- The other day, someone shared their car maintenance expense of 2019 on FB. So thought I'd tally mine too.
Proton Waja
Driver power window: RM394.73
Exhaust centre pipe and muffler: RM560
Regular Service 1: RM223.57
Regular Service 2: RM191.04
Total: RM1,369.40
BMW E39
Refurbish roof lining, pillars, speaker board: RM800
530i front brake upgrade: RM1,525
Refurbish headlamps: RM650
Deflection Pulley, Hydraulic Belt Tensioner, A/C Belt Tensioner, Wipers (1 pair): RM641
Oil change: RM384
Full respray, RM4,495
Total: RM8,580
Proton Persona VVT (sold)
Minor service, RM398.57

Service: FOC 😁😁
Rear Tyres (2x Michelin Primacy 4, 235/55 R17): RM1,150

Average comes to RM960/month. If convert to car installments....

I've been owning used car since I go my license like 17 years ago. One common habit for maintenance is to set a side monthly deposit to a repair account. If a month nothing spend at workshop, then let it snowball to following months. Then that fund allows you to do a lot on the car be it to recover resale losses as well. Just my opinion.

I would be in financial trouble if I had to spend that much on maintaining my car.
Well... the only reason I can afford that kind of maintenance cost is because I dont have a heavy loan to service. If all three of my cars paying loan and have to maintain this kind of money, I die man!
I spent about 3-4k in past 6 months restoring my seg ae101..i called it restoration and not maintaining,because i just bought the car in june 2019,and just starting to change broken,defected and worn parts to a new/halfcut ones..after that only i consider it as maintaining cost

Hi Kon, what are your thoughts on OEM parts vs Original Parts for eg. Perodua & Proton? Especially if I'm looking into the used car market, does certain parts warrant original above OEM, or it depends on other factors like the age of the car and etc. Hopefully this can be a new video idea of yours.
For me, I always prefer new original. OEM comes in when new ori is unavailable or just ridiculously priced.
My persona vvt mt cost me 1.25k for 1 year maintenance. And that is opting for fully synthetic engine oil and i changed transmission oil too
How many years have you owned the car?
@@KonWaiLuen nearing 2 years.. 1 year and 11 month.. but I've service twice in the last 12 months as my mileage is about 22k km/yr. maintenance also includes tire rotation every 15k km and transmission fluid change every 30k km

oem proton part already good but some part need to buy original.
Yeah. Buy new original when you can afford it, but if no choice go OEM lor. Haha
Strange. I changed both left and right drive shaft at Proton Service Centre for 1.5k. Unless the ABS system cost a huge difference?

@@KonWaiLuen Uhuh. Waja campro auto prefacelift without ABS.. But the parts are limited.
They could have revised the pricing since your last change.

Do a full fluids change. Check all the rubber hoses and bushings. If can spare the money to change all wear and tear components, you should be good.
