Not nearly as many as back in the day, I suspect. Trucks are GPS tracked on their routes and they could more easily trace drivers back to the crime these days than back then. Plus, since this situation has happened, there are fewer women just... hitchhiking. Or men, for that matter. Shit's way too much of a gamble to risk.
There is way too much video cameras security cameras not to mention cell phones there was none of that back in the 1990s people would hitchhike no no sort of being harmed about it there was no GPS on the trucks so nobody knew where they were all of that changed I truly believe there is probably no serial killers rolling the highways

The most jaw dropping thing about this is after being convicted and doing 6 years for multiple kidnapping and rapes he is allowed to plead guilty for kidnappING, raping and killing a 14 year old nd they were about to release him after 20? What don't they get about life in prison? Or protecting society from a clear serial killer....

You know Daniel Larry Hall was very constrictive to murdering alot of women in Wisconsin and the Midwest. I'm not suprised if Larry Hall hadn't killed some victims in your area besides Lorie Depies.
He came through Michigan and I had a run in with him at a rest stop outside of Belleville, Michigan. I actually got away but they found a girls body but no head. She had been bound and tortured. This happened in 1989. I was hitchhiking and he offered me a ride from the rest stop and when I went to get in the truck he was right behind me pushing up into the cab and I have serious fucking problem with someone who gets behind me trying to make me do something. There was another driver right next to his truck watching and he hollered out at him to get his hands off me and he turned around and seen him and it was like the air went out of him and he told me fuck off and find another ride. It wasn't until the guy next to his truck told me that he had a knife in his hand. That guy gave me a ride to Ypsilanti, Mi and the next morning the girls body was found. I was seventeen but I looked fifteen at the time. I still have nightmares about this fucker.
So very thankful that you escaped that monster, so very thankful for the driver who yelled at him; saving you from sure death. Prayers for you for relief from nightmares.
Wow. That barn Regina was found in was at the corner of wagon wheel Rd and 40 East an outer road for hwy 70 in Greenville IL. I was living down that road at a farm about a decade ago. I can see how 30 years prior it would've been an idea place for what evil he did. Nobody would have bothered or interrupted. Plus the times were different, people didn't get involved in things that didn't concern themselves. Everyday when I would walk the dogs down the road I would think of poor Regina. The photos show a terrified young woman. Heartbreaking. If you think about how much she went through from the moment her boyfriend was killed in front of her till the sick way he slowly choked her...those 10 days or whatever were hell.
It’s scary to think of the terrible fear and torture, the victims trapped in a cabin moving up and down the interstates as other innocent drivers moved along totally unaware. If he picked you up in TX, he could take as long as arriving in Illinois to kill you. From Utah to Mississippi. That’s horrible, confusing for police and had a lot to do with why it took so long, besides the eyewitness victim being scared. They handled that badly and should’ve concealed her identity by having him in a lineup behind tinted glass.
This is why I can’t condone the idea of girls or anyone hitchhiking. It’s dangerous. This guy makes me sick , and he makes other truck drivers look bad, there are good guys out there on the road too .

I'm pretty sure around the year 2000 I found the belongings of one of his victims. I was just a teenager and had been working for the summer for our family's business. We were staying at a trucker hotel in Sioux City, IA and while we were doing laundry in the laundry room. I spotted a set of women's clothes, 1 pair of shoes, wig, CDs, and other misc personal belongings. I swear I got a bad vibe and thought it was the victim of a killer. I dismissed it at the time but still remember finding that stuff vividly.
Thankfully today, we’ve optimized and implemented fool proof, forensic DNA testing that pretty much puts someone at the scene or not but, it’ll definitely get someone dragged in for questioning. Sorry to the families who lost loved ones at the hands of this monster. But ; isn’t age 14 considered a child? Why wouldn’t they have charged him with child sexual assault and murder? Maybe he could’ve gotten the death penalty instead of put in prison on the taxpayers money.
I was a total rebel and have hitchhiked all over the US sometimes alone and sometimes with others. I was a teenager. I fit the description of these victims. (Never traded for sexual favors). I watched this show in horror and placed myself in the situation. I know it is only by the grace of God that I am alive and this made my blood run cold. This was a little before these killings were committed, but we don’t know when they started. It’s just bone chilling.
I had to get out of over the road trucking after only 10 months of doing it. It can be fun, but you're just alone with your thoughts WAY too much, and my mental health is pretty crappy anyways. It's easy to sit there as you're cruising along and justify doing terrible things, and I didn't want to lose my mind. There's definitely a lot of crazies out there.

Children aren’t as jaded as a lot of us adults. Sadly we become less trustful as we get older because we’ve either had or heard of others bad experiences. It’s knowledge that comes with age.
I'm 62. My mother told me not to get in any man's car except my father's car which was the only car our family had. When I asked about one of my parents' best friends--the neighbor across the street--my mom said not even him. I knew she meant business. I was only about 6 at the time. I had no concept of sexual assault. But When my mom said I could not even get in that man's car, I realized that I was to take my mom seriously. That man and his wife had been best friends with my parents since they were all young people. My mom went to high school with that guy's wife. The man was my dad's poker buddy. As I grew older, I realized my mom wasn't trying to tell me whom and whom not to trust. She was telling me something more important. She was telling me not to put myself in positions where I could be harmed. Many people try to determine whether or not they can trust a particular person. But that is not the test, that is not the issue. Certain dangers can be avoided by avoiding the situation altogether. As in, do not get into a stranger's vehicle. Also, as women, be careful getting into any vehicle with a man or letting a man into your vehicle if you are alone even if you know the person.

It really isn't all that uncommon for a victim to be so traumatized they can't cope with going through a prosecution of their abuser, or even agreeing it's him when face to face. While it seems terrible to those of us who have never been through anything like that, we really should try to understand it from the standpoint of the victim. We have no idea what he did to her before she was saved. I seriously doubt she was ever ok again after that.

Some thought that as the Tucson and Phoenix metro areas expand, Casa Grande would become a bedroom community for people commuting to either for work. It sounds perfect for families with one spouse's career in Phoenix and the other's in Tucson. Unfortunately, daily commute times would be just a bit too long for most, so the mega suburb idea never took off. So, it is what it is. Lots of meth, and lots of vulnerable meth addicts

The question that needs to be asked is, how many more Ben Rhoades are still roaming on our Hiways doing the same thing?
And how many are in high places and get away with it all because they have money and power. Only look at Epstein. And there are many more like him.
Maybe there really is such a thing as "Suspect Zero". Look at the movies "Breakdown", "Joy Ride". I think Rhoades could've done the 3 boys in Robin Hood Hills near a truck wash.

Wow! I had a flat along I10 in Casa Grande, Arizona. Imagine this lunatic stalking your roadways and Interstates? Upon conviction, "assemble a firingsquad!"
Anytime this guy pops up on my feed. I gotta watch it. The dude is diabolical.
In the weat Coast area there was a truck driver that picked up 3 hitch hikers. Killed one put two into a barn dugged out area chained. The atea looked normal. The family claimed they didn't know they were not allowed in the barn or to question. There eas more than one man involved. I meet the couple who had to go to every parole hearing to not have him released. They also had to live in the shadows for fear of the others. On news and in papers. Who would think 3 people would be hurt
When will younger people get it…. STOP getting in strangers vehicles. You’re asking to become a victim. People are so naive.
Most people are good. But one cannot act as if _all_ people are good.
Uber lol
My daughter is a teenager, and I told her that once she gets in a stranger's car, she is as good as dead. I've told her to do ANYTHING to not be put into a car. I wanted to put fear in her so that she will definitely NEVER do it. She gets it. My parents never told me things like that, and my friends and I used to hitchhike in the 8os and thought nothing of it.
What. An obductected woman had a horse bit in her mouth, is naked and restrained and the cop tells her: that shes okay, the cops are taking care of it and she won't be bothered anymore. This officers sense of the meaning "bothered" is different from mine
This is a reenactment so we don't really know his exact words
Ok, I was once in the hospital (late ‘80’s)from an asthma attack and the girl who I shared the room with , who was also a teenager , told me about her boyfriend , a lot older than her, who was a truck driver in the States, AND how he has killed a lot of women… I of course thought about what she told me but also thought how in the world could that be true … she was a chatty Cathy but seemed sincere. I’ve never repeated that story until now… I wonder A. If he has ever been in Canada and B. If she ever became a victim of her “boyfriend “.
Frightening.
Perhaps you should speak to someone about this you know.
You just may be the link to closing a cold case you know. They may have evidence that is sitting there that an alive person (as yourself) saying what you just said could be all that they need to finalize their case. You never know & sure it may seem what you know isn't really anything, , , , but it truly may be more than you realize.
I mean think 🤔 of it, there are paths that can be followed by what you know already. You were in the hospital room next to this girl & hospitals keep records. Likely she turned up dead if this is truth as to what he was doing. Therefore in their database they may have her down as deceased right.
Anyways what you know can you big deal I would definitely say something about it even though it's been a long time it's still matters.
Thanks for sharing your story
Almost scarier to think there’s more versions of him out there
@@AL-fl4jkThere are. David Parker Ray and the recently caught Long Island Serial Killer are just some of them.
What I don't understand how you didn't pass that info to cops,

This case must've been extra tough on those working it bc of the nasty pictures he took.
I don't think those memories and emotion don't fade easily. Truely a monster.
