high fom DTNVSs the vampire lights tend to be a bit too bright inside small buildings (which is where I've found total darkness the most often), outside the vampire light is definitely convenient to have but I wouldn't make a huge priority without getting a fair amount of tube time first.

Do y'all have an idea on how they do in cold weather? My latitude is around 66°N, so I regularly see 40° below zero in my winter months.
a bit late but night vision performs better in the cold due to faster heat dissipation on the tube. when you turn a tube on and place it in an area with NO LIGHT you’ll still see a slight “glow” from the tube, this is called EBI. that is caused by the heat produced by the photocathode while operating the device. the colder it is, the faster it “cools” that heat and lowers the EBI in a sense which produces a lower background illumination causing better contrast. i may have butchered this explanation but google EBI and night vision, there’s better explanations out there

Counter weights have always confused me why not just carry extra batteries?

Yeah I never understood adding dummy weight when you can attach something that has some uses. My buddy in my unit used to put a loaded 9mm Glock mag in the counterweight pouch
They nailed it. Batteries don't weight a bunch and a counterweight is necessary in my opinion to keep it somewhat balanced. When the helmet is slightly off balance in any direction your head will feel it when you take it off. More cushion the better.

Not nod related but does opscore not make a rf1 helmet cover? And are OTTOs better than amps for 1/3 the cost?
How expensive would it be to swap RNVG internals to the other styles ? Really interested in the wide angle Alpha’s . Like the DTNVS articulation. Don’t know anyone with them but heard articulation is unreliable/ breaks at the point of rotation.

For optional weight savings and what I would assume, durability, does anyone make a CF unit, for NVGs?
Nocturn industries makes 3D printed composite housings called Katanas. Light and strong. Fantastic housings. I considered all options here and went with katanas and am very happy with them.

LLUL-21’s are the lightest weight housings available IIRC.
They are lighter, but not by much and in my opinion arent as rugged. But Low light innovations makes a nice product@@Involus

Anyone recommend AGM 3AL1 Gen 3’s??? Thinking about getting those and is a little high priced at $7000 on Eurooptics for my budget but seem like top notch NVG’s. I’ll take any cost effective recommendations as long as they got atleast 51 degree FOV.
The 51° FOV glasses have issues with halos and don't have as much eye relief, so you gotta get your eyeballs closer to the ocular lens. Real pain in the behind when you gotta wear eye pro or corrective glasses for astigmatism.
Do not buy AGM dude, they're cheaper for a reason. And definetly don't buy from a website that don't post specs or what the tubes look like. You're dropping 7k on mystery tubes. Would you buy a car without knowing it's horsepower or gas mileage? Also their 51 degree FOV lenses are not true 51 degrees, they are artificially a high FOV by creating a fisheye effect. There are no natural 51 degree FOV lenses on the market so you're stuck with 40 degrees unless you get a panning bridge or rpnvg.
Check out other companies that post the specs before you buy instead.
I'd check out goonin gear, steele, apollo gear, or custom night vision.

As someone who isn't THIS knowledgeable on the topic, what is stopping either of the other two options from being 'more panoramic' like the RPNVGs? It just looks like they were... well.. splayed more outward.
Just how the housing is designed. The RPNVG is a newer design, so that’s part of it too.
@@TREXARMS Would it be wise to wait on a NVG that 'does it all' in this case? This is going to get a bit technical, is the RPNVG designed in a way that makes (-A)rticulation unfeasable? I'm assuming by your response there is more to the RPNVG's than purely splaying the units outward. If not than I'm not seeing why a RPNVG-A isn't right around the corner, seeing as it's just combining the articulation with the ability to splay the units.
@@auklin7079if you want articulation and panning you need to get a panning bridge and 2 mono tubes. I'd recommend getting 2 tantos instead of pvs14s for the weight savings. AB night vision said they have no plans to make an RPNVG-A right now

I am 100% going with NVGs by end of year. But as someone with no mentor or friends I have no one to teach me how to setup the helmet. But I only intend on going with a PVS14. Hoping to get helm, ear pro, nods etc for around 5K. Is that possible? if so, would Trex be willing to set it up for me when I order it all from you? Or is that beyond the scope you offer? yall are only 4 hours from me, could I order it all and just come pick it up and you can maybe help me set it up then? If not I understand. Right handed, left eye dominant, and too poor for binos just yet. What eye should I have a pvs14 in front of? The issue being aiming down rifle sights.

I have the same situation so that's what I'm doing and then I'll get a thermal for the dominant eye.
I'm in the same boat. Just train your right eye. It's a little bit of work, but ultimately worth it for rifle work. I still revert to left eye for pistol work

The night vision setup I can afford is eating more carrots and a crappy light bought at a Speedway. Come at me 😤 (Only during the day, because I won't really see you at night)
It's like $60K to get kitted on par with real spec-ops teams. You can probably get used or C-tier gear for a tenth that but it won't be great, still better than nothing I guess. They'll move to ban this stuff to civvies soon enough so I guess now is the time to buy or save up.

$4k-$8k for "normal" people is just not happening. MAYBE $1k-$2k is more realistic for over 50% of us. Great video for the upper 10% of the financial bracket. A note about the strobes. We use ours when we are out night hunting coyotes.

1k night vision doesn't exist unless you get bad quality digital night vision. You can get a photonis GP pvs14 for around 2.5k. Buy less ARs and save up, poor is a mindset
